I had Lumbar Fusion surgery a months weeks ago with Dr. Esses and he is an excellent doctor! He has been available to answer any questions I had regarding my surgery before and after the surgery. He is kind, caring, and patient. He explains thoroughly the procedures before the surgery and provides proper instruction for after the surgery (for recovery). I am really satisfied with Dr. Esses and I highly recommend him. Very professional service and care.

Worst doctor ever does not spend any time with you but a couple minutes, is it even is a couple minutes? I have a broken disc and gave me medication only for 7 seven day and requested therapy. I have been going to therapy and after 3 months I have requested a refill obviously I am not misusing my medication and can not even give me a refill without being seen. This is the worst ever just a waste of money. I do not see the point of being seen, I have a broken disc and there will always be pain. All they want to do is take your money.

Dr. Esses is an answer to prayer. I had a back condition since the age of 17 (am 36 now). I started seeing Dr. Esses since 2017 and expressed my refusal to have surgery. I told him that I wanted to exhaust all other forms of therapy and he listened to my concerns. I tried everything and then I started noticing that I began to get worse. After trying multiple therapies, it was decided that a microdiscectomy at L4- L5 would really help me. I can honestly say that after almost 4 weeks of surgery, I am pain free. I cant believe it! Dr. Esses is wonderful.

I literally went down a list of orthopedic doctors till I found them. They were able to fit me in that day. They put in an order for an MRI. And I called them everyday to see if the insurance had approved it and once I had the MRI I called until they said I had the results. Through the whole time they were patient never an attitude very professional.

Dr Esses and his team are amazing. He seemed to intuitively know exactly what the diagnosis would be, but confirmed it with an MRI. Then, before recommending surgery he recommended a more conservative treatment (an epidural steroid injection). The steroid injection provided only very minor relief, so the next step was surgery (or potentially years of pain). We discussed the options. I had never had an IV even, but Dr E and his team were so knowledgeable it really put me at ease, it made sense to proceed with surgery. The day of surgery the surgical team (I think six different people) all introduced themselves, and told me what they would be doing during the surgery. These were a bunch of smart, capable people, I knew that I would be well taken care of. Once I was prepped, the PA came on: Green Light Dr. Esses - it was time. They wheeled me into the OR; I remember it being impeccably clean and very modern looking, and just as I was able to make that assessment, I was out. I woke from surgery, and immediately noticed that ALL of the nerve pain in my leg was gone, replaced with pain around the incision from surgery, pain that will go away as the incision heals. I went from not being able to tie my own shoes to having NO PAIN. Since then Dr E and his team have been easily accessible and very helpful, recovery from surgery is going well, Im ecstatic about the results.

Would not recommend at all my dad has been having a lot of pain and the doctor didn’t explain to him with detail he spent not even a minute in the room with us talking he did not give him medicine or anything he just sent him to therapy when he cannot resist the pain that’s all the action he took. When he was with us they called him on the phone and he left did my even say that is it any other question he just walked out the room without saying anything and another guy from the desk came in saying that was it how can someone like this be a doctor. He did not even give him medicine or anything we went twice and they haven’t done anything at all and every time my dad went he had to pay 50$ it’s very unfair to pay for that doctor to just touch his back and walk out very rude,unprofessional definetley would not recommend at all. My dad had to pay those 50$ fee for that guy so see him for less than a minute and make no change. DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMEND

Dr. Esses has done two spine surgeries. The first one allowed me the use of my legs again and drastically cut my pain in half. The second helped stabilize my fusion (I have Cerebral Palsy so Im more at risk for complications).He has amazing beside manner and really does care about his patients health and safety. His entire team from receptionist through his operating staff are all wonderful and welcoming.I highly recommend Dr. Esses and am thankful that I have found him!

Dr Esses saw me quickly due to my immense pain, read the MRIs and understood I am having major problems. Was quick to come up with a plan and prescribe me the pain killers I needed to cope until surgery.Surgery went well with no complications and Im very pleased with the entire experience.

