I loved this place. My favorite climbing place in Boston, will be returning!

I have climbed at all of the gyms in the Boston area and MetroRock is my favorite! The walls are well-featured (corners, chimneys, cracks, roofs, slab, sustained, arch), textured (smear away!) and long. The route-setters are creative and provide a nice variation in types of climbs, and the grading is representative of outdoor climbing in the area. The atmosphere is welcoming- you can be a beginner or go with your family and feel comfortable here. The staff are friendly, I never feel rushed or like Im annoying with a question or request. Overall a very down-to-earth place where you can have fun and improve your climbing

Of all the gyms I have been to this is definitely in my top three. As you would expect the staff is pretty laid back, but also very professional for a rock gym. The place is kept clean and the climbing community is second to none, the reason I have a membership here! The top roping is my favorite and there are a good variety of wall types from slab to overhang. There is also plenty of bouldering is thats your thing and also a good amount of lead too! I would highly recommend this gym.

I love the unpretentious, slightly grungy, typically MIT-geekish ambiance. Theres a large variety of routes up to half a pitch long, lead, topr rope, or self belay. The routes are more spread apart than at Central Rock Gym in Watertown, and there is almost a full grade of difference in the rating between Metro (5.10a) and CRG (5.9). Slack line, yoga studio, workout and stretching rooms, and to top it all, a Wonderfully nice and accommodating staff always available !

Really nice Rock climbing gym. Its a bit of a trek to get out here but once you do youre reared with some excellent climbing. The routes are well designed and thereal rock face is nice for smearing. My only complaint is that as a boulderer I think Id run out of routes after a session or two, but for a drop in, its great.

Hands down the best Rock gym in Boston. They have super friendly staff and great climbers/community. When you are considering buying shoes from their small store there is always a friendly staffer to help you decide what type of shoe to get and they will let you try them on a boulder or two do see how they feel!Additionally the route setting is fantastic. The natural rock surfacing and the many different shapes and natural features on their walls make for an awesome variety of climbs. Everything from nice learn to climb 5.5s and 5.6s all the way to one or two 5.12d, or even 5.13a sport routes. This gym has it all! :)

Im a huge fan of MetroRock. Aside from their gorgeous rock walls and automatic belayers, they have an amazing ropes course. Im not afraid of heights, but this one really put the fear of god in me! Luckily, I had the MetroRock team as well as my team mates helping me and encouraging me along the way. The safety hooks (lobster claws) and helmets , as well as the safety brief helped keep us all safe and level headed. I will come back again and again for that course...I got an amazing workout, and had so much fun!

Been to Central rock, BKB, Metro rock, and Boston rock. Besides Central Rock, Ive been to the other three at least 15 times. I chose Metro rock to be my primary gym because:Price - Metro Rock is on the cheaper side and it offers a ton of options, ie. student discount, 10 pass pack, ladies night, etc.Route - Routes are interesting and fun; they get updated every 1 or 2 months.Parking - Ive always been able to find parking on their lot. Most of the time Im in the back because this place is quite popular.Staff - Very friendly and helpful.Rooms for improvement:Host less events because it does get crowded.Cleanness - It could be cleaner.

Great place for indoor rock climbing. Tall ceilings, bouldering, top rop, lead climbing, and auto-belay stations. Also a small weight room and a section to train your grip. Been going there for years and always leave with a smile on my face.

Whether its bouldering, free climb, or top-rope, your climb will be a great workout -- the center also offers elliptical/rowing machines and recumbent bicycles for an extra cardio boost. Monday night is discounted for women. Bonus: Everyone is friendly here -- a great place to meet new friends.

Great facility! Good variety of top rope, lead, bouldering. The certification process for top rope and belay isnt good. If you dont have climbing experience, you will have to attend a pre-determined intro to climbing class, which sucks if you decided to go on a whim. The certification is them handing you a harness, watching you put it on, then making you tie your knot, and hook up with up your belay device. Very basic, and necessary, I completely understand!. But you are not allowed to practice before hand, or have someone teach you how to do it. They just watch you and fail you, and say you have to test again next time, OR come back when we have our class and take it. IfIthey see you practicing beforehand then they automatically fail you. I am not against certification to ensure safety. However there should be a better process to teach new climbers AFTER they already pay for entry, and rentals to tell them they can only Boulder or do the 8 auto belay climbs in the gym.

The staff is great and so is the set up; but gotta give the place one star until they clean the changing room, specifically the shower. Love coming in to work out and climb, but Id almost rather stay sweaty and gross than use the showers. They need a good cleaning and a lil tlc since the drain clogs resulting in the water building up at my feet leaving me to stand in a rising puddle. It wouldnt be a big deal if my feet were under an inch of stagnant shower water....its nasty. Ive said something more than once, so Im definitely starting to lose my patience and thinking about switching gyms. Again, just want them to actually make the showers nice and usable.

Clean, organized, and they have something for everyone. I like how this place is organized and caters to a wide range of ages and skill levels. I visited for the first time and was greeted by two sweet doggies, filled out a waiver, rented a harness, and got a 5 min tutorial and was on my way to climbing for the first time. The auto baley device is very safe and also fun to use. Sometimes there is a line but not one that is unbearable. There are also plenty of shorter walls for climbing, without baleys but with giant red mats to catch your fall.It is a great form of exercise but I have a newfound appreciation for climbers (especially those who can climb in an inverted position!). I am sore in places I did not know existed!

Great climbing gym. Nice and big. Its not as pretty as Central Rock in Watertown, but the shape of the walls gives a lot more opportunities for stemming, arretes, and other fun moves. Walls are a good height (45 or so I think), the staff was decent, and I liked the route setting.

Rock climbing! MetroRock is located in a dark alley near old warehouses outside of the superplex of Costco and its other franchise minions. Once I entered in the building, I was in a world with like minded rock climbers that were here to stretch their mental and physical abilities. Its a game of strategy and can be as stimulating as playing any challenging crossword puzzle. The levels go from easy to severely challenging. I am yet to dangle at a 45 degree angle upside down. The staff are talented climbers who have been all over the world just to fill their itch of climbing. Warning, rock climbing is highly addictive. So if you plan to go once make sure you have enough money in the bank to support your habit. You will be back.

I am an avid indoor rock climber and thought Metrorock was a great place for a few reasons, but not the best for others. The pros included awesome lead climbing with very fun and interesting setting paired with large features such as a large arch with a fun ceiling as well as a large overhung cave. They have auto-belays which can be a perk depending on your goals. The bouldering here is so-so but the top roping is very fun, like the lead routes the top rope ones are set well. I dont think there is A/C so it gets really muggy in there, and seems a bit dingy maybe because of that. Overall its amazing for serious and moderate/advanced level lead climbing or some top-roping, but just average for everything else.
