I have been a patient of Dr. Ralsten (and Dr. Cook) since 2008 and through a twin birth, a down syndrome pregnancy, a stillbirth, miscarriages, and basic gynecology visits. They both have been soooo caring and thorough through every type of encounter I have had with them. They really take their time with you and are very honest about your condition in a very caring and gentle way. It was also great to give birth to 3 babies in the same hospital as their office. I always recommend them to anyone who is looking for an OB or Gyn.

12/3/13 had a LSH (laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy) done by Ralsten. Protocol for surgery is 3-4 incisions. He made 1 incision. Cramming all of his tools into one small hole to rip out my uterus and unknowingly, my right ureter. Sewed me up, sent me home and dismissed complaints about not being able to urinate and not recovering well. A week later after very bad pain and passing out, went to the ER at piedmont Fayetteville and had a CAT scan w/ contrast and the ER doc failed to follow up on the fact that the radiologist couldn’t locate my right ureter along with fluid (urine) in my abdomen and sent me home! Next day back to Ralsten, he said he thought he “knicked” my ureter. Back to the hospital next day for a nephrostomy tube and stent in my ureter only for that doc to tell me the ureter was completely severed! 5 days later had a urologist perform a psoas hitch to reimplant what was left of my ureter. Lucky I didn’t lose my kidney! Ralsten visited me in the hospital and joked that now I have a reason to buy a new purse!! (So I could hide the Foley catheter I got to carry around for a week after surgery). I was left with high medical bills, depression, life long pain and problems, pain pill addiction and he didn’t get in any kind of trouble. The hospital did nothing to him. If he had followed protocol, this wouldn’t have happened. Also if he wasn’t so careless and sloppy, he would have realized his mistake before sewing me up and sending me home. I would advise another doctor. All doctors make mistakes, I understand that. However, Ralsten was negligent. Heed my warning.
