I have been on these trails since 1975. We actuly made the hiking trails on horse back. I feel the price to enter or for a annual membership is a bit high. I dont mind paying something but that much is actuly too much. The camping area looks more like squatters in some spots. The park does not offer a lot is amenities it justify the steep fee. But I enjoy that it is more of a wilderness atmosphere.

A great place to stay off the beaten path. Surprisingly large sites. Didnt visit the bath house, but the park is very clean and well kept. We broke down here and the staff helped us in many different ways. JJ, the grounds manager, stopped to check on us daily. A must visit spot not far from Ocean Springs.

Boat launch needs some dock repair for safety, but it’s a pretty place with archery ranges and a new trading post we’ve yet to visit. Signs do say ice and gas. $18/rv night with 50 amp

Beautiful Park ! 🏞️ They recently added a wonderful welcome center with general store (made out of an old log cabin) and a walking pier over the marsh. The park is well maintained and peaceful. Enjoy hiking, disk golf, bring your dog to the dog park or enjoy camping. They have an archery range, playground and picnic pavilions, also.

Love this park. Our first time camping here and its been great. The campsites are spacious and the park, so far has not been overly busy. The mens restroom/ shower house is awesome and new! The only way the park could be any better is if it had sewer hookup at the campsites. The new showers could also use some traction stickers on the floor as they are a bit slippery when showering.

In May, 2020, My husband and I traveled from Wisconsin to Mississippi on our first RV trip and chose Shepard State Park for its location and our preference for a close-to-nature environment. We stayed in the RV campground.Very friendly staff. Showers had nice tiled stalls, warm water was abundant. Bathroom was clean and always had TP and paper towels available.Cool archery lanes, two disk golf courses, a great playground for the kids in the festival area.Really awesome bridge over saltwater marsh.Lots of hiking trails for all levels of hiking experience. We loved it!

Wonderful stay in this beautiful local park. The staff took great care of us for three weeks. We are full-time RVrs with years of camping/RV experience. Dixie handled our reservation most friendly and efficiently. In particular, the Park Ranger, J.J. was immediately accommodating and more than willing to go above and beyond to ensure patrons were content, secure, and comfortable during their visit. Keep him happy Gautier, he is a most dedicated employee! Thank you Shepard State Park!

This park is such a little gem nestled up near the coastline. wooded and secluded camper sites, lots of walking trails, and amazing new bridge out over the picturesque marsh. we really enjoyed our 8 day stay. bathrooms were decent, as of march 2021 men’s had been totally renovated while women’s had not (outdated but perfectly functional). disc golf course is great, heavily wooded in areas and if there’s been any rain you will encounter mud and standing water. but wear some good boots and go anyway, it’s a really fun course. and best feature of all — the dozen or so archery lanes. really loved being able to bring our bows down and do some target practice.gautier isn’t a great town, but oceans springs is super quaint, great restaurants and pubs, and down the street from good beaches. only about a 25 min drive from the campsite.

I booked this place solely from the google reviews. It might of been all that it said it was many years ago. The whole place needs a good shake up. Pulled into our site (the only good thing about it that it was not under water some had 3 inches of standing water in them) however the amount if trash strewn about was off-putting. The female restroom was down right repulsive. Rotting doors; that did not lock, more rust than metal you get the idea. We were excited because the website talked of footpaths, they might of been there but so badly overgrown Im not sure youd come out alive. In short we were booked for 4 nights, hitched up and pulled out after 1! Oh and I hope you like the sound of trains, they are close enough to rattle my trailer.

Wow. This state park had so much to offer. I went camping for two days here. There were times where the biting gnats were horrible, but it only seemed to be right before sunset and then they were gone. Nice campground. Site 12 seems to be the prime spot with a nice view of the water. So many trails! You will get lost. New boardwalk. Disc golf that you will likely walk several miles to complete it. About 30 archery targets. Great park. The only downside was the trash! There was so much trash on the trails near the water and in the water at the boardwalk.

The park is beautiful, azaleas were in full bloom. Camping area fairly old and well used, needs some updating, the camp site are mostly dirt and and unlevel but manageable. I pickup up a bag litter around my campsite. But my biggest disappointment was the new trail over the marsh, just completed, Beautiful walk but the contractor did not pickup his mess, that are laying in the marsh, cut boards laying around and other trash from them. If the job is complete I hope the state/park did not signed off the job until his mess is picked up. Also just old litter in the marsh need to be cleaned up.

