Not a good experience. He got mad because I would not drive 3 days a week to his therapist in Birmingham. Wrote wrong kind of therapy. Had to call 9 times to get help. Very disappointed. Will not use again.

Did not correct my issue and was very stubborn about listening to what I was saying about it. After his first surgery I still had same pain in my left hand. I explained that I felt it was Golf related. I felt I had a broken hamate bone.. he was adamant about blowing me off. After being released from him, I went to Andrew’s Orthopedic and they confirmed exactly what I thought. My “Hook of the Hamate” was fractured. Now I’m having surgery to fix what was my issue. What a complete waste of my time he was!

I was referred to Dr. Bonatz for carpal tunnel syndrome. His staff was fantastic. They were able to get me an appointment right away. Dr. Bonatz took his time to make sure every question I had was answered. Their surgery coordinator was able to work me into their surgery schedule within the following week. After the surgery, I was back to work within 3 days, typing on a keyboard all day. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I am currently scheduling my surgery with my other hand. Definitely check them out!

I was referred to Dr. Bonatz by my orthopedic surgeon. She had told me that he was one of the best hand surgeons around. I will say that received great care and the surgery went well. Very pleased with the overall experience. He is the best.

Dr. Bonantz is rude, does not listen, and does not deal with the correct problems. I went to him with a hand problem and he informed me I am an overweight diabetic, which I already knew. He sent his nurse in with papers for bariatric surgery across the hall. I have a cyst in my hand I need removed. Im well aware of my weight problems. I have to buy my clothes. No thank you, you rude, self righteous know it all. He also told me I would die without the covid vaccine, and hes told multiple other people this. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. for anytbing

Dr. Bonatz and his staff are amazing! He is brilliant and he has surrounded himself with an amazing knowledgeable and caring team. Their attentiveness and follow up is amazing and this comes from a patient with an emergency on a Friday that continued over the weekend into the following week. They did not miss a beat ensuring I have a healthy full functioning hand. Thank you Thank you!

Dr. Bonatz has to be one of the worst doctors I’ve ever seen. My first visit with him was Nov 6 fracture ring finger sprained middle finger. He had me to start Occupational Therapy immediately. My return visit with Dec 8. My range of motion had improved however the strengthening had not even begun. All of my OT were saying the same thing my hand needed further OT because of my job. On Dec 8 2020 Dr. Bonazt entered the room and began talking with the door of the room wide open. I asked if he could close the door while we discussed my injury. His response no because of COVID-19 a violation of my patients rights mind you Dr. Bonazt was not wearing a mask nor gloves so much for concerns. Also, while waiting on him the door was closed the entire time and anyone else that entered closed the door behind them. He ask me what my job title was twice which I’m sure was on my report. He indicated that the fracture was healing pretty good I didn’t need surgery and therefore there was nothing else he could do. I question him because I must be 100% my strength in my hand indicated that I could hold up to13lbs briefly. I asked him for copies of the report he denied me of that also, stating that workman’s comp would have to request it. Forgetting when I visit him the first time he did. His sarcastic remarks and tone was very belittling. To add insult to injury as he was walking out he says if you break anything else come see me. Unbelievable and Rude he obviously doesn’t care because there’s no repercussions behind his actions.

Dr. Bonanza and assistants were pleasant, explained procedures, and answered my questions fully.

Office staff was very friendly and helpful . Dr Bonatz was on spot and Office was quick to setup the additional testing to verify my issues so that Dr Bonatz could resolve them. I learned about him from a friend w similar probs and she had excellent results. From everything so far, I’m sure I will have the same excellent results.

Dr Bonatz has successfully removed tumors from my forearm and scoped my elbow. I am like new. Top notch is Dr Bonatz!

Excellent surgeon and has operated on both wrists and more recently my right hand. He thoroughly explains the diagnosis and the course of action to repair the problem. In case of an emergency like with my hand he saw me right away and planned surgery two days later. My Southlake physical therapist, Cathy, helped me rehab after all 3 surgeries and she is fantastic

Ive been a patient of Dr. Bonatz since 2008. He has taken excellent care of my orthopedic issues. As a professional pianist, it was important to be confident the surgeon was able to understand what was needed so I could continue to play. Ive recommended him to other members of my family and friends. Most travel specifically to the Bhm metro area because of his excellent skills.

Dr. Bonatz is professional, personable, and also quick, which I appreciate. He makes sure I understand what he has explained before leaving the room. Hes done one surgery on my hand and is about to do another. I have no hesitations.

He’s a sadistic man. Don’t go to him! He hurts you & he allows you to be in excruciating pain after surgery. There are GREAT hand surgeons in Birmingham who have MANNERS and do not enjoy seeing their patients in pain. One is Dr. Smith. He’s in the same office.

