It was kind of hard getting my first appointment. Other than that this practice is great. Nice offices with new, super clean waiting rooms and exam rooms ( I mean all doctors offices are clean, but this was a step above). The front staff very friendly and helpful. I really liked Dr. Gross. He took the time to explain everything about my knee replacement and answered all my questions. He made me feel like he could spend as much time as I needed with him. It actually was about a 1/2 hour, but I felt very confident in the procedure and him as the doctor to do it.

I’m 49 with a severely arthritic hip and did not want a total hip replacement. Traveled from upstate NY to see Dr Gross for a hip resurfacing consult. The whole experience was exceptional. Staff was great and efficient. Dr Gross was as expected - authentic, unhurried and genuinely cared for getting me better. Resurfacing is a highly specialized surgery, if you’re a candidate, go see Dr Gross. He’s the best in the US.

Met with Dr Gross this week for the first time. He and the staff were fantastic. He was very honest with me and took the time to make sure that I fully understood my options and expected outcomes. Turns out that he doesnt feel I need this type of surgery at this time so he definitely isnt one of those surgeons that just wants to throw you on the operating table. Very honest down home atmosphere.

As a 65 year old man I feel that I have found a Dr that makes you feel good about getting older as I can now count on a place to go if and or when needed. A nurse comes that evening and checks you and in the morning Dr. Gross come and checks on you ! I couldn’t believe this and how well it went ! No physical therapy required, they provide you with in home exercises ! Used crutches for about 2 weeks and then carefully started walking on my own ! Never thought a surgery would go the easy ! And let me brag on the OP surgery center and all the nice and professional nurses as well as the Drs personal nurse ! I would definitely use and or recommend DR Gross as he is the best around !

Dr. Gross saved my life! I live in Asheville,NC and not one ortho would help me or help me find a Dr to help me. I had severe arthritis in my right hip. Dr.Gross looked at my xrays, looked at me and said You are hurting arent you? I said yes and he said lets get it fixed. My husband and I had gone to Atlanta and was turned away by two Drs. Went to NY and turned away by 3 Drs. I happened to talk to an ortho I knew but he didnt do resurfacing. He searched and got me in with Dr. Gross. I will never be able to thank him enough for all hes done for me. Hes even done the left hip for me. Everyone on his team are caring and will treat you right. Dont hesitate if you are in need to go to him. Hes 3hrs away from me but it is a short drive for excellent care.

Although my initial surgery was delayed (due to COVID), the whole process was seamless from beginning to end. During my long career starting as a US Army Airborne officer and retiring as a Government Science Advisor/Physicist I enjoyed running, skiing, and horseback, until it all came to a rather abrupt stop a year and a half ago with onset of arthritis in the left hip. After extensive research, I discovered Dr. Thomas P. Gross who is the leading US surgeon in hip re-surfacing, and in my view, because of his pioneering work and successfully helping thousands of people, a National Treasure. The fact that I am 83 did not discourage him. After a very thorough analysis, he qualified me for outpatient surgery and a fast recovery protocol. The surgery went flawless, the initial recovery rapid with no complications, and though I may not choose to run my favorite Marine Corps Marathons (Ive done over 40 :) I am looking forward to running, riding my horse Raven, and black diamond skiing.Expertly done hip resurfacing makes that possible, and I only wonder why so many people limit their future activities by not seeking out the procedure as opposed to the standard hip replacement which is much more limiting. On the personal side, Dr. Gross is not only a great surgeon, but he and his staff are great people :).

Without hesitation, I would recommend Dr. Gross as the best surgeon to perform hip resurfacing operations. Before scheduling my surgery on September 19, 2020, I weighed three hip procedures to repair my hip; 1) stem cell treatments, 2) full hip replacement, 3) hip resurfacing. My goal was to have no physical restrictions after I was fully healed. Hip resurfacing was the only answer. Then, I started my research to find the best surgeon who performed hip resurfacing operations. I only found a few top surgeons in the US. I chose Dr. Gross because 1) experience - he performed over 6,000 hip resurfacing procedures, 2) convenience of location, 3) positive reviews, 4) information provided by his office. Cost was not a factor for me. I wanted the best surgeon to ensure the best result. It has been five months since my operation and well on my way to recovery. I am following Dr. Gross’ guidelines for recovery to a tee and confident that I will be able to return to high impact activity that I use to enjoy, like running, snow skiing, and racquetball. Again, I highly recommend Dr. Gross if you are looking for the best surgeon.

