Id been referred to Kovach Eye Institute several years ago when I had a retinal issue. My experience then was so positive that, when I decided I needed an ophthalmologist, they were the 1st place I called. Dr. Bill Shaw was personable & professional, and I already knew their facility was excellent. It was quickly determined that I had cataracts, and Ive now already had the 1st surgery on my left eye by Dr. Kevin Kovach. Everyone was kind and efficient, much effort was made to have me feel comfortable & unstressed, and the surgery was so quick, painless, and successful, that Ive been gratefully gushing about it for the last few days. I know there are no guarantees, and I was given a very realistic view of what could and would happen, but all went very smoothly, and my vision in the eye that was repaired is better than I ever had before. Thank you to Dr. Kovach and his wonderful team!

I was a little nervous at first, but the staff was extremely nice and very pleasant. The doctor was a little short in the beginning, but then he opened up towards the end. The nurse working with the doctor was the icing on the cake. She explained everything in so much detail (the doctor did also but the nurse did it a little different) which I appreciate more than words can express. I left feeling informed and confident.

Had my lasik surgery here with Dr. Kovach. The staff and doctor himself have been great since day 1. From the consultation, full eye exam to the surgery day and even the follow ups, they made me feel very comfortable and well taken care of. Now I am seeing this world with 20/20 eyes and can’t thank them enough. The parking space in Elmhurst location is a bit limited as it’s in the center of downtown area. For people who are considering lasik surgery, besides the big institutes that’s focusing ONLY on lasik, schedule consultation with Dr. Kovach and get a more overall and detailed review as well as get all your questions answered.

I am one week removed from having Lasik surgery and my eyes feel great!I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kevin Kovach and his team. They made me feel at ease throughout the entire process from the pre-exam all the way thru the surgery and follow-up. I mean, it is a little nerve-racking, but I felt confident after the consultations as well as how many of the teammates that worked they had it done! Maddie was extra helpful explaining everything I needed to do with the eye drops and post surgery precautions as well.If you are 40 and want to avoid needing readers....go for the mono-vision option! I did and have no complaints, takes a week to get used to it but will be well worth it.If you are trying to figure out who to trust to do your LASIK.....you found the spot at Kovach Eye Institute - trust me! At his recommendation, I choose a multifocal lens and am very pleased with the results. My distance vision and computer vision are much improved. I do wear reading glasses but I can read most print without them. Before the surgery I was worried about my distance vision while driving. Now Im back to driving with confidence. DO NOT GO TO THIS PRACTICE!! My boyfriend came here to get help with corneal erosion in his right eye. He was in a lot of pain and every time he went he had to wait over an hour just to be seen. The last time he was seen was today 8/7/2020. He was scheduled for a procedure but it didn’t happen because they refused to check with the insurance to verify coverage. There excuse was the computer system is down. Um what? Why don’t you just call? Instead they wanted him to sign documentation and not check. He wanted to verify with me first so he went outside to call me and together we got confirmation from the insurance company (within 5 minutes) that everything was covered. When we called back to have them at least put the contact back in to protect his eye, they stalled on the phone until there office was closed! We were outside the building and they said “don’t come in” and that they would just call us back to come in to help him. This all way happening between 4:20 - 4:40. We walked in to the office at 4:45 (they close at 5) and they were already out of the office! They still haven’t called and clearly weren’t planning on it. They were more concerned about getting out early and leaving my boyfriend in pain! Horrible practice. Seriously find another place to go.

