We got a recommendation for speech services from my daughter’s orthodontist. I called several times (and left a message once) to set up an appointment, but was never able to get ahold of anybody. The orthodontist had to call us to change an appointment time and I mentioned that we hadn’t been able to get ahold of the speech therapist. The orthodontist office said that they’d try and within five minutes I was receiving a phone call. The therapist stated that she was out of town for personal reasons, which was understandable and I thought she was going above and beyond by making a call from her cell phone when she was out of the office. We had a short conversation and it sounded like she might be able to provide some helpful services, so I agreed that she should contact me when she was back in town. The following week the therapist called from her cell phone again. She didn’t introduce herself at first and I didn’t recognize the number, so I was initially confused about who was calling. She started off by asking if it was a good time and I said “Sure?” while still trying to figure out who it was. She eventually did state who she was and while she was calling, but implied that she thought I had been asleep (this was an afternoon call) or that I might be too busy to talk. I assured her that I was available to set up an appointment and she worked out a time. She also asked for our insurance provider, which I told her, and my email address to send paperwork to, which I provided. She sent the paperwork over and I printed it out so I could fill it out and take it to our appointment.Several days later I received a text from the speech therapist asking if I was interested in services or not and stating that she could send me the paperwork. I was confused as we had already set up an appointment and I had the paperwork. I asked if we had an appointment scheduled and told her that I already had the paperwork. She text back stating she had our appointment down, but wanted the forms, our insurance information and my drivers license. She then text again asking about payment information. At that point, I still hadn’t received any phone call from the actual office in Dayton, only from a cell phone with a Cincinnati area code. Something seemed off about getting texts from a “professional” asking for sensitive information. I tried to look up more information about this therapist in order to get a better feel of whether or not this is somebody I wanted to take my child to. I wasn’t able to find much information, so I decided I didn’t want to proceed with the appointment. I opted to stop texting with their therapist since I don’t know this person and don’t feel comfortable providing information over text.A couple days later I got a very unprofessional and condescending voicemail from the speech therapist stating that she didn’t think I was “ready” for proceed with services and saying that she had “been nice” and “called as a favor” for the orthodontist. I text her back at that point to let her know that her messages were unprofessional and that the orthodontist had only asked her to call me because she hadn’t returned my calls. I told her that I had intended to bring my daughter to the appointment we scheduled until she started texting for insurance information by text. At that point I received an apology and was told everything was a “misunderstanding” and that the office manager wanted her to have that information before seeing patients. I can understand that, but I have also NEVER received a call from the office asking for that information which has been common practice with every other medical professional I have ever dealt with. I have NEVER had another provider text me to ask for sensitive, private information.Needless to say, we will not be pursuing services with this provider and I would warn off anybody else that is thinking about them. The rudeness of the voicemail that I received this morning was enough for me to be completely done with this place, even if everything else was a misunderstanding.
