I’ve been with SPACE for two years, since it was Kids Connect OT. My son worked with an excellent therapist, Alyson. When the company moved, I drove 30 minutes away each week, to continue with her. She is great with my son, building trust and rapport with him. She helped me understand my son’s sensory processing issues, and provided dozens of techniques to help at home. When challenges came up at school, she talked through them with me, did an observation at school and had a conference with his teacher. She was positive and encouraging about my son’s progress, and I felt like I had another person in my corner to support my son.We also did a social skills class this summer with Meredith, and my son loved her class too.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about SPACE Therapy & Gym. I’ve been a volunteer at SPACE since August 2020 and have gained invaluable knowledge from the therapists, Michelle and Vanessa, and most importantly, the kids. I love how everyone works as a team to provide the best treatment. The facility is very clean and organized. Their staff takes extra precautions with COVID to keep their staff, volunteers, and kids safe. I highly recommended SPACE therapy to those looking for pediatrics services!

I will start this review with that my child has never attended Space Therapy & Gym. The reason she is not there is because this facility will not go to bat for her with the insurance company when she will need additional visits within a calendar year because its hard and a lot of work. I then emailed the billing department and the response was they do not do this because when they have in the past they have been unsuccessful One of my biggest issues with business serving a challenging community is they only want the easy challenges, not the difficult ones. To make it clear they just want to do the bare minimum in the office only speaks potential volumes to what happens in therapy room. I will not every recommend this company or any others with this outlook on service to a community that needs advocates at every level for them.

My infant, now toddler, has been going to Space for about 6 months. Our experience continues to be excellent! Colleen, her PT, is patience, fun, and creative. Her style is a solid blend of challenge and support. Everyone at Space is kind and friendly! Its made our physical therapy journey much easier. If youre looking for a place that cares for your child as much as you do, this is the place. I highly recommend Space!

Im deeply thankful for the Space team. Since our first contact to the last day, they were always welcoming, friendly and supportive, not only to my child but to my whole family. They were always trying to do their best possible to help my daughter progress. Love the fact they have ABA, ST and OT in the same place. Also, when we left, they made our transition to a different country much easier with training mom and lots of support even after our move. Thank you thank you thank you Cant recommend Space team enough!

This is an amazing place! My daughter has attended for the past 2 years and her speech has increased tremendously. I have always received a warm welcome from Vanessa (client coordinator) and have no issues with scheduling and she responds quickly to all my emails. My daughter sees Cris for DIR Floortime and Victoria for speech therapy. These ladies are fantastic! They go above and beyond to make sure my daughter meets all of her goals and is equipped to start school. The professionalism, customer service, and knowledge they possess is outstanding. I highly recommend this clinic and staff.

Words cant begin to express how grateful I am for the tireless, devoted, and passionate clinicians and staff at SPACE. I am forever indebted for the work and support they provided our whole family from day one. My son (who was one month shy of 2 years old) began receiving speech therapy services in August 2020, shortly after moving to Houston in the midst of a pandemic and lockdown. My now 33 month-old son completed his goals and speech therapy in June after 10 months of speech therapy. And to say that I dont even recognize the kiddo chatting with me, requesting, describing what hes seeing, conversing, and playing with his little brother and all of us is an understatement. I am sincerely blown away by how much hes grown and learned since beginning at SPACE. He went from speaking with a very limited vocabulary (maybe 10 words tops) and hes now constructing 2-3 word sentences, speaks at least 500 words (learning and imitating new words daily), and has a newfound confidence that is truly contagious. His joy is infectious and I feel so much hope. His speech pathologist, Ms. Allison, not only helped him find his voice. She helped me find mine too. The staff at SPACE are amazing with children, and you can sense it. Theyre loving and kind and warm, and children can really sense that and feed off that positive energy.I will always worry as a mom, but I worry a little less now thanks to the amazing, invaluable services, individual and group therapy, and support we were fortunate enough to receive from SPACE. You all truly changed our lives and made Houston feel like home. I will forever be grateful and indebted to you.

