What can I say about UPMC Hamot? Foremost I’ve gotten better care here that at St. Vincent’s.The nurses and aids are great at their job and very accommodating. Sometimes s things get hectic and there’s a bit of a wait. Other times they simple cannot act out of their sphere to meet your needs. Most of the docs are great. Though many-likely due to the narcotic crisis- air on the side of caution. Even when that means the patient suffers a little. Sometimes it’s the condition the patient has that limits meds available. The food is pretty good. Meeting a wide variety of tastes.Sometimes transport from test or procedure takes a little longer than one would like. They are thorough in their work. Just make sure you use your voice and tell them what you need. Do not be afraid to say no either. Now, the pictures of this room are not typical. This is like a suite.

My appendix feels like its about to burst but I’ve been sitting here for 8 hours and they haven’t come to help me. I shouldn’t have to pay a fee if I have to wait this long especially since this is a life threatening situation. How about instead of pulling old karens who are worried because they have covid, pull the infants first and the people who have life threatening situations. Though I know this is probably not the people who work there’s doings or being at fault. It’s their management that should be fixed asap for creating such a disaster

To whom it may concern,I have been struggling with so much pain, stress and anxiety and have had no luck. I have been to many many doctors and have had many procedures, toenails gone, capelltunnel released, ankle repaired, shoulder fixed. I must say their has never been a team attending me like Jeremy G. Stone M.D. medical staff, from the secretary, nurses, aides and supporting staff. I felt like they took me in their arms like my grandma and did not let me go till I felt better. From the moment I met him he introduced himself to me and made me feel comfortable then told me about himself as a doctor and asked me about my life and pain then took me thru his assessment of my MRI and condition provided me with choices and recommended his. I never felt this way at a doctors office. After the surgery when Dr. Stone came to see me I almost cried telling him how better it all felt I must have seen a dozen dr.s and no one could tell me what was going on let alone fix it. Like my wife said I wish we could give them 100 stars. So to Jeremy G. Stone M.D. and his supporting staff especially the team of the 8th floor at hamott main I say THANK YOU, GOD BLESS and know you made a difference in my life.

Our son was rushed to UPMC Hamot with a life threatening condition. The immediate care in the ER and the care received in the ICU unit saved and returned his life to normal. We can never express our sincere gratitude to every doctor, nurse or staff member that helped us through the entire event. The Doctors and Nurses answered any and all questions and could not have provided better care. UPMC Hamot is a state of the art facility with a matching staff. Thanks not only for our son but the countless others you help on a daily basis. You are all special people and our family was blessed to have your help!Sincerely,Eli. Maravich

Worst hospital experience ever. My Grandson was brought in by ambulance. The ER was packed with people. Standing room only. They had patients on beds in the hallways. It looked like a horror movie. Like the plaque hit Erie. My grandson was puking and pooping everywhere. I asked for a wash cloth or towels. I never received anything to clean him up. He had no bedding left. Never got new. The rooms were disgusting and dingy. Our nurse was nice but only seen her a couple of times. The doctor was rude. I will never go to this ER again. They had to many patients for their uncaring staff.

If I could leave no stars, I would! At the beginning of the year my father in law passed away in their ICU. One, they broke hippa several times. We asked the medical team to stop sharing his information outside his next of kin, but they did several times. Second, after my father in law passed away, a member of the staff stole all the money out of his wallet, took one of his credit cards and attempted to get into his phone. We filed a complaint and nothing happened. Don’t go here!!!Add: we tried several times to file complaints and reports, nothing happened!! They just kept transferring us through the compliance department. We never got the money back or even an apology from the hospital.

My son had an EEG scheduled (he’s six). He was a little nervous but mostly I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. From the nice security guard, to the wonderfully sweet woman taking our temperatures, we had great staff. The woman in the EEG waiting room was kind not only to me, but patient with other folks who were a bit rude to her. She was calm and nice (i wish i caught her name). And then we went back for the EEG and Kelly helped my son with the test. She was SO GREAT with him. She was attentive and patient and great with him and myself. She talked to us about the procedure and also about basic stuff (dogs, kids, fun stuff). She truly made the experience easy and fun. Thanks Kelly and thanks hamot

Ask yourself this question. If you were a sought after specialist, would you be wanting to work at a hospital in Erie owned by a company that pays pennies to their doctors nurses etc. The answer is no. this hospital is in the Stone Age, the machines may be up-to-date because of widespread UPMC standards. However the people are not. Things get missed nonstop. I would not send my worst enemy to this hospital. It embodies what Erie Pennsylvania is. A giant trash bag. Look around this hospital, you will see miserable employees. That leads to missed diagnosis and a toxic work environment and patient environment. If you are truly sick go to the bigger cities in the surrounding area. Stay far away.

