Staff is always helpful and nice. Great place to get gear if youre just getting into the backpacking/hiking scene. Love the 100% 1 year return/refund policy, if ya dont like it return it within a year and get all your money back.

You forget!...just how great R.E.I.s customer service is! At least, I did until I called and stopped in tonight. I simply called with a general question. The kind & well-informed young lady who answered the phone gave me the info I needed. But, there was more: she said let me quickly connect you with someone in that dept., so we can tell you what kind of selection and sizes we have. Another kind employee (Don Angelo) took the call with no delay and went to the racks and came back on the line quickly with good news. I told him that I would stop in. Then, I got more great service: he offered to put my size & style (the LAST one available) at the front counter for me, under my name.When I walked in the store a bit later, the cashier anticipated my needs and grabbed my product right away. I went to try them on for size. AI met another GREAT employee at the fitting rooms. Then Don Angelo came by, as I was walking out. He remembered my name and offered more tips and suggestions. I was blown away by this Encinitas/ Leucadia team. Check em out. They hire & train well! ...and they really care about their customers.

As a 30+ year member, Ive seen stores change. Since Im happy with my gear, I dont need the latest technology--though its very tempting. Backpacking has become expensive nowadays, and REI certainly reflects that. This particular store was clean, adequately staffed with helpful people my grandchildrens ages, and seemed well stocked. Ill always be loyal to REI, even if I dont buy much there anymore.

First time in this wonderful store. They had all my mountain bike parts that i needed to keep riding on labor day weekend. Great customer service and lots of outdoor gear.

The store is great. Theyve got a good selection of things for all kinds of outdoor activities, as well as clothing for active people. The staff who work there are super nice and helpful. I like to go even when I dont have any outdoor activities planned. It can inspire you to plan something, or you can just find some nice products. I happened to go in this time when they were having a sale and I got a nice discount.

REI has excellent quality merchandise. I particularly like their shoes, but its very hard to get help in that department. You have to be aggressive, stand up and go after the salesperson. Thats pretty much the same for any REI.

Don Angelo is rude every time I’m there. The rest of the staff is SO awesome. It’s so bad I remembered his name. This REI will lose customers (not just me) if it is not taken care of. I usually try not to put negative things out there but here we are. Hopefully it gets taken care of!

ITS HUGE STORE ! We headed over here on Saturday morning so my wife could buy a couple of warm thermal tops. My wife tried on a pricy brand thermal top which was $100 but not as comfortable as the REI store brand. Luckily for my wife the REI thermal tops she liked were only $50 each and my wife had a $100 gift voucher from her recent birthday. GOOD DEAL !

Wow am I impressed with the staff here. Honestly I have never had a better customer service experience. Not only was each staff member exceptionally knowledgeable they were also very kind and eager to find the best suited product. Went in for rock climbing shoes not really knowing what I wanted and came out with the perfect pair. Thank You so so much!

I was in REI on Sept.13th when I realized that one of my hearing aids was missing. I drove back home to see if it had fallen out there. In the meantime, the employees were looking for it throughout the store. I came back to look again. I can’t thank the staff enough, especially Karen, who helped me search for it. It took an 1 3/4 hrs, but it was finally found.

I have been shopping at REI since it was Adventure 16 in San Diego. We have been “members” longer than I can remember. Today’s experience may have changed all that. My 17 year old daughter and I stopped in to pick up a hydro flask. We were stopped before we went in by a woman who gave us a grilling about why we were there, we’re we members and wanted to know if we new exactly where to find our item. Before we got to her we saw the big sign saving to shop we had to wear a mask. We are both vaccinated but had masks with us and on before we even got to her inquisition. She told us to go ahead in. Store had very few people in it. We went right to what we wanted that was right by the register. The cashier greeted us as if we were some kind of offenders , was totally unfriendly and downright nasty attitude.?first demand was regarding our membership. We paid and she demanded more than asked if we wanted a paper or emailed receipt. We were 10 feet and we’re offended that we would even consider shopping . No problem. After 35 years, that won’t happen again. BtW the mask thing seems to be their policy not the city, states or countries. We did it to be compliant but they really need new jobs if they feel the need to offend and shame people who come into their business to shop.3 employees from the door and I said I didn’t need one but that ypu. She then barked “ well you have to pick one or the other or else you can’t take that out of the store” I’m sorry, what? I roll the paper. Walked out and both my daughter and I were stunned. We interacted briefly with 3 employees ( one seemed to be making sure no one was shopping where they weren’t supposed to be) and all seemed like they