Absolutely horrible experience the only good thing was the short wait time. The reason for such a short wait time is that Stephen only spends about 1 minute with each patient. He gives no advice or recommendations about pain relief and walks out before you can even ask a question.

Excellent surgeon. I had a very debilitating back injury that Dr. Esses tried to correct (or at least ease constant pain) without surgery. Unfortunately, that didnt work. He performed the surgery and I am so much better.

Extremely arrogant. Literally spent less than 5 seconds looking at my x ray. We talked for less than 2 minutes. Didnt introduce himself. Didnt even say bye, just got up and walked out. The nurse came in a few minutes later and I had to ask her if he was done talking to me. I had to have her tell him to come back to the room because I had a few questions. I ended up waiting about 10 minutes. and he seemed irritated and not willing to elaborate on anything. Turn and burn just like all the other doctors out there. It has been a few weeks since my appointment and I am still bothered by his ill character and the fact that the appointment and x rays and so little help cost me so much money.

All my experience with process of doctor visits are performed efficiently. All staff are polite and provide excellent customer service skills and proficient in their duties. Dr. Esses is caring, professional who explains all details of treatment and options clearly.

I received valuable medical information about my spine/back today that I did not receive years ago and I have been wondering why I am in so much pain everyday for the last 17 years. Thank you Dr. Esses.

I just had a discectomy on my L5 S1. I just went to my 2 weeks check up, Doctor Esses removed the 13 staples. I still have a few weeks more of recovery. I was in constant pain for 4 years.... low back pain that radiated down both of my legs. He sent for an MRI, it was a herniated disc. He also sent me for an e.m.g./nerve test to see how damaged were my nerves. He saw the results and told my husband and I that that herniated disc was pinching my nerves......causing damaged. He told me that the nerves were also repairable. I was nervous about the whole ordeal. I called Louise, his secretary and explained to her how I felt, she then transferred me to Doctor Esses, he took the time to answer all my questions via phone. I was so much more in peace after our conversation; so I was now more certain about having surgery. I pray and hope this was the first and last. His anesthesiologist, also spoke to us and explained everything a week before surgery. I really liked that. He also took the time answering questions and doubts. Robin the nurse there was also very sweet and helpful. Over all, Doctor Esses staff were all good. From the front desk to the nurses inside too! The appointment waiting time is also not long. I was referred to this surgeon by my chiropractor doctor J. I will come back in a few weeks to keep everyone posted! Thank you kindly. Blessings!

Have had a great experience with him so far. After years of low back pain and various recurrences, the last one earlier this year, I finally got an MRI that showed a moderate/severe herniated disc in my L5 S1. I was not satisfied with the first doctor I went to, so I looked up a second doctor and went to Dr Esses. From our first meeting, I really liked his approach. He gave me various options including non-invasive and surgery. At that point I had already gone 7 weeks of physical therapy without success. I got two epidural injections after meeting with Dr Esses, which helped a bit, but not enough. i went back to him and told him I wanted surgery. He agreed, and 7 days later I was going through the procedure. I saw him yesterday, and everything is going as planned, they will take staples out on Monday. Recovery still ongoing, and my nerve was very inflamed/affected so it will take weeks/months for proper healing but I am hopeful my life will improve. Most of my pain pre-surgery is gone, but I still have some pain as the nerve heals. I really like Dr Esses, he projects a lot of confidence and trust to me. His style is to the point, focused, and efficient, and I appreciate that from his practice and office staff in general. The in and out time for appointments is very quick usually. I see some comments here that he many not want to answer your questions, I do not think that is true but it would be useful if you take a list of your questions if that’s the case and focus on that. If you want to chat 25min with the doctor, he may not be your best option, but I al very satisfies with him through this process so far and grateful he operated on me and got that large disc fragment out. Only time will tell how I recover.

I was very nervous about having surgery. I knew the pain was too much and researched doctors. Really appreciate the staff and Doctor Esses. Made me feel comfortable about my decision.

