I would give them 10 ⭐️ s if I could! I am happy to be able to share my thoughts and experiences with A Step Ahead Prosthetics (ASAP) because I have never felt so supported and/or cared for by ANY healthcare provider.Everyone I have interacted with has shown such an incredible level of personal investment and passion toward the goal of seeing me walk again, you would think they were fighting the fight for their own family member. In fact, that really sums it up, at A Step Ahead, it feels like you are instantly accepted into their family and it is the kind of family everyone would choose if they could. The kind of family that wants only the best for you and is willing to stand beside you and fight to help you get it. The kind of family that, in those times when you feel like you dont have any fight left, keeps going for you until you win!

I wish I could give this place 0 starts, and report them to better business beaurea and some type of law enforcement. Erik and his staff are crooks. They billed my mother for a microprocessor knee, for a 88 year old woman and never gave it to her. they gave her some other knee even though they billed medicare thousands of dollars. Shame on you, Criminal

My son contracted bacterial menenghitas when he was 6 months old due to this airborne illness all 4 limbs had to be amputated. So prosthetics have been a part of his life from a very young age. He always hated them they hurt him constantly but I continued to push him I was always told from other prosthesist that he had to push through the pain. We were recommended to Step Ahead 3 yrs ago and it changed my sons life. His posture was horrible because of always being in the sitting position his spine was curved. After Eriks evaluation he went to work on Memphis and we committed to exactly what Erik and his team suggested and after 30 days of hard work on both sides Erik had his posture fixed. I told him about the advice of push through the pain and he explained that is just crazy. Each amputee is different there is no cookie cutter prosthetic for anyone he took the pain away Memphis is amputated through the knee, the ankle, the wrist and forearm so kind of like trying to walk on uneven stilts . My son is on his 3rd set of legs his confidence has completely turned around he just turned 15 got a girlfriend and loves wearing his legs. Step ahead put in just as much work as Memphis did and that is the difference between walking and not.

When I was searching for a prosthesis to help me after my limb loss, I went to several offices to preview their facility and staff. I found A Step Ahead Prosthetics to be the best facility to help me get back into the activities I use to perform. The facility is transparent, you see all that goes into making your prosthetic. The training equipment is clean, and ready to use for you to get back into action. Over many occasions the one thing that really got me to continue using A Step Ahead Prosthetics was the staff and customer service. They are very caring, patient, and professional; even when I’m just goofing around making light of the situation, they are focused on doing things right the first time!Great people, great facility and a great community which has made my tragic experience a truly wonderful journey to live my life without limits. They have earned a grade of A+ from me!!!

I cannot thank Erik and the entire A Step Ahead Prosthetics team enough for their expertise and support. I came to Erik an amputee of 21 years with aspirations of running and living my life without any limits. Fast forward 7 years and I have come farther than I could have possibly imagined. Erik and his staff have changed my life. I walk pain free and with a better gait than I have in my entire life. On top of it all I have become a world record holding runner in the half and full marathon. I can say without a doubt that none of this would have been possible without the outstanding level of care that Erik has given me! Thank you for changing my life!

From the finance team, to operations, and to of course the prosthetists, everyone at A Step Ahead has been so patient, kind, and helpful to me since becoming an amputee, and I can truly say with confidence that they want to see me live my best life with prosthesis. One of the best parts of going to see Erik is to meet some of the most inspirational men and women in the world with limb loss / limb difference who are always willing to lend a helping hand. I cant wait to see how far I can push myself with their help!

Ive had a great experience so far with A Step Ahead. My stumps are a tough fit - double BK just below the knees with lots of scar tissue and bony prominences dating back to a car accident 30 years ago. After having good success with prosthetics in my 20s and early 30s, I developed skin problems in my mid-30s and rather suddenly my old prosthetics were painful and unusable. I tried a couple new sockets with no luck, and by the time I came to see Erik about a year ago, my hopes were low. What a turnaround. The initial conversation and assessment, the help figuring out insurance, the sophisticated measurement process, the liners made in house, the experience and skill - it all just seemed to add up. Im walking again :)Thank you.

You will not find better! My son became an amputee at 18 months. He is now 14 years old. Erik and the team helped him take his first steps and now he is truly living his life without limitations. Its not a motto but a reality! My son does basketball, baseball, cross country and yes even cycling as an above knee amputee. They are compassionate and knowledgeable ( and I am in the medical field ). In addition they have FOUGHT HARD with my insurance company over the years and have a team in place just for that. That fact alone is priceless. Emergency calls, quick replacement of parts, fast appointments, compassion and yes the ability to make your kid laugh is just the beginning. I have met so many people (now friends) with the same concerns in their waiting room that I began to realize we we not the only people going through this. The feeling of family that you get was a huge part of our recovery. In any practice (even in my own) there will always be a few people that can never be pleased. However I know for sure that A Step Ahead tried their best. Why would you go anywhere else? Consider yourself blessed to be able to travel to such a place. You wont be sorry.

