Weve been at Spring Glen vet for 3+ years, initially for our first rescue puppy and more recently for our second rescue. Both dogs have had minor health issues that crop up and Spring Glen has been there 100%. They are extremely responsive our our needs and very helpfully have an electronic system and communicate quickly via email. Dr. Mags and the crew spend time teaching us about our pets health issues, which is so helpful. Were so happy to have a local vet who cares!

I was given a recommendation to try this Veterinary Clinic out for my pet. Coming from an already unreliable veterinary practice my first step was to read the reviews from your clients.I must say that although the negative responses dont outweigh the most positive feedback I am shocked in the manner of the responses back to the families that were not happy with your services.I have been a Supervisor in Customer Service for a major corporation and I never would have tolerated anyone speaking or writing back to any unsatisifed customer in such a manner. If you agree with what the customer is saying or not the best response would have been we are happy for the time we had to care for your pet, it is very unfortunate that you have decided to leave and find other services we wish you well. You have enough good reviews to over shadow the few negative comments being posted. Ive decided to look elsewhere I wouldnt want to be spoken to in this manner should I not agree with something and have to ask questions or not agree with the care of my pet.

The attitude from the front desk makes or breaks a relationship. Which is unfortunately why we are leaving this facility to seek out another. When a situation arises where a customer is clearly upset it is the CUSTOMER SERVICE job of the front desk to assist an unhappy customer. Not retaliate with an attitude. Extremely upset and will not be returning to this facility which unfortunately I have been bringing my dog to since she was a puppy. Such a shame.

Not knowledgeable veterinarians . Poor assessment skills and misdiagnoses. Horrible experience since Dr. Cohen left. Doctor wanted to run unnecessary tests and MRI on senior dog for a condition that is not treatable. Gave my dog medication which made her rear legs temporarily paralyzed . Try to Defend himself by saying that medication can make a dog drowsy. The dog was completely alert, but she could not move her rear legs for 2 hours. I never gave it again. Not trustworthy doctors, Veterinary Techs are kind and caring.RUN!! Look elsewhere.I never gave a bad review to any business or a person, and there are many reasons for that. Your focus should be the patient and not the owner. Besides your incompetence, and lack of compassion, you are also capable of spreading lies and I can’t allow that for the sake of our furry friends and their owners. There is no financial difficulties here, but rather a genuine concern that you are not capable to medically treat my furry family members. You said that my 11 yo GSD looks horrible, your statement is far beyond of unprofessional , but also cruel and grossly inaccurate. I would never give statement like that, unless I suspect abuse or mistreatment. Your statement was aimed to make me feel bad and had nothing to do with my dog wellbeing or the truth. These photos are taken the same day of my appointment with you. Let the public judge about looks of a 92 pounds , 11 yo GSD with severe and chronic dry eyes and progressive degenerative myelopathy, which btw you never diagnosed, but rather misdiagnosed with arthritis. She probably has that also, but that is besides the point. You DID recommend advanced imaging such as MRI or CT scan, despite the fact there is no tx for her condition but rather confirmation, which I decline to do You never recommended physical therapy or any kind of assistive equipment to help my dog. I can go on and on, but I am not going to. Let the public know the truth and judge the way my dog looks. My dog was a patient of Dr. Cohen since 2010, and we never had any issues. Think about that Dr. Maglailola.

I cannot speak highly enough about Spring Glen Vet Clinic and particularly Dr. Mags. I moved to North Haven 3+ years ago with my American Bulldog, Bruno. Having come from a much larger, corporate vet in the Hartford area, I was looking for a smaller, private vet to establish a relationship with and get a more personalized experience for my aging bulldog as he entered into his senior years.Spring Glen Vet Clinic gave me just that, and Dr. Mags exceeded my expectations in the care he gave to my Bruno, starting with the very first appointment where he wasted no time in getting down on the floor to perform his exam at ‘dog level’ to make Bruno feel at ease.As Bruno continued into his senior years, he developed severe heart issues and other health related problems. Dr. Mags was on the phone with me many nights, answering questions, and talking things through. I feel like he truly became a partner of mine in Bruno’s care, and together we discussed options and formulated a plan best suited to keeping Bruno happy and pain free as long as possible. My husband and I recently had to say goodbye to our beloved Bruno, which was by far one of the worst, most painful days of my life. Having Dr. Mags by our sides during this moment was comforting because we knew that on every level possible, he genuinely cared. Someday when our hearts have done some healing, and we are ready to bring a new 4 legged friend into our lives, we will see you again Dr. Mags!