From scheduling the initial appointment to checking out of the surgical consultation, each and every person was efficient, respectful, and kind. I waited a bit, but not excessively. Dr. Gross was informative AND encouraging. I appreciated his command of his specialty. Its a pretty scary thing to contemplate someone cutting into and sawing around in ones body. Its early yet, but I feel confident in his skill and care.UPDATE: The surgery is done, and recovery begins. As with the early office experience, surgery day went like clockwork. I have had a number of interactions (including four previous arthroscopic surgeries) with general sports medicine and hip specialists during the last several years and I can say that there is a very clear difference when interacting with Dr. Gross. You will find that Dr. Gross knows this subject matter inside and out and this is not surprising given how many surgeries he has performed. It has been my experience that there is absolutely no conjecture with Dr. Gross. He is a very intelligent and knowledgeable surgeon who looks at the facts of each case and does not try to sell or differ you but rather tells you if his skill set will likely fix your issue.Anyone who has experienced significant pain as a result of their hip injury or condition knows how challenging and frustrating it can be to diagnose and appropriately treat hips as compared to other Orthopaedic injuries. While there is never a guarantee of an accurate diagnosis and treatment, seeing a specialized hip surgeon like Dr. Gross gives you the best opportunity to have a good outcome. I can relate to the logistical and financial concerns that out of state patients have but Dr. Gross is certainly worth traveling to see. It has been my experience that you can pay now or pay later when dealing with hips. I would gladly travel to see Dr. Gross again for treatment. Although I am still very early in my recovery process with left hip I still plan to have Dr. Gross address the right hip at a later date.

To be fair, I have not completed my process with Dr. Gross office, and he has not completed my surgery. This review is based on my initial or first meeting with him and his staff. I am impressed with the staff, and they are all very genuine and friendly. I was appreciative of the time and evaluation Dr. Gross spent with me. He was thorough and his evaluation complete, leaving no stone unturned. It is for this reason that I intend to follow through with the next step, which is a surgical procedure. I absolutely would recommend Dr. Gross and his staff. I would also share that more than two people who are professionals in the medical field said Dr. Gross is the very best in this field.....(one is an actual surgical nurse who worked with him in the OR for several years at Providence, but has since moved on). My surgical nurse friend said that Dr. Gross fixes botch jobs of other doctors, lol....but not funny at all. Yes.....I will be proceeding with Dr. Gross and his very competent staff.

As a former collegiate athlete, I was very active into my mid 40’s. Gradually the osteoarthritis in both my hips prevented me from staying as active and eventually sidelined me from any physical activity at all. It got to the point where just getting up and making it through each day with minimal pain was an unattainable goal. I met with a local orthopedic surgeon who immediately recommended a full hip replacement. Prior to this appointment, I found some information about hip resurfacing and asked this surgeon if he provided this procedure. His exact words were, “only if someone requests it”. I knew, then, I needed a surgeon that specializes in this procedure. All my research led me to Dr. Thomas Gross. Although out of state, I felt it was worth the travel to get the best care. I have had both hips resurfaced, exactly six years apart, and could not have had a better experience. The regimented protocol, before, during and after the procedure removed any doubt as to whether I was in good hands. The staff, including Lee Webb and Nancy Smith, removed all the unnecessary stress in handling all the details. I would absolutely recommend contacting Dr. Gross if you are at all considering a hip procedure.