Dr. Bonatz is so straightforward but also very thorough. My son had a broken thumb that most times would require surgery, Dr. Bonatz simply had my son put in a cast and said, Three weeks! In exactly three weeks his thumb healed properly and hes back doing what he loves... Playing BASKETBALL! The supporting staff(front desk, nurses, pct, etc) were phenomenal!

The doctor has a sense of humor and a strong personality. He has a plethora of knowledge. I like that. I’d trust him with my children any time!

Very pleased with my association with this clinic and Dr. Bonatz. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful, especially the front desk. Dr. Bonatz is warm, kind and careful, double checking the info received from xrays, etc. Should you be in need of this type medical assistance, I highly recommend this clinic.

I dont have the knowledge to evaluate my visit based on the medical expertise of the people I saw, but I can talk about the efficiency of the office personnel, the personal respect from everyone I saw (both for patients and for each other), and the overall positive atmosphere there. Top notch. Dr. Bonatz took a lot of time to examine my inury, and he followed up by taking me out of the examination room to show me details of my x-rays and diagrams of the injury. That was something I liked very much.

Absolutely the best possible care for any medical problems related to the hand and wrist.

First I can not say enough good things about the staff, they were extremely nice and compassionate. But Dr Ekkhard Bonatz is not, he has zero ethics. He told me he would preform surgery on my broken wrist but and I quote it would not work anyway, DO NOT LET THIS MAN TREAT YOU!I ask if I could see my break on an x-ray and he brought in a plastic arm, he patted my arm and thanked me because he could pay off his daughters college tuition with my injury. He acted like a pediatrician talking to a child. He refused pain treatment and said he would drink if it were him, again DO NOT LET THIS MAN TREAT YOU!

I would not send my worst enemy to this man. He lied about the procedure, he lied about the treatment and was upset and told us that if we were to seek a second opinion he would no longer treat. He gave wrong meds when he had pathology report right in front of him . Not a compassionate person and neither is his assistant. Would NOT recommend.

Dr. Bonatz and staff are the most knowledgeable, caring team in Alabama. Dr. Bonatz took the time to answer all my questions during the process of rebuilding my hand. I never felt rushed by him.His staff were the same way, taking time to discuss the questions you forgot to ask Dr. Bonatz. They are very knowledgeable and very caring.His P.T. staff are the and same way, they know their stuff, and are always encouraging you to do your exercises at home. If you do what they say, you will improve your hand. (They are the best)Lastly, the front desk and waiting room, in a word, excellent.

Dr Bonatz is least compassionate Dr I have ever had the misfortune to meet! He has no ethics whatsoever. He told my husband he would do surgery on his hand but it probably wouldnt work. He mentioned he needed the money for his daughter s college. He also said he would do the second surgery, he mentioned he wanted to go Spain. He also thanked my husband for fracturing his wrist. If you have hurt yourself and need treatment I wouldnt not recommend Dr. Bonatz. I would not take my dog to him. The staff however were very helpful and compassionate.

Hands down one of the best doctors visits ever! Dr. Bonatz put me at ease with his knowledge, straight forward approached with a great dose of humor. His staff was friendly, quick and efficient and I feel like I received the best healthcare. I highly recommend Dr. Bonatz at Southlake Orthopedics

I am due to have surgery with Dr. Bonatz in the next couple of weeks. So I cannot speak of that experience yet. I can however speak of his Staff which has been wonderful, and informative, as has Dr. Bonatz. I would have given 5 stars except for the fact both times I have been to see him, once at Grandview, the other at the Southlake office, both times I had to wait 20 to 30 minutes past my appointment time. I realize they get busy, however my time is important as well My suggestion would be to find a way to improve upon that. It’s a shame to have an appointment time of 1:15pm and not leave until 3:00.

We had a really good experience with Dr Bonatz. We were very pleased with the care we recieved. My 10 yr old broke her pinky finger and it went into her growth plate. He was very good with her and making the right decision for her care. She was in a custom splint made for just her size for 3 weeks. We went back and he was so nice. Said she was healing nicely. She really liked him alot and would recommend anyone else with smaller children to see him. Staff was really awesome as well. We had not longer than a five min wait time each time we went.

Dr. Bonatz and staff gave me excellent care before and after surgery. I couldnt have ask for better treatment.

I am so greatful to have met Dr. Bonatz and the staff of Southland orthopedic. For over 10+ years of chronic pain I spent years searching for help and consulting with my primay physican, rheumatologist, neurologist, osteoarthritis, pain management, and any other specialist. Unfortunately, they all gave up on me and past me on to the next specialist. Finally, I was referred to, I was Dr. Bonatz. The frist cosultation, he knew what was wrong, schedule some tests and did not give up on me until he solved the problem. For the first time in years, I can sleep at night with out pain, go outside during the winter with out pain. Thank you so much!!!
