Short version : COVID and triage protocols are not efficient.It is a long drive to arrive at this hospital but we came at the advice of our daughter’s pediatrician. Despite being socially distanced, fully vaccinated, and wearing masks my husband was sent to the car as only one parent can be in the lobby. Meanwhile people from different households are sitting beside each other despite the amount of space available. I understand the triage process but was discouraged as my 16 year old daughter who is having abdominal pain and trouble breathing ( also had been diagnosed with gall bladder issues and it could be urgent) was bumped down the line of patients to be seen every time a younger child with a cough was brought in. Currently still in the waiting room as there is a good chance that my child actually needs surgery and I may post another review about the actual visit if she is ever taken back. This is pretty pathetic for a town of this size and as much as we can give negative reviews- there is not another children’s hospital nearby so none of the issues are likely to change.

The staff are really nice and wonderful, the place is very clean and very professional.. THANKS for taking care and for doing your job in great way..

I am very happy with how this emergency room treated us! Even tho the wait time was long and it being a high stress time, all the staff was wonderful to us. So sweet and companionate. I know that this time of covid is hard for health care workers and I thank ETCH ED for being positive and there for their patients!

I want to start off by saying the triage nurses were extremely friendly. However we waited 3 hours before leaving to go to a family doctor there was another family there that had waited for 5 hours and many others. Why is this facility open if they don’t have the staff to operate. They are letting children suffer by wasting their time. I am by no means an unreasonable person but this is just unacceptable.

I would definitely NOT rate this ER with high marks. I get it that we have a pandemic going on and have to wear masks, social distance, etc. But if the importance is placed on the fact that you have second person with you over the importance of how people are seated in the waiting room, you have missed the mark by a LONG SHOT! We had a 2 year old here... And this child would have been better served at another area hospital that saw adults and children. Very disappointed. :(

Had a terrible experience taking my son here. This entire city has substandard emergency care. Its really sad. No hospitals seem to care either.

Thats my second time talking my one year old son there. We have waited more than 6 hours. Its a children hospital, which means mostly babies and small kids go there and need immediate care, but they dont care about them and keep them for long hours!!!

While the staff was very friendly and, thankfully, my child wasnt in dire needed of medical attention, the fact that I had to be in the room with my child without my husband for 3 hours because of covid really made me angry. What if my child had died? If the masks work, then why couldnt he be there with me? And we only got checked on 4 times in 3 hours?

My daughter came in with seizures. The ER staff was amazing the nurses and peds floor was amazing. They never had my daughter hooked up to anything to monitor her and when they did her EEG they did it in our room and only for 30 mins after not sleep deprived. The EEG guy was amazing. Even the pediatrician was amazing but the Neurologist was horrible just told me to video tape her next time and was discharging us, even with her history of seizures since she was 18 month old, not medication no plan nothing. Left it all up to me to figure out because the neurology specialist group does not accept our insurance.

Took my son here for a nursesmaid elbow nurses were really nice and the dr popped it back it quickly! They were amazing with my little guy!

Horrible place to bring your kid when they are in dire need of medical attention! The wait is always 4 plus hours in the waiting room and then another few hours in the room no matter how many people seem to be waiting or treated. Its very frustrating and sad sitting all that time while your child suffers. A kid was rushed in by ambulance and had a seizure and still had to wait as long as everyone else. Shame on Childrens hospital! Yall need more locations in Knoxville and surrounding areas.

It was (both) the best and the worst of experiences! The wait time was eternal. My son (9 years old) managed to smash the end of his ring finger and thus dislodged the fingernail. We arrived at the ER about 9:30 PM. Got registered, x rayed and formalities like insurance fairly quick. Then there were many sick children there. Both when we arrived and after we got there. I understand they must prioritize the emergency, but around 1:00AM I asked how much longer? They said there was still 5 in front of us! Anyway, it was about 3:00 AM before they took us in, then another 30 or 45 minute wait in there. What I wanted to stress was the professionalism and kindness the (PA) Molly and her assistants exhibited once they started working on my sons finger. He was terrified about what they were going to do, but it could not have gone any smoother. Im sorry, Molly is the only name I remember, but all the girls were very,very kind!!! Thank you so much!!! Had a great experience here, they were fast, friendly, and took care of all of my child issues. Could not have had a better experience.

I brought my son in because his chest was tight, felt like he couldn’t breathe, so dizzy he was walking in a diagonal, and he had trembles and we still waited for over 3 hours just to be seen! It’s going to take for a child to pass (Lord forbid) in the waiting room for them to do better!!! Tried taking my kids to another hospital but we keep getting sent back to this mess! WORST hospital EVER!!!!!!!

Fast and knowledgeable service

Did not even send my sons breathing treatment prescription to the pharmacy. But they were great in the room. Brang him toys to play with and were very friendly . Also offered to help with him as I am both mommy and daddy to my 10 month old

We went to emergencies because we were extremely worried, and we cannot believed that it took 1 hour and a half for the doctor to see our child! What kind of emergency’s place is this? They were more concerned to have all administration paperwork done before seen our child! So dissapointed, if it wasn’t nothing to worry about, why they didn’t tell us before the hour and a half? To charge $ us better?.10 min in the entrance, 1hr and a half in a room (5 min with a nurse who asked us what happened, don’t know the reason, she just said “ok the doctor will be here in a few minutes!” Why did I bother to explain her then!; 30 min or more with the lady who typed all info and then and hour waiting for the doctor! Our child was hungry, thirsty, bored, he doesnt watch tv!; if the doctor was with us 5 min I’m exaggerating! He said ooo is ok! Really!!! Why! What a relief, but not fair having us in a room an hour and a half for this! As I say just to charge us better $; and then the doctor said wait me 5 min, we waited 15 min and our son was extremely hungry, I said to the nurse, what are we waiting for? Ooo wait the doctor is on the telephone! Really! We just needed to sign a paperwork at what time we exit, that was it! Just money more money for them, so dissapointed of this place!).We understand there should be kids with really an emergency, but if ours wasn’t an emergency, why having us extremely worried for more than an hour in a room? Not fair! just for the money!

4 Patiens in the waiting room, 3.5hr wait to be registered. Unacceptable!

Had to wait 2 hours in the waiting room with a newborn. And 2 hours just for labs.

If I could give a zero I would!!!! We waited over 3 hours before we even got called into triage. The nurse there should NOT be working with kids. 6 hours later we finally get a room and sit in the room for another couple hours without even seeing so much as a nurse or anything!!!! I will never bring my child here again!!!

Never have to wait long

We have been here for hours. The wait is terrible. Seen the nurse practitioner only to now wait to see the doctor .This is crazy .

Takes way too long!
