I love Dr. Goncalves. Super respectful and REALLY cares about his patients. I don’t favor the new office or staff but that’s life.

Dr Goncalves is the best. I have been seeing him for 15 years. I feel so safe in the advice he gives me and I will continue seeing him as long as he will see me. Love the new office. This was my second visit to it and it was great. Staff and parking was great also.

Make sure this doctor stays on track for what you are being seen for. I came in for a very specific condition, a non-diabetic endocrine problem, after being referred by another doctor. The only time he talked about that condition was the first and second visit. The following visits were testing me for other conditions or giving me samples to try and lose weight. On one of the visits, I was schedule to come in at 10am, and I expected to be back in a room by 10:30, perhaps be seen by the doctor by 11 am. I didnt get a room until 10:45, and only because another patient walked out on how long she had to wait. I wasnt seen by him until 12:30. I almost walked out and left but there are no refunds for co-pays, so yeah... The final straw was when the on site pathologist off ran my insurance for weight loss and not the endocrine problem I came in for. I have been trying to get this resolved since April but the 2 times I came in, I was either told to come back or just told let it turn into a bill and deal with it then.

Receptionist were very friendly. Dr. Goncalves was very attentive and personable. Answered my questions gave me his opinion, alleviated my anxieties. I would highly recommend him!

Dr Goncalves is a wonderful diagnostician. His attention to treatment and care are only outweighed by his kindness. I am so happy that my husband and I found him and continue to have the advantage of his vast expertise!

The new location makes parking so much easier. I was excited that there is an in house lab located in the office. I was in and out of the office within an hour.

Appreciated the fact of working quickly and not lot of lobby wait time. Everyone was courteous.

I went to this doctor a few years ago with a TSH that fluctuated from upper 40s to 400s. Anyone with thyroid disease knows what this means. He told me his poor male patient with TSH in 40s was crawling on is knees until he treated him. Dr. Goncalves refused to check my levels. He just wanted to give me, a female, antidepressants. I went to a different doctor for treatment of my hypothyroidism. My TSH levels were way off.

5-star rating despite delay to be seen. Receptionist and nurse were professional, efficient and courteous. Dr. Goncalves was thorough in his review and discussion of labwork and Freestlye Libre data. He listened to and responded well to my questions and comments. Gr. Goncalves is the best.

I have just had one appointment with Dr. Goncalves so far and I am hopeful for a change. Dr. Goncalves listened to me as well as asked questions to understand my concerns and situation. I know there is no magic solution and he did explain what he would be able to do and not do according to my health and issues. He does not give false hope but promises to do everything realistically possible. He showed care and concern as a person snd did not treat me like just a job or problem to fix but as a person that he wants to genuinely help. His office staff was also patient and kind and never showed frustration or impatience toward me or anyone waiting to be seen.

Dr Goncalves has been my Dr for over 10 years. I completely trust him and he is always thorough and takes his time with me.

I was called back very quickly no long wait time. The staff was very nice. I was very impressed with Dr. Gonclaves He spent nearly an hour with me discussing my medical history and my current symptoms. He was very thorough set-up labs & test immediately. It took 6-7 weeks initially to get an appointment but It was worth the wait. I’m so happy and relived to be in Dr. Gonclaves and his staffs care.

Dr. Goncalves is amazing. He spends time with you and he is so knowledgeable. He is kind and really cares about your health and well-being. I have gone to many Doctors through the years, before I realized how important it was for me to go to a specialist. He looks at the macro and micro of your individual situation to address the whole issue, not just the symptoms. He wants you live better. Dr. Gonclaves has exceeded my expectations and I tell anyone who has or believes they have thyroid issues to go to him.

I really like the dr. But the location is difficult to exit. They are overbooked often when I’m there. The lab there needs earlier hours.

Dr Goncalves seems to be particularly attentive to patient issue. Even to the point in my case of asking reference of doctors studied in the chronic disease I battle. Great follow up diect to patient through the portal.

Hands down the most thorough doctor I have ever been too. Highly recommended! He went over everything that we were testing and made me feel so much better to know he was going to resolve or get to the bottom of whatever is going on with me. I had read several reviews on him and he was named as one of the top 3 Best Encrinologists in the Birmingham, Al area. His staff was very polite to from the time you walked in until the time you walked out of the facility.

Dr. Goncalves is the ultimate professional.My visits with him are unlike any other doctors I’ve used. There is a personal touch with him that lets you know he cares. He uses “old school” instinct combined with modern technology & knowledge. I feel as if I could ask him about any issue I was having, relating to endocrinology or not, and he would help & treat me for it. Good doctor, good guy.

Dr. Goncalves is the best. He’s not only a premier endocrinologist, but a great role model of self-care. As I seek to take better and better care of myself to avoid diabetes (and hopefully even move out of the “pre” range), I see how he works out daily on the elliptical and obviously is careful about his diet. So nice to have a doctor that backs up his words by walking the walk!

Dr. Goncalves explained what my problem was in a way that I could understand. I have to have some labs done, so he will know how to treat me.

Dr Edison Goncalves is a wonderful doctor. I’ve been a patient of his for 3 years. At every visit, he has taken plenty of time to go over my lab work, answer any questions I have, and go over any recommendations with me. He is genuinely interested in me as his patient and how I’m doing. He is very patient and takes the time to explain things, as well as talk about anything else I bring up! I hope he is in practice for years to come!

