If there was a rating of less than 1 that would have been it. Awhile ago a neighbors dog that we shared went missing. I called for 2 weeks and was repeatedly told he was not there. Something finally told me to take a picture by. I left the picture and was told he was not there. Within 10 minutes I received a call from Ms Townsend who said he was there. She proceeded to question me about the care of the dog and stated that since it had been 2 weeks they could keep the dog. Needless to say that did not go over well since I had been calling for 2 weeks and had been put through emotional hell looking for him. My neighbors finally got him back but Ms Townsend and her staff/volunteers need to work on people skills and honesty. It also breaks my heart of reading other reviews where people were lead on about adopting a dog only to have their hearts broken. Now the neighborsDog is gone again but there is a family who has been wanting him and can keep him within a specified area with lots of love. Once again he is at SPA but we’re told he was not there. The family who wants him has been waiting hours for Ms Townsend to return her call as promised.

I love this shelter. Weve adopted two absolutely wonderful dogs from here. They do ask you some questions first to ensure the pets they bring out match your lifestyle, but ultimately thats a good thing. It warms my heart that there are people and places like this taking care of those who fell through the cracks.

I called about a specific dog I posted as available online. She said yes, this one is still available for adoption . I drove out. Then was told I needed to wait for the dog to be done with her outdoor play time. I was totally fine with that . Waited 25 minutes. Then another 15 for them to bri g her out and assign us to a closed area. Played with her. Fell in love immediately. Then told I might could get her in a week or so. They want to do more work with her and call all references. ( they have a form to fill out) . Then told oh she has 7 others in front of you wanting her!!! Huh????? Im thinking you all couldnt tell me this on the phone????? As soon as I got here????? Before I waited??????Definitely not ok to lead people on. 😕

My fiancé and I decided it was time to expand our family and get a dog. We looked around at a couple of places and ended up finding one we both loved at Safe Place for Animals. The man that helped us (I think his name was Mitch) was very polite and informative and showed he truly cared about every animal there. We filled out an application and turned it in the same day. The woman in the office took the application and told us she would’t get around to them until a few days later because it was a holiday weekend. We told her that was totally fine and that we looked forward to hearing back. A week went by so we called for a status update. The woman who answered the phone was very rude and told us if we hadn’t heard anything that meant they haven’t looked at our application. That wasn’t a problem. A week after that we called again and we got pretty much the same answer. We never did hear back from them. They handle business very poorly and the office lady isn’t very friendly. We moved on and found the perfect pup for our family. He’s very happy, healthy, and SPOILED. I’d like to think we were meant to be with our sweet boy we have now, but I also think SPA needs to handle things a bit more professionally.

We went to adopt a cat. First, we were told to go in and meet the cats and someone would come speak with us. No one ever came. When they did, they spoke to the other ladies in the room. I had to approach and ask questions. Then, we were filling out an application, another lady came in and said too many people were in that room. The same number had been in there for about 15 minutes. They asked us to come out of the room to fill out the form. Then we were asked to just step outside, fill it out, and bring it to them. The whole time, we were treated as an inconvenience. We didn’t know what to do, and then people kept telling us to basically hurry when we were just waiting for someone to tell us what’s happening. This was so disheartening. We just decided to not adopt anyone and leave. This was such a frustrating experience. I understand you were closing, but we hadn’t sped things up because we were waiting for you to talk to us. These babies deserve good homes. Please just treat people better when they come in.

Place is a joke and a fraud. Took about 4 weeks for our dog application to get accepted(had to call multiple times just to get it looked at). Went to pick up our dog, paid, then they told us he’s sick and has bad kennel cough(owner never mentioned this to us). We said we’d wait a week to get him so he’s better, called 4 days later the owner said the dog was much sicker and we couldn’t adopt. Next day the dog was reposted for adoption. That’s called FRAUD.

