This clinic is exceptional. Their patient interaction goes above and beyond anything Ive ever seen, as they genuinely care about the quality of life for the patient-- its evident in the ways they work to get to the root of the problem, rather than just treating symptoms and offering temporary solutions to generate revenue. The doctors here have impeccable bedside manner, making the patients feel comfortable and at ease the entire time. In addition to the physicians, the entire staff is super friendly and efficient. I cannot recommend Cahaba Pain and Spine Care enough... If I could give them ten stars, I would.

Pain management is a difficult practice. Providers such as Cahaba Pain strives to provide as much relief as possible while at the same time fighting the battle of potential addiction - without making patients feel on the defensive while taking potentially habit forming and addictive medications. Both doctors Thoma and Martin earned my respect as did the nurse practitioners - Vicki and Ashley were both personable and professional. I was glad to save money by seeing these PAs for refill checkups rather than seeing on of the doctors.I shaved a star for two reasons: 1. Long wait times; and, 2. Waiting room chairs not friendly to those with spinal pain. Kudos to the quick, accurate responses by those who answer online portal messages. I found the Portal the most effective way to communicate. Two parking areas - I found the upper parking to be quicker and easier.

One of the worst experiences of my life. My first appointment with Dr Thoma and a training NP, I was treated like an incompetent child and they gave me medication for addiction (I didn’t know what it was at the time). When I called and told them it doesn’t help with the pain, they told me “there is nothing else we can do for you”. Within a year or two and after searching for answers to why I am in pain, I found out I have rheumatoid arthritis. RA has been the root of all my pain. This experience and searching for an answers has caused issues getting any relief from this crippling disease.

Very good bed side manner. Any time that I have called they did everything they could help me. The procedure we discussed was done in a timely manner. Very nice and good receptionist and when ever I have called they answered the phone without putting me on hold. I would recommend for anybody having serious pain and spine issues.

I have been going to Cahaba pain for several years now. Staff has always been great. Dr Martin and Dr Thoma continued to try different procedures until they found the right procedure that helped resolve my back and neck pain. I usually see the Nurse practitioner and she is very caring. Would recommend them to any person seeking pain management.

This is my first time here at Cahaba Pain and Spine Care. The receptionist made me very comfortable in the beginning and then the nurse was very nice and concerned with my needs. I am happy with this place.

My patient was referred here by her primary doctor almost a year ago to help relieve her back pain. We have only seen the Dr. one time, and that was during our first visit! The Nurse Practitioner is nice, but both me and my patient feel like she is just part of a assembly line. The reason we say that is because: Her appointment is NEVER on time its ALWAYS way behind schedule. And by the time we finally see the Nurse Practitioner she ONLY stays in the room for LESS than 3 minutes each time! Both me and my patient feel like they dont take much time to listen to their patients concerns, etc. Before they are moving on to their next patient, and we are being rushed out the door. I get that pain management is a pretty demanding field, but it shouldnt always be about the money!! Patients should always come first! My patient was recently released from the hospital due to a unrelated reason. However her back pain become unbearable due to several test, etc. That was performed during her hospital stay. Pain level was a 9/10. I tried calling the Nurse Practitioner to see if there was anything that they could do or suggest to make my patients pain more bearable. I told numerous staff members that we were using a heating pad, lidocaine cream, and her pain medicine. But nothing was helping to ease the pain. They never switched up her medicine, etc. They simply suggested we keep doing what we were already doing. The staff didnt seem to care about finding a solution to help relieve the unbearable pain. Whats the point of going to pain management..If they will not help their patients when they need them the most! Im currently trying to get her primary doctor to refer us to another pain clinic. Because this clinic does not seem to care about their patients well being.

I was referred to CPSC by the Rheumatologist who was new to that particular practice at the time. I had never been under Pain Management before and didnt no what to expect. I have been very pleased with the Medical Staff and Office Staff.

