Restore Motion really helped provide a better post-surgery treatment experience for my daughter after her knee surgery. Firstly, they offered an option for her crutches I never would have known about. The Mobilegs are definitely worth the extra money. Then Tony came to our home to set up and explain the repetitive motion machine. He did such a thorough job that I didnt have to panic when the hospital sent no written instructions for its usage. I could confidently ask the doctor by phone about the settings to begin. When I had trouble with a leaking ice machine pad borrowed from a friend, I called Tony and he replied promptly, arranging for Louis to call me and send me to their store near Howard Hughes Center where Keenan had another pad waiting for me to purchase at about the same price as Amazon but 2 days earlier. No one wants surgery but Restore Motion helped with logistics very competently so I can focus on my daughter.

Horrible customer service. I was over-billed and have been trying for three months to get the money owed to me. Do NOT purchase ANYTHING from this company. Find another one at all costs! Every time I call I am told that the refund is coming. I am going to try and fight the charges with my insurance company next, but it has been nothing short of a major headache. Very shady company!!

These guys are terrible. I was prescribed a knee brace by my doctor, and was contacted by this company. Everything was bad from day one. They tried to charge me for an add-on item without disclosing that it was an extra cost. I disputed the charge, and never even heard back. They then sent me to collections. So I paid for the items I initially agreed to, and again disputed the add-on (which was a $100+ lycra sleeve that you can buy online for $30). That was in December of 2019. Fast forward to July 2020, and again they send collections after me, without ever contacting me. BEWARE!

My experience was with Tony who came to my house to show me how to use the tens unit. He was exceptionally kind and took his time showing me what to do. He even found a picture on the internet of how to correctly place the transmitters and emailed it to me. The billing thus far was okay but the home service was exceptional. Tony is a real asset to that company.

My goodness this place is horrible. Wish I would have read the reviews about them before agreeing with my surgeon to get a brace and cpm machine from them. First off they sent a cpm machine home with me without sending a pre-authorization to my insurance, and never told me they didnt check for coverage before sending the machine home with me. Im assuming I will be getting an insane bill for that. Also I was supposed to go home from surgery (which was on July 8th) with a knee brace to immediately start stretching my leg back out to get my range of motion back, which I didnt receive. They sent me one and a bit later and sent someone out to fit it on me. He came out and immediately noticed it was way too big for me and took it back with him and told me they would be sending me another. They sent another one out and a few days later another guy came out to fit it on me and he said its still too big. So it is now 2 weeks after surgery and I still dont have a brace that is somewhat critical to my rehabilitation. By the time they send out the correct size and get someone to fit it on me, itll easily be 3+ weeks after surgery which is only postponing my recovery. They charged me $550.00 for a knee brace, which I still dont have after 2 weeks, and informed me that my insurance doesnt cover any of it. I called my insurance to verify this and was informed they cover 80% of that brace (I checked with the exact billing code for the brace) which leaves me paying only 20% of the brace. I called restore motion and they informed me again that my insurance does NOT cover it. So now I have called my insurance over 5 times to verify they do cover it and finally had to ask them to call restore motion direct to tell them they do cover 80% of it. When I asked for a refund of the 80% I was told they wont be able to do that until they pick up the CPM machine because thats how their billing works. Maybe if they checked my insurance before, I wouldnt have been charged the entire amount, and on top of that I was the one who had to find out my insurance DOES in fact cover the majority of the brace. I just had surgery, you guys should be handling all of this and dealing with my insurance instead of just not checking with them and charging me full amounts. So now at 2 weeks I have a CPM machine that I have no idea who is paying for (which from reading their terrible reviews, I expect a large bill that I will end up fighting) and STILL NO BRACE.Listen to all of these reviews and avoid this train wreck. You shouldnt be screwed around for weeks after a surgery with rehab equipment, its a pretty serious issue and I will be going elsewhere for the brace and will NEVER use this place again.Dont use them, your rehabilitation equipment is critical and they dont care and are so unorganized it will only hurt you in the long run.