Cant complain about anything during a recent trip to the ER. Everyone-from receptionist, nurses, doctors, technicians and check out-were professional and pleasant to deal with. The security people were good kids and professional, but the set-up they have to work with could be a problem since a persons view is blocked when they inspect a womans purse. For theyre own sake that could be an issue. Again, those security people were good kids.

Went in due to back injury, left leg was completely numb, could not move. Walked in and realized the waiting room was wall to wall people. Screaming babies who were coughing and feeling bad, people with oxygen tanks, I was told they had been there 3-4 hours and still hadnt gotten a room.I waited 20 minutes until I was checked in to have my vitals taken. After hearing it would be a 4 hr. wait to get a room I asked to leave. Told to ask the nurse, limped over to the nurse who before I said anything yelled at me to get away because she was speaking to another patient and said I need to get away. Nastiest, cant Ive met in a long time. This place is absolutely terrible and will never go back.

Patient lost forever. I am very sick and went in to Hamot for an outpatient test. The test was to check my gallbladder. I had a 20 min break to go walk around and get medicine pumping hopefully into my gallbladder. I went outside to walk...2 UPMC police pulled up in there patrol cars and asked me what I was doing. I said walking and explained about my test. They said I was not aloud to leave the hospital because of IV in my arm. Ok so I said sorry no one told me that and said I need to head in for the rest of my test. They said they needed me to do there police report. I said I’m not comfortable doing so as I have not left the hospital, I’m going back in now. They let me go in and walked in behind me. I did another phase of my test and then had another 30 min break. So I went to the hallway to walk. 20 min later 4 Upmc security guards come down the hall and one grabbed me and said I’m coming with him. I said again I need to go back in for my testing and please take your hands off me. The 4 of them stood around me and treated me like a criminal. Asking my name phone number, address. They told me if I didn’t comply with their beating me up verbally they would arrest me for stealing hospital property (the iv in my arm). I was treated like a criminal, chased, grabbed, badgered, and embarrassed. The entire staff was looking at me like a drug addiction because they kept saying people steal IV’s to do drugs. I was obviously there to do a test. The whole team where my test was said people leave everyday with IV’s. Many tests take an iv and a shot then you come back 4 hours later. I was attacked. Been going to Upmc facilities for 35 years and 4-5times a week for 4-5 years. They will not ever bill my insurance a penny again unless some heartfelt apologies come my way. I’m very sick and trying to get answers. Going to place that is supposed to be helping and getting judged, embarrassed, deflated. My sickness causes major depression and I’m now afraid to go back to the hospital. What am I supposed to do now? This place has shown countless times they don’t care about their patients/customers. If your going to be all about the money at least have good customer service and treat people with respect.

I spent 2 weeks and a few days in Hamot. Over a week in ICU and then on the Neurology unit for another week or so. Overall I had a great experience because they kept me alive. I had a brain hemorrhage, stroke and was in bad shape. I dont remember the first week but after that was a good experience. I am pretty much fully recovered in 4 months. I just had a second brain surgery about a month ago and I am healing very well. Dr. Romero is an amazing Neurologist and Kim Beyer is top notch also. The doctor that was working on Memorial day weekend is my true savior. His name was Dr. Javhov and he saved my life. I dont remember him and havent seen him but I appreciate him tremendously. So overall I approve UPMC Hamot to provide care for me and also thank God for watching over me too. Melanie Padilioni