Erik is undoubtedly a fantastic prosthetist and the rest of the team are great. For about 15 years A Step Ahead looked after me very well, supporting the active lifestyle I like to lead, with walking, running and biking legs, including out of hours support on emergency repairs.Through my insurance company I would also get two new liners a year, at no extra cost. Then, this year, A Step Ahead wanted to charge me $2300 for these 2 liners and wouldnt explain to change in policy (there was no change in my health insurance provider either). I ended up going to a different company and now have my two new liners at no extra cost.In summary, A Step Ahead make fantastic legs and provide great support but be wary of pricing and dont be afraid to shop around.

The best prosthetics on the planet. The skilled technicians here are superb. You know they are good when you see people fly here from all over the country and the world. Plus many of the top athletes get their prosthesis here. You can see their dedication as soon as you walk in the door. Posters and videos playing on big screen televisions showing amputees doing amazing things. In addition, owner Eric is reaches out to new amputees any time disaster strikes, such as the Boston Marathon.

I see all these positive reviews. Yes some of these prosthetics look nice. But the service here is the worse. I was dealing with PhilHe had no compassion for a amputee he should not be working there. All they are concerned about is billing me and talking me into the most expensive parts. All I want is what I had. Mr Eric is the most arrogant person I have ever met, he acts like hes s brain surgeon. If you want a nice looking leg ok go there but if you want some one who actually cares about their patients and not consumed with making profits if the disabled. STAY FOR AWAY, from one amputee to another.

After a year of poorly fitting prosthetics and a prosthetist with a superiority complex we made the decision to move on. It is the best decision ever made. My son 18, is so excited because he has been in pain and struggling to walk. We were told it was part of the process and he had to get used to the painWhen we first walked in to A Step Ahead, the first thing we noticed was smiling , happy patients. They did not seem to be in pain. Erik greeted my son warmly and promised him he would soon be smiling too. We go back tomorrow for the first fitting and we cant wait. They are everything our orthopedic surgeon said they would be AND more!Thank you Erik and team. This everyday crying mom is looking forward to seeing her son pain free and walking like he should be.

This company has literally changed my life. I cant say enough about the talent and expertise of the staff. When I became a patient, I said goodbye to pain and low quality prosthetics and said hello to a whole new outlook on life. I look back and wonder what I did without them for so many years. It is well worth the travel from North Carolina, and I would reccomend them to any amputee looking to improve their quality of life.

Horrible experience with this company. Blaming the amputee for their coding errors. Really? Not professional and not the amputees job especially when you walk in and they tell you they will take care of insurance, not to worry. Not calling the patient. Waiting 1 month now and no paper work has been filed. No customer service and horrible treatment of a disabled person.

Greedy company that only cares about profits and not the amputee. They claim to help children with their modified dolls but are clearly just turning a profit and capitalizing on disabled children. I used to be a patient at a Step Ahead until they crafted a shoddy prosthetic that fell apart within 3 months only have to have them super glue and duct tape the socket back together because my insurance at the time temporarily dropped my coverage. Conveniently there was no mention of a warranty for the equipment they produced. They also couldnt bother with explaining how to care for prosthetic limbs since at the time I was a new amputee. Greedy company and Im still upset with how I was treated by the owner and the rest of the staff at this place.

I have been an amputee for 7 years. This has been the only prosthesis facility I have ever been to and I have no desire to search for other facilities because of how well I am treated there. I never leave disappointed or worried over the quality of my prosthetic. They are very open to me about insurance and coverage policies. When i do have an issue, I speak up, we discuss my concerns, find solutions, and we adjust accordingly.Progressing into my 20s, Keeping open communication channels between staff and patients is what I appreciate the most about this place because it leaves less chances for errors and allows me to learn more about adulting and being responsible for my healthcare. I have and will continue to recommend this place to any amputee I encounter out in the community.

We just celebrated our 10th anniversary with these guys and, with all my heart, I cant say enough about Mr. Shaffer and the staff at A Step Ahead Prosthetics! Our daughter was born with Proximal Femural Focal Deficiency (PFFD), a condition that makes it almost impossible to live a regular life. We were recommended to Erik by our doctors and immediately felt that we were in the right place. At first we hesitated since were not in New York, but after going to other facilities and getting second opinions we decided to go visit. They took care of us like we were family, helping us every step of the way. Now that our daughter is almost 11 we look at her and feel so blessed for having found this company! Thank you A Step Ahead Prosthetics!

I wish I could put No stars. Be very careful with this company , they will charge your insurance company and give you a prosthetic that is garbage, they are heavy, pin that doesnt release, charge for more accessories than given , a shrinker for 25 dollars that is on line for ten dollars. The owner ERIK Schaffer is an egotistical moron that thinks he is better than everyone and is a surgeon. Proof, he removed stitches on my leg after my amputation with out the doctors permission. That caused me an extra 3 weeks without a prostheticDo your homework call prosthetic companies go to them speak to others who go to them and then make a decision but RUN dont Walk Away from a step Ahead and the owner ERIK SCHAFFER FYI: I will continue to speak the truth regarding this horrible company
