My husband was a patient with excellent care from the nurses in the heart center. We did have an issue with discharge delay due to a doctor, but the charge nurse, Yolanda was terrific in getting it taken care of. We truly thank her for her professionalism and prompt attention.

Ive had heart issues twice in the last few years and the Drs at Vidant did a great job taking care of me. If you go to the ER with heart issues you will be seen ASAP! They have this process streamlined. The second time I had to have a camera run from my wrist up into my heart and there was no pain at all other than the pinching feeling of getting a shot. Now the treadmill test is the hardest thing about it, but if you are unable to do the treadmill they can get the results they need with just a shot.

The doctors we came into contact with are great. Some cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons and trauma surgeons. The nursing staff at ECHI at Vidant Medical is hit or miss. It seems they have a lot of people training, some of the rookies are good and others are down right horrible. Some of the trainers are great and again, some should choose another profession. Im not sure where the oversight is, but it seems that if you have a bad experience with the nurses it goes unchecked unless a family member is there and can follow up with someone. Several times I noticed a few of the nurses walking around and chatting with each other...and thats all they did for more than an hour. I would assume that these are the trainers/instructors and they are letting the trainee/rookie do all the work. This situation lets bad practices go unchecked. Lots of young nurses fresh out of school that seem to be too by the book, for instance; after moving my father back into his bed and letting him flop down uncontrolled, he let out a pretty loud groan from pain in the area of one of his surgeries. The other nurse who was making notes for his chart was asking his pain level. He was being moved because he was in severe pain and told them this, he groaned loudly. Anybody with common sense would have saved the time and not forced him to speak with going through this and simply entered a 10/10 for his pain level. Sadly this wasnt the worst of the experiences. Like I said though, there are a few nurses that really shine. Older guy named Ronnie, that dude is amazing. He always made sure my dad, my brother and I were all doing well and checked to see if there was anything he could do for us. I found myself several times seeking him out even if he wasnt my dads nurse for the day. A middle aged tall guy named John was great. A mid 30s lady named Melissa and her trainee Jordan were awesome. A younger lady named Jennifer was very helpful.I cant speak highly enough of Dr. Hazaim Alwair and his team. He saved my dads life. He shared the same traits as Ronnie; always made sure to check on my father, brother and me even when dad wasnt on his list of patients to see for that round. Very friendly and approachable. He also kept some of the nurses in check too. He had a younger darker completed woman that was with him most of the time we saw him, she had glasses and a big smile. She made sure that the rest of the family and I were taken care of. She went out of her way to make sure we could have a few simple luxuries that often get thrown out because of the nature of some illnesses. The trauma surgeon Nicole Garcia was very helpful as well and made sure we were all well informed. Dr Guyton from surgery was also helpful. Vascular Surgeon Yamahuchi had a way of treating my dad like a friend and human being, instead of treating him like an invoice number or just a billing account. Over all the experience was good, much better than our previous trip to Vidant Chesapeake in Virginia. The whole Vidant system is a joke however and the fact that you have to pay to park at the Greenville facility while visiting a sick loved one is just down right wrong. They only validate parking for the first 24 hours, but on a multiple week stay that is unacceptable. The parking booths close at 11pm and you dont have to pay to leave no matter if your car has been there for 17 minutes or 17 days. None of the other Vidant locations, to my knowledge, charge for parking. Its taking advantage of someone in their time of need. Disgusting behavior. With all this in mind, if my dad ever gets sick or another family member needs cardiologist work, we will come this way instead of going to Norfolk or Chesapeake. Greenville is about 2.5 hours drive, Chesapeake 75 minutes and Norfolk 90 minutes. Take that for what its worth.