My 3.5 year old son was in OT for a little over a year at Space (first with Ms. Jordan, then with Ms. Gina). My son loved everyone there and truly thought he was just going to play every week with his friend Ms. Gina. The therapists were kind, engaging, supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable. They did a great job in communicating what was going on in therapy in ways we could understand and implement at home. When my son graduated OT we were given multiple resources to continue his development from home. We are considering getting him re-evaluated for speech therapy and wouldnt go anywhere else. They also take all precautions necessary when it comes to Covid. The new building is awesome, the front office staff is helpful, and we recommend anyone to Space!

I will also share a review even though my daughter only went for the evaluations. Why? Simply stated, they did not meet my expectations of a professional business. My daughter had been receiving OT at Open Door, but I was trying to move her to SPACE since it was closer to my home. The Speech eval was only for 45 mins, was supposed to be an hour, but then I was told by the therapist my child needed one hour of speech 2x a week. Really? She has been in Speech Therapy for years and no reputable organization would recommend that much Speech therapy for a kiddo with SPD. IF a proper evaluation would have taken place, the therapist would have recommended 30 mins 2x a week, which is what I requested. OT therapist also recommended one hour 2x week. Sounds a little greedy to me. At Open Door my kiddo received one hour 1x a week for OT and at Emporium Speech 1-2x a week for 30 minutes (depending on the time of year), all were sufficient. Profits over patients isnt the way I operate. The space was smaller than I expected and the staff was too pushy for my liking and werent accommodating.

The OTs at Space are just amazing. They worked with great patience, care and love during our weekly sessions and provided excellent guidance and support materials to continue the work at home. We are very happy with the year we had with Miss Gina and our little boy was very sad when he didn’t have his regular ‘play date’ with her - those sessions were made very enjoyable and were lots of fun. I cannot recommend this team highly enough - incredible professionals doing incredible work - thank you!

They were kind enough to let me come during COVID and observe a few sessions as Im thinking about working in the field of therapy. These employees were some of the nicest people Ive ever met. They were so friendly and GREAT with all of the kids. The place was so clean, organized, and set up very appropriate based on each childs individual needs. It was such an awesome atmosphere to be in, I highly recommend coming here if youre thinking about it!

I recently finished about 5 weeks of volunteering and observation at SPACE. The staff is so welcoming, friendly, and very knowledgable in their fields. The facilities are always kept very clean, especially during COVID. I am so thankful for my time at SPACE and would recommend it to anyone looking for pediatric therapy services!

My Level 2 OTA Fieldwork experience at SPACE Therapy & Gym was an amazing learning opportunity. I gained invaluable, firsthand knowledge, and I was able to collaborate with intelligent and insightful staff. Gina Drummond, OTD, OTR is a patient and knowledgeable Fieldwork Instructor I was fortunate enough to learn from. She answered my many questions and took time to make sure I had a thorough understanding of the pediatric occupational therapy experience, beginning with the initial evaluation, and ending with discharge, as well as every step in between. The kids loved their therapy sessions and showed me how impactful and far-reaching occupational therapys influence can have on their lives.

