I’ve gotten acupuncture from both Steve and Reagan and they are both equally amazing. The office that they treat clients in is a very soothing and calming environment and I always leave my sessions feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. I really feel like I get my money’s worth for the amount of care that they put into each acupuncture session. I was skeptical of acupuncture before coming here but now I have no doubt of how effective it is. I can’t recommend this place enough!

I originally found this place and Steve treated my sinus infection I had at the time. Instant results the next day my sinus’ were completely clear and I felt 100 times better! Today was my 10th acupuncture session with Reagan at Balance Houston Acupuncture Clinic, and she is truly wonderful. This has been my first acupuncture experience, and I have been going once per week (focused on fertility). I am not a fan (at all!) of needles, but the way Reagan treats you throughout the process is not only beyond professional, but she is really gentle and cares so much about how you feel. I highly recommend this clinic, and most definitely recommend Reagan! Other tips: It has the added bonus of being in my neighborhood and walkable, although note that there are no sidewalks in this part of 21st street... heads up for anyone who would walk or bike. There is plenty of parking either in front or on the street if needed).

I have been seeing Steve at Balance Houston off and on for over two years. It is not only the experience of acupuncture that has been so life changing but the guidance and wisdom from Steve himself. He doesn’t just treat symptoms. He inquires into underlying causes and is focused on physical and mental health as well. He is passionate about his practice and you feel that in every session. I am so grateful to have found Balance Houston and plan to be a client for a long, long time.

I have been treated by many acupuncturists who I loved and was loyal to for years - having seen the positive reviews for Balance, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I will not be recommending this establishment to my peers or family. Overall, the male practitioner Stephens attitude was pompous and careless. When someone is in an especially vulnerable state physically, I believe it is any body workers duty to make the patient feel totally safe. I was met with haphazard recommendations, ones that I already had known about for years and tried. It was frankly condescending for him to assume I didnt know any of this stuff, and not ask before telling. While Ive felt that from Western doctors as a young woman, I didnt expect a young and intelligent acupuncturist to be equally stunted. The treatment itself was below average in my experience, though some of the points and gadgets were novel and interesting. I additionally received a consult from his colleague, and she did not provide me with any useful information or treatment. I am used to getting 90 minute sessions of acupuncture and cupping for $40 in Austin where I leave feeling like a queen, and this place did not measure up.

There are no words to describe how WONDERFUL my experience was when treated by Reagan Barry! She is kind, friendly, extremely intelligent, motivated and highly knowledgeable in the field of Eastern (acupuncture) as well as Western Medicine. The clinician I saw was Reagan Mabray. (Sorry for the late review!) Her name came up when I was looking for natural therapists who focused on womens health. Post-hysterectomy I knew I wanted holistic care. Reagan put me at ease with a combination of professionalism and warmth. She took time to answer all my questions before, during, and after needling. The needling was very gentle, and she actually asked me whether Id like to keep talking or have a silent session. I asked her to tell me about what she was doing as she went along and it really put me at ease. Afterward she put together a long-term holistic treatment plan to support my bodys changes. Overall, I highly recommend Reagan. I felt I could trust her knowledge and skills, and also felt truly cared about during my visit.

After trying for a child for 6 years, multiple IVF rounds and 2 failed transfers, I decided to try acupuncture for my third transfer. I called three different places and immediately clicked with Balance Acupuncture. Stephen is clearly passionate about working with his patients, especially those trying to conceive. We created a plan of action and 5 weeks later, 6 days after my third transfer, I got my very first positive (ever!) on a home pregnancy test. Stephen was so excited when I told him (which again shows the passion he has for his work) I am now a mom to a beautiful boy thanks to Balance Acupuncture. Theyll be seeing me again in about a year :)

I didnt enjoy my session today. The acupuncturist did not help me and I feel like I got charged just to feel uncomfortable. She talked to me about her kids being difficult and how they cuss and how stressed she is- as she put needles in my back, it was not relaxing at all. I wasnt sure how to ask her to not talk about this? The experience wasnt meditative or relaxing like how I thought acupuncture was supposed to be. She also didnt tell me how long Id be left alone in the room, so when she left I just stared at the wall wondering how long Id be there. 5 minutes? An hour? Being 37 weeks pregnant I felt very uncared for. My shirt also moved while she was gone making one of the needles really hurt me. I left feeling stressed and sad.