Cahaba Pain and Spine is a wonderful place to go to get help for Chronic Pain ! Dr. Martin is very knowable in so many areas if he can’t help you then nobody can . I love all his staff from receptionist , nurses and schedulers. Dr. Martin will do what it takes to get your pain under control from trigger point injections , epidural blocks and radio frequency burning the nerves. I appreciate the entire staff and I tell everyone I know to get an app. Bc they will help you feel better

Terrible experience! Cindi (the only person who can apparently handle new patients) is rude and is great at telling you what she won’t do, but not what she can offer to help you. Seems like the physician should be handling the practice of medicine. Not everyone is a drug addict or uneducated as she must think everyone who calls there is. Also, this office does not follow HIPPA privacy guidelines. If you disagree with Cindi’s method she then calls your primary doctor to gossip about you against HIPPA regulations because you don’t take her word for it. As an educated professional I don’t think it’s unreasonable to speak to the actual physician or at least a nurse. I will be filing a formal complaint with the medical board.

I have been taking my 88 year old mother to Cahaba Pain and Spine for multiple years now. She has seen both Dr.s Thoma and Martin, who are not only excellent, caring doctors, but simply concerned and caring human beings. They take their time to speak with you as a patient and ensure that their care is the best that they can provide. Having taken my mother to previous pain management clinics and having had not just bad, but very bad experiences, Cahaba Pain and Spine was nothing short of being perfect. I am a Veteran and I was referred to the Cahaba Pain Clinic by the VA due to a LONG wait time for the care I needed. My shoulder pain led me to believe I was going to need surgery, but the injection and care I received by Dr Thomas and his wonderful, efficient and caring staff was EXCEPTIONAL! I was pain free when I left and am still pain free 60 days later! Surely a life-changing event for me and I HIGHLY recommend them!

I have sought help for decades and from probably 10 different providers. This is the first shop of pain where the entire staff shows patients respect at all times over the phone and face to face. Dr. Thoma developed a plan of care, discussed the plan with me, listened to me, adjusted the plan and implemented the plan of care all during the first evaluation visit. I was seen by several different providers in this office over my subsequent appointments . Each and every one of them were familiar with the plan of care that Dr. Thoma and I had agreed upon. They have followed the plan to the the letter and made substantial progress during 3 or 4 visits. We have decreased my dependence on high doses of opiates by substituting and replacing them with supposed more safe topical medications. I had to follow their instructions to the letter and and I do have significant more relief than from plans that other providers have implemented in the past. For many years I have refused interventional treatment that was suggested if a procedure was recommended. Usually they were not on the table for my consideration. I have always been strictly against invasive procedures. But the care that I have received and that continues to be offered in a professional respectful manner has helped me to realize that intervention will likely be helpful in my case . Also for the first time in 5-8 years I have the desire to and feel healthy enough to return to work. I owe all of the thanks to Dr. Thoma and Cahaba Pain and Spine Care. This is a five star service with all five star people. It is not easy for them to provide such quality care in the manner that they do. This group of patients are constantly complaining, trying to get more for less and generally are just difficult to manage. I recommend Cahaba Pain and Spine Care to anyone that I can. Thanks Dr. Thoma! You have wonderful people!

I have had four procedures performed by Dr. Thoma. The staff has always been friendly and courteous, and I leave with good results. Its great to be able to park at a facility where you just have to walk a few feet to the door. I never have to wait long to get scheduled for a procedure, and they are usually quick getting patients back to the OR. The doctor always explains everything he is about to do very thoroughly, and the nurses are very attentive. My only complaint is that they dont have coffee in the waiting area for people waiting to drive patients home.

This place has been a godsend for me! Finally a doctor who cares about my pain, who wants to see my quality of life improve. My first visit was amazing, the doctor spent over an hour with me and did a through exam of all my pain areas. He has been the only doctor who has recognized that I did have an allergic reaction to Botox. I cannot say anything bad about this place. You cannot go wrong visiting this office for pain care.

Recently, received a shot in my low back and the experience was relaxed(did not feel like they were rushing through multiple patients) and very professional. Dr. Martin and Natalie his PA are amazing. I’ve been with them for years. They genuinely care about my well-being and giving me the very best care they can. They listen and take action. Additionally, the support staff is friendly and professional, as well. It’s a great experience going there for care. When you’re in exhausting pain, there’s almost nothing as important as being well cared for by your pain management team. I’m very lucky.

