I asked for distressed butterfly locs and they gave me regular locs which I did not ask for and they are not mid back length. The first picture is what I asked for, the second picture is what I got and the third picture my hair is unraveling after one day. I usually don’t do post. But this was a horrible experience. I asked for a refund and the owner stated we don’t do refunds. I asked if she could fix it, she stated they can’t. She does not value her customers at all. After just 1 day my hair started unraveling.

I arrived and there was no wait! The prices are standard and they were fast! Large box braids took 2.5 hours and 30 minutes to finish. I would definitely return.

Ive been here about 5 times for myself and my daughters. I go to the Montgomery Village location which is great. Bernadette does a great job each time! The place is clean, they are friendly and accommodating.

I started going to this shop a year ago and love it there! Everyone is so nice and very professional. Had a mishap with pricing but now I understand how they charge you. Fatu recently did my hair and I love it! Ive been getting a lot of compliments and could not be happier. I highly recommend this shop.

I would give it 0 stars if possible. This salon is a hit or miss!!! I asked for medium knotless braids & got the absolute smallest braids possible! The braiding was painful and the tension on my hair was bad! Knotless braids are suppose to be pain free & tension free. Braids were super tight & some had knots!! Had a terrible headache that turned into a migraine. Took the braids out the very next day. Asked for my money back & the braider gave me the owner’s number. Owner ignored me & left me on read. Wouldn’t recommend. Don’t let the pictures they post fool you, not all the braiders are skilled!! Not worth it.

Poor quality work. Poor business ethic. Lied about a “posted”no refund policy - then stated it’s posting location happened to be in a salon I did not have my service provided at. Payment option was sketchy. Technician would not swipe my visa- but instead requested Transfer via Zelle to phone number not associated with business. Owner offered to only fix half of daughters hair, and upon refund request- only offered to return TIP. Spent seven hours in the chair for poor quality braids that were so tight and heavy my daughter (not new to these styles) cut them out in order to relieve the tension. My concerns were stated up front and throughout the entire service. Technician laughed consistently at my requests during service. Inspirational photos were provided. They were photos of my daughters hair from previous service provided by this salon. Was completely obvious that service was rushed and not professional looking. This is unfortunate as we have been clients for years, have sent many many referrals and will no longer be able to do either. Owner of salon is unbothered by client dissatisfaction. In my opinion, this is a case of theft. Filed complaint with BBB, considering small claims, will follow up with state board, and will continue posting negative reviews on available outlets.

2 stars because my knotless braids were neat and i was in and out in 3 hours HOWEVER the lady that was “trimming the flyaways” actually cut a few of my braids and my real hair was EXTREMELY choppy when i took them out and the owner admitted that that wasn’t uncommon and heard of that happening before and refused to give me a refund but offered to re-braid my hair like i would ever be returning there!

I’ve gotten my hair done a few times by this hair salon. I love how they’ve turned out! Even though they are really pricey, the styles last for 8-10 weeks! Also, there’s always a wait time even with an appointment— which is really strange since they have so many stylists in store.

I’ve never been to a braiding shop where I was in and out In a reasonable time. The ladies working on my hair were very sweet and accommodating. I look forward to supporting them again. Also, me hair is done very neatly!

I have been there twice now to get my hair done, I use to go to a shop in Germantown but they started to make me feel like I owed them my business. I really like how nice everyone was everyone is willing to help you with no hesitation!! A bonus is when they braid your hair it’s not to tight that you start getting bumps in your head. This is my GO-TO place for anything braids! The job is always well-done regardless of who handles your hair and regardless of what style. I have done everything from classic Jumbo box braids to trendy Fulani cornrows! I would recommend them any day! Plus they are open 7 days a week and almost always welcome walk-ins. Hint: Bring a picture of your style and confirm price before starting.

Local, very clean and Fast service. The service is fast because normally its at least two people working on your head. The draw back to this is that you may get one person that does a great job on your head and then she floats to another person and you end up with a new chick that has an attitude and doesnt care. I have been going to Uniq for many years and for the most part they have been consistent but the last three visits the quality of work is starting to diminish. What I would say to the owner is Dont let complacency set in. In order to keep your clientele your service needs to be consistent as well as your prices. Your employees needs to have the same ethics as you and value the customers. If not, your business will suffer.

Totally disagree with the reviews. Customer service was horrible. You walk in and have no clue where to go or who to talk to. Majority of the staff don’t speak English. Told me one price on the phone and then another price at the end of my service.The person that did my hair clearly didn’t know about hair but only how to add hair for braids, twist, etc. My hair didn’t need to be blowed out and the hair I had was unique to what they were used to. They made a simple style super complicated. Asked for jumbo twists (showed picture) and came out with small passion twists.The girl next to me Had awesome results but I would personally never go back. My twists were so uneven and several people were shocked that I went to “professionals.” I could have done a much better job. They need to study hair and different styles and textures to be better versed for their clientele. I had to teach them when they should have been teaching me.