Steve is AMAZING. I highly recommend him!!! My biggest advice is to keep going as it gets better and better each time.

This man is a miracle worker. On my 1st session I left there absolutely stress free . And my 2nd session today 4/3/21 and it was even better than the 1st .

So I have been struggling with migraines for years and went to treat them. I was going for about a month and a have. Migraines didnt really go away but I was struggling with infertility and pcos. Little did I know that 4 months later I found out I was pregnant. Now I have beautiful baby girl. Forever grateful

At the beginning of this year a good friend suggested I try accupunture specifically with Steve because of many stomach issues, endometriosis pain, pcos and infertility. Basically I felt my body was falling apart! I had random pains and doctors couldn’t explain them. I had a resection surgery for diverticulitis and endometriosis just a few months after that but my pains weren’t resolving. I wanted to have a baby and with everything going on I couldn’t even think it was possible. Well 3 sessions with Steve and my body was feeling better, my anxiety was under control and my pains were getting better. I started seeing him in February and March then covid hit had just a few sessions of accupunture and 1 of cupping and by the end of May I found out I was pregnant!! 13 years of trying and many failed infertility treatments not to mention miscarriages. I am currently 34 weeks along and have kept getting accupunture, pregnancy is going great and even with everything that comes with a high risk pregnancy as mine is, my baby is healthy and growing. I’m so excited and I definitely recommend him to everyone who is struggling with infertility and any issues you can’t resolve with medicine. My mom and sister both have found many benefits as well. April 2019:I initially visited Steve just about 4 months ago when I was in severe pain from endometriosis and was also in a very fragile mental state. I have continued to visit him since then. You can tell he absolutely loves what he does and is very caring and compassionate.Acupuncture was the first step in healing myself and taking control of my life.Ive also been seeing a Reiki in combination to continually seeing Steve and guys, my life has drastically improved! I absolutely love myself and am so happy with life.I love, embrace and accept myself as I am.Below is a picture of my endometriosis flare up. Its quite painful beyond what words can describe. Ive also included a picture without an Endo flare up.I have not had an Endo flare up in 2 months! 🙏🙌🙌 Its amazing what our bodies can do to heal itself when you nurture it.*Update February 27, 2020*I am super happy to announce that I am PREGNANT! I continued to see Steve throughout last year for endometriosis care. I have never left the office feeling disappointed.Although acupuncture is a new discovery for me, I have done a series of massages, physical therapy, and treatments from an early age. Just fantastic! Im so glad I found Stephen at Balance Houston. Ive been to some other acupuncturists place in town, and they were all overpriced, and I never felt any relief. I wanted to give acupuncture another try, because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant, and we have heard its great for fertility. Always leave feeling better than when I came, no matter what I am being treated for. I have been to a few acupuncturists, and Balance Houston is by far the best. The practitioner uses his expertise in knowing where your body needs the most attention but also listens to you. Not many medical professionals work with patients, but rather choose to do their own thing. The result is that you receive truly balanced care and the most optimum healing for your nody. The office is always clean. I never have issues getting any appointment. The front desk helper is always friendly. I will not go anywhere else.

Steve is a great acupuncturist! I have noticed such great/lasting results after my sessions at Balance Houston. The treatments keep my symptoms of Lyme disease at bay and I am feeling better than I have in years. Would definitely recommend his services!

I love Steve’s energy; I can sense that he loves what he does, which is essentially helping unlock our body’s natural healing capabilities. I feel fortunate to have found his practice, especially because I rarely experience allergies since I started coming here... I was taking medicine and using nasal spray pretty much every day; now—besides some vitamins/supplements—I have been able to stop taking prescription and most over the counter medicine. I feel better and am sleeping better. I don’t know how acupuncture works, but I’m a believer, and I’m going to keep coming back.

