I visited my aunt at Arden House in Hamden Connecticut, and was exceptionally pleased by the clean and welcoming environment. The staff were very friendly and accommodating: The residents were happy and seemed well at home. I especially liked the fact that they took great precautions due to Covid-19, and made it possible for the residents to be vaccinated. I would definitely recommend Arden House to anyone looking for longterm care for their loved ones.

It is a peace of mind to know that your love one is been taken care with love and respect. That there dignity is as important to tha staff as it is to me. Every one plays a role and is essential in the care on my aunt. Thank you and God bless you.

We can’t thank Arden House enough for being a very active and compassionate part of our Hamden Community. They put together back packs filled with school supplies donated by their employees and staff members. They were gracious enough to reach out to Hamden Youth Center and offer us these much needed items for our youth.Arden House has combined all their efforts not only to keep their patients, and employees safe through this unimaginable time....but, also able to reach out to our community and offer help to our youth. We appreciate ALL your thoughtfulness and generosity, you are truly an inspiration to ALL of our Hamden Community!! My Mom was. Patient at Arden House from mid February to early June when she passed away. She spent her time in the Hospice Unit where she was given remarkable care. The nurses and aides were fantastic, making her feel comfortable and doing whatever they could for her. It was very reassuring knowing she was taken care of when because of the pandemic I could no longer visit her.

This place desrvess a zero and my dad is in the hospital because of them. the CNAs are tired and burnt out by a facility that overburdened them. That is never an excuse to neglect your job or patients. These are their homes they cant help that they live here and have aging needs. My dad couldnt do some things for himself so they just let him sit in silence without services while he had a serious infection. Absolutely not okay Ill be calling APS

My mom has been at Arden House now 3 times. She had surgeries on her feet that required her to be in bed and be cared for and to receive physical therapy, she did well under the care of Arden, then she went home for 2 years and now has returned for long term care during these difficult times and the staff has been really caring to my mom and they remember her from before. My mom says she loves everyone there and has made friends with everyone who cares for her, we talk on the phone everyday. My mom depends on hoyer lift for care and it was really difficult to get this 24/7 care back at home for us.

My sister was there for about two months.. she died in December but not because of anything Arden House did... my sister was very ill.. but when she was there.. I observed a lot of staff not answering the call button when we asked for help.. nobody was at the nursing station and mice’s running around... now I know it’s a old building but it can truly use a upgrade.. overall the staff was friendly.. I think if you show more caring towards the residents the place will be better.. I don’t want it to shut down but make good changes.. I wish everyone luck..

I have a cousin living here. At the beginning we as the family was so happy because it was better than Regal Care in New Haven. But now we have a change of hearts. Unfortunately because of the covid-19 we cant visit him in his room but we FaceTime him all the time and see and hear how hes being ignored when he needs a cup of water and how they shut the door on him because hes screaming his lungs out for attention, mind you he has a very bad heart. When they leave him hours without changing his pooped diaper or giving him a bath. This place is not a good one.

I have been involved with Arden House for over 10 years. I have seen much growth in the last 4 years, the residents are happy, clean and have many activities to do on a daily basis. The facility itself can use a upgrade, however, the longevity of staff makes it feel much more family oriented. I will be devastated to see this building close. Genesis and the State should see the strives made to pull this facility back together after some administrative set back some years ago. Patrick came in and set a president that continued to strengthen, encourage and set a standard for how management should play a part in the everyday lives of their residents. All Administrative and clinical staff I have encountered are happy to interact and care for their residents. I have been in far worse facilities that should be under this same scrutiny. Arden I love you.