There are reasons I drive an hour to see Dr. Mags after moving from New Haven. He is super compassionate and has a great personality (and actually loves my cats as much as I do). He also has a way of explaining in an understandable way whats going on, what processes/procedures entail, and whats truly necessary (read: he doesnt suggest things my cats dont really need and always gives options to limit costs). Theyre the best staff in-person and over the phone, especially Kayla, who I communicate with the most - always helpful and friendly. Last month, one of my cats threw up during the drive and I asked the vet tech who took them from my car for a few paper towels. He came back and insisted on cleaning the mat for me - like, insisted and would not let me do it. That was above and beyond and prompted me to write a review. They really make the experience of going to the vet as stress-free and affordable as possible.

No shame on you both! I am well within my means to express my opinion about my experience (just like you)- for you to invalidate our experience and shame us for expressing our first ammendment rights to freedom of speech is most shameful. You may believe your receptionist was calm and collected on the phone but i did not see it that way- throughout the entire call I could hear Dr.Mags screaming in the background.Regardless of the past unsavory encounters you conducted yourselves in an equally unsavory manner. And your response to my review is frankly petty and expresses just how insensitive you people really are. Get over yourselves and the power trip youre both on. Youre supposed to provide a service, not a judgement.Mags and his wife (the receptionist) were both very rude and unprofessional. After a couple of unsavory interactions they refused to see my cat, they defended that they were well within their rights to refuse service to us and that we should take the cat to the emergency hospital. I would not recommend this vet to anyone, they are untrustworthy and just plain rude. My cat of 15 years is towards the end of his life and were trying to make his last days comfortable- in refusing to see us and keeping us waiting they wasted the precious time he has left. I have no respect for these people as they clearly dont respect their customers and patients.

But before we go, I wanted to reach out and thank everyone at Spring Glen for how kind and caring you have been not only over the last year but also during this difficult and scary time of quarantine. Havoc and I have loved seeing you all and receiving care at your clinic! I can only say I wish we had known about your practice before the start of my final year here. All the staff here from the techs to Dr. Mags have been entirely considerate, kind, helpful, informative, and above all genuinely caring about the health and wellness of my dog. Thank you, thank you, thank you!I genuinely believe that if you know about this place youd be silly to take your animals anywhere else! They have incredible hours; a clean, nice office; a dedicated and kind staff; fair prices, and a charming, disarming, welcoming attitude. So glad to have discovered this place when I adopted my first dog, a senior rescue with chronic illness. Dr. Mags sat on the floor with Andre during the first appointment to do the exam where Andre was comfortable and spent a lot of time going over his issues and needs and options and was understanding and realistic about my financial constraints. Over the following months the staff and Dr Cosgrove were great-- always willing to answer questions by phone or email and I have yet to meet a staff member who is not kind and helpful. when Andre had to stay for the whole day for a test Kayla and the tech staff put up a gate to make a little area for him with them at reception so they could keep him company instead of leaving him in a cage alone to bark and be afraid which reassured and meant the world to me and my blind, older, sick dog who had been neglected by pervious owners. When Andre suddenly declined and we had to put him down at Central Hospital Dr Cosgrove still answered my email at 8pm on a Friday night to talk me through what might have happened to my baby and was so kind-I still remember him saying you always did right by Andre and how that was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. He was so kind and helpful and spent a good deal of time with me on the phone- and they made no money on the event as my dog was seen elsewhere. They even sent a sympathy card.I was happy to be back with them when I brought little Murphey into my home and they have continued to be helpful, compassionate and patient with my sometimes-neurotic questions and concerns. When Murphey was injured they worked him in to be quickly screened to determine what he would need next immediately and only charged for a tech visit. I found their pricing to be equally or often favorably comparable to other practices when I was first looking for a vet and since then I have always been 100% confident that they put the wellbeing of the animal first, period. They are not looking to soak you when they recommend things (and usually the most expensive things are done elsewhere anyway). Dr Cosgrove often references research he has recently read and both docs seem to stay up to date and take genuine interest in the animals.TL;DR: knowledgeable, compassionate, great staff who have your pets best interests at heart. Sensitive and helpful to prioritize based on financial constraints.