My daddy was a patient in August, and now again in October. In August had some bad experiences with a few cnas and a nurse who did not seem to grasp the concept of possessing qualities such as basic human kindness, compassion, & empathy. However, HUGE shout out to Dr. Seth Parsons & Dr. Asif Shakoor whose bed side manner with my dad as well as with his family was beyond remarkable. Would call everyday with video chats and never made me feel rushed with questions or concerns and also treated my father like a human being, not just a patient number in a bed. These two Drs should teach a class on bedside manner to many other Drs and should be the standard to which all health care providers are held too! Both are truly a blessing to the patients and families they care for and a blessing to Hamot and should be recognized and commended! With this visit my daddy had to go into icu with life threatening problems. There are a few nurses that we believe should be highly recognized for going above and beyond with caring for my dad, I’m not talking about giving meds, monitoring vitals etc, I’m talking about the ones who take the time and compassion to do all the little things in providing comfort, compassion, empathy, gentleness, and genuine concern. There is a HUGE difference in the people who have these qualities versus ones who are just there to do the bare minimum and receive a paycheck. Huge shout out to cvicu south nurses Kim, Sarah, Leslie, and Hannah! These are the names I can remember and should be commended by their superiors in every way. They, Who took the time each day to speak with me on the phone patiently and addressing concerns, and answering my questions without rushing in such a kind manner, to most of all, treating my father as if he were their father, and not just a body in a bed. KIM especially who took the time to call me versus waiting to see if and when I called. As an RN for more than two decades myself, ik “medicine” in general can do wonders, but so often it’s the little things that make all the difference. Random acts of kindness these above named nurses performed. It’s treating the “Whole Person” and not JUST treating a condition. Taking the time to hold a persons hand when they are scared, not just wiping a tear from his face but taking time to genuinely console and reassure a patient, basic human needs that seem to be disappearing at times from the medical field. Taking the time to make sure mouth is clean, putting lotion on dry skin, taking the time to get him out of bed and making sure he was comfortable, to helping him call his only daughter, me, every time he wanted to, making doublely sure he is not sent to same floor , 7 south, as prior visit where some occurrences with a particular nurse and aide were beyond deplorable and with this particular aide, savannah, (Which I will not type last name) abusive. Sadly and sickening that this can occur to an alert and oriented sweet elderly man who never has a mean word for anyone. And Even more sad and disheartening that they continue to be employees in this field at this hospital after I made a complaint. Terrible a few bad eggs can bring down reputation of all th good eggs. Back to cvicu, a big thank u to the icu Drs who all contributed to saving my dads life, God bless you all! And again to dr Parsons, dr shakoor, Kim, Leslie, Hannah, and Sarah, go home with your head held high each day being proud that u didn’t just do a job, you put your heart on your sleeve and made a huge difference in the days of a sweet eldering man along with his daughter and son in law, who love him soooo dearly! Thank you and May God bless you, and may the hospital RECOGNIZE and REWARD you all, because people like this are becoming fewer and fewer. You are angels!!

The nurse was there for the first five minutes of us being in the ER room and then we never saw her again. They didnt help my mom at all and just released her due to being busy but when we left the reception area, in the emergency area where people check in, was empty. Dr. Shaun Black and nurse Michelle (I believe her name was) were jokes. Do not recommend to anyone. There were good nurses though, I believe they were nurses, such as Kayla and Emily. I highly recommend those two. They are professional and efficient. Nurses for the most part, besides those two, do nothing but sit around and gossip. They do not check on you and just talk about who is cheating on their spouse with who and flirt with one another. They are paid just to stand around for the most part. Highly unprofessional and will not return there.

UPMC Hamot has a banner on the front of the building stating its excellence for stroke recovery patients. We however, found some of the doctors bedside manners to be lacking empathy in the MICU North side. One needs to research reviews very carefully, before placing complete trust in UPMCs treatment practices. Parking to this particular hospital is also very inconvenient and expensive on a daily basis. Parking ramps lack enough handicap spaces, and regular spaces in the garage are extremely tight. Expect door dings in your vehicle when using the parking garage.

