I had a similar experience to the last review. I think it would be fair to state that Ive had problems with dentists in the past and so I have trust issues with dentists to say the least. 8 months after a procedure I received a $600 bill that they said insurance never covered. They said they would look into it after I contacted them. we are now 20 months from the procedure and they sent another notice for us to pay the $600 bill with no further explanation. My circumstances were also challenging as I was in school and we just had a newborn. I understand that this is a business and they have to make money to but this has not been the best experience. The dentist and dental hygienists were very nice and I wish them well.

Office bait and switched the bill on us. On the phone they always reassured us that it would be taken care of and that insurance was to blame. They asked me to deal with my insurance to figure it out. I would call back to the Smallwood office and they would have no idea what it was about. This happened about 4 times. My 180 dollar bill which was paid the day of treatment was followed up by about a 600$ bill. After saying they would help us out they kept sending bills threatening legal action against us if we didnt pay. This place is all sweet talk but wolfs in disguise. Used our covid 19 relief to get this dentist off our backs. Also they told me I had cavities one year but when I asked them to show me where they couldnt and then changed their mind and decided I didnt have cavities? Some shady insurance stuff going on here covered up by incompetence and ignorance. If their actions were as nice as they are in person there would be no problem. Customer be damned they are getting your money.

THIS OFFICE IS THE BEST. All of the staff is great, the place is spotless and they are so accommodating. I would HIGHLY recommend their office to anyone needing a new dentist. Text reminders for appointments, good location, good treatment, very satisfied with my experience. Switched from Hamblin and it was a great change to make. A world of difference in atmosphere.

I was searching for a new dentist when my dentist retired. I chose this practice after seeing TV commercials and I am so glad that I did. The entire staff is personable, knowledgeable and professional. The practice is organized so that you do not waste any time while you are there. What I really liked was the service plan that they came up with after my cleaning and checkup. I had a few cavities and needed an implant reseated. They gave me a plan with pricing that was really helpful and informative. I would highly recommend this practice.

Like this Dentist Office and recomend everyone. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Like my hygienist Autumn and assistent Kelly. Dr.Smallwood is very patient with me (I am not an easy patient :); he explains me everything what I am asking about, and I just believe him. He always treats my dental problems very well.

I had a bad experience at this dental practice and felt I was not treated well. I sent an email to Dr. Smallwood about my experience and never heard a response back.

It feels weird reviewing a dentistry practice but here goes:I was referred here by my sleep doc as I didnt tolerate other methods. I had a consult with Dr. McKown-Smallwood, who told me what to expect if I decided to pursue a dental solution. She was friendly, down-to-earth, and was able to explain things in an easy-to-understand manner. She also noticed/mentioned that I should get my teeth looked at by my dentist. I didnt have a dentist so I made an appointment for an actual dentistry check-up.Fast forward 4 months: I had my preliminary checkup (X-rays, etc.) but I still hadnt seen anyone for actual work. Then this week, I had a pretty severe toothache that got progressively worse. I finally called and Anna said shed get back to me and 3 hours later, she found a way to squeeze me in that day! And remember, I still wasnt an actual pt! The way they worked so hard to get me seen, even when I wasnt a true pt, is all I need to know that they care.Everyone who has seen me here has been incredibly helpful. I wish I could name them all! both Drs are fantastic, my hygienist, the front desk, and above all, the scheduler/insurance person. She breaks down EVERYTHING in a clear and concise manner and when I bring the paperwork home, its not like other places where I cant figure out anything that they told me since its all laid out and labeled.TL;DR had toothache, called them even tho the only thing they ever did was take X-rays. They figured out a way to see me on the same day. Everyone is awesome. The end.

Its always a good sign when the receptionists are kind! My husband and I both had good experiences here while having our teeth cleaned and a few cavities filled. All of the staff are kind and attentive. So glad weve found a good family dentist to go to!

Everyone is so friendly. They almost make it a pleasure to get a cavity. Of course, If you brush and floss like they show you.... no cavities!

I hadnt been to a dentist in 20 years because I couldnt afford to go and because I hate going. I finally bit the bullet and scheduled my appt. They were so kind on the phone. Then when I arrived, from the time I entered the office to the time I left everyone was so kind and caring. They were sensitive to my fears/phobias and did everything possible to make me comfortable. Everyone there is amazing!

Not only a great practice with routine checks, but so helpful and accommodating with urgent problems! Every individual I’ve encountered over the phone and in person was so kind and helpful when I needed them!

Very professional and friendly office. Never have to wait more than 5 minutes. Clean and inviting. Explain everything to me as they are attending to my teeth. Offer suggestions, especially if a problem arises.

I like this dental office very much. The front office staff is very friendly and helpful. It is easy to get an appointment. And they are good about working with me when I need to reschedule. The hygienists and the doctors do a good job.

I was inherited by Smallwood and McKown- Smallwood when my dentist retired. My previous dentist had chosen his replacements wisely and well.I especially like the same day crowns. I now have 4.

I was recommended to Dr. Smallwood when I was searching for a new dental facility. They are very courteous, friendly and Dr. Smallwood is funny and professional. The wait time is very minimal and pricing is normal within the industry. I highly recommend this dental team!

So, I LOVE THE DENTIST NOW. Everyone in the office was so fun and friendly. I graduated from JMU but am still making the trip back to see them for my next cleaning. Hands down, the best office across the board.

Great service and everyone makes you feel comfortable! Had a a crown and feeling done at same time without any problems. Would recommend everyone to give them a try!

Dr. Smallwood has been my dentist for over 5 years. I think just saying Im driving 2 hrs each way to keep him as my dentist qualifies as a strong recommendation. I have to warn you about his dry humor, though.

I was seen right on time. Staff was friendly, helpful, and caring. They answered my questions and gave suggestions on ways to improve my brushings.

Disappointed to be called on the morning of my 10 oclock appt. and told it was cancelled and couldnt reschedule for 3 weeks. I would believe expected to give a 24 hour cancellation notice, I got 1 1/2 hours.

Excellent hygienist, thorough explanation of procedures and cleaning.