I had a very negative experience at Spring Glen Vet. Dr. Magliula said my cat had a heart murmur, high blood pressure, and an enlarged heart. He also strongly urged a $750 cardiology consultation to determine treatment for the enlarged heart. The consultation revealed that my cat didn’t have any of the conditions diagnosed by Dr. Magliula. The cardiologist said the false positives were likely caused by stress, which made sense to me. I was very relieved to find out my cat was healthy after waiting 4 months for the consultation, but I was also very frustrated since I had specifically told Dr. Magliula (when he said she had a murmur) that my cat had been very agitated in the car. He changed the subject, then advocated for the test whose results incorrectly indicated her enlarged heart. He later prescribed medication based on a blood pressure check done under clearly stressful conditions, which led to a falsely high reading. Obviously, I wish I had trusted my gut about the murmur and left right then. Remaining was an expensive and anxiety-provoking mistake.Edited to Respond to the Owner’s Response:As with your non-response here, the phone call it references failed to directly address any of my concerns. It was unclear to me why your wife was also on that call since I don’t know her and presumably she did not care for my cat. Immediately after I agreed to speak with you, she declared that the phone call was being recorded. (Fine with me.) Her interjections escalated an already tense situation into one that was completely unproductive. You both mischaracterized elements of my email, even after I explained them (although I don’t think they need explanation). I stayed on the call for as long as you wanted to talk. Make no mistake, that call was the reason I decided to post a review. Izzy and I appreciate your best wishes.

Dr. Mags is the most incredible veterinarian I’ve ever had the pleasure of associating with. From the first moment you meet to every time you see him, he will sit on the floor with your animal- pet them- talk to them making your animal and you feel at ease in his presence. There is no doubt of his intentions as you can see he is genuine with every single interaction you experience with him. Dr. Mags and his office manager Kayla (who is also his wife) are nothing less then amazing. They have never denied us services, regardless if the concern was big or small; how busy they were; if there was an unpaid balance, or any other concern, they still make sure they find the time for your animal to been seen. Dr. Mags has always been so honest, always presenting any and all options while explaining in detail what he felt was the best plan of care for your animal and why he thought so, but still taking into consideration your life style and financial means to help assist you, while keeping your furry baby’s best interest front and center.Dr. Mags is compassionate and selfless. No matter the situation he never rushes his time with you and is thorough in his examinations, explaining step by step so you can understand every action he is taking so nothing is a surprise. He is gentle and caring with your animal not only gaining your trust but most important theirs, where they are happy to see him no matter how scared they are to be at the doctors office. I had four dogs, two of which have now passed and he has been there for not only my animals but our family every step of the way. Loosing a furry baby is beyond devastating, Dr. Mags stayed with us with tears in his eyes and lovingly said his goodbyes along side us, giving us as much time as we needed and accommodating us in every way possible while we struggled with letting go during our final goodbyes. His actions alone during what was one of the most difficult times in my life will never be forgotten. I feel blessed to have found such such a wonderful organization and could never express how grateful I am for care he has provided to our family. I will be a remain a customer of this practice for as long as he is in business and will highly recommend his services to everyone. Thank you Dr. Mags and your staff for everything you do.