My horror story with Restore Motion / Team Makena starts out normal. My physician schedules them to fit me with brace before shoulder surgery. No big deal, I have one of those “gold plated” insurance plans you always hear about. Pricing was never discussed before hand but the appointment setter verified they had checked with my insurance and they would fully cover all expenses at no cost to me. Their technician showed up in October 2017 for a home visit fitting and to deliver the appliance. The hardware was really nice- a Berg Arc 2.0 I found out later retails for about $200. The technician was fast and efficient. At year end 2017 I changed insurance providers from Health Net to Western Health Advantage during annual enrollment (to save about $300/month!) which went into effect on January 1, 2018. Unbeknownst to me, Restore Motion at some time in 2018 starts billing Health Net $1200 for the service/visit, but for some reason they annotate the date of service on the billing as January 2018. I didn’t find out for quite a while, but obviously billing Health Net for a service received in October 2017, is not going to work if Restore Motion is inexplicably falsifying the date of service 90 days later in 2018 when Health Net is no longer my insurance provider.I’m not even begrudging them the $1200 invoice for a $200 appliance.Fast forward to early 2019 when Restore Motion starts claiming I owe them for the service and sending me bills for a January 2018 service I never received. Notwithstanding the fact they never discussed pricing with me and assured me there would be no cost to me before scheduling the appointment, somehow Restore Motion created a phantom service date outside my insurance coverage and were now attempting to get me to pay $1200 for it. I assumed it was some sort of clerical error, but nonetheless spent several hours over the span of 3 or 4 phone calls before I finally got to someone who could comprehend the dilemma. At first they wanted me to forward the billing to my current insurance carrier, Western Health Advantage, with the false January 2018 service date. I obviously was not going to do that so eventually the phone person comprehended that Restore Motion needed to correct the service date to October 2017 and bill Health Net. They told me the issue was resolved. It is possible Restore Motion successfully billed Health Net for the October 2017 service and the January 2018 billing is a double billing or some other shady insurance scam that was discovered only because I changed insurance carriers- I just don’t know yet because they have never provided me the actual billing records, just cover letters. I can see no legitimate explanation for fraudulently altering the date of service on billing records by some 90 days.Fast forward to 2020 now I am getting collection notices from a McKenzie Paul and Associates out of Austin, TX claiming my “account” is in collections. I try to respond by mail to the mailing address EXACTLY as written on the stationery and envelope return address and the USPS kiosk responds that the address is not deliverable. Seriously?Today, I just received notice from McKenzie Paul and Associates that they have now reported my “debts” to Equifax. So here is my advice- if you are physician DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH RESTORE MOTION OR TEAM MAKENA. If you are a patient, REFUSE TO ACCEPT SERVICES FROM RESTORE MOTION OR TEAM MAKENA.My next steps are filing in small claims court against both Restore Motion and McKenzie Paul and Associates as I am in the process of refinancing my home and this negative mark on my spotless credit report is sure to cost me thousands of dollars over the life of the mortgage. While the whole situation sucks, the technician was efficient, skilled, and knowledgeable but Restore Motion’s accounts receivable and dispute resolution processes are abominations. Thank goodness for COVID-19 and me now having the ability to devote my full attention to responding aggressively via small claims and spreading the word on the Internet.

When they called to deliver my leg machine, they were more than friendly. However, it was almost impossible to reach someone to pick it up. I called several times and finally someone came a week later. Like all of the other reviews, I was also overcharged. I paid $224.00 for a machine I didnt need. I also received a bill a few weeks later for an additional $70.00. It took another 3 or 4 calls before I could reach anyone to ask about my additional bill. My insurance covered the additional $600.00, so the useless machine ended up costing $900.00. When I went to my physical therapist, he told me that I didnt even need it. Ask questions before you get this machines delivered. You might not even need them.