I have been coming to Balance Houston for almost two months now, and I must say it has been the difference maker in my over all health. I’m a contortionist/acrobat. I’ve been coming to Steve for about two months, and I’ve already seen amazing results in my back and sciatic nerve! More than once we think that just go out and start running just because we can is enough. Big mistake! We must do strength, lots of it! Rest, and like in my case after an injury made some changes including becoming a barefoot runner which made me to re learn on how to run! So, after 2 years of different and wonderful experiences on my naked feet and running a full marathon I injured my posterior tibial tendon and yes, even when I improved with all the rehab exercises etc.. lifting blah blah I decided that it was time to go back and be treated by Steven. Once again his magic touch made the difference. His treatment has put me back on my running when I thought I would not be able to do it as much as I used to. My ankle was too stiff and after 5 months still inflamed but after one treatment I felt a huge difference on my range of motion. After the second I was running again and after the third wow! This horrible injury is practically gone! I cannot thank him enough for all the time he dedicate to us his patients and how much he cares to heal us and not just give us 15 min treatments that more than once hurt more than heals. In my case as a very active person I just know that seeing him is part of my training period!

I highly recommend this place for those who love honesty. Doctor Steve is a great man, I was having a hard time with insomnia and hadn’t slept but 3 hours a day and was highly stressed. I came to his office and he took the time to get to know me on a personal level to give me advice on how to handle my stress. I told him I get tension on my left side of my head and he focused on treating it. The acupuncture was amazing coming from someone who isn’t a fan of needles, I felt a HUGE difference after that visit. He said that it wouldn’t work immediately but i definitely felt different. Steve is my hero. I came to him when I was hoping to get pregnant, wanting to be proactive about getting my body in shape after some uterine weakness and poor blood circulation in a previous pregnancy. So in a sense fertility, but also just body prep. His treatments have helped me significantly with anxiety, blood circulation (no more cold hands!), and fertility. Im currently 7.5 months into a pregnancy with a healthy baby boy. I believe I had seen Steve less than 2 months prior to getting pregnant--so even though getting my body ready was the main intention, there were definitely fertility benefits to the treatment.I had done acupuncture previously at two other places, both of which tried to defraud my insurance, and were a major pain to get an appointment with. Steves prices are the most reasonable Ive seen in the area, and not involving insurance has been really nice. Hes always responsive--and his care is 100x as good as the other providers I went to. I started coming to Steve about two months ago and I always have great results after my sessions with him. Im a performer and very physically active which causes quite a bit of soreness. Stephen Stein knows his business. He seems intuitive while he is providing treatment. His technique is excellent, mostly painless, as he applies needles to the points that need to be addressed at each appointment. He knows so much about anatomy, as well as Traditional Chinese medicine, and he is constantly enriching his knowledge in workshops. Stephen volunteers a great deal of his time to veterans and seniors while maintaining a very flexible schedule to meed the needs of his paid clients. My family and friends who have sought treatment from Stephen have come away feeling that he has helped/is helping them. My entire state of well-being and health have improved in the more than one year that he has been treating me.

I cannot recommend Stephen and Balance Houston enough! I had had acupuncture earlier in my pregnancy at another clinic, but on my doulas recommendation went to see Stephen in the later weeks when I could not get in at the other clinic due to odd hours and it was the best decision ever! He was so kind and squeezed me in and it was a different experience. It was relaxing and calm and I left feeling amazing even after the first visit. He listened and was kind and was flexible and I never felt rushed.I also fully believe that he is the reason I was able to avoid an induction and possible csection as I approached 41w because after he worked some induction points, I went into labor on my own later that night and had a wonderful birth. I will continue to see Stephen for any acupuncture in the future and recommend Balance Houston to anyone who asks!

I had tried acupuncture before, and had 0 results. A good friend convinced me to go see Stephen.....and I am thrilled i did! He is so very good at what he does and I will continue seeing him to deal with my back issues, and once that is in a good place, we will work on the next issue.

I am 72 years old. I have chronic severe pain in my shoulder that would not allow me to sleep. Traditional methods of treatment were ineffective. I was skeptical that acupuncture was going to be any different. When Stephen used a needle on my leg, I was sure that it was a scam because the pain was in my shoulder. Within seconds, Stephen made a believer out of me. It did not remove the pain entirely, yet there was an immediate lessening of the severity of the pain in my shoulder!! He continued treatment, each insertion of a needle providing varying sensation. At the end of the session, I could move my shoulder with no pain. Stephen assured me that it was not a quick fix and may require subsequent visits. I immediately made another appointment. I am writing this review 4 hours after treatment and feel twinges in my shoulder, but very manageable and I was told to possibly expect this. I would urge other skeptics to at least keep an open mind to treatment. The average person wants instant gratification and this is the closest I have found to that. My initial experience was everything I hoped for and more. Thank you, Stephen!!!!