Update: As you can see by their response, it was a simple mistake and they are making it right. As a result, I have nothing bad to say about the vet and commend them and their practice for taking steps to fix the issue! Shows great moral character.Original post:First experience/visit was great! Very friendly staff and attentive to why I was there, couldn’t have asked for better. But second experience was a little different. Staff was still friendly and great. I was getting the second shot for Lyme disease when the receptionist told me my dog was due within 3 weeks for a Bordetella vaccine and heart worm test. We recently moved here and they had copied all of his records, a little confused as I thought he was up to date and nothing needed for some time, I agreed as I wasn’t positive and wanted the best for him. So a 30$ bill quickly turned into 150$. I was still confused and so when I got home, I looked at my previous vet records, all of which had been photocopied and uploaded into his chart; these indicated both of the add on tests/shots were not due for another 6 months (due in August 2019, clearly printed on his records). Although no harm was done, I feel a little cheated. Granted I should have looked at my records prior to agreeing, I went with the ease of it and had the tests done. Again, I want to say all the staff was very friendly and professional with my dog and I could not speak higher of the care he received. I’m hoping this was a simple mix-up but it did leave a bad impression.

UPDATE: Are you kidding me right now? When I first called about my dog not being able to empty his bladder, YOU stated he could come in and there would be NO CHARGE. Then, after each visit we started getting charged $80 a day!!!! You don’t think any normal person would question that??? I didn’t need Dr. Mags to look at him, I would have been fine with a vet tech just emptying his bladder, but Dr. Mags was not confident in his staff. Sounds like a personal problem? He did nothing but criticize us each visit and we were only grateful in the beginning because it was saving us from having to drive to Middletown each day. But then we realized Pieper actually cares about the pets they see and aren’t money hungry like you were. Believe me, nothing that Dr. Mags did during these visits were worth $80. He looked at the dog, emptied his bladder, told us we were horrible then left. Unless you’re counting the amount of time we spent waiting, there were no “hours” he spent with my dog during these visits. Dr. Mags had no right to question Dr. Hammond and the only reason my mother got angry is because you also overstepped your title and stated you were going to call animal control. How dare you.Kayla, the front desk secretary hung up on my mother when she called and would not answer the phone when she called back. Kayla just so happens to be married to Dr. Mags (what a match). Dr. Mags could not even put a catheter in my dog correctly and kept making him bleed and charged us an anstronimical price to catheterize him every day. Piper did it for less than $15 and never made him bleed, and actually, they taught me how to do it so we wouldn’t have to drive there every day and I never made him bleed either.Being in the medical field myself, I was very devastated knowing that his patient care was invisible. He treated my family like we were a bother with every phone call and visit we had. He would look at my dog and get visibly angry because we were “torturing him”. (All while my dog was wagging his tail and not crying in pain whatsoever).Although this happened a couple of months ago, I felt that it was important to share as I am still so hurt by the way this practice operated and handled this. The vet techs would roll their eyes at me and give me dirty looks because they thought I was such a horrible person for wanting to keep my dog alive. As I have found a new vet, I needed to type this to get my final closure. My dog has fully recovered and had a check up yesterday which verified that he is doing well. I never received an apology or follow up, which I guess is for the better, considering the choice words I would use if he ever called me.Summary:if you love your dog, take them elsewhere.Part 2 of 2.

I absolutely LOVE Spring Glen Vet clinic. I adopted my cat Kevin at 6 weeks old in July. I went into the clinic basically every other week with Kevin after I adopted him for various viruses and infections that came up. It honestly seemed to be pretty much normal run of the mill kitten stuff.Unfortunately, things took a turn after a while and Kevin started having issues that were very abnormal. It was clear that he wasn’t getting better. Kevin was having some serious digestive issues that were completely out of the ordinary for a kitten his age. I was very concerned, but Dr Mags was fantastic. During one of Kevin’s appointments he spent over an hour talking to me about what was going on and all of the possible things it could be. His concern for Kevin was so clear and everything he suggested was very clearly in Kevin’s best interest. We made decisions about Kevin’s treatment together, and I was very confident in every decision we made. Most recently, its become clear that Kevin has some lasting digestive issues. Dr. Mags has put him on a different diet plan and explained everything to me very clearly. Throughout all of the issues Kevin has had Dr. Mags has been extremely helpful, and the rest of the staff has become extremely familiar and caring toward him as well. To have a vet that cares for the well being of Kevin as much as I do has been amazing. I don’t know what I would do without this place!

