We can’t even explain how thankful we are for Red Star Kennel! We brought our Staffordshire Terrier/Poodle puppy (weird mix we know - she has the attitude to reflect it!) to Red Star Kennel for the whole month of July. Before bringing her to camp, Harlow acted like she was the one in control. We dealt with constant jumping, lunging/pulling, and barking/growling from our hyper and anxious puppy. Her aggressiveness progressed and we knew we had to find help since we had tried other camps and trainers who were no help to our Harlow. After talking on the phone to Irina before bringing her there we knew that Red Star was the place to take her.Here we are, almost a month after picking her up and we couldn’t be happier! Harlow is now an obedient, calm, and happy dog who knows her place in the house. Everyday things like having guests over and walking past strangers no longer gives us or Harlow anxiety like it used to. Irina and Mark are simply the best and know exactly how to deal with a difficult dog like Harlow was. We were updated weekly with how she was doing along with pictures to put our minds at ease. We strongly recommend bringing your puppy or dog to Red Star Kennel if you are dealing with a challenging furry friend!

Totally amazing work. Everyone who knows Leo is saying hes a different dog. Hes calmer and I dare say happier on walks and not so anxious anymore. And he heels while walking instead of trying to pull. Absolutely awesome results!

9 years ago I came to Red Star Kennel. I had a wonderful but difficult pup. They worked with him for a few weeks and Ive been thankful to them ever since. Im writing this now because as my dogs life is coming to an end Im even more greatful to them for helping me with training so that the last decade was possible.

A private lesson with Mark gave us the confidence that we could train our dogs (and how) within an hour. We got down the basics and what to do daily with the dogs which I feel is priceless. Mark went above and beyond with us and we are certainly going for more training soon to take our dogs training to the next level!

I dont suggest going here they did an amazing job but they must of zapped our dog so much all he does is lay around now It seems like he has no personality I have my dog back but it feels like my dogs really not back

If you are having issues with your puppy, please send them to Red Star Kennel. Like many other reviews, I was worried that our 1.5-year-old sheepadoodle, George, would either come home acting like a robot or would not have shaken all of his bad behavior. I was wrong. A little bit about our situation for background: We took George to Puppy Training and Obedience 1 classes right away. He completed them, but we could never get him to settle down or stop biting. We had a traditional trainer come to the house twice to see what he was like with us at home. We got some tips and were told to use a pinch collar to walk him. That worked for a little bit, but then he didnt respect the pinch anymore. We later brought in a dog relater (aka a dog whisperer type) on two occasions. The goal was to place George on the floor when he got out of control and hover over him to calm him down. After making a little progress, we knew this was not going to help the behavioral problems we were having. We often times thought George just needed more exercise, but his constant biting (truly - it was every second he was out of the kennel or playpen) and inability to calm down was making life very stressful. He would go through hundreds of dollars of bully sticks a month because it was the only way he could be out and not bite us or do naughty things. I reached out to the trainers we had worked with and none of them recommended their board and train programs because they wanted his owners to teach him. As much as I understood this thinking, I realized if something didnt change... George would likely have to find a new home. When I spoke with Mark, I knew we needed to send him and he made me hopeful our dog could be fixed for lack of a better term. The week before we sent him to Red Star, he laid down on the couch and didnt do anything. My boyfriend and I looked at each other and smiled excitedly -- It was only the second time in a year and a half that we had seen our dog relax. With that buzzkill realization, we knew we were making the right choice and we crossed our fingers for a miracle. George went off to boot camp for a month... and he came home the dog I had hoped for when I first decided to get a puppy. I 100% recommend the work Irina and Mark do. They allow the owners AND the dogs to have the lives they never could have dreamed of. Our dog is now able to just exist in the world. He is well behaved and sweet. All of the fun and unique parts of his personality remain, hes just a lot more relaxed, which is exactly how it should be. George is able to be around people calmly and therefore can do a lot more with us. Good behavior goes a long way, and I cannot thank Irina and Mark enough for helping us out so we could enjoy life with George. I only wish we had brought our puppy to them sooner -- we would have saved more on training in the long run... and saved ourselves a year and a half of frustration. Red Star should be your go-to for training. Next pup we get will be heading straight to Hudson. Thank you, Red Star Kennel! About a year and a half ago we took our seven month female Malinois puppy to Mark to get her started on basic obedience. Mark suggested, given us living on 40acres of prairie, we use an e- collar. We had never trained with one, always using a prong collar. It turned out perfect! In fact once home et rarely had to use it. She has been the most well disciplined puppy we have ever had. Quiet, calm and responsive to commands. Half of this can be attributed to excellent breeding by Ruidoso Malinois, the other half is definitely the great training received at Red Star Kennel. Fantastic dog training facility