DO NOT TRUST Cahaba Pain and Spine Care with your pain or spine! They dont even bother to call you to cancel your appointment. You drive an hour or more in pain only to find out that they canceled your appointment the day before (after you had already confirmed your appointment with them). They didnt bother to call the day before OR that entire morning, up until the appointment. (They open at 7:30 and the appointment was for 11:00!) The receptionists and Danny Meadows, the practice manager or administrator, try to think up every possible way it could have been YOUR FAULT. When you refute all of their excuses and attempts at blame throwing, they have to finally admit that it was THEIR FAULT. (Sorry.) However, in the event they didnt get YOUR phone call to cancel an appointment, then they have no problem charging YOU $100. Why would anyone trust these incompetents with pain or spine care? Do you want people who forget to make a simple phone call to be responsible for your anesthesia? If anything goes wrong, you know they are going to do their best to blame YOU, and accept no responsibility. BEWARE Cahaba Pain and Spine Care in Hoover, Alabama. BEWARE Danny Meadows who runs the place. The receptionist said it was a small operation and only two doctors own it. So if they kill you or a relative, your family will be suing a doctor, basically, and not a hospital (or some larger organization, corporation, conglomerate, etc.). That would be cold comfort, which is what Cahaba Pain and Spire Care seems to specialize in. AVOID AT ALL COST!

I had an appointment today with Dr.Martin and I went in thinking about the bad reviews left on his behalf. I have to say I have had the best experience yet since Ive moved to Birmingham in 2014. We came up with a game plan to help with my pain management and Its the best one Ive heard. Dr. Martin is very knowledgeable and personable and I definitely recommend him. The doctors at Cahaba Pain have been very kind, patient, thorough, and persistent in helping me through my back and leg problems. If they couldnt help me, they referred me to someone who could. This facility is not one bit genuinely concerned about the patient. They are unorganized, unprofessional and uncaring.Because of the changes in Alabama law a patient who has had an established relationship with one of the best doctors in Alabama for well over ten years is no longer able to receive appropriate and conservative pain management but now required to pawn the patient to a so called pain management facility like this one.The only thing the changes in Alabama law did was make it more difficult for the honest patient truly needing appropriate pain management and medication.One thing for sure, its making places like this a lot of money.Update June 2018Dont walk, run from this place. Your first appointment with Dr. Thoma will make you feel important. He will examine and assess your situation and you walk away feeling like you made a good decision coming here. After your first appointment you are then assigned a nurse practitioner. As a general rule I prefer seeing a nurse practioner but not here. Since my first appointment I have not set eyes on Dr. Thoma.Allow me to summarize. This place does not give a rip about you. Why would they want you to be pain free without a need for medication? Because they will no longer make money! If you go several times just observe that almost each time you go there is a change in their support staff. That should tell you something. A couple of times my prescription was written by a doctor that has never set eyes on me. On another occasion my prescription was dated the same as the prior month which proves they simply print from a computer each month. This mistake would have allowed someone seeing them for addiction issues to have obtained a double supply of medication in one month which easily could have caused an overdose.Take my word, there are excellent pain management facilities in the Birmingham area. This is NOT one of them.Do your homework in finding a pain management facility that will GENUINELY care and GENUINELY try to help you. Shouldnt the ultimate goal me to no longer have to see them? Not here. They will gladly keep taking your money month in month out, year in and year out. If you decide to give Cahaba Pain Management a try dont say you were not warned.

Dr. Martin has always shown concern and done as he could to help me. The staff is warm not only to you but your love ones who might be waiting for you in the waiting room while you have procedure. Ive followed him to several place until he found the one he wanted to open as his home. Everything is organized and flows great.

In the beginning of this practice of this pain management , I was very pleased. After a year or so I couldn’t get procedures scheduled very quick. I know have to wake up to a month to be seen. By thenI have worked through the pain. Over all I like both doctors.

I wasn’t very appreciative of being sent to a pain management doctor because my chronic pain was not something that I caused to happen to me but Natalie Chism NP has been a great listener and honestly wants what is best for her patients. I’m thankful for her and her encouragement, no matter how difficult I may have seemed at the beginning of this journey!!