Heres a real story time. summer 2012, my grandmother was admitted into this hospital after her lung collapsed. after a day or so, she was put under for surgery. what was supposed to be a four hour surgery, turned into 8. she hadn’t reacted well to the drugs. afterwards, she was put in intensive care due to her ill state. however, nurses and doctors alerted us ‘there’s nothing we can do’, without even trying. mind you, she was then taken from this joke of a death trap and sent to another hospital, where she fully recovered and lived for two more years when hamot assures is several times that there was ‘nothing’ they could do, and death was inevitable. oh, it gets better. we were also told there was a small cancer tumor during the time of surgery. instead of taking it out, like most would, they left it in there — just to cause chaos two years later. this place is a joke. i’ll never be here myself, and after experiencing all this and reading the reviews, do not send your loved one here. they were bad back then, and theyre still terrible now. you’re better off treating yourself at home. NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Had a cardiac arrest due to diabetic complications, excellent care from the staff, if it werent for them I wouldnt be here. To all the people who have written bad reviews because you thought it was a hotel or your childs nurse, get your facts straight, there is a protocol and a cough isnt that high up on medical emergencies, so if you didnt get someone to you fast enough, maybe the situation was not as bad as you thought. Sick of people thinking a common cold is something to write a bad review when a trip to CVS could have avoided this all together.

I have been here since 7 PM. It is now 11 PM. I write this from the waiting room as I overhear that 2 people are still ahead of me. I am ready to pass out. I would hate to actually be in a near death situation because I might actually die sitting here waiting. And this accrued time does not even include the time that I will actually spend in the room with the doctor. This hospital has serious issues. If you have a choice, I warn you to NOT COME HERE. I get that ER’s are busy places, but this goes above and beyond any acceptable amount of time to wait.People need to be fired. I hope this steers someone away from this joke of a hospital.

Only getting 3 stars....would be more. Unfortunately my boyfriend came in by transfer from another hospital.....well his items are missing wallet (with a good amount of money in it) shirt, shorts and shoes. We keep getting the run around from the first hospital, and emergycare and hamot. Someone doesnt want to own up to either a mistake or a possible theft. When someone is transferred alone we should be able to TRUST those who are taking care of us. Also those who clean the room when we are transferred to another room. I get that everyone is trying to take care of the patient....but dropping a bag where is belongs really isnt that hard.Im not one to write any reviews but we have called multiple times and we keep getting the run around. Own up to the mistake you made, make it right and move on.

I would never go anywhere else. I only trust the doctors and staff at Hamot and wouldnt even think about walking into St. Vincents disgusting hospital. The wait time in the ER might be a pain but take into consideration the number of people who take up beds for minor issues like a cold or sinus infections or the flu, which should be handled by your family doctor NOT wasting time and a bed at the ER!

My husband was in trauma unit and the first room 418 his nurse was the rudest most incompasionate person Ive ever met. Lied to him and told him she gave him pain meds when she didnt..And some nurse from half way down the hall kept coming up to his room causing drama, she bumped into his chair hard enough to jar him then yelled at him when he monef. She yelled I didnt hurt you I didnt touch you I take it shes been complained about before because she kept her name tag covered so we couldnt see her name.. The nurse that was supposed to be caring for him had an accent bleach blonde hair about 5 6 tall . Her name started with a N she rolled her eyes every time she had to do her job..my husband got tired of being mistreated and started yelling back at them..h this is 3 days after his accident. He has a fractured pelvis , fractured back in 3 places and broken ribs .When he was moved to room 441 we were more than pleased with Christy and Jennette the two nicest nurses

Since UPMC took over they are horrible. They basically killed my mother. My mom was prone to UTIs. The last one I caught early because she lived with me. I took her to the ER . She was jovial and kidding with the staff. They verified it. Admitted her and the nurse in her room said the antibiotics were ordered. I left and when I returned next morning, she was delirious, dazed and didnt recognize me. They NEVER gave them to her. Next : nursing home, Dead within a year. She never recovered. The Obama death panel was real. Look it up. I would not take my pet rat to them. If you go, please follow up 100% of your love one. I have so many stories from friends about Hamot, its frightening.

The nurses were nice and did what they had to but I was in a bad car accident went in dizzy, nauseous and had a few nice cuts on my forehead and head. They never even cleaned my cuts! I left with blood on my face and patches of hair falling out of my head from another cut which they never noticed. Going to St. Vincents next time.

