Staff was very polite, a bit unorganized. It took a lot of time for them to find the paperwork for the kitten I adopted. However, they didnt tell you about any known illnesses prior to meeting them or asking about them. One had ear mites I believe, another fleas. My cat could have caught some stuff from me had I been lazy and not gotten hand sanitizer between the kitties I met. However, I know theyre doing the best they can. My kitten is very sweet, and Im glad I went to the shelter to get him!

Fantastic facility with staff that care so much about all the animals. Everyone was very helpful, and the animals couldnt be in better hands. I adopted a dog from them and was really pleased with the process. Anyone posting 1 star reviews and saying nasty things is very out of line, in my opinion. When it comes to animals, people can get emotional and irrational. Dont listen to those fools, this is a great place.

I cant help it, I cry like a baby every time I go into a shelter. I just feel so bad for all the animals who have no homes with no one to love them. I came here because I had the sweetest stray show up and sadly I couldnt keep him myself. The staff were all genuinely kind and caring. Animals and their kennels were clean. It could only get better if animals had bigger enclosures (I understand why, only so much room). Thank you for helping the animals Kearney shelter!

Poor service. Wasn’t helped past the door, didn’t have anyone come out to see what dog I was interested in and was denied of any dogs. And the dog I was interested in “would tear up my apartment”, I’m very familiar with dogs and this service was outrageous. Wasn’t even asked if I would like to meet more with the dog. I would recommend going elsewhere.

Olivia assisted me with eight animals that a neighbor had to relinquish when no other shelter in the state would and assured me that the critters would be cared for not humanely euthanized. Nebraska is blessed to have Olivia, her facility, and her staff. They are the top of the bell curve and accomplishing what all shelters should be attempting.

Went and found the cutest dog the other day and the ladies working with us where completely unprofessional “assumed” a lot about who we were as people because of where we were from and who we knew and would not work with us. I would go to Hastings or Grand Island to adopt because they might be a little more well rounded and professional over there.

The first time we adopted from them was a pretty wonderful experience for the most part. Recently, we adopted a kitten from them who seemed healthy but within 24 hours the kitten was sneezing heavily (Which they said might happen). We waited a few days as they instructed us in the paperwork and after that the sneezing still continued but at a higher rate. Not only that though, but the senior cat we have as well started getting sick almost immediately. We took the cats to the clinic and the kitten had to be immediately put on oral antibiotics while the senior cat was given a couple of injections to help him out.She is doing better now but the senior cat still seems... different. Were keeping a close eye on the seniors health though as were still very scared for him. I could go into other details about the whole experience as well, but were pretty sure were not going to adopt from them for quite a long time, if ever again.

Just tried to adopt a pet with my kids and they wouldn’t let us in bc I am a nurse. I am amazed at the audacity to open to the public and then discriminate against someone bc they risk their life to save others. Sadly my children had to witness this and I had to explain to my son why we couldn’t go in. If they aren’t ready to open their doors and let people in then they shouldn’t.

This place is ridiculous! Looked at their website and they only have 2 dogs listed for adoption. My daughter went in there and they had tons of dogs. My daughter called me about a Boxer that was deaf and scared to death to be there. My oldest son has been looking for a dog and this dog was the perfect fit for him. I called the shelter at 4:55 and asked if they could wait until 5:05 and we would be there to adopt the dog. The lady let me know they dont work after 5 p.m. and are closed Friday so to try to get the dog on Saturday. It was sickening to hear the lack of love and empathy for these animals. I even asked her if it was hard to find animals homes if they dont put them on their website. The lady said no because a lot of people come in and the staff is really busy. Theyve had the Boxer for two weeks and she still isnt on their website. Its laziness and lack of love and concern for these animals. Ive literally received better customer service calling to order a pizza then I did calling this place about an animal scared to death in a shelter. It actually made me sick speaking to this woman on the phone. A dog has been there 2 weeks and she still knew nothing about the dog. She had to dig for his chart. How heartbreaking! It made me pick a star for a rating before I could post this... They dont even deserve One Star!

We went here despite what multiple friends said. They were rude and made up their minds to sell to you or not as soon as y ok u walk in the door. We were told the lady in the back says we are not eligible to get a family member. They would rather keep the animals in the shelter then sell to certain people. I would suggest driving the extra mileage and go to a different shelter. Do NOT recommend.

Very poor service. My brother and his family adopted their dog from this place and had a great experience. So I took my daughter there to see about adopting a kitten for her as she loves cats! Wasnt greeted at the door when we came in, had to ask questions to get someone to talk to us, was talk right off the bat that it was too late to adopt an animal (it was a little after 4 and they didnt close till 5). I had asked about seeing a cat and was told there wasnt time cause someone else wanted to see a cat. So we left. We came back a few days later, I made the effort to get them to helped with the hiring process, had to jump through hoops jua to get approved. My daughter and I found a kitten we really liked and that liked us, so they told me i could put a hold on him and come back tomorrow and put another hold on him until i had all the requirements i needed. So I made the 30 minute commute to Kearney the next day just to tell me I cant place another hold on him and there must of been miss communication. Then I was told I would receive a call once my landlord emailed them with the okay to have a pet at my apartment. Never received a call but my landlord went out of her way a few weeks later to make sure I got the cat. Turns out the shelter got the email, emailed my landlord back for a number and got it but failed to call me and let me know. So I called them and I was told they didnt have the time to help me cause there were people that actually came in for help and they needed to tend to them first. And was told that the cat I wanted was already adopted out. Talk about a disappointing moment cause my daughter was super excited about getting a kitty!

