Had to use other VA Medical Facilities in the past, we finally settled down in Catlettsburg KY, this VA Medical Facility is the best one, the staff is friendly, my PCM is great taking time to actually go in depth about my past and present conditions. Getting treated for PTSD and TBI in the Mental Health Dept has been great, the Doctor is very professional and group therapy is awesome. I would and fo recommend this VA Medical Facility to others

1. ya a 1 star. This is my third VA. Just a number to them. They really dont care. This is in my experience. Others have said its great. I think they were told or paid to tell me that. Lol😆 Im sure its good for some but not for this guy. I had better care In Iraq. And it sucked. I avoided any medical unless necessary.Sad is what it is. Ok im done. Good luck battles.

The hospital and staff are excellent in the care they give my dad.. only problem I have is that there isnt enough handicap parking for the vets.. you have all the wheelchairs at the entrance, when in turn you need to have some kind of building and wheelchairs in the parking lots.. I have sat here and watched countless vets struggle to walk to the main entrance to get a wheelchair.. just my opinion.. other than that have no complaints.. thank you for the help you give to the vets and families of the vets

Not a regular patient at this facility, nor was I here via the Traveling Veteran Program just passing through. However I will give a brief review. This type of review is more of a compliment / informal memo / commentary on my brief experience here. Just a quick nod to the VA and what I would consider as a form or best practices while briefly on the grounds.Old school style brick building has me walking around a bit in awe, reminding of some parts of the Chicago Veteran Affairs Hospital Campus as well as some of the ones in Northern Arizona most of the newer hospitals at large cities wont have these type of historical aesthetics.Honestly I wasnt hear for an appointment I was here late a night due to a bit of PTSD from a little too much built up stress and exhaustion from driving so much.At least the VA Police Officer was understanding that I was just passing through the area and not really try camp out there.I just needed a breather of the freeway so that I could safely make it to the next rest area.I think it helped that I walked up to him with both my hands clearly visible and halfway up in the air with my I.D. since it was like 3 in the Morning. Had to run lots of night missions while in the service.Sometimes my circadian rhythm gets a little off or I cant even hardly get to sleep due to adrenal glands being taxed out.Appreciate once he verified I wasnt a safety hazard he let me take a breather from driving.I really was burning the midnight oil partially due to a little bit of a mini physical health crisis with a severe bacterial infection. Was basically in the process of driving halfway across the country seeking medical help elsewhere.Ill probably will not ever be at this VA again but I do appreciate them having good Officers that dont start off with too aggressive of an approach. He was very chill and helped my calm down and not seem like a complete basket case.I dont normally try to go on to VA campuses unless I have a scheduled appointment or need to go to the ER. However this was a rare exception.Good Bless the staff here and have a Happy Indepeence Day!Sorry there needs to be way more Rest Areas in some parts of the U.S. I will start lobbying the Auto Insurance companies to Sponsor more Safety Zones like GEICO and State Farm does in some states. Hint Hint U.S.A.A. But I digress that should be mentioned to a different branch of GOVERNMENT probably.

Im a disabled veteran p&t. The care here is often hit or miss. I have been through a few primary care physicians and most of them are foreign and dont speak clear English. Getting in to see your pcp is often booked out months in advance. Once you finally get in to see your doctor, they rush you out and dont take the time to truly listen to your concerns and questions. Most issues are met with prescriptions instead of true care. To get anything done requires consults, more doctors and months of waiting. Whatever happened to your main doctor being able to handle minor surgeries and other simple issues? Now everything is consult, consult, consult. Ridiculous. Mental health on the other hand has improved considerably. I could go on, but honestly who has time to read all this?

Please veterans, if you value your health, please do not waste your time and or put your health at risk, by going to this VA hospital. This hospital, along with Chillicothe and Cincinnati VA hospitals, are completely useless. I spent 10 hours at this facility and left with more questions then answers. It took one of my family members to call them and ask them about my blood results before they actually called me and said that my liver wasnt functioning properly. I had to sit there and listen to their staff talk bad about veterans and how they enjoy calling the police on veterans who get out of line. This place is down right despicable and all they care about his how many hours they are getting and how much their pay check is going to be. Im serious, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! By the way, I had to give them a 1 because I cant give them a 0 like they deserve!

Huntington VA is trash. They have caused me way more heartache, and frustration. Dont have one halfway good thing to say about them. Have me hoping Trump privatizes medical care for Vets. They treat patients like lab rats. Letting Marshall students practice on us. Ordering unnecessary test. Screw that place. Honestly think the government wants us to kill ourselves off, so they dont have to deal.

Took my dad for a neurology appointment and the doctor was so thorough and listened to everything we had questions about. My dad was also in quite a bit of pain from a fall he had taken. Got in to see a nurse practioner who could’nt write a script for pain meds but quickly got us in with a doctor who gave my dad a script. We also got eye glasses adjusted and my dad was issued a new rolling walker which was a lifesaver! I was so pleased with his visit and all that we were able to accomplish! Everyone was super nice and so very helpful!

What I love about Huntington is friendly staff, few lines, and solid general care.My in patient experience with my service dog has been stellar and the hospital setting is peaceful. What I dont like: transportation issues (when I first arrived), diminishing benefits, ( I lost 1500 in clothing allowances this year alone) and constantly being farmed out to specialty services in the community. This is challenging, particularly in a rural Appalachian area where it is one hour or more to go to one appt each way.I have received very good Urgent/ ER care, but I have received more than two thousand in ambulance bills due to poor technical writing on behalf of the ambulance drivers and not getting approvals for travel resulting in several appeals for all of my transportation expenses. I am currently 700 in debt after three appeals for transportation costs. This equates to 70% of my disability income for one month. I have been endangered of homelessness on more than one occasion due to disappearing rehabilitation state funding and increased federal bureaucracy. There is a lack of housing sources for women veterans with mobility impairments and service dogs.We simply are not offered the same level of care as our male veteran counterparts in Barboursville Housing program. Handicap parking for outpatient services in the clinics are very hard to come by.The hospital cafeteria and canteen staff are friendly. The chaplain has a strong spirituality program. Women support groups here are unheard of, but the Womens Clinic staff is friendly.VA HUD VASH counselor and subsidized housing is one of the best experiences to date. I finally got VRE services after the fourth application, my experience is very good, so far.Still waiting on approval for mobility grant. Going on 15 months and still waiting....I fight every day to take another step. I was trained not to show weakness, pain and vulnerability. I am often misunderstood, and called honey and sweetie. However, the staff members with strong military experience are very accommodating.Employment has been another issue. I had a horrible experience with employment in Charleston at the Outreach. I was denied CWT for Hospital employment, and I finally found an excellent employment specialist, whom was hired by the VA. I am elated for the VA, however, to my knowledge, no replacement yet for Huntington Outreach.Overall, the hospital experience is good, but there are definite barriers to integrating care and service connection.

In addition to my primary care doctor at the Huntington VAMC, I also see many of the specialists on a regular basis. I must say that all the doctors, nursing staff, and other workers are always courteous and respectful toward me. Oh, sometimes I hear others grumble, but I cant understand why they complain, and neither do I have any control over what others.say. Therefore, I just move on, knowing I am often thanked for my service and treated kindly by those who work there, and this veteran is most appreciative of it all.