I have seen two different doctors at the Elmhurst location. The first one told me he could fix my problem in about 5 minutes. He didnt fix it. Im convinced he didnt do anything at all because the problem never changed or got better in any way. The second doctor did nothing but make excuses and strongly implied it was my fault that the problem didnt improve. When I demanded to speak to someone about this, the office manager repeatedly tried to gaslight me by saying that the problem is actually very hard to fix and often recurs. She did this even though I kept assuring her that the problem hadnt recurred, it had just never gotten better. Do not go to this office unless you like being lied to and having your time wasted. We have been to this office about 6 times over the past year. Today was not unusual. Parking: horrible. Lot is always full, and the parking garage in the next block was full. Lot across the street will tow your car if you use it. Wait time: over an hour. There are about 25 people in the waiting room plus about 8-10 more in an auxiliary waiting room. Staff is usually pleasant. We have seen Dr Kovach, Dr Ahmad and Dr Ali. They are all fine, but No one seems to know any of your history until they get into the room and look at the chart. They always seem to be starting from scratch there doesn’t seem to be communication between staff, and depend heavily on patients verbal history and recall. Drs are pleasant. Staff is pleasant but I would consider going elsewhere if I had to do it all again.

Its our first time here. They texted me multiple times a day for at least a week prior to our 3:15 pm appointment. When we walked in, we signed in but they didnt register us for another 25 minutes. Then the horrendous wait began. We were not called until 4:43 pm. There is no respect for peoples time. They overbook and make you wait for hours beyond your scheduled time. With a child who has autism & down syndrome this is unbearable. I was so proud of my boy b/c he just went to sleep. Places like this who have no consideration of peoples time and schedule should not stay in business.UPDATE: A personal call was made to me about this incident. I was informed that it was due to the phone service being down which affected the wait time. I received a call to provide feedback and the team is doing retrospective on how to be better prepared if this should occur again. I did appreciate the staffs assessment and the plan for treating my son going forward. I truly hope this is a 1 time thing and our next appt. if much improved pending nothing is down. My suggestion was to please let the people in the waiting room know if theyd like to return another time or can come back after 45 minutes to deal with this. Not announcing the issue only made folks more frustrated and angry in the long run. They took my advice into consideration.

I had cataracts removed in both eyes with the symphony multifocal lens put in using laser surgery. Our first visit was a detailed explanation of the procedure and cost layout with different lenses or plain lens and still wear glasses. A video on laser surgery vs manual was also shown describing the precision that laser is capable of. It was a no brainer to do laser although the cost was more than expected for the laser and lens but you get what you pay for.Matte had setup all scheduling and a payment plan. The surgery took less than 15 minutes per eye and turned out just as expected. Vivid colors and clear vision without the need for glasses. The two different eye drops multiple times a day, an eye patch at night and sunglasses when you go outside is needed post surgery. I created a spreadsheet to keep track of the eye drops which helped to ensure we did not miss any.As of day two of the second eye, it all works with vision getting better as time goes on.Dr. Kovach and his staff was a pleasure to work with, good results and would highly recommend them.

I had a corneal tear / abrasion. They put a contact on it to help it heal. My vision now is worse than it was before even though they indicated it had completely healed. That is all I know because the doctors did not explain or tell me anything else. I am being literal with this. They did not tell me anything else beyond this. I saw two doctors on two separate appointments. And each doctor saw me for under 5 minutes. Again, I am being literal. I clocked/timed both doctors. They did not indicate long term issues, persistent symptoms, potential fixes, follow up appointments.... nothing. They may have assumed that it was a straight forward procedure and recovery. Of course it was not as I still have eye damage. I have seen and worked with many doctors. I have never experienced such behavior as a patient.1st appointment:Dr Mateen K. AliNiazee was dismissive and apathetic. He did not provide any additional information or explain anything.2nd appointment:Dr Fatima Ali was incredibly rude and had terrible bed side manner. It was clear she was frustrated all day as I had been waiting for hours and had over heard her on several occasions scolding staff members and patients in the hall way before seeing me. (Note to all doctors, generally speaking it is not a good idea to scold the patient.)Note, I did not engage / address her frustration as I was flabbergast with how blatantly disrespectful it was.The only reason I went here is because it was an emergency appointment setup by the ER doctor.Ive read others reviews online having very similar experiences.
