My wife and I paid a visit to Ascent Audiology & Hearing and we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Paul Kuster and his staff of competent personnel. I came armed with lots of questions and he answered them all. I decided to purchase new set of Starkey hearing aids. I was totally impressed when he utilized “real ear measurements” a system that actually listens to what I was actually hearing. He then used that information to skillfully adjust the frequency bands to actually fit the waveform relative to my specific hearing loss. Dr. Kuster can improve your hearing and you will be satisfied.

I was having a problem with one of my hearing aids and called Ascent to see if they could help. I had never been a patient there but they had me stop by, took a look at the problem, sent it back to the manufacturer for service and returned it to me at no cost. The staff at Ascent is great. Was very pleased with my audiology evaluation today with Paul. I was seeking a second opinion on advice that I had marked hearing loss in my right ear that required a hearing aid. After my test today Paul did not agree, in fact he said my hearing was within normal limits for my age and did not attempt to sell me I product thankfully I do not need. If in the future I do need hearing aid products, you can bet I will return to the office where I was treated with kindness and total professionalism. Made my day!!

Ascent Audiology in Fredericksburg is the only place I will take my elderly mom for hearing aids. Dr. Paul Kuster is very skilled and personable. He makes his patients feel comfortable and is very good at explaining how to best improve their hearing. I took my mom to two other audiology places in the area before finding Ascent Audiology. Mother visiting, forgot domes, cant hear anything without hearing aids, and this place worked her in as a walk in, examined her ear to make sure there was nothing in the canal, obstructive, potential infection risk: and then stopped everything to search their samples to see if they had a sample that worked with her model (not one they carry)....... and then didnt charge her because they understand and consider the quality of life issues surrounding hearing, more important than the payment process. Dr. Paul is the best! I received a thorough hearing evaluation which included repeating words not just high and low beeps like before my first set of hearing aids a couple of years ago. He loves what he is doing and wanted to get the best hearing possible for me. My American-made Starkey hearing aids offer great features plus one replaces the remote I had to carry with my old aids. I was so pleased with Dr. Paul that I took my 88 year old Dad for an evaluation. He was “deaf in one ear and couldn’t hear out of the other.” Dr. Paul was able to find a window of hearing with a Starkey which has really helped him.

Dr. Paul Kuster made a huge difference in my quality of life nearly6 years ago with his audiologist knowledge, his doctors knowledge and personal care. Not only did he get me equipped with a great product after thorough analysis of my problem of hearing loss over the past 40 years, but his follow up checks and adjustments were a huge difference from my previous experiences with other audiologists and aides! AND then even after moving away to Pa I was ecstatic that he continued to support my needs, adjustments and minor technical issues. He (and Wendy_ should receive at least a 8 STAR for customer service , counsel and sticking with the customer!

Family is the word that comes to mind when I think of Dr. Kuster and his wonderful staff. I was first seen by Dr Kuster two years ago for what clinically was hearing loss. Dr. Kuster and his staff are great! I had spoken with several other hearing providers in this area. But none could or really wanted to help me with my bad hearing. I was born with a fractured skull and have never known what good hearing really is. But the folks at Ascent have always worked me in if I had a problem. After working in the Highway and Bridge construction industry for 40+ years my hearing had deteriorated. I received a warm welcome and was treated with respect and kindness. My experience with Dr. Kuster and his staff has been excellent. He fitted me with binaural hearing aids that are comfortable to wear and customized for my hearing loss. My loss is mild but interfers with understanding speech, especially in a group. The aids have been helpful in compensating for my high frequency loss and helping me participate in group conversations again. Service has been very good, too, which is important for peace of mind! If you have a hearing loss and are considering buying hearing aids, I highly recommend this audiologist.

I got a Christmas miracle! I have had tinnitus for over 40 years and hearing loss. I had gone to a few doctors over the years and they said nothing could be done. Dr. Kuster was outstanding! He tested my ears and the software he used showed the loss. I was fitted with hearing aids and can hear better then I have in so many years! The device also masks the high pitch ringing of tinnitus!! Dr. Kuster is amazing. My father has been going to him for years. I have been going with him lately as my father is starting to need some help. Although I had had my hearing tested for over 40 years as part of military, or retired military, physicals, all those tests were done by Navy corpsmen or technicians. So, now deep in the second half of my 60s, my recent visit to Ascent Audiology and exam by Dr. Paul Kuster was my first experience with a professional audiologist. And it was a truly great experience! Dr. Kuster was very thorough, doing a comprehensive ear exam and testing for hearing loss in a well-equipped sound booth. A very friendly and outgoing individual, the doctor made me feel completely at ease as he examined me and explained my results. Learning that my age-and-experiece-appropriate hearing loss at the high frequencies doesnt warrant prescribing hearing aids at this time was wonderful. (This means patients can be confident that this office is NOT going to push expensive solutions you dont need!) I plan to return yearly to continue monitoring my hearing... and I know I can do so with confidence that I will receive highly competent and friendly treatment. I am a veteran with very troublesome hearing loss. I also work in a variety of environments that demand different hearing needs. I have had difficulty getting my questions and needs taken care of by the Veterans Affairs. I visited Dr. Kuster to get some advice, get an outside of the VA hearing test as they said my hearing loss was not that bad and had not gotten worse and educate myself on my hearing loss. I was pleasantly amazed to find that I was not a number, I was not rushed and time and care was taken to meet my needs. Dr. Kuster is very knowledgeable, he cares about his patients and he has an easy going manner. I was impressed by the fact he was up to date on the newest technology and was very willing to work with my situation to meet my needs. I have never had that kind of service in a doctors office of any specialty. Although he obviously sells hearing aids, I never felt pressured at all to purchase anything from him. He took a lot of time with me to explain what I was dealing with and how hearing loss can be coped with. I would recommend Dr. Kuster to anyone, particularly veterans with hearing loss. His knowledge, the time he takes with patients and his willingness to listen to patients to serve them best are his top attributes.