This is a terrible place to adopt from! I have had terrible communication from this place! After almost 3 weeks of trying to adopt a kitten I get a call that I’m chosen for the adoption. They thankful let me come and get the cat on thanksgiving, after speaking with the manager. I also left a voicemail regarding the disappointment of their communication skills. I take the kitten home whom now has been sneezing since 11-25-20. I contact the facility regarding my concerns, the person I spoke with tells me to take the cat to my vet. Shouldn’t this facility be responsible for the health of this cat for 30 days of my adoption? That’s what other places policy’s are that I’ve adopted from before. I’m truly disappointed in this facility and I hope that some how they make much needed changes to better serve all the these animals! I spoke with the vet whom brushed me off by telling me to take the cat to my vet even though I just spent $80 dollars on adopting a sick kitten!

On Friday (3/8) afternoon, I went to the shelter to see a puppy named Cisco. Upon arrival, I speak to Susie and explain my situation. We are looking for a companion for our dog, Luna, who we believe was used as a bait dog and who struggles with loneliness and anxiety. She needs a dog friend.Didnt hide Lunas history, I showed photos to Susie which showed her lack of fur and scarred appearance. Susie agreed Cisco would be a great option for us because of his calm and easy going nature. I asked if we could bring Luna in the following morning to meet with Cisco. She agreed enthusiastically.Next morning, I find a woman, explain what I discussed with Susie. I asked if we could do the meet and greet in the front office in the waiting room due to our dog being previously abandoned. We were denied. They bring Cisco out and as soon as the first woman saw our dog all of her walls went up.We are completely fine with questions regarding our dog. They are understandable. We are happy to answer questions and provide examples if need be. We also get needing to protect your dogs and needing to be on your guard. Please note: Luna is mainly ignoring the puppy and not once did she show any aggression. She begins to imply our dog may bite the puppy because Luna is working hard to get away from it by going behind my husband. We tell her thats never happened and we have a firm handle on her regardless. Despite this, for the next 30 minutes we continue to hear about how we just never know and about how our dog has the potential to be violent. I wonder if theyd do that if it was a scared up lab or gold retriever? I doubt it.Another woman wouldnt stop glaring at Luna and even had the audacity to ask if Luna had ever even been AROUND puppies?! in a hateful, short, accusatory voice while looking at Luna like shes a monster. Luna had puppies herself. As soon as they saw Luna, they made their decision on our approval status and they made it very clear.During the whole meet and greet, She told multiple stories to try prove we just never know because she lacked the social grace to realize enough was enough (even after we expressed our frustration at her continuous accusations). She even told a story about how she found out her sweet dog was racist. Dogs reflect the prejudices of their owners so we found that interesting. She even used a story regarding a dog thatd been clearly over bred to make a point that Luna could suddenly attack. It was unbelievable. The lack of social intelligence was staggering. We get the concern, but they made it clear they believed us naive and it was only a matter of time before Luna snapped. They acted like we were horrible for wanting to get Luna a companion. Like we would endanger a puppy for the sake our own desires. They vibes made the whole thing awkward and awful. Dogs can sense that so of course Luna was afraid. I would be too if I had two women looking at me like that.I expressed my concerns regarding their behavior. I was met with even more apathy and empty apologies. We left and found a perfect puppy at the Humane Society of Sumner County. The people there were incredible and kind. This was our first experience with our sweet Luna being looked at like she was a monster. Everyone who knows her loves her.Place was also in horrible shape including the vet area. Cisco was caked in mud upon arrival in the morning meaning he probably slept that way. I hope he gets a great home. Please see attached photos of new puppy (Remus) and our dangerous Luna - one photo is her and a tripod cat whose her bestie. To the person who may respond to this, please, dont passive aggressively state that you are just trying to keep dogs safe. We get that. That doesnt inhibit you from having some level of social intelligence, professionalism, and/or the ability to listen.Thank you, Susie, for your kindness on Friday. Shame on the restUpdate: as expected Luna (the safety concern/liability *sarcasm*) and Remus (puppy we got from Sumner Humane Society) are absolute best friends.

I tried to adopt a dog from here and it was the absolute worst experience. They don’t let you look at the dogs and they had us stand outside before they moved us to wait in the break room and finally moved us to a waiting room to meet the dog. The dog we wanted was extremely dirty and they said they keep him in a crate for 12+ hours everyday away from the other dogs. They said we would hear back in a couple of days, after a week or so I called everyday for almost a week with still no answers. We were so excited to rescue a dog but this was the worst experience. If we weren’t going to be approved, they easily could’ve said that when I called. Instead when we were waiting all day to receive a call from them, we saw on Facebook he was adopted.