This place came highly recommended from one of my best friends. My birthday is in a couple weeks and I had been looking forward to getting my hair done. I made the appointment and asked for medium knotless braids. She assured me again for the price they would be medium.As the technician starts my hair i feel the braids and i can feel knots and the braids are smaller than i had imagined. I asked and she reassured me that she knew what i wanted. A few rows in, i bring it up again and Im told not to worry. We reach the front of my head and i see the parts on my edges tiny and being pulled so tight. * full disclosure i have low/medium density fine hair and lupus which is why i requested medium knotless*The look is completed and i look closer into the mirror to see super tight and very obvious small box braids. When i went to the register the technician hid and another woman checked me out and was very defensive. They swore to me that I had knotless then when i kept showing pictures of what i showed the tech, she started to say well theyre not the same size but theyre knotless and swore that i had received knotless and should pay full price.I got home only to look closer and they were indeed super tight small box braids with knots that had entangled pieces of my hair across many braids. So not only did i not get the style i asked for, my hair is being damaged and suffering. I have to snip and break off the woven pieces from un neat parting & pray that i have any hair left on the front.I was offered a redo in 3 days, why would i let someone else do my hair again when i wasnt respected the first time. Its unfair to expect me to take out tiny braids i didnt ask for, find childcare for my children again & sit for another 5 hours to hope that i get the results i asked for. Absolutely not. I do not recommend this hair salon to anyone they are so deceiving. I went in to get small box braids, when the lady showed me the size the braids will be I was satisfied. Another stylist came to work on the back of my hair when I notice she was making the parts of the braids much bigger I asked them was the parts the same size in the front and the back they pretty much ignored me. I then proceeded to go look at them myself and seen the parts were way larger. I talked to the manager because that is unacceptable and she told me they do it like that because my hair will be full if not and I told her I want them all the same Im not paying $180 for different size braids. Long story short the lady started parting the back a slight bit smaller in the back but only redid 3 of the original ones over. They try to get over on people to make they job easier. Coming from NYC Ive never experienced nothing like that. Everyone that came in there they did the same thing to. I came to the salon for a professional job and it wasnt very professional. Hi my name is Envy Love. Ive been going to Uniq now for over 8 months. I love the staff there and they are very nice. Belinda is the one who do my hair. Never once has a problem with my hair nor service. Whoever, said that their service is not up to par, is full of it. Even the owner has excellent customer service. I recommend anyone whos wants their hair braided to go to Uniq. My hair last at least 3-4 months.

Angela was gentle on the scalp. I can see myself going again.Although, I will say, I feel a little uncomfortable when business providers speak in their language, and I dont know what is being said. Are they speaking about me? Are they speaking about my kind? You know?

The have some amazing braiders but their customer service is not good. I sat there for 30 minutes after I signed and told them the style we wanted and no one addressed us. I was told that someone who does corn rows would be there at 8:00. Ive been there before and I know they do good work but it needs to be managed effectively and be respectful of their customers time.

This braiding salon do not get any stars from me but I couldnt post this notice without checking one star !!!! I went to get my hair braided last Friday. I arrived to the appointment at 3:45 pm and my Senegalese Braids was done at 6:45pm. I never seen this stylist before and I don’t even know if she is even licensed therefore I asked and was told yes for a long time. On Monday I noticed 3 braids sliding off my hair. I immediately contacted the owner Sitou to inform her of my problem. I told her that my braids should not be coming because my natural hair is long. She told me to come back to have them fixed. I then told here that I really don’t have the time to keep on coming back and forth to have my braids repaired and that this was not professional business to ask a client to drive back and forth. So as the days passed I now have a total of 6 braids that has come out and I’m now very disappointed due to the fact that I paid $180.00 for braids that is not going to last me the full 2 to 3 months as I was told. Saturday August 13, 2016 I contacted the owner once again to see if she would be willing to give me back half of the money I’ve paid and all she can say is that she’s sorry and there is a sign on the door stating no refunds. I told her that this wasn’t acceptable or good business and that I will seek legal action against her. Please be aware of this business….

For the second time now we had to leave this salon without our daughters hair done. First time they were too rough and not paying any attention to making it easier. This time we called for an appointment (I believe with the owner). After waiting for 30 min, we were told that she is not coming and no one else cos do her hair.Not ever going back.