Very cool store. Two floors of gear and clothes. Most items are high end and that is reflected in the prices. They had some clothing sale items that were actually nice and affordable.

Employees act helpful and will ask if you need anything while walking around. Then when you actually need help they turn off and act disinterested in making a sale. Bye

REI (Recreational Equipment,Inc.) is more than just a store and employees. Their staff goes above and beyond just putting in work hours. They are educated, helpful, and go out of their way to ensure you are getting the best equipment for what you need.They do offer a membership into their co-op, however you do not have to join. A smaller REI, and much more clothing-focused, but they still have the basics that youd expect out of an REI store. Sadly, I feel this company has moved too far away from providing a variety of the highest quality outdoor gear. They seem more focused on selling trendy clothing and cheap gear to the whole wanderlust generation that will use their outdoor gear more for instagram photos than for camping and hiking.

Nice two story shop. Bigger than it looks and packs a good selection of items. Probably 80% of the big one in Kearney Mesa. Less clothes and bikes, but all the outdoor adventure gadgets, camp and essential items. Staff are always friendly and helpful, as per usual at every REI Ive ever been to.

This is a first!REI didnt have what I wanted to buy.What REI did have was many employees working to help me and other customers. As an 80 year old with COPD a flare can be caused by stress, climbing a bunch of stairs and just shopping in a store for the first time.At least 5 employees stopped and asked if they could help me find something. The last young clerk tried to find a shirt for me. When he was unable to find a shirt for me, he graciously and politely directed me to an elevator so I didnt have to use the stairs.This is a well run store with excellent managers and young clerks willing to take the managers directions.

I went to this location this weekend, getting ready for a trip to sequoia, so I was looking for some gear to keep me warm in the snow and was weather resistant.Everyone that helped me was so nice, and I spent a lot of time talking to Sean and Sky. Sean was so knowledgeable on layering properly and kept checking in to see if I needed anything else. Sky was also informative and so sweet while she was helping me find hiking boots. There were other nice people that helped me, but I didn’t get their name. I got a lot of nice stuff, but my favorites are the smartwool socks and smartwool base layer top and bottom.The store is very big too, love this location!

Purpose driven visit for a pair of Merrill to replace an o-o-ld pair of whatsits. Didnt really look around today but noticed a reduction of in store stock. Really opened the place up. Probably part of the covid response. Been going here for years - finally got membership. In my experience, friendly, knowledgeable staff, no hard up-selling.

Omar up in the shoes department delivered high quality customer service during both of the trips I made to this location. The true service came out when he remembered my name as well as my partners name all while we were wearing masks. He’s a kind and attentive person and it shows in the service he delivers. He seems to be brand new but honestly did a great job and sold us 3 pair of shoes in total.I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.

Super impressed with REI, as usual. Employees and customers wear face coverings inside, and after a customer completes a purchase the REI cashier sprays disinfectant and wipes down the counter space + credit card keypad before they call up the next customer. The store was pretty busy this Sun afternoon but they monitored # of people coming inside and had like 5 cashiers working at once, so I wasnt waiting in line more than 3 minutes, even with 6 customers in front of me, all socially distanced. Way to go, REI. 🙌 Great example of how to reopen SAFELY. Thank you for making me feel safe today.