Spring Glen Veterinary has changed ownership in the past year with the retirement of Dr. Cohen, but the new staff under Dr. Magliula (Dr. Mags) is as dedicated to loving your pets as much as you do. Wonderful people.

I took my 10 lb pup here and was mostly satisfied. The Doc thoroughly explained the vaccine schedule and treatment plan, they took her in the back, and brought her back. Then the doc came back in and told me instead of doing the vaccine schedule as we discussed his tech gave my pup all of them she was to get over the next several months. They gave her a benadryl shot, apologized and sent us on our way. Thankfully she was relatively fine after the vaccine overload mistake but it made me a little weary of their attention to detail. This is also where my male kitten was neutered and it couldnt have gone smoother. I think its a relatively safe place for animal care just make sure they slow down and give your babe the focus they deserve.

I will NEVER take my dog here! Im new to the area and my dog hurt her paw (though thankfully not badly) so I called Spring Glen after seeing some good reviews. However, the man I got on the phone was rude, abrupt, and unhelpful. He claimed that he couldnt answer basic questions like how much an office visit costs because he was new. Thats sort of understandable (though why would you have someone unable to answer basic questions manning the phone?), but his unwillingness to ask someone else for answers and the abrupt way he ended the call were unacceptable. Now because of his rudeness and incompetence I will NEVER take my dog here. Good receptionists are nearly as important as good vets. If you cant trust that the receptionist will answer questions and schedule appointments calmly, efficiently, and correctly, then how can you trust the clinic with your pet in an emergency?

Amazing vet!! When we rescued our dog we were told about Dr.Mags and I am so glad we chose to go here. During our first visit my (scared little rescue) dog almost bit Dr.Mags, but instead of blaming the dog he acknowledged that he may be giving off bad vibes because he was late to work that day and had an ill family member. He then made extra care to do everything calmly and the visit went smoothly from there on. He also answered all the millions of questions I had for him throughly and thoughtfully. Some vets may rush you in and out, but Dr.Mags really seems to care about each individual animal. Also he doesnt force you into things you dont want, we told him up front that we did not want to give our dog Bravecto and he didnt argue one bit. Highly recommend going here!

So you send me the central Hospital for veterinary medicin, that charge me $750.00, incorrecty read their own blood work / misdiagnosed Sophia/ ignored her health history, perfectly healthy, active dog / and worst tried to scare us into believing my healthy 2 year old is near death and that I need pay $3,000 or she won’t make it another night... all because you couldn’t do blood work or administer an IV. I’ve asked you two times to return my calls, you are 0-2 . I’m coming in tomorrow to pick up her records. I’ve spent over 500.00 at your place. I have Strong concerns at your ability and willingness to take care of Sophia. In your diagnostic of her symptoms, not once did you raise thepossibility that it could be a side effects from the 4 vaccines you recommended my dog take which were all administer at your facility! You knew how hesitant and reluctant I was to give them to Sophia. I found an alarming amount of information about the side effects manifesting a year down the road, especially if the dog had pre existing allergies. Which you were well aware of Time stamp 02/06/2018

