I was very impressed with doctors and staff until my last visit. Two hours after my visit my dog had a very bad seizure, so I called them back to find out what shots they had gave him. He has never had a seizure and I was scared to death. This is what I was told If you want to bring him back up here the doctor will talk to you for 50$ i live 45 miles away and just paid 500$ for the visit. I dont understand why they could not take the time just to talk with me and help my panic attack

I used to love University Animal Clinic. We moved to this area temporarily and used them our whole stay, they were awesome then. We left and came back to the area so I was so excited to use them again until I brought my dog back. I was told to come in whenever to bring my dog for his symptoms, they would see him in order of us arriving.. so I made sure to show up when they opened. I called to let them know I was there, due to Covid restrictions they had you park in the parking lot and call upon arrival so they could check you in. I got him checked in and we waited for about an hour. My son had a doctors appointment so I called back inside and asked if someone could come grab our dog so I could take him to his appointment and we would be right back to get him. Thinking he would hopefully be done by the time I got back. We go to my sons appointment, which took a little longer than expected so I called to check on our baby and they told me he still was not ready. So I grabbed us lunch and we were about to head the way of the vet and I decided to call back and check on him once more. The lady proceeded to tell me since I had left I had lost his place in line and I could check back in once I got there.. I told her I was on my way and if she could please check me in I was just right down the road. She said I had to physically be parked in their parking lot.Excuse me? This was never said to me, I had checked him in once I got there that morning to drop him off. They said it would be fine if I came back and got him. Never once was I told it would lose his place in line. They had my sick dog wait in a kennel while other animals that had shown up hours after him be seen first. I got there to pick my dog up and they acted like they weren’t going to bring him out to me until he had been seen. I was irate. I asked to speak to their office manager who conveniently happened to be on lunch and would call me back. I never received a call back.I finally got them to bring my dog out to me after tears started flowing. And I took him to Delta Equine Center in Vinton and they got him right in and have been amazing and extremely accommodating ever since ❤️ We will never be back to University Animal Clinic!

I brought our beagle in yesterday. The parking lot was nearly full with pet owners, many sitting in their vehicles with their animals(no walk ins). I was immediately greeted and asked the reason for our visit. Shortly after jotting down some information(first time visit) a younger gentleman came to get our beagle. I told him he has trouble getting up and down. The worker ensured me, no worries, and scooped him up .There were a few things that needed to be discussed(previous x-rays, meds, potential complications, etc.) in regards to the issues he was having. I interacted with about three different workers. All of them were very informative and professional.I also want to commend the clinics overall communication skills. During the down time I spent in my vehicle, they made a point to fill me in on the progress of whatever test results awaiting, medication that needed to be filled, etc.

Im finally able to write and thank these amazing people at the Lake Charles University Animal Clinic for their professionalism and tender care of both my companion, Ally and me, on the bleak day that an unexpected decision would define compassion and sooth my overwhelming grief. We were visitors in Lake Charles, LA, unfamiliar with the clinic and its physicians, except through myfriendship with a young team member- Ashley Fruge. Ally had been off her food for a while - but her long time veteranarian in Covington cleared her for travel and had showed no concern about her cough. Her tests were clean. But early on Feb 1, only three days away, Allys eyes spoke to me of her pain, and I understood.Shed had an extremely uncomfortable night. Not the first, by far...People lacking this instinct shouldnt own pets.Ally watched me closely as I sang her song and dressed. We walked together as we had hundreds of times before to our car and she hopped up-with difficulty-onto her leather seats. I had placed a call to the clinic and told them to expect us.When we arrived, a lovely young man brought a soft blanket from inside the building, gently wrapped and lifted my darling girl in a gliding motion as though she were floating through air. I was so grateful. We were met by the early morning staff and Ashley. Her sweet, compassionate face soothed my fear and as she massaged Ally, Dr. Karyn Goeckel, entered the exam room and introduced herself, then switched her attention to Ally. She examined her, and she and a young vet conducted an ultrasound without moving her from the room. Most people would see a fine, healthy looking 70 lb. purebred Labrador retriever.Without keeping us waiting hours for results, drawing unecessary bloodwork and conferencing that would cost hundreds - which Id gladly pay, this astute, learned veteranarian determined what Ally had earlier told me with her eyes. And with respect, Dr. Goeckel explained all, offered me several options, and told me what to expect - second by second as I held my companions sweet head and whispered my goodbyes. Charge for this bittersweet life changing event: the cost of an average yearly check up.I remain forever grateful - Leslie J Ackel

