My daughters been going here for several years the staff is wonderful. She has become really close to a couple of the instructors they have been so super nice to her and helpful. She goes there every day after school they take her from school to the club they then assist her with her homework and give her a snack and then she gets to play with her friends..she actually gets mad sometimes if I pick her up too early LOL! This place has been a godsend for me and my daughter n I highly recommend it to any school-age children.

Miss Diane oversees the food and clothing part of the salvation. Miss Diane needs to be on Union road in corporate. She has great skills but theyre being underutilized. But if she leaves here I think the salvation army herev will suffer, what a double-edged sword.

As far as used clothing this place has some very nice clothes with very reasonable prices!! The other items they may have depending on donations are also in great to excellent condition and are also reasonably priced. Most of the staff was friendly, but one lady in particular was extremely rude! Clothes are grouped according to what they are such as jeans, slacks, ext but they arent organized by size so unless you have tons of time to seach every item for your size, then it would definitely cause some inconvenience.

There have gone way up on prices. A lot are higher than Goodwill. They have pants for $8, $9 dollars shirts the same. Yes you can still find some good deals. But as far as clothes and shoes Goodwill prices are better

I have notice that the employees are allowed to purchase items while they are working. The other salvation army does not allow this. But maxine says she allows it because her employees are good workers. I think channel 9 news needs to be aware of this. Since she thinks she runs the store. She does want to follow rules. Or is she takeing stuff like we have seen her do. I will not be back to this store. Also I will not be donating any more to them. Bad business.

Prices going up and up. I have the blue bag which saves 20% on total purchase. Now their doing away with that. If they do they will lose my business. Goodwill will be cheaper.

The clothes I saw werent sorted by size so it was hard to find anything I wanted. Every time I saw something cute it wasnt my size. So I got sick of going thru it and gave up.

If you want to ruin a homeless persons life (or someone simply facing the affordable housing shortage and/or other criminal situations) send them here; the maintenance man hit on female clients when he could be doing other things, like, well, other things he also needed to work on--it was weird when male clients told him to scram from the dorm laughing; scrips passed, knives, too, what makes no sense is that people who dont live on the property are on their own plan, wherever they go, naturally enough, which they take full advantage everywhere they go bringing trouble to those who have to play by the Rules or theyd be off the property, too--both would probably be allowed back for meals together, though.Only one monitor had the nerve to tell people to stick it, others began to catch-on that their good nature, inattention and understanding was being raped once word on the street became about who was on duty that night, but whatever, honesty is what matters and I believe its there; besides that I owe: someone somewhere is being housed and fed, whole families if youve lost track of current events, and several months are not statistics but are probably just as unbearable. It can go badly quick and does so about every five minutes: success @ the Shelter = not being there as often as possible unless youre addicted to airborne pathogens.Im sure there are enough who successfully make it through the Program, the problem being that decent people with way too much patience cant fight back against professional parasites (on the property). Want to go to jail and wind-up back on the streets, then hang out with your prison friends @ the Fast n Fresh; follow the Rules and you should do well here; dont like going to bed @ 10 then go somewhere else and be quiet; get a job the minute you check-in cos the safety valve will be back off before you know it--that system aint goin nowhere. Its easy to drop-out from society altogether here if not reality, too, many do, forever, and if you choose to join them, 2nd Avenue Place will be glad to have you but the rest of us wont (so get in that kitchen and hit the rack: thats reality many face out there--prison isnt the Shelter: you can leave @ any time and one day will permanently, even if its through the window with a beer in your hand) aw

