Took my daughter to the ER, nursing staff very friendly but the hospital definitely lacks cleanliness.. cleanliness should be a top priority in this time ,especially to prevent any nosocomial infections (photos include a used IV behind the head of bed, blood in the floor , and a finger poke needle it looks like on the floor as well) i asked them to move me into a new room and they did but the next room also contained blood specks on the floor and side table as well

When I entered the ER I told the registration clerk that my doctor had sent me and had sent over orders. She informed me that the doctor could not send orders because the only one who could give orders were the ER docs. I entered at 5:30pm thinking that I would be going home later because thats what my doctor said. I ask when I was going home and was told I was being admitted. I was in a trauma room from 5:30 to 2:30. The an ER treatment room from 2:30am to 7:00pm. I finally get a room at 7:30. My IV was stopped when I was being transferred. I asked 3 times about when they were going to hook up the IV. I was given the run around. Finally a wonderful nurse named Barb came in while I was crying from being so mad. She apologized and hooked up the IV. She comforted me while she was doing her job. Sunday morning I had a nurse named Vikki who is from Fishers. She was fabulous and I knew I would have good care. The nursing assistant was Maddie and she had a great attitude and smile making my day better. I was released Sunday afternoon. I should not have been in the ER department for 26 hours before getting a room. I will have to think long and hard before I use the ER at Lutheran again.

I work in one of the small shops inside of this hospital. When I tell you these are some of the most rudest employees that I have ever met in my entire life. They are snarky, condescending, and believe they should be getting everything for free. They openly roll their eyes and will give you attitude for no reason. Some of the stuff here is amazing, don’t get me wrong. But a majority of the employees, I would not trust with my life. Please get your staff in check. I would recommend a class/meeting on communication and managing your feelings.

I want to commend the understaffed and overworked nurses but they did the best they could. Our biggest complaint was housekeeping and janitorial. My wife wore the same gown for FIVE days and on the same bedding. Wasn’t changed once! I would use the public bathroom and twice they had no toilet paper or hand towels to dry!!! So I wouldn’t even give the housekeeping and janitorial staff any rating. Very disappointed in that. I’d give the nurses a 5 star rating but the lowest rating allowed is 1… and that’s for the housekeeping and janitorial staff.

Every person we came into contact with at Lutheran Hospital went above and beyond their job description. First, each person listened to what was happening. Not only did they listen, they also took what we had to say as far as the extent of the illness. My son has special needs and the entire team in the emergency room, surgical personnel, and fifth floor made sure to treat him as a person, listen to what he had to say, help him understand what was going to happen, and prepare him for what was coming next. From the intake people, nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, cafeteria personnel, IV team, lab techs, x-ray techs, house keeping, and even security EVERYONE made this difficult time easier by being patient, kind, compassionate, and attentive. My husband was a patient in the Rehab Hospital. He received excellent therapy and for the most part the nurses and tech’s were great. However, he was on peritoneal dialysis. The physicians increased his treatment to 12 hrs everyday which is more than he normally did at home. That resulted in my husband being in bed for 15 hours, the dialysis team comes from the main hospital. That meant he had to be put bed by 4:00 pm and not get out of bed until seven or eight the next morning. So much for patient center care, he had control of his bowels but he is not now, dinner in bed and in his words, “ I feel like a baby, being put in bed in the middle of the afternoon. The reason is because there is a lack of staff, (the nurses can’t accommodate a more reasonable schedule that works around rehab ) so his dignity and self esteem are tossed aside. The choice is do your treatment that works for the dialysis team or no treatment- that’s a no brained. Treatment is the only answer. It’s very hard to watch him cry or complain about being in pain because he is stuck in bed. No amount of medication can repair his dignity

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The hospital is fine, but their billing department is shady as #$%*. One of our children was delivered at this hospital and they waited until I left the room to come ask my wife (WHO JUST GAVE BIRTH THAT DAY) to pre-pay the bill and they would give us a discount. We had already pre-authorized everything, and knew what we were supposed to be paying but as she was out of it from the delivery, she paid it. Even with the 30% discount they gave us for paying in advance, the amount they charged us was over $2000 higher than the actual amount we needed to pay. We did not see that money for over 6 months.More recently, I was in a car accident with my son in the car. initially, health insurance paid the bill, but then 2 year and 3 months later they decided they were not responsible for it and got their money back from the hospital. Lutheran CLAIMS they sent one bill, that we never saw, over the cource of the next 6 months, but even then only one bill. Now they have sent me to collections over this account. There are many other instances like this, but I dont have enough characters to list it all here. I live less than 5 min from this hospital, but I will NEVER return.