I have been going here every few months for the past 3 years. This review may go unnoticed but it still needs to be said and I need to get it off of my chest.I will start by saying, the quality of how they do hair (particular individual braids in my experience) is good and is usually fairly quick since they have at least 2 people working on you at once. However, they have a huge problem with their employees just walking away from your head while they were working on you. Its not always that theyre going to help someone else really quickly, or even like a quick 1 or 2 minute break. No, it is without saying anything, without warning, numerous employees of theirs will just walk away and wont come back for sometimes up to 10 minutes! Youre just left sitting there. Its not just once either, in my time being a customer, every time I get my hair braided, its at least 4-7 times per session that they will just stop. Sometimes you see them on the phone talking or texting. I get we all have things we need to take care of, but at least a little warning? Especially when were already going to be sitting there for 3-4 hours getting braids. Though this past time took 5 because my hairdresser stepped away approximately 7 or 8 times for prolonged periods.They also sometimes do not start on you right away. I would understand if it was peak hours, theyre a little backlogged, but no. This is when you are the first appointment of the day, there is no one in the shop and your appointment is at 7AM, they may not start until 7:30AM. If your appointment is at 8AM, they may not start until 8:30 or later. That sort of defeats the purpose of the appointment, especially when you have somewhere to be.Then recently, their cash register is down. I understand that maybe it was a problem with their provider. However, no one ever informed me of this being the problem. They have you pay once your hair is done so of course I never thought to bring up payment since I assumed everything was as normal. Then when I try to pay they then inform me I need a cash app because the machine is down. I then had to withdraw money from an ATM which charged me. Upon returning to pay them, I asked if the money I was charged could go towards a discount for my next hair appointment (were talking $2.50 here, so very minor). The owner looks at me and says You want the 2 dollars? Here. Went over to her bag pulled out two dollars and handed it to me without even looking at me. One her way to her bag one of her employees (the one that went with me to the gas station) said something in another language right after the owner made her stated comment to me. The owner huffed and with a very slight attitude repeated the phrase. Of course I cannot say for sure, but it wouldnt take a genius to know that they were commenting on me.There was a time about a year ago I literally came back across town (about a 20 minute drive) to pay them back a dollar. A single dollar. That they had let slide. They have my information, they know my face, they have my name, number, card information Im sure. I wouldnt be cheating them out of what was due to them. I have gone to them about every 3 to 4 months for 3 YEARS. They were the only place I felt comfortable getting my hair done....now all this.In the beginning I was so satisfied with UniqBraids and the work that they do. However, it just...doesnt seem worth it anymore. if they cant value and trust a long time customer, then I think I am just going to have to find another place.I hope others experience them much better. I have even had better experiences! It was great in the beginning! However, after a certain point and just feeling so disrespected at the end of the day, I just have to wonder if its worth going back or finding another salon.So all the best to their business, future endeavors, and future customers. They wont go broke or out of business because I may no longer return, however, I dont think theyll be getting any richer off of me. At least not any time soon.

Today is Mothers Day and I wanted to get my hair braided before meeting my family for lunch at 2pm. My appointment was for 11:30 a.m. I got there at exactly 11:30. I had the picture of the style I wanted and I knew it shouldnt take any longer than an hour and fifteen minutes max because I only wanted 7 braids. So, as the stylist was braided my hair i was getting a little worried because it wasnt looking like the picture.I asked her if she needed to glance at the picture again because it wasnt looking correct. She asked me if I liked it and I said NO! Another stylist comes over, looks at the picture, speaks to my stylist and she took one braid out. Then she parted my hair and started braided again and it STILL wasnt correct. I told her dont worry about it. I started taking the braids out. The same stylist came over and asked me if I wanted someone else to do my hair. I told her NO. I had already been in the shop from 11:30 - 1pm and I had plans.I will never ever ever go back to this shop again. It was my first time trying it.

I went to the establishment to get my daughter hairs braided. We have a different hair type but most types of hair can be braided. When I asked if they could braid my 3 year old daughter hair they said no shes to small and blankly started at us. I do not recommend going, it is a unprofessional environment!

First and foremost Ive been going to this hair braiding salon for over I believe going on two years now. NO they dont NOT overcharge ! the braids last more then 3 months and that is with you the customer treating your braiding with care. theyre price range is reasonable meaning you pay for the length and not only that they provide the hair for you. absolutely never had an issue with any of the ladies that work there. they do accept walk-ins. with the thick hair I have Im only in the chair for 3-4 hours. please DO NOT let others reviews discourage you from trying these ladies out !!!

Overall experience was acceptable. However, the lack of communication could have been better. Braiders constantly switched while performing service. Im not a fan of having 3 different hands in my head during one session. End result was neat & polished. Price was competitive & reasonable for a salon.