Adopted a 6 month old puppy last week. First thing she does when she gets in the house is go to the corner and has diarrhea. That’s fine. It’s common for shelter dogs to do this when they get to a new home. 3 days later it hadn’t stopped. Take her to the vets to find out she has fleas, a tapeworm, and Giardia and that she’s only 5 months old. She gets dewormed and medicine for her Giardia. Call KAAS to inform them all that has gone on with her in the very few days we have had her, for them to then tell me for the FIRST TIME that they were treating her for fleas and the tapeworm. For the Giradia they said that it’s common for their shelter dogs to get it because they share a common play area. We have another (previously very healthy) dog at home who is now also showing symptoms of Giradia. I spent $300 to get my dog and I have now spent close to $400 on vet bills that could have been prevented had they done a simple test on their dogs before releasing them for adoption. I cannot be the only person that thinks that when you adopt a dog from a shelter that they should be checked for any ailments BEFORE they are released for adoption and to let the families adopting know THE DAY they adopt them if they have any health issues. Very very extremely dissatisfied with my experience with KAAS. Will not ever be adopting from them again.

Because of the rules but seriously why couldn’t they understand. Either way we had to leave without our dog and very insulted. I thought they were rude and insensitive and racist. They we’re very rude asked one of the employees about a dog and said we were not able to see him because of our kid. Then asked if we could take turns seeing the dog while one of us stayed outside with our kid. Then the employees came up with another reason. Just don’t get why they wouldn’t take there time to explain to us the full reason and why instead of making it sound like we couldn’t go in because of our kid. Very unfriendly probably won’t be going back anytime soon. Very nice place though clean and well-kept.

COMMON SENSEMy Grandkids who live near Sumner, brought their young border collie/lab to my house for 2 hours, so they could monitor an injury she had. They let her out, before they put on their shoes to follow her. Fuzzy had disappeared. I have a lake at my place and she apparently heard the neighbor kids playing and splashing in the lake, and she went to investigate. Immediately, upon seeing Fuzzy’s injury, our neighbor loaded her up, and took her to the shelter. When we inquired if they had seen her, our neighbor’s wife called for him to bring Fuzzy back home. He had just dropped her off. He walked back in the shelter, and explained the situation. They refused to let him take her back. We were there within 5 more minutes. Same scenario. They refused to let us have her. I wasn’t the owner, so they wouldn’t let me fill out any papers.Fuzzy was already under a Vet’s care, had her neck shaved, and was on medication for an infected possible spider bite. The Vet had told the kids not to put her collar on for a while. I called them, so they could give assurance that Fuzzy was under their care, and was being given antibiotics. Not good enough, and I then found out Fuzzy had not yet received a Rabies vaccination. No problem, let’s get that done. I gave them my credit card to expedite things. No deal! By this time, I was getting quite irritated, and my Grandkids were crying because they couldn’t get their pet. It was 4:30, and the animal shelter Vet was not there. We would have to pick Fuzzy up tomorrow morning. I called my Vet at West Villa. They could administer the shot as long as we were there before 6:00. No problem, right? Wrong!I still couldn’t do anything. Although the Grandkids were with me, they were too young to authorize the shot. I called my daughter at work, and she authorized it. No, not good enough. My daughter left early from work, to come settle the matter. They kept telling me they would not wait for her to get there. It would take more than 15 minutes to do the paperwork, and they close right at 5:00, with no exceptions. I again offered my credit card, asked them to please work with us, and told them it was necessary for Fuzzy to go home tonight to receive her antibiotics. With plenty of attitude, I was informed that they were following the rules. At 4:55, I was told we needed to leave, and they escorted us out the door, just as my daughter was parking in front of the building. The door was immediately locked behind us. My Grandkids were almost hysterical by this time.My daughter took time off work Friday morning to pick up Fuzzy. After paying $30 for Fuzzy’s 1st Offence, $20 boarding fee, and $20 rabies shot, all they asked for was her name, address, and phone number, and no signature was necessary. It would have been so simple to hand Fuzzy back over to my neighbor who brought her in by mistake.I realize we are partially to blame, and some of the drama could have been avoided if Fuzzy had a Rabies shot earlier, but she didn’t.Some of this drama could have been avoided, if common sense would have prevailed.M. They told me that I had 72 hours to claim it before it was put up for adoption, but 3 days isnt that long when I didnt even know it was there. I went out of my way to get her microchipped and keep current tags on her so that if she ever went to the pound, they would be able to get a hold of me. BUT THEY MADE NO ATTEMPT!