Do NOT come here. I went to only one appointment as a new patient and have never came back. A sweet potato has more knowledge, compassion, and common sense than Dr. Martin. I have been to most all the pain management offices in Birmingham in the past 8 years. I have been coming to Cahaba Pain and Spine for over a year. Im in the office at least once a month. Its a nice, clean environment. I dont mind bringing my toddler with me. Other offices Ive been to are crowded and wreaks of smoke. I was Dr. Martins patient when he was with Alabama Pain Physicians. I was extremely excited when I found out he opened his own practice with another doctor from APP. I started going not too long after they opened. This has been the best pain management office in the Birmingham area where Ive been a patient. At first, there were communication issues. I had problems with the staff returning my calls and confusion about my pain prescription refills but its been almost a year since Ive had those problems. I believe they hired a new office manager around May last year and since then things are much better. I even had some problems with insurance while my disability case was in appeals and they worked with me until those issues were worked out, which took months! Every one from the office manager to the physicians assistants helped me out during that time. I cannot thank them enough for that!! The only thing I am not a fan of is I wish the Dr would see me more often. When I first started coming, it was before any assistants were hired and Dr. Martin said he wanted to see his patients either every 3 or 6 months. Its been probably at least 9 months since hes seen me in clinic. At Alabama Pain Physicians, you only saw the Dr like at your initial appointment. I didnt care for that. I like the actual doctor to touch base every once in a while. He told me when I first started coming thats how he wanted to do things too. Unfortunately, its going the same way as at APP. It is certainly not anything that would cause me to leave. I love Natalie, Emily and Ashley. Theyre all awesome! Natalie came over from APP and was the one I was seeing while I was a patient there. I feel like Im visiting family when I get to see her! I have never ever had an issue with the staff. Everyone is caring and kind. They actually listen to me and if something isnt working, or if theres a problem Im having, they dont just ignore it. They will refer me somewhere or get to the bottom of the issue. I love this pain management office. Its so hard to find a good one! Ive been to other places where I felt ignored or judged. But not here! I highly recommend Cahaba Pain and Spine!

I love the fact that I have doctors and Nurse Practitioners that take very good care of me with the many ailments that I have. Im a chronic pain patient and I have nerve damage from my neck and L spine as well as severe osteoporosis. Last year I was really sick and no one would help me to find out what was wrong. This office sent me to make sure I didnt have cancer because no other doctor would. Turned out it was not Cancer, but Addisons Disease. These people are caring snd go the extra mile to help their patients. They truly care snd want what is best for you. Thank you all for helping me when I was in need and not treating me like I was nuts! I have so much respect for this staff. They have been there for me when others have not!

I was in constant pain and afraid of pain management. At my PCPs suggestion, I finally decided to come in to Cahaba Pain and Spine for a consultation. I was so relieved that Dr. Martin did a throughout exam, offered me options including procedures and/or safer medications. I will likely never be pain free but with their help, I have less pain and more normalcy. I am very impressed and highly recommend Cahaba Pain and Spine Care. The level of care, understanding, and professionalism with personalized care is second to none.

I love Dr. Martin and staff. My first visit Dr Martin gave me the best and most thorough medical exam I ever had.7/23/18..I had surgery and my orthopedic surgeon spoke with Dr. Toma about making sure I would have pain coverage after surgery. The CRNP changed me to Percocet that equaled the amount of another medication I was on. Nothing for the breakthrough pain. I feel they are not concerned about your pain. Very disappointed in the way I have been treated. Wrote letter to Dr Martin and nothing changed.

Wonderful Dr., Love Natalie CRNP, and office staff great. Timely appointments. Understanding. Do not have to stay all day at an appointment.

Drs. Thoma and Martin are really patient and empathetic to the needs of their patients. They listen, investigate the patients areas of pain, thoroughly inform the patient about procedures and medications prescribed. They truly care about their patients and their well being. The staff members which include the PAs, CNRAs, and auxiliary staff are always so helpful and courteous. I would recommend Cahaba Pain & Spine Care to anyone.

