St. Josephs Hospital seems to be administered with all the caring ambiance of a prison. Indeed, visiting prisoners at Elmira Correctional seems easier ! If you need to close the hospital for its costs, I understand. However, their dismissive, obstructive and uncaring attitude towards people trying to visit friends and relatives is offensive. Note: this sad situation doesnt exist at Arnot Hospital itself - it is St. Joes that is the problem and I fondly recall that it didnt used to be this way.

I took my 1 year old son here a few hours ago and I was in and out very quickly. The doctors were patient, polite and even danced for him to keep him calm. They gave us a prescription and sent us on our way. Definitely one of the better hospitals Ive been to.

The worst. Checked in at 7 last night. Its now 12:21 the next day. Havent seen a behaviorist yet. The night staff was kind and attentive, but day staff is mean and nasty. The place is filthy. One of the security guards has no business being in a mental health facility. He argues instead of trying to calm the situation.

The staff are wonderful. The doctors are wonderful. My child has Medicaid and I saw absolutely NO difference between her care and the care of others with paid insurance. That all being said, the FOOD is absolutely horrible in the Atrium Dining room, both in quality and in selection. The patient meals were awful as well. I tried to supplement the choices with vending machine items, but those are all salty, sugary, fatty or otherwise non-nutritious. As a member of Arnot Health now, I expect better.

My son was in for mental issues. Requested 3 times for call from the doctor before he released my son, never got that call. 1 week does NOT cure mental illness. This doctor better hope and pray that if something happens at my sons hands, cause he will have met his worst enemy. Not only that, but a family plan was never done, doctor never made ANY kind of contact with the family, before he decided to release my son. If I could give a 0 rating based on that, I would. My son is 18, but he signed the release for the doctor to talk to me, so why couldnt the doctor pick up the phone and call me???

I was admitted here awhile ago, they did not follow sanitary procedures and never sterilized after a blood draw. One doctor notified me of my unusually high white blood cell count, the second tried to convince me my Leukemia was just in my head, Sometimes anxiety makes you exhibit physical symptoms. This hospital trusts vision and opinion over medical diagnosis. My arms itched for weeks because they cannot follow basic sanitary instructions.

Terrible bedside manner and customer service. Forget to take IV needle out at one visit and 3 hours behind at another without letting me know. Avoid if possible!

Average hospital. Not the best, but not the most professional or considerate, either. Some of the nurses should pay more attention to their hospitality skills when treating patients; particularly the ones who are in serious condition.

Horrible, sit in ER for 8 hours and only see a lab tech (within first 10mins) and a medical student at hour 1. Good thing nobody is dieing.

This is a terrible place . Patient care is shoddy and indifferent. Food lacks flavor, is barely warm, and not necessarily what was ordered Meds administered after dark given with room lights at full brightness regardless of time or people sl keeping. AWFUl..

Last fall, my husband was admitted for anaphylaxis due to a reaction to a new Med. He was released the following day even though prednisone was not controlling his allergic reaction and, being a diabetic, he was not told the effects of prednisone on blood sugar or given instructions or a prescription for the quick acting insulin he had been given while admitted. I had to rush him straight to Robert Packer to his endocrinologist for emergency care straight from St. Josephs hospital. The nurses are awesome here but the medical care is sloppy.Last night my son was brought by ambulance here with a five inch gash in his throat. It was two hours before the doctor on duty even looked at his wound. It required 10 stitches to close. It was another two to two and a half hours before it was sutured. The director of the ER came in this morning and I cant believe it, but I have a hard time thinking of any other professional in recent history more rude or condescending than this man.I would avoid this hospital at all costs unless there is absolutely no other recourse. That said, with so many hospitals in the area, maybe they should step up to the plate and accept ALL medical emergencies so there are other options. St. Josephs is the bully on the block because they know that there are some cases where patients have nowhere else to go.

Place sucks. Went here 1 time in the middle of a nervous breakdown. They demanded i stay for observation, when i told them i had a job and couldnt just take off work they refused to do anything at all for me. Ended up charging me $140 to check my blood pressure.

I went here for a simple procedure. I was to get an endo and colonoscopy that was prescribed by one of their own doctors. After going through the entire fast and detox I arrived at the hospital an hour before my procedure, tired, sick, and hungry. I was admitted only to find out that they could only do my endoscopy which means that i went through two days of pure torture for nothing. This is supposed to be a highly regarded institution, accept they cannot bother to call you before the procedure, nor can they keep their medical information straight. This makes me wonder who else they have screwed over, and medical information they have screwed up.

The service here is pretty awful. They treat their detox patients like crap (even thought its supposedly a detox hospital) Staff seems to be shocked when patients going through the misery of withdrawal are not behaving like sunshine and lollipops. To be a healthcare professional and get an attitude with someone enduring withdrawal seems so childish and unprofessional to me. Ive had several staff members be extremely rude to and dismissive of a loved one. Pathetic really- if you dont want to show kindness to people going through detox, then you probably shouldnt be a nurse in a detox hospital. That being said, a handful of staff members were very kind and accommodating and their kindness could not have been more appreciated. Its a shame more people dont understand how far a little bit of kindness or a smile can go.