I, M. McDavid, am very grateful for the team who worked with my Uncle during the outbreak of this Pandemic Covid-19. My Uncle John McDavid was truly cared for during this time. I was overwhelmed, scared and worried! Because at the same time in NY the Pandemic was at its peak. But the Nurses at the Arden House at 850 Mix Avenue, Hamden, CT really are the Heros. I called 3-4 times a day asking questions about my Uncle Johns health. Nurse Opal was my first contact, she went above and beyond using her phone at a distance, putting it on speaker to at lease allow me to hear my Uncle voice, Nurse Cheryl, who would also give me regular details as to my Uncles progress, and Nurse Erica, who I was told that my Uncle responded very positive to her, they ALWAYS were kind and tried to give me as many detail and keep me up to date on my Uncle. I know they ALL were very tired and stressed out!. I am very thankful for them ALL, who cared for my Uncle as a family member because I was not able to come to visit to be with him and to let him know that I his Niece, and my Aunt his Sister, Evelyn in (Wisconsin) were very concern and we were there in spirit with the Nurses there. They ALL cared for him as if he was family. All of the Nurses that cared for John McDavid. They are ALL TOP SHELF. STELLAR!!! If 5 Stars is the most I could give, I would give 6 stars * * * * * *. M. I am the Resident Council President. I love the staff and the facility as a whole. The Recreation programs are great! Lynn the TRD is wonderful. The aides give me great care and all the office staff are fabulous - like Phyllis and Janet in the Business Office and the Receptionist Kidra. The only reason I gave a 3 star was the food needs improvement. But they are putting out a new menu, so hopefully, it will be good and better.

This nursing home is where my mother suffered immensely due to a lot of chaos and confusion that transpired at the Arden House on a daily basis. The staff is negligent and unprofessional. The food is horrible and tasteless. My Moms roommate was physically abusive to her that caused bruises on her that were obviously not of a concern to the nurses who were in charge. If you are considering have a loved one reside at the Arden House; please reconsider.

The staff treat him as if they were his family and would do anything for him.I see some comments on here that paint a different picture than I just did...but maybe its because those people that are writing them are LOOKING for something to complain about. Just remember you cant always go by what others say, they may have their own agenda??!!Go see the facility for yourself...dont go by others opinions.

My grandmother spent her final years here. When she lost the ability to feed herself, her tray would be left in her room and removed untouched. We had to hire an outside caregiver to feed her when family could not be there to do it ourselves. Her belongings were repeatedly stolen and nothing was ever done about it. Family meetings with the head nurse and administrators were unsatisfactory and infuriating. I cant begin to list every instance of neglect and abuse we experienced and witnessed others suffering. Judging from the reviews, its clear that there has been no improvement in the years since my grandmothers death. Do not entrust your loved one here!

My husband Joe suffers from Dementia and Alzheimers and was admitted to Arden House after a long stay at Yale New Haven Hospital. On the day that Yale told me it was time for Joe to be discharged to a Skilled Nursing Facility I frantically drove over to Arden House so I would be there to meet him.Upon my arrival to the nursing home I was greeted by lovely woman with a great big smile and suddenly I felt so at ease. The Administrator Patrick McDonnell was in his office with the door open and when I asked to speak to him while waiting for the elevator he invited me right in to his office and stopped everything he was involved in and took the time to speak to me.When I got to the secured dementia unit where my husband would be admitted to I was again greeted by some of the most comforting people...from the housekeeper Jimmy...to the CNAs Angie, Rashida, Cynthia, Marilyn, Burt...to the nurse Malila...Everyone was warm and welcoming and completely willing to take the time to explain to me what was to come, what was to happen next...they took the time to answer my questions and reassure me everything would be ok.See my husband Joe has dementia...He can no longer focus on things, he can no longer interact with others as he used to, he gets agitated because he cant express what he wants anymore...The recreation department (Kristen) is so calming when he is having a hard day, or is frustrated because he just cant get it out...You tell me, How many nursing homes have residents up at 8 or 9 at night and are interacting with them? Engaging them in something to keep them occupied because tonight might just be one of those nights that they may not sleep? The residents that live on the dementia unit at Arden House have come there by no choice of their own. Many do not have visitors very often and so the staff become their family. My mother in law and I visit Joe every day and we see what a blessing the staff at Arden House have become to us and Joe.A 20 minute visit isnt enough to tell the story of what these wonderful people do for all the residents. Sometimes staff might be helping someone who needs some extra care and your loved one may have to wait a moment, you should realize it might be the other way around next time and your loved one could be the person in need of extra care.A special thanks to Kathy (unit manager), Janice (social worker), Nancy (financial counselor) and Michael (Director of Nursing), the staff at Arden House is wonderful, and I am forever grateful!