Poor communication. After learning that our current terrier has cancer, my girls and I decided to adopt another dog so ours could have time with him and we could have a dog to help mourn our Ill dog.We found the SPA shelter online via Petfinder and found a dog to consider. We visited the figure and returned a set up a meet and greet with the two.We submitted s completed application and after a meet and greet, and after my 9 and 11 years olds and I was told would get call ... We didnt. Finally I called (as the kids were really hoping), and was told the dog was already adopted to someone else.Of course the girls and I were very disappointed.I spoke with the director and was told a dozen ways that she not responsible to call me. And evidently, when SPA called our vet, she was told our current dog had not had vaccination since 2017.This is not accurate, our dog has a current rabies tag and license on her collar and at the meet and greet the worker saw it. And our vet would not tell a lie.In hindsight,. Whole place seems clique.I would not recommend this place to anyone with hopeful kids or any one who sincerely wants a pet without a bunch of runaround.

We were prepared to adopt from here the puppy was 12 weeks....but these people lie to make you decide quickly. They told us that several families had applied for this puppy and that they would choose the best home for him. Even told us the day we were there that we were the 3rd visitor for this guy and that he was very popular. Said it would take a week to two weeks before adoption. We left there thinking we wouldnt get him and started looking for puppies. They called us 2days later to say we were approved we were going to get him and said we would, but had already found a puppy that was in desperate need for a home and figured since so many had applied for the puppy there that it would be a win win and both would have a home. Come to find out more than 2 weeks later that little fellow is still there...what happened to all the people that wanted him? Maybe if they wouldnt tell people that stuff and make them feel discouraged that they want get them, we would have not looked any further.

We went to eat and came back and were told to wait outside. We saw other people going to the back of the building and followed them. Heard one of the workers tell us that you could see pictures of the dog, but could not see the dog in person. After driving 40 minutes, we had to turn around and go back home. Based off a great majority of these reviews, I apparently am not alone in being neglected the basic dignity and respect of decent business practices when you have customers/prospects waiting for a result of an application. I visited approximately four weeks ago and immediately submitted an application. I chose two babies that I wanted to adopt; Called several times after the two week waiting period I was initially asked to await determination. I explained that I am a veteran looking for an alternative to a service dog due to employability. By my fourth call, the lady seemed to have an attitude over the phone and ‘promised’ a call back after lunch-that was three weeks ago.

S.P.A. is incredible. We live on a fixed income so with keeping our bills paid being difficult enough you can imagine the stress we faced when our kitty Mia developed a skin infection we needed an affordable place to take her. After calling around and having no luck, we were referred to Safe Place for Animals. The receptionist was extremely polite and courteous to us and made us a prompt appointment for her to be seen. When we arrived we were greeted with smiles. They got us back into an exam room immediately. Within just a couple minutes Dr. J came in and examined our fur baby and discussed payment which they were very accommodating and they were very affordable. Turns out mia only needed a shot of steroids and antibiotics along with a rabies vaccination. Its now been a week and Mias already back to her playful loving self. Her skin has already cleared up and is mostly healed as well as her fur is already filling back in. S.P.A. will now be our preferred treatment facility and I HIGHLY recommend them for all your furbabies healthcare needs.

Safe place for animals cares a great deal for their rescues. They make efforts towards training, socializing, and they are very careful about having each animal adopted to a family that is the right fit. That being said, its hard to understand what they could possibly want from a potential adopter if they wouldnt let myself and my family adopt from them. They also need to work on their professionalism and communication. I lost my 15 year old dog a few months ago and my husband and myself have had dogs for as long as weve been together, nearly 10 years. We take excellent care of our animals and care for them as part of the family. the only drawback to our situation is that we do not have a fenced in yard, but SPA knew that and recommended certain animals anyway. It was never a deal breaker. I visited SPA on several occasions to make a careful and deliberate choice about the animal that i wanted to adopt. My final visit i took my son to meet the animal i was most interested in adopting. We were told very kindly, by mary ellen who is wonderful, that we could not see the animal and that the owner would call us later. Its been over a month and i never heard a word. It seems at the very least they would communicate what problems they had with our situation that we were not going to be able to adopt from them.