This is was my first and last time visiting this Salon. While the braids were neat, they are very unprofessional and bias towards others who they think does not understand their language. Quoted one price over the phone and a different price in person. The braider then threw a fit because she didnt want to do it and begin to talk in her language which is a mix of french and her native tongue. I listened another braider told her she Josie is being unreasonable. They also were commenting and laughing about two other Americans in the salon. They need to learn decorum because you never know whose is in your chair. I would not recommend this Salon as their are many others who do well and respect their patrons. They also need to understand haircare as they were braiding a little girls hair too tight whose edges were already broken.

The owner Satu is a consummate professional & very good with & to children!. It is the only place my daughter & I get our hair braided.

I previously rated this higher however after several more visits Ive come to the conclusion that they are mediocre an over priced. Had crochet braids an I dont think the braider was familiar with crochet or maybe she didnt care. The braid patten was more complicated then needed for crochets. Next was she didnt separate the crochet braid hair which made my style super full which I didnt want an told her.Also she had huge knots along my hair line. The owner saw I wasnt happy but instead of making the braider fix it she continued with her client. So I fixed it at home an decided to not go back.

No appointment book. I was told one price beforehand, but on the day I came to get my hair done, I was told a different price. Not even two weeks after getting individuals my hair is frizzy.

This place is horrible!! I scheduled an appointment at 4:30pm and the owner didn’t even schedule me down. I drove an hour to this place just to be told they can’t take me because the lady left and I wasn’t scheduled. Unbelievable. I don’t recommend this place they are disrespectful!

This is the only braiding salon near my home. I often have no choice to go anywhere else, so because I more than likely will have to force myself to put up with the unprofessional environment Im leaving a comment. I hope the owners take it seriously. I got a perm here recently by a Jamaican young woman in the corner area of the salon. She was talking and gossiping so much about her friend getting her hair done on her wedding day by someone else that she messed up my perm. She literally permed my hair, washed it out in less than 20 minutes and then said the perm didnt take. Will duhhhhh, because youre so busy gossiping and turning around to talk to customers instead of focusing on perming my hair properly. It cost $100 for a perm that never took. I was livid, but paid anyway. I went back a second time and this time, I saw a lot of the same behaviors of the women. Going from one head to the next, without washing their hands. In fact, while getting my hair, done by the Jamaican woman a second time, she walked over to another woman getting her hair washed to help wash it out because her Assistant couldnt even wash out hair properly. I hadnt washed my hair in weeks, Id be livid if my hair was touching someone elses hair who was getting washed out. The enviroment is highly unprofessional, mainly because people arent washing their hands and going from one person to the next touching them. During my last visit this woman was eating chips with her hands, dusting it off on her pants and braiding. Many of them wear slippers and drag their feet. Kids running around. Theres this one lady who wears her hair out and always half done, and sloppy. Its just not the type of beauty salon I see myself going into ever again at this point. My last visit was just terrible. The Jamaican woman cannot even focus on one customer at a time with gossiping and sharing her health problems. The others, Africans, are always starring at you while getting your hair done, not sure if they know thats rude. Its just an uncomfortable and unprofessional environment.

Just moved to the area and needed to get my senegalese twist done, I called a few places and decided to go to this one b/c when I called over the phone they said it would take them 6 hours for $180. My appointment was at 8 got there at 7:40 and there were 2 braiders in the shop no other clients but me. I seen a few styles in the shop I liked but when I asked about them they could not answer my questions to I stuck with my twist.The stylist sat me in the chair and did not start my hair until 8:20 they were walking around, talking and I was just sitting. Which was annoying. Before they started I told them I want them pretty big they said okay needless to say I had them redo it 2 times and they still did not get it right so I said F it.I also explained to them that after I had my daughter my sides fell out so I wanted the sides done a certain way and with enough hair that they would not be thin, I had to keep correcting them and asking them to add more of my hair.As more people came into the shop the seconded stylist went to work on other people and would come back. After the first 4 hours I realized that there is no way they would be done in 6 hours so I asked her about how much longer b/c I have other things to do. She told another stylist to come help and she took her sweet time stopping to eat and talk- I found this very rude being as though you started my hair late, couldnt get the size right and lied about the amount of time it would take.The one stylist had an odd way of twisting where she would roll my hair into the wrist which was very uncomfortable and made them very tight thighter than usual.It took 7.5 hours for my hair to be complete I am not happy with the size they are small and I asked for them to be a lot bigger but again they did not seem to understand my request.The shop is very clean.I will be trying a few other shops before returning to this shop.