Thursday April 1, 2021 was my first time being at Dr. Goncalves new office. I had an awesome experience. Dr. Goncalves was very kind and caring as usual. His new office is very spacious and comfortable. I have been a patient of Dr. Goncalves for over 20 years now. I can honestly say that he is one of the best Endocrinologist in the Birmingham area. I would encourage anyone who is need of an Endocrinologist in the Birmingham area to consider Dr. Edison Goncalves.

Awesome Doctor and staff

Dr. Goncalves has been my Endocrinologist for years. He is always very professional. He spends time helping keep my Diabetes on track, and keeping me up to date on the latest Diabetes technology! It is just wonderful having a Physician you can trust!

I’ve been coming to Dr. Goncalves for 5 years and completely trust him with our medical decisions. I say our because I have always felt 100 percent involved and believe he is an advocate for my best health. Yes, there are appt. times that have wait times, but he gives me full attention and plenty of patient/doctor time. His nurse is straight forward and so efficient in returning calls, finding answers to questions and calling in meds if needed.

Although the doctor seemed to care, I found out the last visit they performed ZERO labs, even when ordered. There was lots of confusion and organization, and not a single apology for a useless and lost visit (even though they offered no refund) Endocrinology is serious, and I hope this doctor gets it together for the sake of his patients? He has one chance to impress me, I hope he does better next time?

Routine annual thyroid exam.

This was my fist time in the new office. It was so easy to get to, I loved that.I was greted by two sweet ladies at front desk..and sat in a very clean waiting area with chairs placed 6 feet apartI appreciated that. The visit was very good,Dr. Goncalves always ask questions and readily answers any questions I may have. I would recommend him to everyone. A year earlier I was crying to him asking him to help me. I had no energy -.extreme fatiqueAfter bloodwork, sonagram, finding a growth on my thyroid and many questions. Today Im on a medication he prescribed & my life is so much better.

Ive been seeing Dr Goncalves for several years. He listens attentively, and addresses all my concerns. He takes time to explain tests, diagnosis, etc. thoroughly and doesnt rush thru the appt. I really value that kind of integrity.

I would give more stars than this but both times Ive been from appointment they have ran almost 2 hours behind both times.

Dr. Goncalves is a wonderful caring doctor. When I was first referred to him for Hyperthyroidism I thought I wasn’t going to make it. During the visit he took the time to listen to me about my symptoms and he assured me he will have me feeling better. He takes time with his patients and your health is his #1 priority. I had a very good experience as I always have with Dr. Goncalves.

His staff had absolutely ZERO customer service skills. They Hide behind their window with it slid closed and make you write your name down on a piece of paper while you wait for 30-60 minutes EVERY time before they even acknowledge you. How their boss allows this amazes me. The Dr. is fine. His staff not so much!

Great doctor and staff but I had to wait 2 hours to be seen.

The office staff is abhorrent. I haven’t made it in to the Dr. They have taken 2 weeks to make an appointment, canceled out of the blue without calling to fix medical record issues, never return calls. I waited for over a month and now I get to wait again AND had to again deal with their attitude.I think I should keep looking for an Endo as the reviews for his staff seem to be awful. They obviously do not care for the health and well being of patients as they cause more headache and work for them.

He is the most honest and caring doctor I’ve had in my adult life!! I was 24 when our journey began and going to an endocrinologist was scary for me. I absolutely love him... he was the only doctor patient enough to figure out what was wrong... he validated my feelings and help me get better. I highly recommend him!

I adore Dr. Goncalves! Hes amazing with understanding what is going on with your body (Im type 1 diabetic) and fixing the most minute thing to get you back on track! The reason for 3 stars is that you have to work with the ladies at the front desk. The one that you see right when you come in is absolutely AWFUL. Shes extremely rude and royally messes up prescriptions and then leaves you to fix it yourself. Rude through the entire process.

Dr. Goncalves is an awesome doctor. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an endocrinologist. He is very thorough and goes over every concern you have. He makes you feel like a human being instead of a number which is a rare characteristic that is fading in many medical offices today. However, that is not the case at Dr. Goncalves because he takes time to listen to the issues you are having. The ladies at the front desk were great as well. Also, he’s considerate on how far his patients have to drive to come see him.

I went for my first visit in November and they gave me paper work for my lab that day and for my lab work in February which is 3 months out. And the nurse at the desk has given me the run around every single time I’ve been there or called on the phone. Great Dr but terrible staff.

My wait was minimal. If it had been 2 hours, as sick as Ive been, I wouldnt have cared. I drove 1 1/2 hours to see him. He spent an extended amount of time with me going over all of my labs and tests from the previous 4 years and 3 doctors and dozens of medications. He listened to all of my symptoms and asked my husband questions. He explained my condition in detail and ordered all of the blood work that Ive been trying to get other doctors to do because of my symptoms and family history of multiple autoimmune diseases. He didnt rush through the exam and Im confident that he will do his best to help me. A friend referred me to him. I just wish I hadnt waited so long to take her advice.n

Great Doctor !! Not very good office staff !!

Nope! Full review coming later. The office manager has twice made things ridiculous. Denied my right to speak with her boss, my doctor, on the day of my visit. Ageist comment.... Im simply done, unless Dr. Goncalves comes back and does something tangible and fixes the problem with that lady.