I felt almost intimidated about giving this one star based upon how aggressively and unprofessionally I read Dr. Mags respond to his other one star review. However, I decided to post regardless, because people have the right to hear about everyones opinions and not just the good ones.I got a puppy in late 2017 for Christmas, a rescue, from a local rescue shelter. I soon thereafter began the search for Vets. I started reading reviews of Vet businesses in Hamden, North Haven, East Haven, Branford, North Branford, Guilford and numerous others. Something stood out at the Spring Glen Vet and that was this name Dr. Mags. People seemed to rave and highly review him on this site. So my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go.Anyway, long story short we went to this Vet a total of (this is my recollection, but I am sure Dr. Mags will review his records and correct me with facts in his rebuttal if I am wrong) 3 times. Every single time Dr. Mags was no where to be found. I never even met this locally loved and infamously well reviewed guy. There was some other stand in woman there who I do not recall her name or what her role or position was in the company. So that was initially very disappointing that in the span of 3 visits to Spring Glen Vet not once was Dr. Mags available. The first visit I was not in attendance, and I write this portion of the review with my girlfriends first hand account. We came to get the final round of the distemper shot. (Dr. Mags check my facts please) This woman put tremendous pressure to get more shots. She ended up giving our puppy 2 additional shots. My girlfriend went in unknowing and uninformed about shots and this Doctor put pressure and used fear to insist that the puppy be given 2 additional shots. Also, she encouraged that the more shots you get the more money you can save by bundling. I find this sales tactic to be bullish and unprofessional. This appointment ended up costing somewhere around 150$ or more dollars. (Check me)The next appointment I attended alone. I had some worry about my dogs condition as they had tested her poop and diagnosed her with Giardiasis. This is where I feel things became even more ridiculous. Again no Dr. Mags who I looked forward to seeing and treating my dog. I drop off a poop sample and they want 100.00$ to test the poop!!!!!!! So granted I am not a Doctor like Dr. Mags referenced in his rebuttal of this other one star review. But Google has some information my friend. Average blood test costs 45 to 50$. Average fecal exam is 25 to 45$. I paid the 100$ and tried to let that go.I return again for the third time. She is examined (again not by Dr Mag) and diagnosed. OK so now I have numbers. Initial visit 150$. Poop test 100$ per test. Follow up visit 355$ and then they wanted me to come back again in a week or 2 with an additional poop sample. This Vet has the most inflated ridiculous prices, the most bullish tactics, and based on his response to the other reviewer unprofessional behavior. I am sad and disappointed. The kicker is the day I took my dog in I was in no way prepared to spend almost 400$ and had a small balance left over. I have since moved on to a new Vet and left this one behind. Today I received a letter stating legal action would be taken against me if I did not pay. I never received a bill or a reminder ...an email a letter... nothing. So tomorrow I will be in contact to straighten that out. Readers beware Dr. Mags is apparently a nice guy and gives good service unless you do something he doesnt like.I hope Dr. Mags takes it easy on me in his vehement response.

Edit in response: since my initial review gave no explanation, I would like to add more context. Admittedly, we made a mistake and did not properly understand the protocols. We are out of state new clients and were under the impression that we were able to enter the vet to drop our dog off. All doors said do not enter which made us very confused. The back door said to use the Whitney entrance and the Whitney entrance door said do not enter. For that reason, we hesitantly entered the Whitney door since one sign said to do that and said we were confused on which entrance to use because of the signs. We were not supposed to enter because of covid and should have called. clearly we missed something in the communication and that is on us.What is not on us is how you responded and that is ultimately the reason for this 1/5 star review. You gruffly and pretty harshly reprimanded us for our accidental mistake. While I found the way you spoke completely unprofessional and inappropriate, I would perhaps have been willing to give you the benefit of the doubt as it was the end of the day and I’m sure it is frustrating to deal with people messing up these protocols, even if it’s an accident, but the events that followed are inexplicable. You left and we calmly expressed dissatisfaction regarding how you spoke to us then exited the building to call the number you gave us. Any other description of our complaint, even if you for some reason disagreed that you were rude, would be inaccurate regardless of what I’m sure you will claim in your response. Before we had the chance to call, you came out and said, “it sounds like you don’t want the appointment anymore” (or something along those lines). You then slammed the door in our face and when we called the number you had *just* told us to call, nobody answered. You can go ahead and rip this review apart, as you have so many others. It’s just my understanding of what happened and my opinion on how inappropriate the response was, though I’m sure your opinion is different. Other people can form their own opinion. Ultimately, if I had seen the way you responded to other dissatisfied customers, I never would have booked the appointment to begin with. Seeing that my opinion and experience, though the minority, is shared by many others tells me that your outburst was not the result of exhaustion or covid-specific frustration but rather a pattern and indication of character. This actually makes me happy you denied us an appointment that had been booked for months because now I can find a new vet that will be a better fit for me. Clearly we messed up the protocols and I get that was the starting point for the incident. I just feel strongly that the scale of the reaction was overblown, particularly since there could have been such a simple, amicable solution. Based on the reviews, it seems like you’re a good vet most of the time. But boy have the rest of us seen a different side. The customer may not always be right, but neither are you.
