J. Steven Mathews is an experienced and competent doctor. The reception and scheduling staff could more friendly and precise. The procedure, nursing and anesthetist staff were excellent.

The people in the back were great! Very accommodating and helpful. The receptionist was rude. I had a cracked rib and in a lot of pain. She didn’t give me all the paperwork to fill out and called me back up. My husband tried to take it to me. She totally ignored him and called my name again. He had to come help me up so I could go sign them instead of him handing them to me. The receptionist is the first impression people get of your office. Possibly retraining is in order.

The Staff was very knowledgeable and caring, facilities were clean and well kept. Dr Mathews explained the procedure results in a non-technical and easy to understand way. He was encouraging and behaved in a supportive manner, making the colonoscopy almost enjoyable.I left with the impression it was time well spent.

It was refreshing how well I was treated by the nurses, PAs, and doctor. They made me feel like I was getting special attention although I know they do this procedure all day long. It is a very embarrassing procedure and they made it painless and easy. I would highly recommend Dr. Mathews and his staff for anyone who needs to get a colonoscopy. Even the prep was a little easier than 10 years ago!

My mother in law had her routine screening colonoscopy today at Dr Matthew’s office. From the moment of first contact the staff was kind, welcoming, and helpful. She was able to pick up her paperwork prior to her appointment date to cut down on waiting time day-of. The clinic called numerous times in the couple of weeks before her procedure to check in on her and to make sure she did not have additional questions or concerns. On her appointment date, wait time was extremely short and staff all very pleasant. Dr Matthews was efficient and personable. After the procedure, he went over the results and findings with us without be rushed or passive. Highly recommend Dr Matthews!

Incredibly impressed with both the personal and clinical care received by Dr Matthews and his team! From the initial set up of the appointment and paperwork, several phone calls prior to thr appointmentdate to check on me and also to make sure I understood the prep steps, to the short wait time day of. After the procedure, the staff made sure I was comfortable and Dr Matthews came to bedside to explain the procedure and findings. I was very impressed by his personal attention to me as a patient. Highly recommend him and his crew!

Dr. Matthews and his crew are outstanding in every respect. Every aspect of the procedure was explained to me so I was at ease with all that was to happen. When in recovery their swift actions in dealing with an unforeseen situation speak to their professionalism as well as their situational awareness. To say that I am impressed would be an understatement.

Dr. Mathews and his staff are the best! I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. From the moment I first walked in until the moment I was discharged I felt safe, comfortable, and valued. The real gem was Robbie. If anyone goes above and beyond, its her.

I am very pleased with my visit for an upper endoscopy. It was a good experience and I thought my nurse did a great job preparing me and with her follow up.

Nurses were wonderful. Doctors were very professional and seemed to care about my needs. I will use again in 5 years, God willing.

Dr Mathews took the time to explain everything in great detail with me. Answered every question I had.

Absolutely horrible. They billing office has no clue and if you even see him rather than his NP, they are both uncaring and just don’t want to be bothered.

Friendly, polite staff. Dr. Mathews came out and explained what he found during the procedure in a very understandable way. Ill recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

Sooner or later you’ll have a colonoscopy, which I now understand why it’s very important. And when you do then go to Arkansas Gastroenterology & Endoscopy in Hot Springs. This was a great experience. My first colonoscopy and I was a little nervous but the staff made me feel very calm. They were wonderful.

This was my third colonoscopy and the first with Dr. Matthew. From the initial call to set up my appointment the staff was warm, friendly and helpful. On the day of the examination the waiting room was clean and sanitized due to the Covid guidelines. I waited only a few minutes and was greeted by a friendly nurse who guided me through the prep process. The exam it self seemed like minutes but the anesthesia made me feel like I just had the best 4 hour nap even though it was less than an hour.I will definitely use and recommend Dr Matthew for all my future GI needs.

I have had three colonoscopies over the years by Dr. Matthews, I have always been treated with respect, the staff has been kind and efficient and Dr. Matthews has been very kind and professional.

Didnt see doctor at office, didnt see doctor before procedure, didnt see doctor after procedure because of a reaction to the Propofol I was given. Dont need a doctor to be my friend, but I do expect them to talk to me.

My scope came back normal, but I will seek advice from someone else.The issue I had was the arrogance this doctor posses. His attitude in explaining things just didn’t set well with me.Perhaps he will be the best doctor you’ve ever had, but his bed side manners were ridiculous. (My opinion!)

This office is a joke. My wife is very sick and they will not listen to her. They have done tests but cant find out why she is sick. They will not answer her questions and the degrade her for not having a job because she is bedridden.

Not a good place. They are rude. They do not listen to the patient, rush though the visits, no answer questions and quick to degrade you I am on Medicaid. I need a second opinion. I am not from here and i need to find out what is wrong and find the correct treatment so i can have a job and a life. Where can i goo see real doctors who care? The pain is really bad.

HORRIBLE This was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor’s office.First visit we saw the doctor about 5 minutes, were told we needed a surgery and that we had to pay the rest of our deductible to have it. After having the surgery we returned to the Nurse Practitioner giving us the results and joking we really didn’t even need the test, that everything was healthy. The following month we received a bill for more than the deductible we paid so we called and spoke with the billing lady who told us to wait that they were still waiting on insurance. The next month the same thing happened. This month we received a bill for over a hundred dollars month than the month before! We called to check on it and the same lady tells us we owe it and we need to pay. I called after being blindsided with this for her to tell me she is being nice offering a payment plan and she could just send me to collections! I then called my insurance and let them explain why and how I owed this money. My husband called to try and schedule a time to speak with the office manager, doctor, and billing lady to explain if they would have explained in the beginning we would be paying over $700 dollars for this we would not have done it; he was yelled at by the office manager and told he doesn’t know what he is talking about and that his wife (who works some with insurance) must not be doing her job correctly because I didn’t know what I was talking about either.

Absolutely the most indifferent and hateful doctor ever. He was extremely rude. He was short with me when I asked questions. Matter of fact he didnt answer them. The diagnosis was wrong. I ended up having to see a surgeon to find out what he should have seen in the endoscopy. He accused me of lying when he asked if I had prior surgery in my pyloric region. I never have. He couldnt even spot the hiatal hernia I had. My surgeon saw it. This could end up in a very serious situation if not caught. NEVER go to him if you are serious about your gastric or stomach problems. I will report him to the medical board.

On the day of my endoscopy (Jan. 17th), I was asked to pay over $600, which I did. Going forward, I received my insurance company statement which showed I was owed a refund of over $300. This was about 3 weeks ago and I have now called 8 times, have been put on hold, told I would be called back and wasnt, and was treated rudely several times by hostile employees. Ive contacted my insurance company and was told something doesnt sound right. So what does it take to get back what Im owed?

This is the worst office I have been to. Not only was the staff rude we waited for 2 1/2 hours. Just a horrible experience all around.
