Had problems swallowing and couldnt eat anything solid and was almost choking on liquids. Went to ER at UT and had CT scan of neck which didnt show any thyroid nodules or malignancy. They told me to follow up with Dr. Stancher. He scheduled an upper endoscopy. Upon awakening from the scope, he told me I didnt have a stricture and that my esophagus was fine and told me to start taking Protonix for GERD. I asked him how I was supposed to take it, and he looked at me real puzzled. I said, Im here because I cant swallow, remember? My husband who was also back there was real concerned about him not getting this, either. I asked him if there was a liquid form I could take, and he said there wasnt. He then told me I could dissolve the Protonix in water to take it, and I said okay. The next day, I look at the instructions for the Protonix, and it plainly says, Do not crush, break, or dissolve. It is a delayed-release tablet and can only be swallowed whole. I called over there to let them know I couldnt do this, and his nurse called me back. When I told her about it, she told me Dr. Stancher was on vacation and would refer to another doctor in the office. She called back and said the other doctor there called me in liquid Nexium! My husband and I both were very upset, as we plainly asked him for something liquid I could take. I was very disappointed and decided then and there I would not go back to a doctor who didnt handle a very stressful situation to me with no better expertise than that.