My wife stopped by the next day to check in and was given the runaround. I call again two days later, told my application still hasn’t been reviewed and that they will call me back by end of day. Call never came.Be mindful if you plan on donating to this place as they clearly do not mind wasting the money they have been donated. To Managment, whoever that my be. You are being wasteful of your resources and only losing yourself future funding. Someone really needs to be working on improving the management of this business as not many animal shelters have poor reviews and this one does, that should tell people something.Sorry for the long review, just wanted future people to know you will waste a lot of time sitting around for this place to “get back to you”.

I love safe place for animals. They have always put their animals first, and been great when I take my dogs & cats in to be seen. Dr. J is great! They are very busy so I get that they aren’t always as friendly as other people in these reviews would like but they have your dog as well as 40+ in the back and prob double that of cats. All of these reviews mentioning you can’t go in the back to see the other dogs because they “bark” yes, dogs bark, but that’s the dogs space, they bark, they get worked up, they have more accidents, I never minded having to wait to have the dog I was interested in come meet me outside. The cats you can go in and love on and they love it! The staff has always done their best to try to help everyone and keep doing their job at the same time. They know their dogs and if you know what your looking for they do a great job letting you know if they have a dog that would fit in our family, exsp Ana.I love going in for my monthly heart worm medicine for my babies and seeing everyone and stopping in and seeing the cats and little dogs up front. I feel like everyone just expects to walk in an adopt a dog and leave right then with one. Anytime I’ve adopted an animal it takes a process, they make sure the animal is going to the right home for it. Everyone that’s upset over that just needs to respect they are doing this for the animals and not everyone tells the truth when trying to get what they want. SPA does a great job finding those animals forever homes and it shows when we hear back from those families.Thank you so much for what you do SPA!

I found the sweetest fur baby at work one day. He was very ill. The SPA staff were very helpful when I called and explained the situation. They saw him the same day. The cost for visit and meds were very affordable. I had to return with him several times since this sweet baby was obviously not provided adequate & timely care by previous owners. The staff were wonderful and supportive through this heartbreaking experience. They stayed after business hours to see us. They kept the bill very minimal, even waiving some of the med & visit charges. They went above and beyond to help save this sweet pup. Unfortunately, he ended up passing away 10 days after I found him. Even after learning that he passed, the staff reached out to me, providing support and reassurance. I am so grateful for these people who work so hard to create a place for people, like me, to take sweet fur babies, like that sweet boy, to get the care and attention they are so worthy of. We were told we were the first ones to put in an app on the dog as they had just received it. They are supposed to call your references and the vet to check you out. They never called either reference or the vet and have someone else the dog. I guess it just boils down to who you know there, not the application process. We were also told if we were turned down we would be notified. When I asked Anna the kennel mgr about that she said that she couldn’t call that many people. I thought that was her job. If you can’t do that you need to say that up front. Don’t make statements you can’t follow through on. Very disappointed.

Extremely unhelpful. First, I walked in and didn’t see anyone, so I started looking at the dogs. Then someone comes out and tells me I have to move into a room away from the animals. I was given a binder with pictures of the dogs instead, so I picked out 3 dogs to see. When I asked a worker to see the dogs I was then immediately told I couldn’t even see the dog. So I asked for the dog Apollo, and a worker said they would bring him to us shortly. After waiting for a half hour and multiple excuses for the wait, I get to see the dog. I loved him, he was great so I filled out an application and was told I would receive a call in 2-3 days. After 3 days went by I called, just to find out that the “director” wasn’t in and I wouldn’t receive a call for another week. I wish I would’ve read these reviews before my husband and myself went to look at their adoptable pets. The staff seemed ok at first, got worse as it progressed. We were not allowed to go look at all the available adoptable dogs, but were told to look through their adoption book. I asked why we could not go to actually see each dog in person and the employee said “because all the dogs back there will go nuts and bark.” Um really??? Obviously dogs bark. Honestly the dumbest remark I have ever heard from any animal organization. We finally were able to see two puppies we liked, but the employee would not back off. We never got alone time for even a second with either puppy. We did really fall in love with one of the puppies, and the employee gave us an application (no pen, no clipboard) and told us that if we fill it out we will hear back in 2-3 days... which honestly is ridiculous. I have owned dogs my entire life, so has my husband, we have a dog and a cat currently which are in perfect health. We have no children and treat our animals amazingly. Any pet we ever own becomes a family member and is treated like such. This place is truly a disappointment and should realize that there are people other than themselves, capable of treating pets the proper way.

