Review №1

I apologize in advance for this lengthy review but I hope it can be useful for other people. I am a 46 year old women diagnosed with BRCA1.Dr. Jane L. Kakkis is an extraordinary surgeon and human being. My gynecologist referred me to Dr. Kakkis last year due to family history of breast cancer and possible BRCA mutation. My diagnosis of BRCA1 mutation was positive. Dr. Kakkis immediately requested an ultrasound of my breasts and MRI screening to rule out breast cancer, and full mastectomy to follow. Since there was no cancer, Dr. Kakkis suggested to remove one breast at a time to minimize risks and expedite the healing process; I loved her conservative and caring approach.Since all the breast screenings were negative, I opted to have a full hysterectomy first due to repeated abnormal pap smears. Pathology reported ovarian cancer stage 2. Thus, a 2nd operation was performed in my pelvis by an oncologist/gynecologist surgeon and quimo followed for 6 months. Thus, full mastectomy had to be delayed.During all this time, Dr. Kakkis continued to monitor my breasts closely, requesting lab work, mammograms, MRI, PET/CT scans showing no signs of cancer.Thank God, I recovered from quimo and currently in remission.A month ago, Dr. Kakkis performed the removal of my right breast and coordinated the reconstruction of my right breast at the same time with plastic surgeon Dr. Brandon Richland (fabulous doctor as well). Needless to say, Dr. Kakkis requested a mammogram of my right breast prior to surgery to avoid any surprises. Mammogram was negative with no signs of abnormality. However, Dr. Kakkis called me few days after the surgery to communicate the pathology results. Lab found about 1 inch of cancerous cells stage zero on my right breast. However, per Dr. Kakkis, since all the cancer was removed and cancer cells were not aggressive, radiation/quimo was NOT needed. Yes indeed, another miracle. I am recovering well from my right breast and hoping to proceed with the removal of my left breast in a month or so. I remain faithful that God is in control and HE had put the best surgeons around me.Dr. Kakkis will not sugar coat it for you but she always addresses all your concerns in a kind and professional manner. She also encourages you to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion to have a clearer understanding of your options. Her assistant Kristine is also very professional, caring and efficient; she coordinates my appointments, screens, and surgery so smoothly. Kristine also handled my disability claim with no issues.I HIGHLY trust and recommend Dr. Kakkis for the care of your breasts.
