The communication informing me and reminding me of my appointment was excellent. The staff at the front desk were very friendly, the nurse was friendly and explained what she was doing, and Dr. Palfrey took his time to go over everything with me to ensure I understand everything going on with my health.

My elderly mother took an overnight oxygen test in May. In June, Neurological issues were diagnosed for her and the neurologist stated I needed to verify my mother didnt need oxygen because an earlier test showed that she did. Neuro said doublecheck with Resp Crit Care. I called the nurse, she said test 30 days earlier was inconclusive. I asked why had no one called me to tell me that. (I was stonewalled). The Dr tried to blindside sending oxygen without performing another overnight test or contacting us, but the medical supply company would not deliver the oxygen because it was over 30 days. I continued to try to call Resp Crit Care back to get aknowledgement, but no one would call me back. I finally blocked my number, called Apria, then conferenced nurse line at Resp Crit Care and finally got someone to answer the phone. I had Apria representative explain to the nurse at Resp Crit Care that another test would have to be done. The new test came back that my mother did not need oxygen. So I asked the head nurse, at this point what do we do because the first test was positive, the second test was inconclusive (but the doctor last minute realizing they had made an error in not redoing inconclusive result was going to just send oxygen anyway. But Apria denied Drs orders because it had been over 30 days). The 3rd test showed negative. So, if you do the math: Positive + Inconclusive + Negative = Null (0). And in research, this would make the 3 studies cancel each other out. Therefore, I asked the nurse back on June 8 shouldn’t their be another overnight oxygen test to be sure because my mother, in the middle of the day would sometimes get so winded walking just from her bedroom to the couch in the living room that she would almost pass out. She had been fully cleared with her cardiologist, all of her blood work came up fine with her primary, my mother has diagnosed COPD.Back in early June, I asked the head nurse at Resp Crit Care for a letter stating that they acknowledged the 3 different test results but that they were standing by the fact that my mother did not need oxygen. I never received the letter. Today when we went for a visit, the doctor argued with me about conversations we have had and the head nurse let me know she had been holding the letter the whole time at the front desk. We live in Saint Aug, their location is Baptist South in Jax which involves driving 72 miles round trip, parking a ways across from the bldg in a deck usually 2-3 floors up, getting to the elevator, walking over long walk way and over to their bldg. So to ask me to come to their location to pick up a letter, or leave my elderly mother home alone for 2 hours is rude and absurd. The location is not easily accessible for the elderly or infirmed. Anyway, I finally got to see the letter today and it merely stated that the last test showed she didn’t need oxygen. Nothing in it knowledged about the three tests canceling each other out and that I wanted to be clear of the Drs final decision in the letter acknowledging the 3 tests. Again being important because the issue remains with my mother suddenly getting so short of breath that she almost passes out. Also, a nodule was found on my mother’s CT scan for her chest back in April that the Dr at Resp Crit Care had ordered. He has never acted on or done anything to pursue looking into that. It is now July 11, 2018. Bottomline, in my experience, there is a whole lot of incompetence and careless disregard there. They are also very rude. What if it was their health, or their mother? (No one should have to bow or cower to them, or kiss their butt). So before leaving today, I handwrote a letter that was left at their office stating to never contact my mother, or me as her POA ever again. I did have someone at the front desk sign that they had received a copy of the letter and I took a copy with me. I do not recommend this practice to anyone. I will be taking my mother to the emergency room tomorrow to be checked out completely and schedule with a different pulmonary practice for her future care.