He was dismissive and just didn’t seem to care. He told me to have a seat and wait until I was called. I was upset and scared because this had been different type of pain than before. I sat for a short while and went back to my car. And at one point I felt I wasn’t going to make it to another hospital safely. Luckily, I did. Once I got to a different hospital, the care was completely different. Lutheran Hospital is not what it was, unfortunately, and they should really consider the type of person that they have attending their front of the line ER. New nurse joined by experienced Nurse Scrubbed my open burns for minutes, with no motrin, local, nothing given. Took multiple pictures of burns. Then a Doctor came in told me I was lucky it wasnt oil or fat burns as they would be much worse. Dr. spent less than 3 minutes and only gave new nurse a bandage the open wounds. NO instructions or information given on treatment nothing put on the other bad burns, no prescription for ointment. Literally I was told come back in 2 weeks unless your healed. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I have never had a serious burn in my life...I had to Google what to treat them with and have had to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of netting, ointment, sterile pads, tape etc.Update Spoke with a Gentleman named Byron on 09/02/21, whom was not happy with the treatment or lack there of I received 08/24/21. Byron made an appointment for me for the next morning 09/03/21 09:00 with a new team. My appreciation for the quick response. The new Team: R.N. Lorraine, R.N. Amy and Dr. Kraatz were Very helpful and explained everything, answered every question, demonstrated bandages and medical spray adhesive, very thoroughly. They were personable. They sent me home with everything I would need to care for my burns, plus 2 pages of information on care. Dr Kraatz let me know there was a possibility of needing to do a minor operation on the burn I was most concerned about, if treatment he gave does not improve it satisfactorily. Major improvement in treatment. This team deserves nothing but graciousness and heartfelt Thanks. If all personnel emulated these 3 individuals there would be a seriously decreased amount of negative reviews.

It was a very difficult day/night arriving at 11:30a.m. and waiting in the waiting lobby until 5:30p.m. I was checked and given a bed in the over-flow section of the ER hallway since no rooms were available. I stayed there with very little attention. A doctor came by and told me I was not in Afib, which I know I was. (the reason for my ER visit) A few hours later he came back by and said that he was wrong because I was in Afib and they decided to admit me into the hospital. Still no beds were available, so I stayed in the ER hallway most of the night until 3:30 a.m. when I was told an ER room was available for me. A couple of hours later I was told they would get an I V with meds to try to get me out of Afib under control. Since that was not successful they gave me more lasytic. I had to walk down the hall to a public restroom every few minutes. So frustrating as I tried to clean the toilet with soapy paper towels before sitting. Exhausted from no sleep, a nurse told me they would try to schedule a cardioversion, if possible. Thankfully, it was scheduled for 4:30 p.m. I was taken to the heart pavilion for the procedure. They were so competent, professional, efficient, and amazing at their job. Within only a few minutes my heart was in perfect rhythm, I was wheeled back in my ER room, and getting my clothes on to go home!I never did get into a hospital room, but the trying difficult 31 hours was over, and my heart was in rhythm! Normally that wouldnt be a problem, however being a diabetic that is quite dangerous for me. On top of that the random blood sugar checks while I was eating was a bit concerning and then there was the giving insulin while I was eating..not cool.. This hospital needs a update on how to treat patients with all different kinds of medical conditions not treat everyone as a open and shut case. They did not seem to care that I could not tolerate their lack of understanding at how dangerous it was for me not to eat. They did that to me 2 days in a row. I called to check on a friend who was admitted to the ER. When I asked for him by name, they said he wasnt there. I was blatantly lied to. Only after filing a missing persons report with the Ft Wayne Police Dept was I informed he was indeed in the hospital.

Lutheran hospital doctors, nurses, staff and Dr. Gullett took very good care of me. Dr. Gullett removed a cancerous mass from my lung. Because of his awesome skills as a surgeon, along with the surgeons who assisted him, I am now cancer free.

Took my son in for a simple office visit and it was voluntary. It was not an emergency or even recommend by family doctor. I asked upfront if bill was going to be more than $1,000 and lady at desk said probably not. 1.5 hours later we left and then 7 months later sent a bill for $8900. The doctor said he was normal and no actions necessary. When I called to inquire about the bill, I was bounced around and everyone says not there department and thats how it is at Lutheran, professional crooks with the law on their side.Go somewhere else and have them give you pricing upfront in writing.

The worst stay I ever had in the hospital in my life. 1-Food is like jail food. 2- I had 2 good nurses and 1 PCA that really did there job correctly. 3-Average time for a Call Light to be answered was probably 25 to 30 minutes. Excuse was working short handed. Twice I had to get myself up to go to the bathroom on my own when I was considered a fall risk.4-Nurses and PCA,S not listening to my surgeon instructions on how to emptied my drain which resulted in my spinal fluid to also drain resulting in having to lying flat on my back for 48 hours after they removed my drain. I the long and short of it I spent 8 days instead of 4days. Also to add my surgery was on May 21st . I believe a couple days after the surgery I told the nurse that I was feeling nausea so she gave me a bag. About 10 minutes after that I threw up alot. I hit my call light which took 25 minutes and it took over 40 minutes total before I was seen by a nurse and cleaned up. Pathetic.

My mother, Rose Calligan, was admitted to Lutheran Hospital, room 400, on Jefferson Street after falling down a flight of stairs. The nursing staff on the 4th floorhave been extremely supportive, helpful and informative. I especially have to mention Charin, Marcia, Sarah, Heather and Katie from physical therapy. Charin actually stayed past her shift in order to clean my mother. CHARIN IS TRUELLY DEDICATED. My mother had to have a procedure done at the heart center where I encountered the only rude, unpleasant nurse Marsha Day. Sarah in the heart center was great but Ms. Day had the social skills of a rock and being administrative law judge I interact with many differing people but I dont expect rudeness from a nurse working with ill people.