Hearing with precision after many years was the goal. My story has many details however, this is not the article to discuss those details. After being retired for many years from serving in the military where I was exposed to extremely high noise environments my hearing had reached a point that hearing aids were warranted. The VA agreed that my hearing had reached a point that hearing aids were warranted, however, my loss of hearing could not be linked to my time of service, therefore, the hearing devices would not be provided by the VA and I was required to purchase them on my own. A friend introduced me to Doctor Paul Kuster of Ascent Audiology & Hearing in Fredericksburg, VA.Upon arriving at his office, I was warmly greeted by his competent staff. Doctor Kuster soon warmly introduced himself and conducted comprehensive hearing tests. Upon the conclusion of the tests hearing devices were recommended. We discussed that my hearing loss may be a factor causing me to struggle in certain situations to comprehend important information, impacting my cognitive processing and rendering accurate decisions. Realizing this would be a major investment and at my request, he presented a number of devices for my consideration. He provided Pro’s and Con’s on each presented device and then left the selection process that best fit my financial situation.After my purchase follows up appointments were scheduled to ensure the devices were working as designed and to investigate any hearing related problems. Doctor Kuster was interested in my opinion on the new devices. I informed him that a few self-inflicted learning lessons had been discovered. I had to learn that putting my glasses on was different and I needed to be careful not to hit the button of the aids that change the signals of the device, my ears itched at times and I was leaning when to switch the input signals during different environments. He gave me suggestions to deal with each situation. We scheduled a long-term follow-on appointment.The Professionalism, Integrity, Knowledge, and caring displayed by Dr. Kuster and his staff is noteworthy and is appreciated by me. My quality of life has without a doubt been changed. I now tell my wife to turn the TV down and not talk so loud. I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone who is open-minded, looking and willing to accept results that are sometimes hard to accept.

Over the years I have gone to several audiologists, some who have received exceptional ratings in such consumer guides as Checkbook Magazine. Of those, some have stood out, but in my mind Dr. Kuster sets the gold standard. He was thorough, patient, and explained in detail options available to me. There was no high pressure to purchase something. I have severe hearing loss in one ear, and significant hearing loss in the other ear. Because of the severe hearing loss, I have been wearing only one hearing aid, in the better ear. Dr. Kuster suggested trying to see whether I could obtain some hearing improvement in the ear with severe hearing loss and, if not, I could return that device with no conditions. He even gave me extra time beyond the normal return period so that he could experiment with various settings. In the end, it did not work, and true to his word, he took the instrument back, quite some time beyond the usual return policy. Dr. Kuster encourages frequent follow-up visits, without restriction, to ensure patients are completely satisfied with their hearing instruments—and his service.

Dr. Kuster is the real deal. Not only is he knowledgeable in his craft but He actually cares about each of his clients. Just when I thought I lost my career as a nurse Dr. Kuster and his wife worked with me. Trust me if you are having hearing problems dont hesitate....please go see him!

My Dad has been a patient of Dr. Kuster for awhile now and has hearing aids. In the Fall a couple of years ago, Dad lost one of his hearing aids in the yard; unable to find the lost object, we had Dr. Kuster replace it. The following summer, after a long very cold winter and wet Spring, we found the lost hearing aid in the mud and rocks of the driveway. Dad kept the beat-up device for some reason and today we took Dad and the old device to Dr. Kuster....the old devise, although beat-up, still worked and Dr. Kuster was able to put it back into service. Dr. Kuster and his staff are really terrific....and the quality and durability of the hearing aids he provides is unbelievable.

I am a disabled veteran with tinnitus and hearing loss. i cant depend on marginal care to make it pass my required physicals.Dr. Kuster has the expertise and knowledge to use his high tech equipment to find what is best for me. I am still working thanks to Dr. Kuster.I highly recommend Dr. Kuster. He is professional, caring, and highly skilled in his craft. He constantly raises the bar of his expertise, though he has over 11 years of experience.This is authentic experience of constant application of his skills and caring for each patient as an individual who deserves his focused attention. Im in my early 30s and not a typical hearing aid client. Mr. Kuster met with me once and told me to go back to the ENT doctor who told me to get a hearing test. He didnt try to just sell me...he really cared about my hearing. After a CT scan with the ENT I was sent back to Mr. Kuster and he helped me. This took about a year to get it all sorted out that I needed a hearing aid. He was honest with me about what would be best for me. I loved the office staff who assisted me as well! The staff and Mr. Kuster were very welcoming to my 10 month old and my 6 year old. They engaged with my kids very well and were not annoyed I had to bring them. I LOVE hearing! As a teacher its so important for me to hear well in the classroom and Im now able to do that. :)

Dr. Kuster and his staff are fanastic. Im glad that I found alot of my needs has met with my new hearing aids that I got. Again Dr. Kuster is fanastic. I would recommend to my friends if they are need for hearing aids. :) Thank you!