My experience here has been excellent. The nurses and Dr is very prompt with service. They treat each individual patient with respect. I also like that the Dr is trying to find ways to help manage my pain other than just medication.

First of all I, see a few negative comments: about DR: Esses does not have bedside manners and being ruled. I, thought he was kinda ruled to me once. Then i thought about how many surgeries, and he also works out of 3 offices. DR: Esses, just has a lot on his mind cause he is a busy doctor. I, had my surgery on 4-29-2019 and every thing went well. I, would recommend DR: Esses, to anyone that need surgery. his staff is very kind.Park Plaza hospital every one was very kind, and sweet to me. all the staff took really good care of me. Dr. Essess gets you in and out and answers whatever questions you may have. I love that I can get an appointment within a couple days and have little to no wait time when I get to my appointment. The front desk staff can be a little difficult, but they are efficient and I had zero issues with them getting my short term disability paperwork done and turned in with little work on my end.

After multiple years of back and neck issues, and having gone through every conservative option available with many, many doctors, I went to Dr. Esses for a consultation for my low back. He was very thorough and requested additional testing beyond my previous MRIs and X-Rays to confirm his suspicions before even considering surgery as an option. It was comforting to know that he wanted to get to the root of the problem and was fine slowing down the process to do things the right way. Once the additional testing was complete, and it was determined I was a candidate for surgery we scheduled the procedure. I am two weeks out from surgery now, but noticed an immediate difference from before surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Esses and would personally have no concerns about returning to him if I ever needed anything in the future.

My wife had surgery 7 months ago for lower back pain. Today she is back where she started as far as pain and ability to do all the things we take for granted. Such as being able to walk, do house chores, go to work, enjoy Grandkids and living a pain free life.We feel that Dr. Esses did not fully address the problem in full. Nothing was done to repair the bone spurs or affected disks. We didnt understand why Dr. Esses didnt mention this immediately after surgery or when she had the almost 30 staples removed.Regretting not getting second opinion.

Dr. Esses is very knowledgeable and offers advice that makes sense to a layperson. His staff is very efficient and accommodating.

I felt like the Dr. just wanted to get out of the room as soon as possible and didnt really care if you had any questions. He didnt even communicate about the medication he was prescribing me. I was surprised when I got a call from an unknown pharmacy about filling my prescription that I had no knowledge about. I also had a hard time reaching the office manager Stephanie. I would leave messages and she would never return my calls to I had to keep calling back until I finally got an answer. Im even having difficulty reaching someone to confirm my payment and getting a receipt. Everyone at the office seems to lack communication skills.

Doctor came in and saw my wife for a few minutes super fast and then referred us to go somewhere else. Looking back at these reviews they must be fake 5 star reviews because who only makes 1 review on a place and then has no profile photo

Had coccyx pain and lower back pain, went through injections, PT, manual therapy, etc... for nearly a year. Many doctors in Austin left me with little hope for a less painful future, or saw nothing wrong with my MRIs ( I had around 8). Dr. Esses immediately saw bruising in my bone marrow and said if I had tried all options, surgery can and would help. His confidence was astounding and 2 weeks after a coccygectomy, I can already feel there is a better future ahead.

Dr Esses didnt want to spend any time.He could not wait to get out of the room. He got irritated because I asked couple of questions. It is very unfortunate to have a provider this disengaged and non caring with patient. Staffs were nice . He as a provider didnt care at all.

He spent less than 2 minutes looking at my x-rays too...because that is all he needed. He is not there to make friends but to fix your back and he fixed mine with surgery for stenosis, using an operation he invented and perfected. I recommend him highly. He is a true professional. It was ok but Im still having back and nerve issue..I had surgery 9 mos ago....but Im not going to say anything negative on this post what ever issue I have I have to take it up with him..with God on my side.. But Im in a lots of pain...staff was great...sent me to theraphy didnt really help..became depressed again...but I dont want to go thru depression again.