From the 1st appointment my 81 Year old mother had here we knew we were in a special place. She had severe heart valve blockage and open heart surgery was NOT an option. She had the TAVR procedure done to give her a new heart valve.. The entire team went out of their way to make sure we knew what we were getting into and what would lie ahead. Because we lived quite a distance away the tests and procedures that need done prior to the procedure normally take at least 2 trips here but were all done in 1 day thanks to allot of hard work, and creative scheduling by Niomi. The coordinator Niomi is a special person who went above and beyond to make sure my Mother who had never been in the hospital before feel completely comfortable, and made herself available anytime day or night to answer any questions. It is impossible to thank everyone but from the receptionist who checks you in to the food delivery people and everyone in between were ALL simply wonderful. The doctors simply amazing and caring, the nurses, and aids 5 stars plus. Mom made a special friend in Ulysses the Anastasia Nurse who went above and beyond to make here feel comfortable and prayed with her prior to going into surgery. Thank you all for what you did. She is feeling great, has lots more energy, and has finally admitted maybe she was getting tired easily LOL and we have all of you to thank. It is hard to believe it has only been 6 days since this was done. What a great team she had working on her. God Bless you all. Thanks again from the entire Donner family.

Hospital only cares about making money. They have no compassion for the community they serve. You must have their healthcare insurance or they turn their backs on their patients. Many people who have had UPMC affiliated family doctors for years are now forced to look for new family doctors unless you drop your Highmark insurance and purchase their greedy insurance. It says a lot about their lack of compassion for people whose family doctors have developed a history of their patients health problems and what proceedures work best for them. It takes years to build a trust between a doctor and a patient! Its nothing but disgraceful!! Our representatives should be making this illegal!!! HAMOT cared about the community until this slime of a merger took over.My UPMC family physician and his staff all didnt like what their affiliated hospital is doing. Its pretty sad when the hospitals own staff feels forcing long time patients to seek a new physician is absolutely wrong! How can anyone think this hospital has any concern for their patients when they do such a cold hearted action?

Been debating to publish this or not. Sept of 2010 I suffered a severe double leg injury accident. Drs in my town would not work on me & shipped me to Hamot. The ER team was great, Drs were great and got things scheduled for immediate surgery. Next morning I underwent 8.5 hrs of surgery to repair my legs. I awoke in my room with family. It was explained to me what, ect and Id be staying in Hamot for at least 2-3 weeks, then transferred over across the street to rehab. The very next day, employees came in room to discharge me!! We tried explaining what we were told, nope--shipping me out to go home. We had to make all sorts of arrangements, order a medical bed to house, build ramps, ect--all in one day!! I was in excruciating pain, had to be literally carried down to car of which rode in back of an SUV for the 2 hour ride home. Come to find out, my chart & 2 rooms down hall got mixed and that guy was supposed to be discharged !!! My home hospital took me right in when I got home as it was impossible to get me in my home. We explained about being discharged--they blew up--why would a man in this condition be shipped back home? Reps from Hamot came down to my hospital & talked with me--although I was still sedated. I stupidly agreed to not file a lawsuit against Hamot and got apologies. That was it. Not real impressed with how things went down but here it is. If I could have given a minus review it would have been. Been bugging me for years.

I was let go well simply because me being there was noted as a conflict of interest. then they denied both our unemployment. which we are fighting. they dont care about you. just if they are accountable and if they are making money. dont work there. dont go there. they really dont care about u.

A friend of mine was brought in by ambulance and I was calling to check on his condition. The operator said that he was in the ER but there was not a phone in his room. I asked if there was someone I could speak to, seeing as how he laid in his apt for who knows how long unconscious. I just wanted to know if he was awake, or anything really. And the operator rudely repeated... HE IS IN THE ER BUT THERE IS NOT A PHONE IN HIS ROOM. speaking slow as tho I was some derelect. I knew I wasnt gonna get anywhere so I said ok thank you. Silence. Not even a have a good day or good bye. This place is just awful. I have had to be here for friends or whatnot numerous times and each time I was treated ignorantly. Hamot should offer a course on how to speak with the public, bc obviously theres some sort of communication problem. THE WORST HOSPITAL EVER!!

If you need a hot shower, forget that, water choice is cold and not as cold. If your insurance gives you an option go to StV or Meadville before this place.