Dr. Thoma and his staff have been helping me manage lower back pain since August 2017. He has gone above and beyond to ensure I have received the best care. He even called me on a Sunday to check on me! I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Thank you Dr. Thoma!

I love the professionalism of Dr Thoma and Dr Martin. Whereas, in most of my experience since being on Workmens compensation, I have been treated as a number and not as an individual, I can honestly say that both of these Drs did not treat me that way. I understand that the system is broken because MANY individuals abuse it; however this isnt my situation. This is the very first Workmens Comp case that I have ever filed in my 40 plus years of working. Thank you sincerely Dr Thoma and Dr Martin!!! I appreciate ALL that you have done for me and continue to do!!!

Update, I feel like everyone there is working harder to make a difference in peoples lives now. There is clear effort and you can see it.Thank you for providing reliable relief for my pain. With that said, your front desk needs help in treating people with respect and a little more sincerity. Less like a client/patient, but more like a person.I am sick of the reception being ‘mean-spirited’, having problem with my pymt plan, making me feel like I am bothering them BY JUST showing up for my appointments.Reception had another patient’s insurance cards and drivers license cards outside of slide window which is clear HIPAA violation, because his name, address, even social security number was seen by at least three patients (including me saw the cards and told receptionist). When we told receptionist, she said she “knew” the cards were there.This is a great office for care, as far as Clinical side, front desk reception is horrible stress inducing experience.

They lied to me about the component of the drugs I was taking after I told them I did not want to be on drugs like that. Everytime I called I talked to a different person and never got to speak to Dr Martin so I was given multiple answers to the same question delaying my progress. When I showed concern about being on drugs I could get addicted to they said I was too mentally unstable to be treated by them then they referred me a doctor that only uses the drug I told Dr Martin from the get go I did not want to be on. For three weeks 4 people told me I was a candidate for an epidural and then told me today that being on meds is my solution. Every single person I talked to I had to boldly get onto them because they all interrupted me 10 times each conversation and repeated back what they they thought they heard and it was wrong. So I had to tell each of them to be quiet and to quit interrupting me. Because they did not listen the notes in my chart were wrong and they misquoted what I said because they were not listening. Then they made me come off opiates cold Turkey with no alternative knowing it would be weeks before I saw the other drug dealer knowing how much pain Im in. They did not have me taper off to prevent withdrawal symptoms so now I have chills, sweating, headache and Im in unbearable pain. This is exactly how the opioid crisis happened. I will never go to another pain clinic in my life. Going to ortho tomorrow.

The Drs and staff at Cahaba Pain Clinic provide advanced care for their patients in a very clean office setting. Everyone is very nice and caring, which means alot!The Drs are extremely professional in every aspect while very personable.They take the time needed to thoroughly give you the proper help or procedures.I give them an A+ rating.

This Place has made my life so much easier. Dr. Thoma and his staff are the most caring people I have had a pleasure to deal with.

Dr. Thoma is a wonderful physician who cares for his patients and takes time to listen to their issues. His staff is the best Ive seen at a pain clinic. I highly recommend this clinic above any in this state.

I have been going for over a year to them and only saw the the Doctor one time the rest of the visits I always see Natalie the nurse practitioner, my husband does not like her so he wants me to go somewhere else but can’t get appointment anywhere. My back hurts really bad and don’t know what to do now . Nothing they have done has helped.

Staff was pleasant and friendly. Dr. Martin listened and answered my questions. I’m pleased with my treatment plan and look forward to my future procedure.

Professional and courteous. From receptionist to tech as well as the Doctors, I have had nothing but positive experiences, and as a result my mobility has improved because my pain has been well managed.

This place is getting worse. Besides the long wait times for a prescription, the doc and NP are great. The front office staff act like they own the business. I have been a patient for over a year. I had to cancel my appt about 2 weeks ago because I was having labor pains.....I was told I would have a cancellation fee, uhm no Im having labor pains and Im pretty sure you dont want to deliver a baby in your office. Then I call back to make an appt today and am told the NEXT AVAILABLE is 2 weeks out. Really you have nothing between now and 2 weeks?

Great company and great doctors.Very busy place, but they get you in quickly and take very good care showing special attention to each patient.