So I know some people have had great experiences at this shelter. I didnt give the shelter a one start because I truly believe they care about the animals, and my experience wasnt horrendous, but my family is just a bit heartbroken. We went there, the girl who introduced us to the dog we liked (the dogs name was Glock) was super nice. I wanted to swoop up that precious dog and take him that day, but we were told no same day adoptions. Thats ok, I understand that. We had to fill out an application. Ok, thats reasonable. Then it started getting red flag like. Vet records for all pets in the past 5 years, wanting to conduct home visits, requiring knit picky things. Ok sure. My outside dog was not up to date on his shots, I told them I could get him into the vet ASAP to fix that. I denied a home visit on the application, I just dont feel comfortable with people in my home that I dont know examining everything (during COVID no less). I was told 3 to 5 business days, then wed get an answer. On the 5th day I called them because they had not called my references. The lady on the phone told me the lady who did paperwork wasnt working that day, that I could call tomorrow, that she had not heard about any decisions or news yet for Glock. That gave me a little hope that maybe his paperwork was just taking a little longer.I couldnt call and check up the next morning, I was busy, but I just had a bad feeling. I got another dog offer for a sweet dog who needed rehoming (not from this shelter). I almost passed over the opportunity because our family was excited about Glock. Thankfully, my gut was still sending me bad messages about the shelter, so I went with the other dog.I found out they choose a different family for Glock, we were never notified. We found out about it on their Facebook page. Dont get me wrong, Im super happy for the people who got to adopt him, and Im super happy for Glock. I just wish they would improve their system a little more, so our hearts wouldnt have been played with. We really did fall in love with the doggy.Im pretty sure they didnt even consider us seriously sense they had not called anyone on the paperwork, so I wish they would have been honest with us, given us a call early on and said something like Im sorry, we feel Glock would be more comfortable in a (insert better family type) environment, and we are considering a different family type at this time. All in all, Im glad it didnt work out, because then we wouldnt have our sweet 5-year-old Paulo puppy. But if you are thinking about adopting, I dont recommend going here unless you are prepared to:1) not take the animal home same day,2) fill out detailed paperwork (that also has some terms and conditions that allow them to take the animal back)3) go through everything, wait, and still not get approved

I used to go when they were in the old location. I went to the new location in the beginning of June, needing to save a little money. They really dont seem to have their act together and Dr. Jacobs is not very friendly towards people or their animals. The woman doctor is a lot better and definitely more caring to peoples pets. This place still has a sad/weird vibe, just like the old place.

We got our pit/frenchie mix from SPA over 5 years ago. They took him in at age 3 months and he remained there until 13 months. In his 10 months spent with them, he was trained into the most well-behaved, obedient, fun-loving dog, weve ever had the pleasure of loving! We cant thank this crew enough for all the hard work and long hours they put into training these babies so they never have to see the inside of a shelter again!

Had to take our pup in for anal gland issues. The vet was amazing! Gave me so much information and was probably one of the most gentle and nicest people I have ever met. They are extremely affordable. I love this place. We will definitely be back and will be donating in the future to help them out however possible.

Got a lot to say. December 29, 2016 We were greeted kindly by the front desk and we had asked to see a dog. They sent us to a room and they brought in this cute dog. We fell in love with the dog an they told us it would take 34 days for the application to be reviewed. We filled out the application. They told us to give them a call in a few days to see if the dog was ready to be adopted. We gave them a ton of calls and barely got a response. One day, we called and they had told us to get the fence before they come for a visit. They had also said that they would give us a call to ask if we were ready. Since then, no call came in from them. March 6, 2017 we had looked on the website and the dog we had waited for two months, was not on the website. Two days later we had called them and they said that the dog was gone. My family was looking forward to adopting that dog and they had ruined our dreams of adopting a dog. I really hope they get some help because if they dont, they will get out of business pretty soon. In my opinion they are just p******.

