REI is outdoor sports, biking climbing, backpacking, etc. membership store. The selection of gear they sell will not satisfy a serious climber or bicyclist but is good for the weekend crowd and great for beginners. The people who work in the store are universally wonderful. Some things are overpriced but the sales can be good. I always try to support the local climbing store over REI when I can.

Comment for REI in general. Can we just put the footwear inventory out on the floor? Like every other store that sells shoes. Very little value added, waiting my turn in the COVID era, to be allowed into the footwear area, while an associate who is a canoe expert tells me that theyre out of size 11. I can do this on my own

REI is the best of the best when it comes to camping and outdoors accessories, and the Eugene location definitely lives up to the brand. Once youre inside, the building is two-storied and gives off a rustic vibe that almost makes you feel like youre already outdoors. Its fun to come here just to browse around and explore the store.

I came in today to purchase a new pair of running shoes. I was greeted at the door by a store associate and helped immediately. Although they didnt have the shoes I came to see, I was informed that they have a selection of other shoes directly comparable to the ones I was looking for. The saleswoman whos name I cant recall at the moment was very friendly, patient and informative. We were able to find me a pair of shoes that fit perfectly both in size and per application. Im very happy with my experience and Im excited to become a member what with the sales and used selections they have too. I really appreciate the small town atmosphere unlike the usual big box stores. I definitely will be shopping here again.

We really liked this R.E.I.My wife needed a rain coat for the Oregon weather we got ourselves into. They had an amazing selection of top quality jackets. A lot were serious $$$ but they had a bunch of brands that were in our price range. They were really nice jackets double and triple layered. Unfortunately they didnt have the color she wanted but they did a great job of recommending a variety of types and styles. The customer service is fantastic at this store.Other than the clothing they had a great selection of whatever you could need for camping, off-roading, kayaking, etc.It makes sense why they do so well in Oregon!

I was the first customer in the door this morning, got what I needed and was in-line immediately. There was one person checking out and a line of 6 people behind me.I waited for 15 minutes before someone came to check me out. I get things happen but they need more employees ready to check out. It’s never taken that long before with a line of 20. Also, give those guys some coffee on REI, it’s 10 am and they looked so tired they could barely function. I recommend Eugene’s own BNF Yerba Mate on tap. 😂

I love REI… I’m especially impressed because a man was sitting outside the store controlling the line in the numbers that were going in and out, because of the pandemicAnd two older women walked in with A younger woman, and he said “hey guys go on in“… And I walked in after them and nicely said to him “those aren’t guys“… And instead of getting defensive, or justifying it saying it’s “gender neutral“… He said “that’s a good point“...Instead of getting defensive…

Loving the way our Eugene REI is handling social distancing! My trip was made easy and even the short wait outside was not bad! Especially because the crew attempted to connect with every shopper and kept it light and fun while we waited. Once inside I saw Employees still engaging customers while making it look easy to observe social distancing. I received great advice from the employees on shoes and saw great examples of customer service in all the departments. My experience was great and I really appreciated the upbeat atmosphere.

Pleasant and helpful staff. During this pandemic, they are limiting customers inside the store because the space is rather small. So you might have to wait in line to get in as I did. But once inside, it is not over crowded, and is pretty easy to maintain distance between shoppers. I was looking for shoelaces, which they had. The salesperson went to get a selection of laces for me to look at and choose from as the area near the laces was busy. So helpful! I saw several members of the staff doing cleaning.

I know what to expect at REI. And Ive frequented the Eugene location enough to know not to expect it here. For the most part Ive found this store to have inattentive employees, especially in the shoe department. You need to do your research and know exactly what it is you want, as the staff here is just not up for helping you if you have a lot of questions about different products or finding anything specifically tailored to your needs.I will typically go to the stores in Salem or the Portland area when I need something from REI because Ive found the experience and product selection there to be so much better and I almost always get the help I need. Not here.

Absolutely unacceptable. Terrible customer service from every employee that I came in contact with. The gentleman keeping track of occupancy was snippy and kept making rude comments about not knowing exactly what I was looking for. Understanding that you couldn’t try anything on, I wanted to buy a pair of sunglasses and needed an employee to get them out of the case and had three different people tell me that I wasn’t allowed to try them on and yelled at me to get back and give them six feet of space, the cashier asked if I needed a bag for my ten or so small items and I said yes to which she sneered that it was wasteful and rolled her eyes. There are tactful ways to communicate with people and this wasn’t it. I work in the service industry and understand that the pandemic has put extra stress on those in retail but this was next level. Down right rude and uncalled for attitudes from all staff. Never spending my money here again.

But now theres nothing.REI also negatively affected my credit score by doing this. The overall credit you have based on how much you have used helps determine a large part of your score. So while I was over $2000 away from my credit limit, now I am only a little over $100 away.NEVER DEAL WITH REI.