I have a special needs daughter I have to carry a lot and I explained my situation to the rep. They said they would rush order it. Its been over a month and still no knee scooter. I have called this company 3 times in the last two business days. No answer. Ive tried explaining that I have to crawl on my hands and knees with my daughter on my back at times. Team Makena has deceptive business practices!! They are extremely pleasant and accommodating over the phone, but dont let that fool you. They quoted me a rate of $125 for an ice machine for use after surgery. The problem was their technician dropped off the ice machine along with 2 other items (arm brace and sling) which I DID NOT request. He confirmed its part of the ice machine package and again, I confirmed a $125 total. Two months later I recd an invoice for the extra items at $234 (in addition to the original $125 I already paid). When I called, their billing dept said the technician was incorrect and it wasnt part of the package. If they had been upfront and honest regarding the cost, I would have declined and not accepted their overpriced equipment. I work in the medical industry & have had personal experience with orthotics, surgery, recovery due to being an athlete all my life. Being middle aged now has presented some problems with my joints due to impact injuries on my knees & hips.I have been to a lot of physical therapy & they have a different philosophy about knee braces or any brace & dont seem to understand that the joint needs support after you do your PT. They want you to not use anything to get your muscle to take on the impact, but that is not the way it best works for your recovery. I use my braces when I am putting more impact on my knees to protect them & I do also strengthen my quads like Im supposed to & do feel a difference. Upon recovery from surgery or injury, you definitely need the braces if you really want to get better do the PT, then ice, then wear a brace when you are doing activity. If you have a billing problem with them, then call your insurance & they will 3 way a call & it will get sorted out. Dont bash a company based on what a PT says, its not true. And there will always be confusion with insurance when it comes to anything other than the norm, like lab work, orthotics, procedures out of the norm. It takes communicating with your insurance, they are the ones who dont understand & the PTs are just confusing people. Yes, you are supposed to get stronger & eventually not need a brace all the time, but you do when heavy activity & going through therapy!

PREDATORY 3RD PARTY BILLINGTeam Makena, LLC is a slow cog in the wheel of predatory billing practices and insurance ripoff. Unhappy with the state of insurance in the US? Companies like this are part of the reason why it is such a mess. If I could give zero stars, I would.I broke my wrist in April of 2016 and received a brace from the surgeons office. This specific brace (matching model #) can be purchased online for $35.00. In October of the same year (yes, 6 months later!) I am sent a bill for $153.37 from this company. The doctors office actually told me they did not subscribe to this marking up/3rd party practice. I know this because an identical situation happened with the urgent care I saw prior to the surgeon. Their management were quick to agree this was an exorbitant markup that was predicated on paperwork signed by a patient in a trauma situation. A reasonable conversation followed by their accepting retail plus $20 for their efforts (which was my suggestion).I am not sure if I am more offended by invoicing 6 mos after the fact, or a markup of 5 times retail (incidentally, retail from wholesale markup is usually 100% plus $1 which means this is really marked up times ten!!!They have refused to settle. I would even be willing to pay if they would admit they are predatory but they honestly think this is OK, with their answer being you havent met your deductible yet - if you had, the insurance would have paid it. Hmmm, Ripping off my insurance is not any better than ripping me off.My advice to anyone who ever is presented with any sort of brace or device is to take a photo of it and go to your local CVS and get your own. I actually have a job and enough money to pay this but what about all of those who cant???Positives: The collection agency they sent me to is very polite. The paper ay the collection agency they sent my bill to is very polite and the quality of paper they print their bills on is a nice heavy cardstock.

Terrible experience. This is a shame, because the gentleman that came out to fit me for my hip brace was great. They checked my benefits in advance and at first there was some uncertainty as to how IBC would cover my brace, but they assured me it was orthotic and not DME after multiple phone calls with their billing rep in CA. I paid half the agreed upon charge when I received the brace and was supposed to be charged the other half of $107 a month late. They never charged me, and a few months later I received a bill for over $500 in the mail. Since then I have called their billing office 4 times. Once I left a VM and 3 times talked to a rep. Each time was promised a call back which I have never gotten! This place is terrible!! Still no resolution and I have explained my issue to three different people there.