I sent my Great Dane here for four days, while I was away for the weekend. I was a little nervous, but they took great care of her. She seemed happy when I picked her up. I was a little confused about the location initially because the direction I came from, I could not see the sign, just what looked like a residence. If youre coming from Burkhardt, their sign is not visible from the residence street. They have it in the yard on a street that connects to theirs. It was kind of confusing. Otherwise, great care, nice staff (minus one lady who seemed unhappy), but overall a five star experience.

Staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable. We adopted a rescue dog and tried many different dog training programs and none helped out our dogs behavior. We finally gave Red Star Kennel a try and although its a bit of a drive from minnesota, it is totally worth it. Our dog has come so far now its hard to believe its the same dog.

We loved our puppy, but in all honesty we didnt always like her. Lots of behavioral issues that only became more difficult to control as she grew. And grew. And grew... We needed help.There arent enough accolades I can give the Red Star Kennel team for the amazing job theyve done with our girl. Kiki is now a well behaved 11 month old who seems very happy understanding that there are rules and even seems (mostly) happy to follow them. The transformation has been like night and day. I really believe that Red Star Kennel training is one of the best investments you can make in your pet.Five stars all day long. Thank you, Red Star Kennel team!

Puppy bootcamp experience: Amazing trainers and staff, fantastic customer experience, and shockingly well behaved puppy.A few months ago we took home a golden retriever pup. Unsurprisingly, he was a ton of work. He was also more aggressive and stubborn than we expected a golden retriever to be. Pair that with a 3 year old daughter who loves to wrestle, run, dance while wearing long princess dresses, and play with small/chewable toys and we found ourselves spending most of our evenings separating the two or on high alert for chewing or nipping. All blankets and pillows had to be put out of reach. My daughter was often frustrated and asked why should couldn’t play in our living room where we keep his kennel. After a few puppy-tooth punctures in her favorite toys or dresses, her relationship with the pup turned a bit love/hate.After some encouragement from other friends with dogs we started searching for a puppy boot camp and have been thrilled with our choice of Red Star Kennel. Three weeks later and our pup was/is extremely well behaved. He is amazing on a leash. His obedience basics are fantastic. “Go to your place” has been amazing for keeping our floors dry while the yard is covered in snow. There is no jumping on people or furniture. His social skills with other dogs are great. We can wash dishes without him attempting to climb into the dishwasher. I can tell him to “stay” and leave the room, grab a soda from the garage, etc. and he will be sitting where I left him when I get back. Mark is a miracle worker.Most importantly, Mark and Irina did an amazing job teaching my wife and I how to raise a well behaved, balanced dog. They answered every question we had and went above and beyond to help settle our pup’s stomach (which has been an issue since we first got him). In fact, Irina spent about 30 minutes with me over the phone before I was even a customer, after our pup had bit my nephew in a less than playful manor. She helped me understand the situation, aspects of the pup’s personality, and how we could adjust our training and his space.I highly recommend Red Star Kennel.

We took our two Border Terriers in to Red Star Kennel for training and could not be more impressed. The entire staff we met with and / or came in contact with were all professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. Although it is a bit out of our way to drop our dogs there, we would never consider boarding them anywhere else. This is a top notch place!

Amazing facility! The cleanest kennel I have ever seen. It makes me feel comfortable to know that the owner and staff are knowledgable in basic first aid, training, and can read a dogs mood and/or behavior. We have had Max and Gunner home after training for almost a month now. I wont lie I was expecting to pick up my two dogs and be told Were sorry they cannot be trained! It was the other side of the world opposite. We were greeted of course by our dogs that missed us terribly but they were so in control. We would get updates and of course see pics on Facebook but lets be honest Facebook is always about making your life look perfect to the world. Not here my two dogs were so smart and so in complete control it brought tears to my eyes. Honestly this level of training doesnt come cheap and Im here to tell you the results are priceless!!! I worried Id have little robot dogs waiting to be commanded and what I got back was Max with confidence and understanding of his role in our pack. My wife and I wanted to put ourselves in the program so we could be as smart as they made our dogs. Words cannot speak enough to the great job theyve done for our dogs and our home with them! Absolutely Wonderful Trainer. She was very intune and understood the difficult behaviors we were dealing with and talked me through all of them. I will be forever grateful for her honest feedback and insight.

