I’ve had experience with many different IOP programs and have been lucky to have some of the most amazing counselors. Unfortunately I cannot say that about this place. I don’t know if maybe I triggered something in my counselor that made them either not want to give me the credit I deserved, as I had stuck with them for 6 months, stayed clean that entire time and progressed tremendously, or if his ego about needing to be the authoritative “I’ve been through college so I know all there is to know”, I really don’t know all I can do is guess based on the feeling I got from my interactions with him. It got so bad that the very last group I attended, my peers were messaging me seeing if I was okay because he was basically attacking me, questioning me and treating me like I wasn’t being honest or I was doing something wrong. Calling me out in front of everyone for things that other clients did every day. I left treatment that day. I don’t care what anyone says, that is not how an Addiction Counselor should be treating any of their clients. Especially us being addicts, that approach never works. I tried to plead my case and bring awareness to how I felt, wasn’t taken serious wasn’t even listened to. I caught multiple mistakes on my progress reports regarding my attendance where he said I no called no showed multiple times in a row when I did not and I had proof of that and showed them. Said they would correct it on my next report, and did not do that. I am not a disrespectful person by any means, I was raised to respect everyone and if they don’t respect you, kill em with kindness and go about your business! I’m sure he is a great guy that is not what I’m saying, I’m saying that if I wasn’t as strong as I am in my recovery that I 100% would have taken that mistreatment and been embarrassed (which I completely was almost every single group by him and his comments) I would have felt ashamed and like my efforts did not make a difference and then I would have went right back out and relapsed over it. Thank the lord I did not, but that’s the reality of these places. That’s the risk of not doing your job! Someone could go out and use over the mistreatment they received and end up dead! Serenity Lane is full of amazing staff, but some really need to re-evaluate their approach, how they treat addicts and why the hell they chose that job in the first place. It was pathetic really.

Serenity lane is running a scam. I would never recommend using this facility for treatment. I was sober for over a year when I entered the program and they still made me go through detox which cost me $2000 out of pocket. Shawn in the billing department is extremely rude and unprofessional. If you need treatment I would look elsewhere. All they want is your money.

I’m sorry for the negative experience that anyone has had, I had problems with my ins and they were able to get me in. Sometimes there is a bad apple in bunch but that doesn’t make everyone rotten. If you don’t get treated with respect and the answers you need then ask to talk to someone else. Everyone was great there and I didn’t think I was going to like it at all!

I admitted MYSELF into the Serenity Lane program BY CHOICE several times. I never was ordered by a court AND NEVER had a drunk driving ticket.I was just very concerned about the amount of alcohol I was consuming just to cope/ SLEEP . I chose to do their our patient program. No resolve.Did my 1st inpatient for 30 and daysand still stopped on the way home at a liquor store!Still worried but hopeful, chose to do inpatient for 30 days. Still unsuccessful. Then chose ( AGAIN) to do another 30 days AND STILL WAS not fealing confident and decided to enter myself into the Serinity Lane BOOT CAMP of the program. $4,000 a month OUT OF POCKET!!! For 3mths.THEN.......after 2 MONTHS MY (MYPERSONAL female COUNSELOR TOLD ME (after taking 8k of my out of pocket expenses ) THE SERENITY LANE EMPLOYEE told me..... Well, we DONT REALLY HAVE HOPE for success of sobriety for your age group who are addicted to alcohol. (???!!!????!!!!!!!) If you believed that, WHY WOULD YOUR COMPANY KEEP TAKING MY MONEY?????SHAME ON YOU SERENITY LANE!!!!SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR REAL HELP and your not 17teen to, .....what,25,30, 35, 36, 40 yrs DO NOT INVEST YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!Young people have PARENTS paying.BEWARE of promise and advertisrment if youre over 35(?)Just like used car salesmen, lawyers, and carnival rides.IF ITS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.....HONEY IT PROBABLY IS..BEEN THERE. I called this afternoon to simply ask what insurances were accepted and was very polite.... however the two older women I spoke too when I called were extremely rude and made me feel rather unwelcome to be calling in the first place. So heres a thought... maybe their staff should consider when speaking with someone who is interested in treatment for the first time for themselves or just in general, they should be a little kinder and maybe have some compassion in their voice. Because getting started in treatment can be a big step in someones life and when the first person you talk to when trying to make that step is a rude b**** its rather discouraging.

Im so happy I saw where I could post this. Also called to find out about insurance and such. The person I called was also very rude. This call was for my husband who was there in 2010. Our insurance changed sense then so I wanted information. Its all about the money now. Senerity Lane has gotten pretty UP TOWN! Sorry they forgot that families are hurting and desperate. I found out theres a place in Portland that is still helping all people not just the ones with lots of money or tip of the line insurance. I know nothing is free. I respect that but it doesnt cost to be nice.

I am clean and sober for over 5 years now. Serenity Lanes training and counseling returned a focus for everything important in my life. I am a blessed man!

They mean well but they need a little more training on how to treat people with respect there needs to be accountability they know that youre going to be in and out within 30 days so nobody will be held accountable for their actions they know theyre not going to be seeing you again I know everybodys experience is different but mine was horrible the interns need to be a little better at their job pretty much all of them made me feel like they were better than me every time I had a concern every person that I talk to passed the buck... and say its not my responsibility

I just spoke with a male employee of Serenity Lane of Bend, Oregon. He told me that depression and anxiety are only caused by environmental problems and can not be from biological problems, like imbalances in brain chemistry. He is saying that mental illness cannot have its roots in a physical disease, but that all depression and anxiety are attributed to an event. To him, a person merely needs to pinpoint why they are depressed or anxious and over come it with counseling. While I certainly agree that environmental crises can and do cause depression and anxiety for many people, it is ignorant and unprofessional to discount clients who suffer from biological diseases like anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, dysthymia, narcissism etc... SL needs to improve the hiring and training their staff. Beware.