I have been to multiple REIs and this one took the gold for the worst. The general store is like every other and provides all that you are looking for. However, The staff was incredibly rude and acted as if they walked on water and you were the scum beneath it. The shoe department gave me some completely unnecessary sass. I had one employee following me around everywhere acting like I was trying to steal something? Ive never had any place make me feel so unwelcomed. The environment at this location was uncomfortable. I ended up just putting my items back and leaving due to the rude nature of the employees.

This two story location has all of the things youll need for camping & adventuring necessities. Its a little tricky to locate. The staff are usually very nice but could use a little more technical training for their respective departments. Shoes are always great, but need better suggestions & knowledge in other places like clothing. Wish it had more dog gear and that this was a dog friendly location.

First time at this location but they provided me with the same excellent customer service as the one in Washington I usually go to. Long waits due to social distancing, but at least they are open and doing everything they can to keep everything sanitized and keep people happy.

Employee made me feel super unwelcome. I have spent hundreds of dollars in this place and I dont expect to be treated like a king but I am constantly surprised by the elitist attitude. Obviously I will continue to go there for when I am in a pinch but hands down I find much better equipment by reading and watching online reviews and getting stuff from Amazon. Im a member and I will continue to shop there when needed but man I wish there was a better option. The whole vibe doesnt make sense to me. Maybe its the area?

REI has got to have the best Customer Service of any retail chain Ive ever been tool. Staff were extremely Friendly and knowledgeable to every detail of the products. I purchased a Garmin Fenix and the associate showed me how to operate the very featured filled product. I left not only with a great product knowing how to use it but feeling great about my experience at REI!

Great one unique store setup

On June 17th and 18th 2020 it was sub par. On the 17th I arrived at the store 10 minutes before closing and was turned away as ther werent serving any more people for the day. On the 18th I was asked specifically why I was there which was approach shoes. They didnt have any so I went to climbing shoes thinking about getting climbing shoes instead. After waiting at the climbing shoes with no assistance I gave up and left.

Great outdoors store! They have everything from clothing, kayaks, bicycles, sleeping bags, abs tents. Ski equipment, shoes, maps, food. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Easy parking and easy to get to off of Leucadia. We got our white water rafting supplies, including clothing, and I go here for beach clothing like hats, and clothing. Also bags, duffel bags, you name it. name

I dont think I have been to an REI that isnt a 5 star experience. This store is no different. The employees know their stuff and go out of their way to make you feel like the #1 customer. Ill definitely be back for any of my outdoor equipment and apparel needs.

The manager, John, was hands down the most helpful human on the planet when I went in to pick up an item and ask about a change needed to my account. Not only was he able to help me sort out my issue but spent a good chunk of his valuable time making sure it was 100% solved. Everyone working at this store loves their job and wants their customers to get what they need to #optoutside.

There 1 year return policy no questions asked. I was hassled today upon returning a goal zero nomad 50 that wasnt up to par. I have 2 panels one was pushing 45 watts in full sun the other peaked at 28 watts mind you they were right next to each other plugged into my yeti 1500. Wanted to exchange it for a new one. I have had them for 3 months I was no where near the 1 year mark. The lady behind the counter wanted to play a game of 20 questions. With there no questions asked policy. In returning other items in the past I will always get asked 1 question is there anything wrong with it but that is it. She wanted to know when I bought it, why was I returning it, how many times have I used it.etc hopefully in the future if I have to return something it will be as normal with 1 question.

Very knowledgeable staff! REI is one of my favorite places to shop and the end of the year dividend is a nice bonus. Four Stars instead of Five is because they dont carry everything. Specifically winter sports gear like ice axe, crampons, ski boots etc. Go to San Diego REI for more selection. Everything else is on point!

This is usually a pleasant store to shop at with most employees being very friendly and knowledgeable. However, I have had a few instances with staff being rude, not answering questions, and trying to sell me product I already told them Im not interested in. No need to push a sale and be rude to customers when the customer has repeatedly told you they do not want that product (Footwear department). Ive had better experiences at other REI locations.

