I have tried other medical devices for my mother - there are cheap imitators on the market - the problem with all EXCEPT Life Alert is they simply dont work - when you push the button - the other devices simply try and call 911 - the problem is if you cant verbally respond then you are stuck - other companies you need to charge large pendants - other companies do not maintain and monitor their equipment - Life Alert has perfected this type of equipment and is without exception the best - their pendant never needs charging they have all your medical information prior to so they can share it with paramedics on the way to help you - if you want something that insures your loved ones safety then LIFE ALERT is the only option!

I signed up for this service for my husband in the midst of a crisis. Unfortunately, I did not read the contract and took them at their word that if things changed I could stop the service. My husband improved and now I am stuck in a 3 year contract, paying $130.00 per month. I needed the unit moved to a new location, and they refuse to assist without charging even more money. I work with seniors and will advise everyone to seek another service that is better, more cost effective, and honest. Do not use life alert. The customer service is nonexistent, once you sign the 3 year contract.Melinda Skirvin

Read their better business reviews. I dont know how they have an a+. People had their family member die and they still charged the dead family member. Heres my experience..So I first signed up with life alert and was told it was a month to month service and I could CANCEL AT ANY TIME. Apparently this is untrue when you actually call to cancel. I was transfered 4 times before actually getting on the phone with the same lady who set me up with the system. (I have all her info if life alert is reading this) She ofcourse told me she never said that because she could lose her job if she said something like that and that its a 3year contract. I told her if I was told it was a 3 year contract then I would have never signed up! I told the lady the first time I called that I have seizures and Im getting better meds and will not need the service long and she said month to month so I signed up. So back to when I tried to cancel, the same lady who signed me up said no one can die from seizures so youll always need us when I tried to cancel. She said her husband has seizures and he needs it and he cant die from seizures and no one has ever died from seizures. First of all shes not a doctor. Second its highly UNPROFESSIONAL of her to use her personal life as medical experience. Everyone is different. When I go into a seizure I stop breathing(almost 3 minutes last time) and have a chance of swallowing my tongue(Ive almost bitten it off plenty of times). Everytime I tried to speak this lady interrupted me so I couldnt even say what I needed to. I was outraged at this point and had to have my mother in law take over the phone call for me. The lady then proceeded to tell us that I signed a contract (which I did not sign because I still have it at my house) that states everything about the 3 years etc. We requested a copy of the document (which they never produced, Im still waiting for it to come in the mail some day, but they cant because I never signed anything). My mother in law told the lady we were very unhappy with the service and the response time. The lady proceeded to argue with my mother in law that they have some of the best response times(she said under 90 seconds and we tested it on the phone with her and it was longer ofcourse) and they are the #1 company with services like this which is also untrue and my mother in law pointed that out and the lady proceeded to tell us we didnt know anything. (Mother in law was on national websites checking their rating against other companies and they are 3rd not 1st). When my mother in law asked if this lady could provide the RECORDED CALL from the initial set up, she basically told her NO and transfered us to someone in the service department for if my lifealert was broken. Very unprofessional. I could file a huge lawsuit against you LifeAlert and a civil one against the lady. EVERYTHING WAS ON A RECORDED LINE and I could SUBPOENA the calls. All I wanted to do was cancel my service, that I never used, especially after the way I was treated. The initial reason I wanted to cancel was the time it took for lifealert to respond. Besides taking almost 3 minutes or more, I cannot answer when I go into a seizure and they insist on asking if Im there instead of contacting 911 immediately, its all in my file also what meds Im on and where the spare key for my house is so they dont break down my door and also that I will not be able to speak because Im unresponsive. So in order to cancel with life alert, I canceled my bank account and sent them their system back before the next month was due. I have pictures and tracking to prove I sent it back. Please do NOT sign up with this company. There are plenty of apps on phones and other companies that are more then willing to work with you. This company prides themselves on stealing peoples money.