I’m trying to regime a dog due to life changes. We went from a large home to a small one. He’s a good dog but high energy dog and our home no longer suits him. I felt it’s unfair to him to keep him in a small place where he can’t exert his energy. I called for help and was immediately judged and the lady made assumptions of our ability to care for him. I thought these people were there to help. I’m willing to pay any money necessary and help in any way. But the lady didn’t even let me get that far. We have not only donated to this place but used the vet and groomers. I will no longer give support to a facility that treats people badly who are trying to do the right thing. After talking with people around Gallatin in the animal world, they also felt the same way about the SPA. They also voiced concerns about the women who work there and answer the phones. I just wonder how many animals have suffered because of their inability to communicate. It is in your best interest and best interest of the animal to talk to any and every other rescue before reaching out to this one. Are the advocates for those in need...absolutley not.

I read ALL the reviews. However, Safe Place for Animals and their staff deserve nothing but 5 stars!!! With the entire process- from the first phone call to bringing home our new pup, we were given nothing but the best customer service. The facility is clean. The animals are well taken care of. The staff is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and considerate. If your ready to adopt a new pet make sure you give them the chance or you might miss out on your new family member!! Thank you all again!!

Animals are not easy to care for when you multiply them. So many bad reviews from people who have-only one dog or one cat maybe more. Or none. But a facility with 120 at best? Try that. Not to mention this is voluntary work. And your level of commitment will vary from day to day. Even trying to accomplish the kindest act day in day out. Any task that has that level of daily sanitation needs, I don’t care who you are wears on your performance and sanity. So if I were some of these prissy butterflies who just can’t see the big picture here. I’d pipe down and realize that you’d be overwhelmed at what life could be if you didn’t have a facility as this. And work more towards overcoming your tenderness or rudeness issues or just not having everything go your way. Im surprised at those who question people who roll up there sleeves for no pay, who try and save the few helpless animals they can. And spread it all over social media. Here’s an idea next time your boredom turns to trashing. Volunteer! And maybe then you’ll develop a professional view of what’s going on in the world and have less time showing all social media how Inhumanity disconnected you are.

Rescued a Persian cat recently with VERY matted fur. They took very good care of him and took their time with him to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. He also had a bad ear infection in both ears and they treated that with a care as well. They are very friendly and you could tell they actually care about the animals that they take care of.

We adopted our precious min pin Oskar (aka Alvin at the shelter) there five years ago and have enjoyed his companionship ever since. He is not without his quirks, to be expected with a rescue who had a hard life up until joining our family. But he was well taken care of at SPA and in good health. I can only imagine that the negative reviews from some are due to being rejected for adoption. I applaud SPA for their rigorous adoption process. If you are not suited to provide a good home for an animal, you dont deserve to adopt. Get over it and realize its best for the animal to go to a family better suited to take care of it than yours.

Safe Place for Animals is a great shelter for animals waiting on their forever homes. I know that there are some bad reviews, but please know that the folks that work with the animals genuinely love and care for the animals. But, they are VERY busy with the day to day maintenance such as feeding, walking, and cleaning. Caring for the animals is a 24/7 job. They do accept and welcome volunteers, so maybe we can spread the word and get some more help! They also have a Facebook page where you can view some of their adoptable pets.

Weve always had excellent care from the vets at SPA. I have taken our cats and dogs here for several years now. The prices are extremely reasonable, too. I have never adopted an animal from them, so I cannot comment on that process. Otherwise, I do not understand why people have not given them better reviews? I think this place is top notch! 🐶🐱

We went to see the cats last Saturday. The cats are clean and well cared for. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. We spent about two hours filling out application and just observing the cats. Our application was approved on Monday and I went back on Tuesday and picked out our cat Dara. Picked her up today with full vet record, chip info and flea medication. We are very pleased with our decision to adopt from Safe Place for Animals. I implore people to remember there are cats out there that need homes also these people survive on donations.

