Dr. Powell is the best of the best! I am incredibly picky about health care providers. He works collaboratively with parents & I learn something from him every time we talk. Highly recommend!

My children have been going to Dr. Powell since my nine yr old was almost one years old. He was always sick as a baby, Dr. Powell asked us to bring him in to be his doctor and it was no time my sons immune system was built up so much that now he rarely gets sick. If he does he’s better in no time. Dr. Powell believes in getting the kid better without giving medicine every time, sure there was long nights I wished he had given us something but in the end it definitely worked out for the best! To me and my family he’s the best doctor in town!

My 3.5 year old has been seeing Dr. Powell since he was a newborn. I absolutely love the care that he has gotten. I love the fact that Dr. Powell doesnt automatically push antibiotics because they arent always necessary. He is very matter of fact and spends a lot of time explaining things and usually cites medical studies to back up the info that he gives me. My son loves going to see him and the staff have always been incredibly nice.

My daughter and I love Dr. Powell! He is full of wisdom and definitely not quick to push any meds. I remember how patient and kind he was when my now 8 year old was a baby and I was an overly concerned new mother. When she had a blocked saliva duct and needed a scan at the hospital he surprised us by being there and looking at the scans right then and there. Easing our minds instead of is having to wait the weekend for results. She likes him so much she called him uncle Powell for awhile. Love his staff there too! So sweet!

We moved from Tennessee a few months ago and I was very reluctant on who I picked for my 3 littles Pediatrician. I have to say, I am so very pleased with Dr Powell and his wonderful, caring, genuine staff! I was convinced that being up to date with everything digital makes the Dr. now I know that that’s just not true. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Powell and his staff for your children!

The staff at the office - excellent. The wait time - excellent. The actual services rendered - not so good. I have no children of my own, but I have been in his practice multiple times with friends and their children. Once, they wanted my friends child to take his socks off and show them his feet. I cracked a joke about him not being able to hide needle marks between his toes anymore, and while everyone laughed it off, especially after seeing quite clearly there were no needle marks and no other signs of this FOUR-YEAR-OLD using drugs... they still called a few days later to check up on the patient and basically accused my friend of drugging her preschooler. There have been multiple occasions when Dr. Powell would avoid giving antibiotics or tell a parent to just let a disease ride its course, only for those same parents to be told by a second doctor that their child is looking at a hospital visit if they dont get antibiotics as soon as possible. Twice, he has told parents to hold off on a test or procedure until the child was older, only to have another doctor hand over immediate referrals to specialists who could handle the problem now. I am all for not running unnecessary tests or putting kids on medications they dont actually need... but there is a huge difference between not giving a toddler ADD medication and letting a staph infection run its course. I may not have kids now, but when I do, they will NOT be seeing Dr. Powell.

Dr. Powell is fantastic. I researched and chose him before my first child was born. I have MANY friends that run to the doctor every time their child has a fever. Their children are constantly on antibiotics and other meds. My 10 year old had an ear infection after swimming when she was 4 and had to have antibiotics. Both of my children have had most of the general childhood coughs, fevers, itches, etc. Other than the 1 ear infection my 10 year old has never had another antibiotic. My 8 year old has never been prescribed an antibiotic. He has told me that fevers are the bodies way of fighting the infection/illness. Let the body do what it was designed to do. I firmly believe the reason my children are so healthy is because Dr. Powell encouraged us to let their illnesses run their course rather than medicating. Their bodies have built up fantastic immune systems. If you like giving your kids medicines for every ache, pain, sniffle, fever, this isnt the doctor for you.

Weve gone to see Dr. Powell for years and love his practice. Hes a no-nonsense kind of doctor and really encourages kids to be kids. I love that he doesnt medicate for everything. I trust this man completely - wish he took adults too!

We have been blessed to have Dr. Powell care for our children for over 14 years now. He and his staff are always friendly and easy to talk to. 💓 All five of my children love Dr. Powell and his staff, weve had to see other Drs when his office has been closed and its a nightmare, the littles especially except no substitute for our sweet caring pediatrician.💓

I initially chose Dr. Powell because he was flexible about vaccination schedules. I like that he is largely non-interventionist. However, when my child did have a serious problem as an infant, I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously in a timely manner, and that I was dismissed as being an overly anxious first time parent. While I do recommend Dr. Powell, I also recommend bothering him frequently if there is something wrong with your child. However, I do feel as though we have a better doctor-patient relationship after the ordeal. He is moderately okay at keeping appointments. I would estimate a 30 minute average wait past your appointment time to be seen, which isnt bad by Huntsville standards. We usually schedule appointments at the end of the day, when the wait times stack up. Given that he takes as much time to explain things to you as he does, I can understand the wait time, and wouldnt change a thing.
