October is Breast Cancer awareness month. As per their website Susan G. Komen is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy . Called and they couldnt even direct me to a list of low cost/free mammograms available in the area for the month of October. They hadnt even attempted to put a list together. I called the Tenn chapter and asked if they had a list of this sort of thing for people seeking help. They did. When I called the Birmingham chapter, they were kind and offered to call and find something, but I feel as if this is something that should have been prepared beforehand (especially for those who end up brushing this sort of thing off, this could cost them their lives if they cant figure out where to go). I just thought I should put this out there so other people were aware they do not offer this sort of assistance in Birmingham. Call the Dept of health, or if you are covered by insurance it may be fully covered if it is found you need a mammogram once you have gone to a doctor.