Wonderful place for an adoption of a dog or cat!!!! The folks here show care and compassion for the animals! Most (if not all) of the animals available for adoption have been through some rough times and it is so rewarding to see the folks and the volunteers care for these furry friends. For those who say you have to jump through hoops to adopt, know that these folks care for the pets and only want the best for them. If you love these pets and you will fall on love with at let one of them there, fill out the application and be honest with these people. They want you AND the pet to have a happy relationship. There are too many horror stories in todays news of pets being abused or sold for food or fighting. The people at Safe Place for Animals are so nice and care for their little friends while they are there!

They had a LOT of cats that needed homes and we were delighted to try and adopt one. We knew the one we wanted the minute we got there when it came up to us and jump in our lap and snuggled up. We even went back a second time to let my husband meet her. The lady at the desk wasnt very personable and I felt like we were in her way while we were there. But most of the staff, especially Seth were very nice. The real issue came when we went to actually adopt this kitty. We left our application on Sunday, only to be told that if we dont hear from them by Wednesday, call them. I thought that sounded off, because I would expect them to call me. Wednesday came and no call. We called numerous times and were told to call back an hour later. Called an hour later and were told to call back 20 minutes later. Call back and they are closed. Called the next day and they asked us to call one of their cell phones only to be told to call the center later. We called and we called and no one ever gave us an answer. We were given the run around for days. We were just trying to get a status on our application. We gave up. It is sad because that sweet kitty is still there when it could be in a loving home. They have never called us to this day about our application.

The facility is clean and the animals are well cared for. My children and I turned in an application for a little dog which had been there at least 4 weeks. I was told to call in a few days if I hadnt heard anything. I did - my application wasnt reviewed yet. I waited 2 more days (while my children got so excited over the possibility of getting a sweet dog.) On my 2nd call to the facility they said that 5 other families had put in applications for that same dog; therefore, she was adopted by someone else. This saddened my children and irritated me. When I turned my application in (with 3 children standing next to me) I could have been told that there were several families ahead of ours and the chance of getting this dog was very small. As a parent, I could have explained this to my children and not gotten their hopes up. I highly recommend the staff PAY one person whose job it is to interact with the public regarding the applications - you may love animals, but it doesnt mean youre good with people.

This is not a place that I would ever recommend to have a person or family go to. I was introduced to this shelter at an adoption event last weekend (Sept. 13-14, 2014). They had a litter of puppies there for adoption from their shelter. I fell in love with one of them, and filled out all of the paperwork on the spot. I was told (first time ever) that they do not and will not have any same day adoptions. I asked the man that was there on behalf of the shelter when should I be hearing back from them in regards to the adoption; he said within a couple of days (Tuesday), but if I have not heard anything to call them to see what the progress was. I called on Monday to see if there was any update, because of my work schedule for this week was all of the place. I was told no there was no update, but I should hear something back by the end of the day. 4:00PM CST came and went, and I never heard anything. I called on Tuesday and was told the exact same thing, but this time I called before they closed, and was told that they didnt know who the one was going to be. My boyfriend call on Wednesday because he was going to surprise me if he was able to pick her up that afternoon. He called me and said that the woman who was over seeing the adoption paperwork seemed to be extremely annoyed with the fact he was calling and asking for an update.Well here we are on Friday September 19th - one day shy of being a full week since I filled out the paperwork. I call before 3:00PM to see if there was any update, the lady never asked for my name was extremely short with me and said that all puppies have been adopted and all final phone calls have been made. Mind you I never received a phone call to notify me that I was not a fit for this animal nor did anyone call for any follow up questions or a home visit as it stated on the paperwork I was fine to accommodate this process for the adoption application.I have never been more upset and heartbroken over the way I was treated by any organization.I was always under the assumption that when dealing with a shelter, that they were there to provide assistance to find an animal their forever home and to make sure that they were well taken care of in the mean time. If you have someone who has taken time out of the day to contact you for updates regarding the adoption, I am almost more than positive they are not going to be a puppy flipper or that the animal would find its way back to the shelter. This experience has truly made me lose all faith in the adoption/rescue process of all animals. I understand that this is not always the case, but this is completely and totally unacceptable.
