Went to see Dr. Mattern for my wrists. I was 40 and no one had ever been able to help me because they are such an unknown condition. A week after I left, a specialist in my exact genetic disorder from Utah called me and I got an appointment. Apparently he took it upon himself to find a Dr. that would be able to help me, and since then I have had surgery and it has been life changing. He was the first Dr. I have ever been to that cared enough to go above and beyond to find me help!

I have been going to Dr. Mattern for years now, we use him as our primary care doctor for are whole family. He explains everything in detail, he is very direct and to the point. He is also excellent at deciding if it’s serious or not. I always trust his judgment. He does follow up calls and most of the time he does them himself. He is just a down to earth doctor, who honestly cares. I have been to multiple other doctors in Elko, who I just didn’t like. I would trust Mattern in any situation to make the best decision for me or my kids.

A few years ago I came to this guy for a respirator fitting and he told me I had failed miserably at breathing and needed to see a pulmonologist immediately because I was going to die.. I was freaking out for over a month thinking I was going to die any minute.. Went to my pulmonologist appointment and found out this guy does the breathing tests WRONG and I was in fact NOT going to die. I was just fat. Fast forward to today, he says the SAME exact thing to my fiance that was just fitted for a respirator a month ago!! (Laid off from previous job) This guy needs to lose his license immediately because he obviously is not capable of being a doctor! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go to him for any reason!!!

I love Dr. Mattern and his staff. Im a newer patient and he takes the time to find out why I was in pain and offered many options to choose from. Talking to him is like talking to a friend...he genuinely cares about me

I went to Dr. Mattern because Ive had a problem lately of urine retention. Im only 26 (female), and I figured I must have a UTI. I also had a kidney stone a few weeks ago, just as extra information. I only went to him because he accepted walk-ins and I didnt want to go to the ER, and nowhere else in Elko was open on that Friday.They tested my urine and nothing came up. No UTI. He basically shrugged and said here are some antibiotics anyway. He didnt know what was wrong with me and didnt really care. Then he lectured me for 5 minutes about diabetes and how Ill never get health insurance if its ever on my record. Oh, and by the way....Im not diabetic, and I already have health insurance with no plans to change in the foreseeable future. What the heck?I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. I have to go find a different doctor today that will hopefully help me figure this out instead of just saying oh well. I had to wait a half hour in the little room by myself (the doctor will be a few minutes; hes with another patient they said. Right.). He didnt know what was wrong, and he didnt seem to care about finding out either. No referral to a urologist, no ideas why a 26 year old female might have bladder problems, and no suggestions for anything except taking an antibiotic that wouldnt help a nonexistent infection. Wonderful.

Everything about this practice is AWFUL.