I’ve been going to Stephen before and during my pregnancy. Accupuncture has helped a ton with any side effects I have had and I know it will also help make the actual birth easier on my body. I have been working with acupuncturists for about one year due to herniated discs in my cervical spine. Stephens cupping and needling treatments have been a blessing! Not only does he work on the injured area, but he improves digestion, sleep, and general health factors. If youre skeptical about acupuncture the one thing I tell people is that it is like hitting the reset button on your body. I started seeing Dr. Stein a couple of months ago to help with PMS. I am also in the process of planning a wedding, so my stress was sky high. I felt an immediate difference after my first session in my mood. I started seeing Steve at the end of my pregnancy, before I was induced to help prep for my induction. I had never had acupuncture and he explained everything and made me feel very comfortable with the process. I had my first visit with Doctor Stephen after developing pain in my knee due to physical exertion. I HATE NEEDLES, but he made me feel extremely comfortable. I actually did not notice when the needles were being set. He distracted me with positive and friendly conversation that truly helped me relax... I actually feel asleep while the needles worked their magic. Once the session was over, I was able to squat and jump without pain. He is a miracle worker. I had been experiencing brain fog and lack of energy for about 3 months straight! It was a nightmare and I thought these symptoms would never go away. It was terrifying and I had exhausted all of my options. Acupuncture was my last resort. After my first visit, i saw immediate changes. That night, I had the best sleep I had had all year, and the brain fog was gone the next morning! I was so surprised, I actually cried. Has been effective in treating my chronic nasal congestion of 29 years with acupuncture and Chinese herbal supplements. He has also helped me to feel balanced and be well by being in-tuned to my issues through a series of questions and applying acupuncture points. I was referred to Steve by a friend; I have previously had a scar on my upper back from a dermatologist. It is something that always bothers me every summer when I wear tank tops and swim gear. I have been visiting with Steve for a little over a month now and the scar is vanishing from my back. We have to turn the light on now for Steve to be able to see where it was when I have my visit. I have been going to Steve at Balance Houston for 4 months. While I know he is so well known for female reproductive issues; I also had heard that he can help with weight loss. I came to Stephen Stein by recommendation of my midwife for SI joint pain. Being 28 weeks at the time, there wasn’t much I could do or take that helped with the pain. The pain was excruciating. I was sleeping 2 hours per night/day, not consecutive. Waking up every 15 mins or so to stand up and stretch until I could sit again for another few minutes. Standing was the only comfortable position. Stephen was very sympathetic and understanding and enthusiastic about helping to the get the pain down enough to sleep. Being pregnant there’s only about one/two positions you can be in to get acupuncture done, so the first session was quite painful, only in position bc every position at that point was painful. The pain had nothing to do with what Stephen did. At the end he did cupping and it was very pleasant and the first time I felt any resemblance of relief. Two days later I came back, that session was more comfortable to lay down and I felt a ton of relief that session from acupuncture and cupping. Two days later I came back, felt entirely comfortable laying down, no pain during the session that included acupuncture and cupping. Each session felt better and better and I am officially pain free! I highly recommendStephen! Such a friendly, sweet man that knows what he’s doing!!

Had pretty debilitating back pain that was treated at hospital with bunch of pain killers and muscle relaxers. Couldnt continue to do that.Came to Stephen at Balance and after just two treatments, back was as good as new. Cannot recommend enough.

I first went to Stephen Stein for my back pain and stress in October of last year. He helped me so much that I asked him if he could treat my Mother, who is 86 years old with advanced dementia. He has a great bedside manner and is calm and patient, so I knew he would be gentle and not scare my Mother. My Mother stopped walking, experienced pain in her left knee from arthritis and was developing pressure wounds. I discussed it with my Moms doctor and she agreed to try acupuncture.My Mother was placed on hospice because she developed a pressure wound on her heel and began to develop similar wounds in other areas. The acupuncture treatments she gets from Steve have helped heal her pressure wounds. Her skin looks so much better and it has improved her mood and alertness tremendously. After his treatments, Mother is more talkative and interactive. I highly recommend Stephen Stein, and cannot thank him enough for the helping keep my mother pain free and comfortable during the final stages of her dementia.