Campsite 001 of RV Park Lamotte Bayou CampgroundPro: Much more secluded than the other sites.Con: Long trek to the bathroom, street light shines directly into camp, the nearby campground managers dogs bark all night long. The mens bathroom was recently redone and its very nice, I think they clean it weekly or more often. There is only one stall and thus only one TP holder, I recommend bringing your own as backup. The archery option is very nice and the disc golf course is solid as well. Some of the trails are missing signs at intersections, bring a map with you.

This is a nice 28 site county ran Campground. There seems to be a lot of permanent campers here. This is a dog friendly Campground, I know all are but people walk their dogs off leash alot here. So beware. There are alot of ticks so check your pup and yourself after a walk. If you check in after 5pm you can find your pass in the box. No ranger on site but at the Office there was a nice lady. Shower/bathrooms were slightly dated but very clean. My issue was in the morning after the bathhouse was cleaned, whoever didnt rinse or wipe off the beach they used. My pants fell off the hook and were completely ruined. So if Environmental Services reads this please rinse the bleach after using it. We would stay here again for sure.

A hidden gem with just 28 sites with only E/W (though the host site has sewer). Park is off the beaten path, but it has a lot going for it. Lots of opportunity for trail walking. Wildlife does walk through your camp sites at night. Park was in the process of finishing a very nice elevated walkway through the marsh. No fire ring, but most sites we saw had a circle of stones. Sites were large and well-spaced with lots of shade. Given the proximity to water, you may have to fight off the flying no-seeums in the summer, but we didnt have an issue. While the park is wooded, the electrical box at each site as a light and there are light poles spaced throughout along the road. Opportunities to restock are available out in town but not much in the way of tourist stuff. Most of the campers we saw were in town for the Mullet Festival. The roads can be tight, but we saw several large 5th wheelers as well as 30-plus foot self-drives. The address given on the website did not take us to the park, but to a spot about 1/4 mile away. There is a very nice wood Park Office at the entrance that probably houses a store, but everything was closed. A small gate office further in is where you check in. By all appearances, the park is working to get things back to normal. We camped at Shepard State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Shepard State Park is a very affordable campground and there are reasons for this. The RV sites are woodsy an not too close together. The place is peaceful and mostly quiet, except when there is a passing freight train on a nearby major East/West rail line. The campground restrooms were clean-ish and not in the best condition, tolerable for the price. There was warm shower water but not hot! The disc golf course seems well laid out and there is an archery course, as well. The hiking trails could use some trimming up and more trail markers. There really are not a lot of other activities to be had here, other than rough rock/sand road bicycling. We did meet some new friends here, so that is a plus. The camp hosts and office person were helpful and friendly.

Compared to other state campgrounds, this one is smaller at 400 acres and 28 power/water hookup sites. But, it is very quiet with great, isolated sites around the outside and all sites a pretty easy walk to the centrally located restrooms/showers. Fire ring, grill and picnic table in each site. Perfect for getting away. There are also a good number of primitive sites with their own restrooms/showers. Definitely recommend.

Peaceful and sprawling; this park is exactly what someone like me is looking for. Im camping on a huge site, nestled in a wooded lot and surrounded by nature. The big comfort station is not too far away, and its old, but its clean. Exotic (to me) bird calls are intermittently scattered in different directions around me. I think I hear a hawk. Ive spent the morning spotting and taking pictures of plants ands trees to be identified. Light traffic noise in the distance is the only reminder of what lies outside of the park- Well, almost perfect anyway.

My wife and I planned a trip to the park for a chance to try out the new archery range. Unusual arrangement of targets with 28 lanes that are about 40 yards apart much like a bowling alley but the shots range from 15 to 80 yards. The lanes are separated by trees and thick ground cover with nice walkways, benches, and bow racks. Each bagged target has defined scoring rings and are securely mounted under a permanent awning. Although the cost was only 3 bucks, it appeared to have very little use. We went on a Saturday and had the range to ourselves. Try it out, you wont be disappointed!

Beware! People living in the park. Made a reservation online, drove through While in the area to check it out a week before we had reserved to stay. Individuals had several campers on center blocks, lots of trash, tarps on roofs. Air units hanging out of windows. These folks are camping right next to the bathrooms. I wanted to cancel because just wasn’t what we thought and I have children to consider who were uncomfortable when they too saw this. We are avid campers. Camp at many state parks all over the south. This place refused to give me my money back even after a call to the city. City parks and recreation was rude. And this was 1 week before our check in date. Would only give half of weekend in refund. Guess my donation to the state. Poor customer service. Shame on the city for allowing such a nice park to be ran this way. Shame on them for not doing a better job conducting business better. I will never return to Gautier. Wish I had pictures but it’s too far out there to go back for that.