The MedSurg ICU did an absolutely phenomenal job at saving my father’s life!!! I still get tears or chills thinking about our experience at this hospital. As I slept in a recliner for weeks on end next to his bed rigged with over a dozen perfectly placed IVs, drains, drips, & later dialysis..The nurse team that was assigned to my father went above and beyond shift after shift- Day after night!! Everyone that works on that floor is top of the line! Highly educated, well-informed, and extremely well-versed in their field. Not only were they incredible for the care of my father, they treated me like family. Not one person on The MedSurg floor made me feel unwelcome or out of place. One of the nurses would even come in on her days off to attend to my dad. I have so much respect for these nurses. THANK YOU!After he was transitioned to the cardiac floor he still received decent care. I was disappointed with some of the grumpy attitudes from nurses who acted like they did not want to be at work. I was even more disappointed with the gruff and rude nurses assistants that I overheard talking horribly about my dad in the hallway after he had taken a fall from his bed. They were making fun of his body shape, weight, and lack of ability to walk. This was extremely disheartening and disappointing after the excellent care and compassion that he received upstairs. I do not discredit this hospital or any of the other staff for this rude CNA and her poor behavior. And I just hope that if you take a job in the medical profession that you are doing it out of the goodness of your heart and that you would show compassion to all people know matter their situation, size, or abilities. These people are there for you to help, that is your job. I did find myself feeling like more of a burden to some of the staff on this floor. When my father was finally transferred to a regular medical room before being moved to the incredible Fort Wayne rehab hospital… The experience on that floor was much like the experience on the MedSurg floor… The nurses and staff were all very helpful, kind, and did not once make me feel like I should not be there advocating for my loved one.Overall our experience at Fort Wayne Lutheran hospital was top-notch! They are very organized, considerate, and overall very compassionate. You can feel the presence of the Lord in this establishment. My father received amazing medical care here. If we ever… God forbid… have to return anywhere for medical care, this is where we will go. Straight there, nowhere else, no other stops! On top of great medical care they also have awesome dining options inside the hospital including a great cafeteria, Starbucks, and Tim Hortons!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My care team included my vascular surgeon, Dr. Scavo, who repaired a nicked artery with a stent and grafts in my hip thus saving my leg. My surgical oncologist, Dr Neal Agee who has done several surgeries for me already, who removed 2 grapefruit sized tumors from my left hip. Dr Fouts with womens health advantage who was called in to remove one of my ovaries during my procedure and personally came to my room to check on me. I was in ICU for 3 days bc I had lost a lot of blood and got several units of blood (at last count was 9 not including plasma). I only had one instance where 2 nurses were speaking very loudly in my room to each other at a very late hour. My only other problem and it was a first for me, after numerous hospitalizations, after I was moved to a regular floor when housekeeping stopped in to pick up my garbage they did not clean my floor and it was quite noticeable. All of the nurses and techs were very professional and kind. I kept apologizing to this one nurse and she said dont you dare apologize for what you need to make yourself comfortable.

**edit to add the billing department has not contacted me. I have now started to receive letters stating my bill will be going to collections soon, even though I called billing myself and spoke to someone in February that stated my account would be placed on hold until further review. NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME SINCE. Unbelievable. This hospital is a joke.So far Ive received over $3000 in ER bills after going in for chest pain and leaving after PA Marilyn Recker didnt take me seriously. No labs, or tests were performed. I left within an hour of being there. My medical records from that visit are beyond incorrect. Unbelievably lousy PA and their billing department was absolutely useless. They couldnt give me a single breakdown of what my bill was for.

I would like to express my greatest appreciation to the Parkview Noble EMS EMT who did the emergency transportation to Lutheran Hospital during my double heart attack. The E. R. Staff for no longer than I was in there the quick response to get me to the cath lab as fast as you did. Only disappointment in the R.R. was the Lutheran Cardiologist disrespecting me as if I did not know what I was talking about when I have had unaccountable heart attack in the past. The Cath Lab personnel were outstanding, efficiently and prompt in their preparedness in getting me on the table and Dr. Lal started. Although Dr. Lal still puzzled and mystyfied, follow-up appointment will be discussed on alternative solutions. Once moved to CIC UNIT room. Unit room nurse was very much disrespectful. I found that the younger nurse were much more nicer and helpful cooperative. On a couple occasions this nurse forced me to eat my hot kitchen food ice cold. And on a occasion I had save. 2 soft drink for later she sent them back after specifically telling her to keep them. In addition. This nurse intentionally got mad at me because I would NOT allow her to take my paperwork for the medicine that was in my pain pump that is implanted. I told her she can either write it down or have her supervisor come in here but she does not get it. Ever since that incident she had treated me disrespectfully.Overall. Lutheran Hospital did an outstanding job considering that my life was in grave danger and was in serious position of touch n go.