I took my two year old here yesterday. We were in Erie visiting splash lagoon and he got sick. I am from NY. My son started puking and it continued for two hours, this hospital was recommended by hotel staff, so we came here. Dr Risavi was my son’s attending physician. I told the dr that my 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with strep throat and didn’t present with any of the typical symptoms, and that that was my concern now with my 2 year old. The dr seemed to ignore this and focused more on it being viral. He said there is a lot of this going around and many kids have been in today with it. The dr didn’t even LOOK at my sons throat because after asking my two year old to open his mouth and he wouldn’t, that ended it. Now, I should’ve MADE them do a strep test, I didn’t. I was given a popsicle to see if my son would get it down. It’s 1am and all he wants to do is sleep. After 3.5 hours, I asked to leave and they let us leave as nothing more was being done. I went home and went to his pediatrician the next morning. Even though he didn’t present with symptoms of strep, they checked him per my request- YES he has it. Drs need to LISTEN and not lump everyone into the same categories!!!!!!!!!!

The hospital in general, maybe 2 stars, but two particular individuals deserve 5.#1 - Dr. Carlos Racedo-Africao#2 - Nurse Yelena (sp)Both in MICU.Despite the almost certain death or permanent vegetive state of my father, Yelena was extremely sweet and caring. She even spoke to my father as if he were wide awake despite him being in a coma. The Dr was extremely articulate, professional, and honesthones explaining the situation while remaining considerate of the familys feelings. He didnt rush the conversations and explained every avenue of possible options. He even made time to have side conversations with individual family members. He showed no irritation even when dealing with a divided family on the decision at hand. I cant thank them both enough.

I spent 7 days at Hamot, 4 of them in critical care after being involved in a bad auto accident. I was transferred to Hamot from Greenville hospital who did not have the facility to care for me. I received excellent care from the trauma team doctors, and the nurses were caring and took great care of me.If I had any complaint It would be that it was noisy at night. I cant blame that on the hospital of the staff. They did their best dealing with more difficult patients. My only other complaint would be the fact that they wanted me to have follow up visits after I left the hospital with three different doctors all in the Erie area, even though we asked for follow up treatment closer to home. I live two hours south of Erie. Once home I had my family doctor schedule follow up visits with UPMC doctors within a few miles of my home. Over all, my experience with Hamot was a positive one

I had to bring my 22 mth old daughter into the ER, it went fairly quick n everyone did their job, more communication would be nice. But she had to be admitted n was there for 3 long days. Again, the nurses were great, they seem to do more than anyone there. The first morning we did not see a doctor till 5 pm,which is ridiculous n the answer I got ,she talks a lot so it takes her longer to make her rounds. Really,so we waited all day bc she likes to talk?! And the most bothersome part, theres no real food for anyone but the patient. When we found out the cafeteria is closed on the weekends(n only open till 2 during the week)we had to figure out how to get food w/o leaving our baby. We were told that our options were to order food to the hospital, use the vending machines(chips n candy/pop) or the little room w/ coffee, ice, little juices, bread, crackers n ice cream. We did the best we could under the conditions but we couldnt afford to order food in for 3 meals a day for 3 days. And we have 4 other girls that came in to see their baby sister. As for sleeping, good luck there, they have the hardest furniture that ive ever felt. The stress alone from watching my baby go through an illness was too much but to be so limited on food n sleep, I just wont go back there again. It was the most awful experience I ever had. Who takes away food from a hospital??And leaves you w/ junk food n costly take out. You know people dont plan to get sick or have accidents, right? Did you not care or realize that the one comfort when going through a loved one being sick or hurt is the ease of going downstairs n get an actual meal so you can go right back to them. It may not seem like much to some but wait till you need to eat n sleep while taking care of your sick child n theres nothing! I will be going to St. Vincent from now on. UPMC, you have ruined Hamot!

My husband is a physician who is a part of UPMC Hamot. They do not care about patients. It is all bottom line. If they cannot make money then they do not want to provide the services. That is a well known fact among physicians in Pittsburgh. Avoid that hospital if you can. Go to Cleveland clinic. It is truly an institution that focuses on providing quality care to patients, not their bottom line.Avoid UPMC Hamot at all cost. The physicians who cared about their patients regret selling their practices to UPMC Hamot. Hamot used to be a great hospital. Ever since UPMC bought the hospital the level of care has dropped. Also the physicians are definitely subpar. UPMC hires physicians who work cheap for them.UPMC corporation is the highest grossing hospitals in the world. Read the time article in march 2012 to know the facts. UPMC is not that large compare to somany other hospital group. But still they make the highest gross income in the country.Beware of UPMC hospitals.