I have been going there about 3years service was great. I have 5 dogs, only bring 3 there, for now there service the last year or a little longer is terrible. The doctors are great, office personnel is terrible. I get reminders for my dogs which is incorrect, I have use my time to check on it. When I go in with my dogs I get a 10% V A discount, I even remind them before they print the bill and still have to call them to get the credit the next time I go in. I have a $ 57 credit now. I buy my Bravecto through Pet Meds because of price, they have to write the script, it has not been sent. I called at the beginning of November and the office personnel assured me as soon as the doctor was available the doctor would sign the script. Just got notice this morning, Pet Med has not received the script yet. Office personnel verified they received and would get the doctor to sign. I will call this morning, my opinion, they will say it was not received, but I verified that it was received. I bring my other 2 dogs to another vet, which I may switch because of the inaccuracy of office personnel at University. I spend quite a bit of money there on my 3 dogs, and was going to bring my other 2 dogs in the future, but not now. The problem could be new help but the last year to two years it is terrible. I should not have to take my time to have to call to straighten out there problem. MATTER AT HAND HAS BEEN RESOLVE.

When I arrived my dog had lost alot of blood I mean alot and they took her in I had to stay in my car about 5 minutes later a nurse came out and asked if I had 400 for them to start x-rays I told her I only had 250 and she went back inside 10 more minutes had passed and the vet came out with some pain pills and antibiotics and told me they were bringing my dog back out with a compression bandage on her and told me how to administer the pills and told me when I had my finances better to bring her back. I told her while I was waiting I had gotten the money up for the x-rays I had made some calls and got the money. She told me then she needed 12 to 1500 to do it all . My dog was shot in the chest and because I didnt have it all right then she turned me away . I hope that on her judgement day she gets turned away as such. I could write an essay on why to steer clear of this place. None of the staff seem to have ever met each other. There seems to be zero communication. My dog vomited an excessive amount of bile 4 times within a few hours and was lethargic. I had called initially to bring her in as my primary vet has closed due to storm damage. I informed them when I called that she tries to eat everything not bolted down despite our best efforts. Was told they could do x-ray for $140 and visit would be $50. No problem. I told them in the first vomit there was a possibility of a worm but also it was very possible it was an actual speghetti noodle. Get down there and the first employee says they want to run blood test to find reason for infection. Second employee comes out and I ask what let them to believe there was an infection. She says there is no blockage. She says she never intended to run a blood test and that I must have been misinformed. I asked if she had done a fecal. She said no she hadnt but she would. Fecal came back negative but she stated that she probably had worms anyway. This makes no sense as if there was a worm as mature enough to resemble a speghetti noodle there should have been evidence in the fecal. She says just to give her anti nausea meds and she should be fine and that this is what she does for every animal that comes in because of vomiting. I tell her Im concerned that were not doing more to find the underlying problem. I request a white/red blood cell test to rule out infection myself since they have no interest in figuring it out themselves. When the tests come back I find that they ran it under FELINE. I do not know for sure but from the experience so far at this vet I could see how that could definitely skew the results. Her levels were too high and too low which she says is just from stress and that she probably just went outside and ate a bug that had been baking in the sun and if I will JUST give her the anti nausea meds Ill find that shes a healthy dog. Super condescending. Our dog was returned to us with feces on her paws that she did not enter the clinic with! I also saw when she got home that her nails had been trimmed! I ensure that her nails are always trimmed and our dog has never been a fan of the process. So now shes been put though that for no reason unrequested by me while shes incredibly sick! TURNS OUT SHE DID HAVE A MAJOR BLOCKAGE the whole time and thats what was wrong with her. She had swallowed a HUGE chunk of plastic that we found out happened 2 WEEKS ago and had been living with that ever since. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT DONT GO HERE!

Dr Woodward and UAC are wonderful! They were able to schedule and perform an urgent gallbladder removal surgery that saved my dog’s life! If not for them, he likely would have been euthanized. Typically small animal gallbladder surgeries are very difficult to perform. I had called many vets in my area that wouldn’t perform it or couldn’t schedule it soon enough, but Dr Woodward came highly recommended and now I know why. We are blessed that he performed the surgery a few days after the call because our dog was already very weak and unknowingly had a gallbladder rupture. All the UAC staff took great care of him the week after surgery and even gave him a bath and clipped his nails before discharge! Highly recommend to everyone that needs specialty care from Texas to Louisiana!