Irina and her team fulfilled their promise to train our year old rescued German Shepherd in basic obedience, with an emphasis on heeling and staying nearby when off leash. In addition, our dog was generally more settled and less skittish after spending four weeks at Red Star. This calmer disposition and the response to commands continues to be effective three months later.Trainers and dogs spend time together daily. Training takes place in a variety of environments around the community as well as at the training facility--an excellent way to acclimate dogs to a variety of conditions. The goal is to teach them to respond to commands no matter where they are--a good thing for dogs and owners alike.Facilities are well maintained and provide ample space for dogs to exercise and play with other dogs. Red Star was recommended to us by a friend whose dog was terrified of cars after being hit by one. It was paralyzed with fear any time it was near a vehicle. They had worked with multiple trainers to overcome the dogs extreme anxiety without success, but Irina effectively addressed the problem.We are very glad to have found Irina. This was an excellent investment for us and our dog.

We have nothing but great things to say about Red Star, Irina is 100% in tune with the canine psyche. We have adopted rescue dogs who sometimes come with issues that need to be addressed. We put one of our rescue dogs in the boot camp and Irina also did a home visit to help us with door manners as we have 3 dogs. We have noticed such an improvement in their behavior since we worked with her. She has also given us the confidence, encouragement and tools to take control and be better leaders to our dogs. I highly recommend Red Star for dogs with issues and for puppies to develop strong basic training stills that they will use for the rest of their lives!

Our German Shepherd, Max, was 18 months when we took him to stay with Irina and the Red Star Kennel staff in the spring of 2011. Although Max is a locally bred GSD, we got him from a rescue and he had developed some bad behaviors. We picked him up six weeks later and he had undergone an incredible transformation under the professional training of Irina and others at Red Star. We highly recommend Red Star and will definitely bring our next dog there for training.

We have had all great experiences with Irina and her staff at Red Star Kennel. We have brought our rescue dog Jax there for obedience training as well as several times for boarding and have always felt/known he was cared for and safe just as he would be in our home. Everyone there TRULY cares for the well being of your fur baby. Irina is always very helpful and willing to give advice if needed with your dogs behavior. She is full of knowledge and I really appreciate all the help she has given us with Jax. Another plus is the huge land space the pups get to run around on. They get lots of space to play and tire themselves out!

I cant say enough good things about Red Star. We brought one of our poodles to their 4 week boot camp, and man what a difference it made! All of our concerns with barking, nipping, leash walking, being nervous around other dogs, and jumping were completely gone. Not to mention he was now super attentive and would always listen to what wed say.Weve brought our new poodle puppy for a few lessons (to make sure we dont goof up again), and we wish we had started our other earlier with them. Both Mark and Irina are incredibly professional and make our dogs do things we didnt think possible. Mark loves poodles, so we always spend some extra time chatting with him!If we had to (which we wont now), I would not hesitate to use their boot camp services again. Their private lessons are the best weve found in the area, and well be using them for years to come!

I sent my bull terrier puppy there for 4 weeks for a puppy bootcamp. When I picked him up he had much better manners and a clear understanding of his position in my pack. I highly recommend a puppy bootcamp at Red Star if you are looking to jump start your obedience work with your puppy or dog. Its so much easier to let the professionals start your dog in its training- making it much easier for you to continue training with your dog throughout its lifetime.

Red Star Kennel is the Nordstroms of dog training! We did a few private lessons and the boot camp and our misbehaving 9 month old dog went from eating everything in sight (socks, dead animals, litter) and getting sick a lot, playing too rough with our children, biting, jumping and being reactive on the leash to having manners, understanding and following no and being safer for his own sake, our families and neighbors and being a joy to be around. As a busy responsible pet owners, we wanted fast, easy solutions that worked and we got them. Mark underpromised and overdelivered! Our stress from having a misbehaving dog is gone, we are all, including our dog, so much happier, and safer.