I was not greeted upon walking into the store. This was not my first experience with the Salvation Army of Hickory, NC. I have donated many times before today, and yet, the lack of respect and customer service I received today necessitated warning others like me, a young, African American woman, of the hateful treatment given to me.Others not like me, elderly and middle aged Caucasian women, received welcoming into this establishment and friendly conversation. In fact, there was an older Caucasian woman who was an employee who was indeed following me around the store. I went from the slacks section, to the blouses, to the blazers, and in between. Each time I looked up to see if I wanted to try on these clothes, there she was again pretending to sort through various items. I entered the tshirt aisle, thinking, Why dont I just come to her this time?. She stood there sorting and as I began to look through clothes at the opposite end, she seemingly left the aisle. But, as I moved down the aisle she came back and stood right beside me sorting. At this time my cart was full. I had been in this store for at least an hour. Not welcomed. No offered assistance. Not even given a smile. This person stood there and did not even acknowledge me. So, I engaged her. If she wanted to watch me for the possibility of stealing, and only me in a store full of people, I was going to make her see me - and not her perception of me. I said hello. Her response, Oh, hey, girl. Rememeber, I am a married woman and am close to 30 years old. But there it was. Her idea of me made explicit in that one word. I made small talk with her and she decided to end her sorting. My horrible experience does not end here. I was not greeted by any of the other two associates either. However, the one I interacted with was a young Latina and had seen me multiple times but had not greeted me the way she did others entering the store or who she saw already inside. I walked up to the checkout desk, and waited for her to return from doing some other work away from the desk. Upon her return, she did not greet me still. So I looked to the left and right with my eyes speaking nonverbal to imply, Arent you going to say, Hello, how are you? - Just as youd done for everyone else? She offered it, but was sheerly feigned as inauthentic. She rang up my items, and those that I did not choose to purchase were still in my cart. At the end of the transaction, I asked if I would I be able to leave the other clothes there at the desk. She asked if they would be on a second transaction. After I explained that they were the ones I did not want she raised her eyelids rolling them, and sighing, while reluctantly saying, Yea, sure.I regret not getting any of the names of these employees. But I will not be back. Nor will I ever donate at this establishment ever again.Persons of color who are African American - because other persons of Latin descent in this store received welcome as well - should beware.I am a believer in Christ. I hope someone in the Salvation Army corporate arena sees this review of my lackluster experience here today, and eventual change be made at the Hickory, NC location. It is unacceptable to treat people poorly when you claim to serve the Lord.

This store sucks. Rude to people. They the employees buy up all the items. Maxine the manager loads her stuff at the back door in her truck. Me and a friend saw her doing this. I will be contacting someone about this store. The other employees does this when she is not there. Lori the other worker has her family waiting for things after store closes. Shame on you. Someone needs to say something this has been going on a long time. And it is true they treat people rude and talk down to the customer. No more donations from me.

Mon thru thurs half off by colored tag. not trying to charge you retail like goodwill and there fake make money for profit selves. This a statement made by a lady about her good will experience. My son went to Goodwill today to find some work clothes... He made the following observations and took action... I am proud of My Son for his efforts to his fellow man:Ryan Muncy What seems like a fitting place to post this as this is my question to you goodwill industries. What are you doing for others?I was just in one of your stores and was witness to a def, mute boy who had a clothing voucherThis boy had an aid worker with him he had just been dropped off by his parents at a shelter with the clothing he had on .jeans that looked to be too small, no socks some worn out shoes, and a food stained t shirt .your employee took the time to explain to the aid worker that the jeans he had picked out from your store the t shirt he had picked out and 2 sweatshirts were not covered by the clothing voucher because of the color of the tags on these items also the boots he had picked out that were some worn Stanley workboots that were priced at 17.99 they arent even $30 new by the way were not covered by the voucher as you might imagine a person who cant really hear and cant speak takes the time to pick things out just to have an employee at your store tell his aid worker he cant have these things he was obviously in need ,isnt this what you are here for ,to help people in need.I find it shameful that your store a non for profit that sells donated items cannot help someone like this boy so instead I bought him the shirts and the jeans I spent a grand total of 21.69 and that is the last money I will ever spend in a goodwill store your CEO can make bonuses bigger then my years salary but you cant even afford to help a kid with some donated clothing shame on you and shame on your employees. And just so you know I will be posting something similar to this on my Facebook wall I wonder how long it will be before enough people see this one story and begin to feel the same way I now do toward your stores ,your company, and your upper management.

I went with a handiped Lady, she purchased a 35 dollar piece of used furniture and bought numerous other items they rudely told her she would need to load the table to her vehicle which was hard to step up into she rushed to her vehicle and I started putting the reminder of her purchase and told the lady that she has a bad hip and they needed to get their staff to load it for her. What about you. I stayed calmn but said Mam I cant lift over 5 lbs. Im a 20 years survivor of open heart surgery she ignores me continues to ring up her items and waited on her to load her table and acted irritated when she hadnt got back to pay it and 2 customers were in line behind her. Very rude people and the store was filthy Sorry Salvation Army but I am honest.
