Please avoid this Institute if you can specifically dr. Nassif. He performed ROUTINE HIP surgery on me over two years ago and I had so many complications after waking up paralyzed in my legs. It has been over two years now and I have never fully recovered... still having to use wheelchair/ walker and it changed my life forever.

Last week I experienced a fantastic hospital stay! First, their care in keeping down the infection rate is BEYOND careful. Second, the culinary experience is NOT hospital food! You choose from a wide menu of Chicken Caesar Salad, Asian Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce, Rosemary Chicken Breast and the most moist Meatloaf in the OC. The desserts are superb. Hot oatmeal raisin cookies, lemon bars, Chocolate layer cake to mention a few.Attentive staff on the medical side. Beautifully decorated, modernistic and a reasonably comfortable waiting room. Friends can trace your progress on an integrated system on the wall.

I’m 53 years old. Going into this I was well informed of what was to come in our control. I had total left hip replacement with Dr. Nassif. out-patient same day. I was already assigned people to check up on me on days leading up to surgery: making sure every step was followed and on time👍🏼. Every day following surgery I was still being checked for pain, swelling, and symptoms outside of normal recovery; as well as monitoring my medicine intake. First days of recovery, as always, were long due to my discomfort, but a week later I was getting around on my walker. A week later, I improved to using a cane. Already, I am weaning myself off pain killers. Already had my post-op appointment. The goal of the medical team is to keep me pain free, but I’m willing to switch to milder means (ice and Tylenol) to control the pain during muscle use at thus stage. I’m very happy with my results as I try not to rush my recovery. Through the process, as I tried to rush my recovery by pushing myself more than the assigned level of exercises, I experienced excessive pain (impatient). However, without forcing it, I’m naturally getting stronger😃. I’m very happy for my new hip and my recovery. They took great care of me, and I had confidence in the process. This has increased my faith in my Doctors and PT. 🙂👍🏼

My mother had a hip replacement here. She went home the next day, and was up and walking and back to her pretty usual self after a week and a half. I was worried about complications, pain, all kinds of stuff because of her age, but everything went so smoothly.

This may be the first time I have written a google review, But the team at Hoag orthopedic Institute for surgery gets five stars from me. Dr Desai and his team of attending OR, and Preop all the way to the front desk, Teri, Holly, Letha, Martia, and Maureen all earned the stars. Not to mention I was functioning at least at 75% of normal all day after driving myself home from open carpal tunnel surgery. Great Team!

Dr Jon White and the entire staff are fantastic at what they do. The staff is friendly and caring. Dr White is a bit quiet and may come off as little arrogant in the beginning, but is excellent at what he does. I suffered for so long with herniated disc and pinched nerve and they made me a new man. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the entire staff. I’m so glad I stuck with them. You are all appreciated.

Hospital and staff are tip top. I’ve had my share of problems but Dr. Mikulak, and staff made it as pleasant as possible. Best Orthopaedic hospital I’ve ever been to. Thanks, Tony Bailey👍

Not as good for kids as I expected. We came to the emergency office for my son because he was hurt playing. We came and the doctors took x-Ray. After the x-Ray my 2 year old son had to wait for 2 hours until they came back to tell us the results. I watched the doctor just sitting there on a computer typing many things with his assistant rather then to continue a doctors job at the ER. I am here still waiting here since 8am and now is about 10am. Please if you have kids, dont bring them here as me and my son had to wait for 2 hours while his leg was broken.

Competent, caring staff. Comfortable and quiet room. Best hospital food ever!

Dr Mikulak and his staff are outstanding. Hip replacement was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Dr Mikulak has a unique ability in that he was a gymnast in college. His level of understanding physiology and ergonomics is grounded in a completely different level of kenistetic awareness. That coupled with the medical/surgical training allows for a one in a million opinion of an individual condition that leaves other opinions in the dust....In the event you are seeking a second or third opinion. Your quest stops here. If you are fortunate to have been referred to Dr Mikulak for an opinion, no need for another.

We just had our daughter have an operation here for her tennis elbow with Dr Rose. everybody from the front office, through the nurses, post op, anaesthesiologist and doctor were really great. We did the outpatient services so I am not sure if the institute is the same business. We highly recomend the outpatient services section.

My wife had a hip replacement done on Feb 1 at HOI. Pre-op, surgery, hospital stay all were top-notch. I am now perplexed and severely disappointed in what just happened when we went back for our two week post-op appointment today Feb 16th. Yes, we were 15 minutes late for the appointment. Because we were late we were told we would not be able to see the doctor. The lady at the front desk told us the earliest she could reschedule would be in March. I asked to see the office manager and was told she had just gone home. This was a little before 11 AM - ???. We were given a number for a scheduler and were told she may be able to do better than March. I am perplexed that if the standard of care is a 2 week post-op visit why it would be ok to be turned away. I am disappointed as this is totally opposite from what our experience has been so far with HOI. I guess the lesson is dont be late no matter what.I would have rated 5 stars if it werent for this aspect.

This place is a complete JOKE and very unprofessional. I have chronic SEVERE low back and buttock pain and cant sit, stand, or walk far from an operation. I called Hoag/Newport Orthopedic Institute, and they made an appt for me to see one of their spine surgeons. When the Dr. came in he said he couldnt help me (never touched or examined me), and sent me to Pain Management who also REFUSED to see me. Trying to get help and in severe pain, I had to drive to LA to see an orthopedic surgeon. He diagnosed me with Deep Gluteal Syndrome, and I will need surgery. I also have an SI Joint problem and coccydynia. Its horrible and painful for me that I have to drive to LA to get any expert treatment.

I called the Hospital and spoke to the medical staff coordinator to report a Dr. who had put fraudulent incorrect information on the Hoag HOI website boasting of board certification that he does NOT have. The coordinator had an attitude when I spoke to her. I might add the hospital is supposed to verify all information a doctor puts down and apparently they did not VET this Dr. so she might have had an attitude because she did not perform her job? Anyway the website was corrected but it still had false information. I called the coordinator over 10 days ago and asked to get a call back and I have not heard back. This is BAD for a hospital to ignore a legitimate complaint. The hospital by failing to perform their job is actually indorsing this Dr. and his false claims which could cause a patent to go to the Dr. for care thinking they were board certified. I have called the CEO just now and to complain if I do not hear back I am filling a formal complaint with the state agency that oversees the hospital.

I had my hip fully replaced at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute by Doctor Stephen Mikulak. Everyone at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute were great and treated me with the utmost care. I was first left in the care of Dolly the Pre-op nurse, who prepped me and got me ready for my surgury. Then the OR nurse Angela took care of me while I was in the operating room. The Anesthesiologist, Dr Smith, was the one who made sure that I was under properly. Dr Smith was a character and made sure that I was comfortable before going in for surgery. After I was out of my surgery, I was then taken care of be the PACU nurse Robyn. Then when I was taken to my room, I was then put into the care of my RN Lisa, who was in charge of taking care of me during the day and Wanda was in charge of me during the night. Both took very good care of me while I was in their care. There were several other nurses who I did not mention, who also took care of me while I was in the hospital. Also the nurse who was in charge of my physical therapy, who got me up and walking hours after my surgery. My stay at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute was great, thanks to all of the nurses and care that took care of me while I was in the hospital.