This was all BEFORE my scheduled appointment time. Dr. Gross came in, did an exam and we discussed my history, x-rays, and prognosis. I’m going to need the hip resurface procedure and Dr. Gross explained the entire process clearly and we made a plan.I am very impressed with Dr. Gross and his staff and facility. I am an Atlanta physician. My wife suffers from a congenital hip condition and was recommended to have a total hip arthroplasty At the age of 16. Happily, her insurance company demanded a second opinion and that doctor told her not to return until she couldnt walk. She lived a very active life there after, mountain biking, snowboarding and playing womens flat track roller derby. Ultimately however degenerative osteoarthritis caught up to her, she was bone on bone and in substantial pain. She was under the care of a pain medicine specialist, on Neurontin and narcotics. By 2011, her level of function had diminished to the point where she was willing to consider a total hip arthroplasty. I work at one of the best hospitals in Atlanta, and we saw a number of respected orthopedic surgeons, who all recommended a total hip arthroplasty, along with the postoperative limitations that would entail. My wife could not imagine the change in life that a relatively sedentary lifestyle would lead to. Because she is small, a number of orthopedic surgeons told her that she would likely only be able to have one total hip arthroplasty in her lifetime. With hips lasting between 15 and 20 years if you take care of them, we had difficulty understanding where that would leave us at the age of 60. We began to seek out other options and found the concept of hip resurfacing. This would allow her to maintain her lifestyle, and could be revised to a total hip should the need arise in the future. This seems like the right fit for us, and the only question was where and when could we have the surgery performed. We looked at the hospital for special surgery in New York city, a practitioner in Chicago and another in LA, we looked into medical tourism in India, and visiting my homeland in Brisbane to see a physician performing resurfacing there. The logistics of international travel, or traveling back from other cities by plane after surgery seemed daunting and thats when I found Dr Gross. At that point, Dr Gross had performed over 2000 hip resurfacing procedures, and had begun performing the uncemented procedure. He kept detailed electronic records of outcomes and was able to show us the live implant failure rate over the entire span of his career on the office PC. He was kind, patient, and promised me my wife back. He delivered. He is an excellent, caring, and competent physician. He is highly experienced, has a procedure that he does not deviate from, and this is probably the reason why some people might complain about the office. My wife decided to move forward with Dr Gross, and found that there was a five month wait. She burst into tears in the office; and the office manager took us aside and said she would put us on a list for cancellations. We promised to drive in from Atlanta on a moments notice whenever a cancellation occurred. My wife had her resurfacing procedure on 12/30/2011. The picture below is her, seven years postoperatively at the top of Whistlers Blackcomb mountain, one of her favorite places. She is pain-free, and is able to roller skate, ride bikes, bowl skate and snowboard. Dr Gross gave me my wife back. She is pain-free, and off all pain medicine. She has no activity restrictions and lives life without a thought of the pain she was previously in. Dr Grosss protocol and surgical skill are obviously becoming internationally renowned. He is a fantastic doctor, and if you are looking at getting a hip resurfacing I can think of no better place to go. Several years after my wife had her hip resurfacing, my mother-in-law needed a total hip arthroplasty, and was able to have a hip resurfacing with Dr Gross. It similarly went flawlessly. He has my highest recommendation. Look nowhere else.

Had a great experience all round. Always a daunting experience to have surgery and Dr Gross and his team made it a calming experience even during COVID-19. The pre-op was great and the drug protocols prepared me for the surgical procedures. I’ve had stomach issues in the past as a result of surgery and protonix was given to a avoid this which avoided my usual issues. I was prepped and went into the theatre and was under anesthesia before I realized. I woke up in recovery and the nursing staff were there when I needed something. Post surgery I didn’t experience any pain. I had some mild muscle discomfort but that was it. I was on crutches for a week and a walking stick for another week. I took it easy for the remainder of the six weeks as advised. Just had my six week follow up and I’m walking normally without a limp. Starting on the phase II exercises now and it’s all going well and I’m getting my flexibility back and starting to be able to go up stairs normally. If you’re thinking about a total hip replacement then “don’t” do anything until you explore resurfacing. I would challenge any advice by THR surgeons and reach out to Dr Gross who has years of data to back up why resurfacing is a better option if you’re the right candidate
