This was THE best place weve ever stayed, hands down! The MWR employees are some of the most genuine and kind people we have ever met. They made checking in a breeze and answered all of our questions. The views are simply amazing--we watched ships, tugs and dolphins all day. Theres incredible fishing from the breakwall as well. The park is extremely tidy, and a camp host in always available if you have any issues. Security patrols the park so we felt extremely safe leaving fishing poles, our Yeti and grill outside. The larger shower house and bathroom has AC (a godsend in August!) And the smaller bathroom does not have AC but both are extremely convenient for all campers at Pelicans Roost. The biggest BONUS was the free washer and dryers for registered campers to use! They are accessible until 9:45pm and this was a perk that I was so grateful for! There is free wifi, and if you want to rent a bike or kayak, Outdoor Adventures is right around the corner as is the NEX, the Bowling Alley (which delivers pizza if youre hungry!)There are an alloted 10 spaces for tent camping, but those have no water or electric. We loved the fact that there was a central dog park area (one for smaller breeds and one for larger dogs) complete with a mini obstacle course and doggy poo cleanup bags located throughout the area, so its extremely clean and hygienic. The beach access from Pelicans Roost is a shirt walk, but having access to a private beach is a perk. You can bring your dogs as long as they remain on a leash and you clean up after them. I highly recommend getting up early enough to watch the sunrise at the beach! It made every day absolutely perfect!Just know, the there are NO FIRES permitted at Pelicans Roost so if you have your heart set of sitting next to a campfire and roasting marshmallows, jusy be aware that isnt gonna happen. I will say that with the evening breeze, the mosquitos were minimal and you truly dont even miss having a campfire! Its a joy to be outside!Hands down, this is one of MWRs hidden gems! We will be back!!!

This is one of our top three favorite RV parks. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The park itself is well maintained and cared for by two camp hosts to call on when outside of regular office hours. Before covid, there was a great ice machine you could help yourself to 24 hours a day. There is a free laundry facility available until 10 pm.

A nice place to stay (we stayed for 3 days), quiet, clean, and something you will see a cargo ship or USN ship go by the water front. Some people go fishing. Nice place for active and retired armed forces services for downtime. This is 2nd to the best military park we have been for retired and active service men and women. And this is our second time in this rv park. Love it.

Great little spot with access to the St. Johns River jetties. Pavillions across the street with tables and can be reserved for a BBQ or birthday party. They just fenced an area in so you can let your dog off leash, and run around with other dogs or just play some fetch. Great prices and staff, I highly recommend if you have base access...

What an incredible location on naval station mayport. Right at the mouth of the St. John’s river with plenty of beach to hangout and enjoy the surf. Friendliest group of people I’ve ever encountered as well. We were able to get a full hook up site we could see the ocean from for 20 a night. Can’t beat it.

Pro: Excellent campground with wonderful view of St. John’s River as it empties into the Atlantic. About a two minute walk to the jetty to fish and about 10 min walk to the beautiful beach. Free washer/drier. Staff friendly and helpful.Con: raised the price where it is now more expensive then the country park campground next door, and they eliminated their free WiFi.

Located on Mayport Naval Station, Pelican Roost RV Park sits right on the water, mere feet from the naval basin as it merges with the mouth of the Saint Johns River east of Jacksonville, FL. From the majority of the RV sites you can see the basin, the river, and the Atlantic Ocean! The naval ships come and go right in your virtual front yard, their majesty and pride glowing! Pictures cannot do it justice, but there are many chances daily to try.Be sure to bring your most comfortable lawn chairs to join in the pastime of ship watching, ranging from all kinds of navy ships and coast guard cutters, including even some amazing foreign navy ships, to immense commercial cargo ships and even cruise ships. Private boats and yachts are a constant background traffic, and shrimp boats coming in with overflowing hauls are fun to watch with their halo of scavenging seagulls. But I think almost best of all are the constant parade of dolphins as they come and go, playing in small and larger groups. Ive seen more than I could count at times.A beautiful sandy beach awaits a short walk from Pelican Roost, and entertainment as well as dining of all types are minutes away. The facilities are spotless, the staff super helpful and friendly, and the laundry room is free to all guests. Five stars across the board here!Pelican Roost is an unparalleled RVing experience, and to any military family, active or veteran, I say this is a must-visit RV park. Call 6 months out, as it fills fast and stays that way. Youll want to make this a regular stay on your calendar, I promise! Please hit Like if this review was helpful for you. Many thanks! 👍

I arrived on Thursday to camp until Sunday. Tried to get a spot. They said there was no open spots on the roost side and had to stay in the cove spot instead. The hole time I was here at the cove they had 4 spots empty on the roost side and wouldn’t fill them don’t understand. Also the lady on the roost side was very unfriendly. I also put out my flags for our President and was told I had to take down be cause they said they where divisive and wasn’t allowed. I never thought a Navy base wouldn’t support our President of United States. What a shame.

Very nice campground.... wonderful views of the ships and tankers going in and out of the harbor. Sites are nice, not on top of one another. Facilities are clean. The only negative thing is that the Old Boys Network is alive and well here. We were told that you need to reserve front row sites up to 6 months in advance...... not so if you know someone working, hosting at the campground. We couldnt have a spot up front cause they were all reserved.... we watched a camper come in, chat with the host, laughing and pointing to the empty front row sites.... guess who pulled right in....yup, buddy/pal. Not sure what the hosts do here besides late check-ins, we were in the site right next door to them and neither one of two hosts acknowledged us as we sat outside. Not even a hello.

It is highly unprofessional to hear one of the female staff members complain and speak ill about customers when she gets off the phone, to her co-workers and to herself. It has happened more than a few times in the minutes I spent at the clubhouse. This makes me question what else is being said by the staff, once customers leave, probably nothing good.Other than that its nice that they have a laundry facility at the RV park, as well as a dog park within walking distance and clean restrooms.

This was the nicest RV park weve ever experienced. Prior to Pelican Roost, we had rated Disneys Fort Wilderness as the best, but Pelican Roost beats Fort Wilderness for the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and associated U.S. Naval and commercial ship traffic, the well-maintained and clean facilities, and the friendliness of the staff.Kudos to all of you at Pelican Roost!
