I have been a guest chef many times for this facility and have always found the staff to be courteous and caring. The guests are respectful and kind to each other from what I can see while serving dinner and eating with residents. I have cooked good food along with fellow congregants of my Temple many times, and I hope it provided some degree of comfort. I encourage others to sign up to do the same!

11/5/18 to 2/26/19I was very grateful for Ascencia. The shelter is cleaner than most and the chefs that volunteered were good. They allow the guest to do drugs. They were high around children. Vonda helped me... but she play both sides. She is still helping me. I like her but I know how she operates.I needed a place to live. However, the homeless guest were awful. They were malicious. Spider bites, going in my purse while I was sleeping, went in my suitcase read my journals, stealing my social security number, The staff did nothing.

On holidays staff does not stock to towels or basic needs for men women n children. This is not a prison so why do they read personal mail. Dont follow own policy n procedures..people who work can sleep/til 10...Hope..EVERYBODY IS UP BY 7:30. Everyday peanut bitter n jelly. They are all not counselors. My theory..if you dont like your job, then leave . if your miserable you make others the same. People have HUD and they dont process paperwork correctly so they can t get out. Is it because they gets their $ on body count. Whoever funds this place needs to check in undercover. Some personnel need training just for basic manners. Over 2 weeks they would not give my $20 back for one reason or another.

Currently living here at this shelter. its modern and clean. hot meals are served everyday for dinner at 6pm. sometimes there is breakfast but not everyday. they let you stay for 2 months in the emergency shelter program but some people have stayed longer if they are working or need extra time while finding a place. they tell you to save all of your money while you are there by turning in money orders to them. they hold it then give it back when you leave. they promise to help you find work but in reality its on you to find a place to work and then a place to live. they have said they will help with the security deposit on a place which is cool so we will see how that goes later...the best way to get in is not by signing up (wait list is more then 6 months) but by being referred through another place like a mental hospital or if you know someone that already stays in the shelter. overall its been helpful for me to stay here while i get my life together. thanks for being there

I always like to refer people I see on the street to this place. They offer showers and case management for individuals who want to stay clean and get into a safe place. They offer a 90 day stay in house and refferal to another place after that. Serving the community well and nothing but nice people there.

Homelessness is a multifaceted problem. Part of the problem is housing costs that have gone up because of the lack of affordable housing. Part of the problem is wages have not grown at the same rate as the cost of living. Part of the problem is lack of housing units to accommodate an ever growing population. A great percentage of people do not make enough money to save for emergencies, and when one comes up, it is a matter of chosing sometimes life over housing. Homeless people come from all walks of life, young, old, able-bodied, disabled, mentally ill, substance abusers, recovering, abused, religious, atheist, veterans, survivors, single, with family, working, retired, etc.Ascencia has been trying for years to help the homeless, and was one of the first in the battle. Every agency is overwhelmed at this point. There are not nearly enough beds to accommodate all the homeless in Los Angeles and Ascencia tries to make the best out of a bad situation. They have a great board of directors, and management. Staff tries to be as helpful as possible. Other charities and churches help by providing meals to the shelters residents. They make every effort they can to permanently house their clients, an uphill battle for many of the reasons stated above.Go to their website and make a donation. Help them lift people out of homelessness. Every little bit helps.

They changed the shower policy now you need to do appointment. I have no time to call everyday the same person just to take a shower you know how annoying is that for the person and me?Also when I went there they didnt had food and i am homeless for 9 months and is really shocking that they still do a excuse to not give me housing pretty bad its this shelter.Other shelters they give me housing by following the list within 6 days (less than a week) they already had a space for me.If you trying to look for a housing and you are homeless do not come here not recommended.