Needed to have a bike repair quickly, Mr. Ryan Mcmorran provided helpful suggestions and solved the problem quickly and efficiently. His type of customer service is the main reason I became a member and will continue shopping there for cycle items and other items in the store. Outstanding assistance is deeply appreciated.

Super helpful and friendly location. Easy parking lot. Competitive prices. The cool thing is I ordered online and had the product delivered to the store for free. This location is a little smaller than some others I have been to but they have all the good items. You can always order online like I did. Price was the same as Amazon, just as fast and I have a neck to choke if I have a problem 😉

They are so helpful here! When they couldnt process an online order for some reason, they jumped through a ton of hoops to make sure i got my item with the promotional credit i had originally used, and all right before they had to close!

A well-located and well-stocked store with good customer service. I was a little bit dissatisfied with the person who helped me in the clothing section. I asked for a very specific brand and model of shorts and did not receive any helpful information at all. I was told that they were out of the stock in the entire brand though there were some on the rack and that the only place I might be able to find them is by going to the REI website. I was disappointed that the employee who was helping me didnt offer to look them up on the website for me nor did he recognize that they were currently in store just different models than I wanted.

I LOVE this store, and the staff is great. Used to have rock climbing and have many memories of the kids gaining confidence there, it was really fun. I was treated very fairly here for bike repairs, and they carried polarized glasses for little kids, at a fraction of what I would have paid. Havent had a bad experience here yet, its in the Walmart parking lot and Id rather they get my business, frankly even if I have to pay a bit more so the employees are fairly compensated. The staff is composed of a high percentage of outdoor enthusiasts. Thanks for being a contributor to our community.

Absolutely love this place. Become a member for yearly dividend check. I received 126.00 back one year and bought a Biolite stove with it. My daughter love to go with me to check out the camping gear. Its a smaller store but they stock enough. The staff is always helpful.

This is specific to the bicycle department. My husband and I have had our bikes tuned up and had occasional tire repairs done here. In the past, the service has always been great. The team members are friendly and knowledgeable.Our last trip was the complete opposite. The gentlemen helping was rude to my husband when he brought his bike in to have a tube changed. He was quoted a price and told he couldnt do it right now. In the past they have done it on the spot and it has taken less then 5 minutes. But no big deal.My husband told me the price quoted, and I was surprised, they were charging him more than double what I had paid for the same service less than a month ago. I had not been charged a service charge, and I only had to pay for the tube itself.So my husband returns to pick up his bike and brings cash for the transaction. When he is rung up, they tell him it is actually more because he quoted the wrong price for the tube (again, I just had his other tire tube replaced a month ago for the lesser priced tube and no service charge). Well, now my husband did not bring enough cash and they would not honor their original quote.We wont be using them for their bike service department after this, but all other departments are great.

This is a 2 storey store and very spacious. When i was searching for hiking pants, a female associate noticed me and suggested me to check out kids section as well because of my size (Im short and skinny). I am so so grateful she did because i found in the kids section a pair that fit me perfectly and at a cheaper price! Thank you!

This was our second time purchasing a bike from REI, but out first time to this location. We were helped by a very knowledgeable associate named Tara, she properly checked his fitting by setting him up on the stationary stand and checking his body position (I had asked at another REI to do the same, but they had no idea what I was talking about). She was super helpful made sure we had everything we would need and was just a cool person. I wish my first experience buying a bike from REI was with Tara, it wasn’t nearly as spectacular as the service we received with her. Even though we live farther from this location, in 6 months we will definitely be coming back to get our maintenance done specifically with her at this location. Thanks Tara! Needs to be more associates that aim as high as she does when it comes to giving them a full on fun and educational personalized experience!

Love this store, plenty of parking and as with all REI stores, helpful staff. Cycling gear is great, but I prefer my local bike shop for maintenance.

They had an issue ordering a piece of gear for me when I came to pick it up. Instead of going through all the red tape they took care of it right on the spot. You might pay a little more at REI but the customer service is well worth the extra money