Hi everyone,I just wanted to take a moment to thank my friends at Family First Speech in particular Iris. Iris has been my son Jim’s speech therapist for around 4 years now. My son has autism, which greatly impacts his verbal communication. Iris has patiently worked with Jim with amazing energy and an uncanny ability to reach him through the fog of his condition consistently over those years. Iris was Jims first therapist, and through her experience with other autistic children, helped guide our family to other help including ABA therapy at The Shape of Behavior, OT at Kids Connect, and the charity Hope For Three all of which help Jim make the most of life. There are no words that can express the gratitude we feel for having Iris in our lives. Without her, I would have never heard my son say, “I love you daddy”, a priceless gift to any parent.Over the years, I have referred Iris to many parents with autistic kids with language issues. When Iris relocated to Family First Speech, I was extremely happy with the facilities. The therapy rooms are set up with highly interactive play sets that allow the therapists to “play” with the kids. In Jim’s case, it kept him interacting and provided positive reinforcement to work toward during his therapy sessions. Another huge benefit of Family First Speech was that Jim’s therapy sessions were extended to an hour. Although the facilities were excellent at the main site, Jim currently sees Iris at the Shape of Behavior, which allows communication between Jim’s ABA and speech therapy. The location change also means I save around 4 hours a week, a huge boon for single working father. In closing, thank you all so much and I hope my story helps you in some way.Paul

UPDATE 2/2021: 3 years later and we’re still loving it! We work with Ms. Gina for OT and she is hands-down a 100% ABSOLUTE STAR! She is amazing - extremely qualified, well educated, knowledgable, informative, patient, kind, and generous. We are very grateful to have her on our team! We are working with Ms. Sara for Speech and our son has enjoyed his time with her. We also LOVE Ms. Cris with whom weve had some of our most meaningful moments. We cannot wait until she does her social pods again! We also want to give a shout out to Vanessa at the front desk (she is friendly, professional, courteous, kind and responsible) and Judy who works tirelessly (and invisibly) on back-office work. Last but not least, we love and greatly miss getting to work with Ms. Vanessa and Ms. Michelle, the dream team who started this wonderful business and gave us our son back so many years ago. Thank you!ORIGINAL POST: We had the privilege of working with Kids Connect for an intensive 7-week program for our 4-year old son combining Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology (with their partners at Family First). Prior to being referred here, the road we were on was not easy. Around age 3, our sweet and happy boy started becoming angry and aggressive, exhibiting some pretty strong willed and often times defiant behavior. By age 4, his behaviors worsened and started causing problems in school and with friends. We sought help which, before finding Family First, came in the form of mainstream behavioral intervention which focuses primarily on teaching parents how to respond to and correct problem behaviors in children. While these tools worked to elicit a specific behavior from our son, the approach felt very robotic and at times “soldier-like”. We couldnt shake the feeling that we were essentially applying a bandaid to his symptoms without figuring out and tending to the why behind them. Our son’s anger and aggression were still there; we had just effectively gotten him to hold it all in. This just didnt seem right. We had to know why our happy, sweet, affectionate, and loving toddler had become an increasingly angry and aggressive preschooler with his head down anxiously absorbed in his own world. This led us to advocate on his behalf, research all the options and eventually find real, life-changing help with the team at Kids Connect and Family First. Our experience here has been nothing short of amazing. We feel extraordinarily fortunate to have found practitioners of the kind of work they do - its so much more than traditional OT. It is honestly like a whole new world has been opened up for us and for our son. We believe (and hope) it is just a matter of time before the work they do becomes the way everyone works with children. Everything we’ve learned makes sense and feels right. We immediately saw positive results that really helped our son, instead of just putting a bandaid on things. Weve focused on the foundation, the root causes of our sons behaviors, the why, and began treating our sons needs on that very basic level. The results have been astounding. Now, instead of focusing on how to respond to our sons problem behaviors, we are finding that we rarely have any problem behaviors to respond to at all! After only 3 weeks, our son went from needing correction and time-outs several times per day at home and at school...to... now receiving glowing reports daily at school and only 2 time-outs in over 3 weeks. We know we are on a lifelong journey of development but we are so grateful for what this program is doing for our precious son. He is once again the happy little boy he was when he came into this world! The DIR Floor-time model they employ should be standard parent education for everyone with children, not just families with specific needs. But for those of us whos children need additional help, this type of therapy has the potential to dramatically change the trajectory of a childs life. We are forever grateful to Michelle, Leslie, Vanessa, Cris and the entire team at Kids Connect and Family First.
