I had a total knee replacement done in July 2020. I developed complications with my physical therapy early on but Dr. Schutte was indifferent to my complaints. I was told on several visits that I was fine and just healing. I did 4 1/2 months of physical therapy with several different therapists. At the end of September I was told I had developed a rare nerve disorder and was given no help or referrals to get treatment for the condition. I was left on my own to figure out my prognosis. I currently have only 85 degrees of bend in my knee and significant pain and swelling as well as a limp.I have consulted with several doctors now and the consensus is I dont have the nerve disorder rather I have arthrofibrosis which is the development of severe scar tissue. Although the size and structure of the implant was good, the placement of the implant may not have been suited for me. I am scheduled for arthroscopic surgery and nerve ablation to correct some of my problems. I will also need several more weeks of physical therapy.Dr. Schutte may be technically a good surgeon, but if you are in the 10 % of patients that develop complications, you are left on your own. There is no discussion or empathy or help. He cuts and then he is done. Be certain you are aware of what you are getting into.

Dr. Schutte has been my orthopedic physician since 2007. He and his staff (Todd and Cynthia) have gone above and beyond in taking care of me. I highly recommend Dr. Schutte and his staff.

I had a serious injury to my shoulder on 12/29/14 while skiing in Colorado. I to the Steadman clinic in Vail. The decision was made that it would be best to go back to Lafayette for surgery. Many years ago, prior to this accident, a Dr. that works with Dr. Schutte had helped me after a bad traffic accident. I went to Acadiana Orthopedics as soon as I got home. I learned my previous Dr. was no longer doing surgery. After another examination and x-rays Schutte said I needed to have the surgery right away. I did. Worst decision I have ever made. As far as the surgery, he took the easy/lazy route which left a huge scar. All of the doctors and therapist I have being seeing have made comments concerning that fact. He took the stitches out way too early which made the scar even bigger. He told me to start doing certain exercises several weeks before any other doctor said I should have. Right after surgery I started physical therapy. At first I progressed pretty well, but still had a huge amount of pain. I thought this was normal. He kept giving me pain pills. About 3-4 months later the pain was getting worse. Not only did my shoulder hurt, but it got to where if someone would touch my shoulder I would literally involuntary drop to the ground in pain. In April 2015 I contacted Dr. Schutte and made an appointment. I told him how bad the pain is getting. His response was You are not worth ordering an MRI, take ibuprofen That is a direct quote. I kept calling about the pain, Schutte and Melissa kept telling me take more ibuprofen. One day Melissa told me over the phone You will not be given any more narcotics! Basically making it clear they thought I was making all of this up just because I wanted drugs. Well, a couple of months go by, Schutte now has me taking 2500mg of ibuprofen 5 times a day. I started to get sick, then started vomiting blood. Schutte would not see me. A co-worker was in a bad accident a couple years ago. EVERY day for 2 weeks she hounded me to call her doctor, something was not right. I kept putting it off until I found out Schutte had been telling me to take fatal doses of ibuprofen. I made an appointment with her doctor, although after he found out Schutte worked on me he was EXTREMELY reluctant. He brought in one of the top experts on shoulder surgery in the country. I didnt want to have surgery again and the doctors did not advise it either, actually the wouldnt do another surgery so soon because it was so dangerous. Over the course of several months we did several minor procedures while working with some of the best physical therapist. Towards the end of 2015, it was clear that I had to have surgery. My doctors and therapist finally agreed with me that there was no other option. I had the surgery. In 5 days after the surgery I went from a daily pain level of 7-10 to 5-6. Schutte had damaged an unrelated bone in my shoulder. During the 2nd surgery, they cleaned up several spurs, some of the messy implanted material Schutte installed and removed the bone he damaged. I spent another 3 months, 3x a week, 2 hours per visit, in therapy. I had to completely start over with my physical therapy to regain use of my shoulder. A little over a month ago was one of the best days of my life. After countless hours of hard work, by my PRESENT doctors, surgeons and therapist, I was released. If my co-worker would never have hounded me to go to her doctor I would honestly have kept taking the fatal doses of ibuprofen in an attempt to help with the unbelievable constant pain... all doctors agree, I would be deceased by now. Do not ever have anything to do with Dr. Schutte.
