Having been a member for many years, I moved over 20 miles away and asked to cancel my membership. I walked in and handed my written request to a manager. I was assured it was done. Two months later, membership still not cancelled, still being charged monthly fee and no one can help other than the owner who wont return calls.

Management is unconcerned with your needs. Staff is great but don’t expect the owner to care one bit about your needs

I was a member for over 3 years. Throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic, I received no communication from the gym save for them charging my account for three months that I could not legally set foot in the building, as well as a quarterly charge that came through during that period. When they finally opened and I walked in to cancel my membership, I was informed that the billing period still had 10 days left so I would be charged for this month as well, even though they only opened a week ago.I understand the pandemic has hit every one in a different way, and gyms were hit especially hard. However, the lack of communication and transparency compounded with the fact that I payed $120 for a gym I could not access is beyond frustrating. Go somewhere else, management does not care.

When my old gym Triangle Fitness closed we thought Marrit was too expensive so we came to golds. Golds Gym is amazing it has a half court basketball room. Lots of equipment and the community there is great. I’ve meet a lot of friends there and I look forward to going there a lot. They also have gyms all over the country and if you belong to one gym you can go to any gym anywhere.

Was forced to show up in person to cancel the membership and then was charged again after my cancellation. When I called to inquire I was told it’s policy. Thanks!

Was charged during covid 19 shut down and was never notified that I would be charged Couldn’t get in touch with them. Got charges reversed through my bank and ended my membership then golds pulled my old card on file and rebilled me after I already canceled. Called today for a refund and was told that they have no money to refund anyone... so basically they’re stealing from people, very shady what they’re doing.

The gym has plenty of cardio equipment, weights are where they are supposed to be, 2 large pull-up cable pulley rigs, one multipurpose monkey/ring rig, and plenty of room. The gym is clean and fountains do work. If you believe you were being billed after membership cancellation via card replace the card. I don’t believe this to be an issue regardless. I have been to many Gold’s and this is one of the better ones.

Charged me during COVID and when I called to cancel they told me to write a letter which I did. They then charged me an annual fee and told me a cancelation takes 30 days. I disputed the charge with my bank.

What a JOKE of a gym . Treadmills always down. Weights scattered around the gym so you have to hunt for equipment. Water fountain broke for well over a year now. Took 5 months to get a new scale and Walmart is a half mile away!!!! You try to talk to Matt the “manager” and it basically came down to if I don’t like it go somewhere else. GREAT management there Matt!!! Oh they’ll take your money but don’t except any sort of customer service. So I spoke with Clayton and yup you guessed it!!!! His focus is in Cross Fit. The definition of insanity is doing something repeatedly and expecting different results. Well welcome to Golds!!!!So Athens gym here I come!!!! Don’t waste your time here. Certainly isn’t ran the way Golds Gyms are known to be ran.PS-walked into Athens gym and saw about 10 former Golds members. They asked, “what took you so long?” 2 names kept coming up too. Wanna guess those names?

Ownership and gym management refuse to fix or have landlord have parking lot lighting on when gym opens weekdays at 5 a.m. Parking lot dark until almost 6:30 a.m.Dangerous, not safe for anyone, turn on the lights!. Front desk employee saying, problem with wiring, 3 weeks ago entire lot resealed and new parking lines painted. I would think the developer would fix the underground wiring before reseal and painting lines. There are many electricians in Carroll County, plus I have sold commercial lighting for 30 years, I understand the process and requirements of IES standards for lighting. Dark parking is not a standard during open business hours.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Just go in there, work out and leave. One dude has been lost in the dark parking lot for weeks but thats his problem. Maybe eat some more carrots.

Agree with other reviews. This was a great place Once upon a time. New management; Matt Soltis from corporate may get the job done, but very unethically and unprofessionally. Blatant disrespect of employees. Quit after working here for almost 5 years. Sad to go

If I could give this 0 stars I would. Trying to cancel a membership there was a terrible experience for me a year ago and now for my boyfriend (who has been charged since August 2017 and is continuing to get charged despite countless phone calls to the manager, emails to corporate, and a visit to the building to sign yet ANOTHER cancellation paper). They are not willing to refund any of the money even though there is proof that he had not visited the gym since the first time he tried to cancel. Their only concern is to make money. If you ever want my business or referrals in the future, you will fix this.

This gold’s is not your typical gold’s the trainers are out of shape and the walls are filled with cheap cheesy motivational posters. They have creepy old out of shape men telling me how to use the machines. The paper towel dispensers are jammed all the time. The attachments provided for the cable machines are all ripped up. The manager only pays attention to the cross fit room. Great place to go for cross fit though. Oh and the kid zone delineates a gold’s gym! For 10$ you can buy a couple cases of water to hand out to your members when the water fountains and sinks are out of order, but that would be proactive customer service (Management has none).

This gym has been on a downslide since I joined. The front desk staff is unfriendly. They used to smile and say hi and bye. Now Im walking in and out to their backs without them even turning around to acknowledge me. The paper towels are always empty. The mens room the other day was a complete mess with a draino bottle stuffed in the urinal and a out of order sign. The toilet paper rolls we empty and the new rolls of toilet paper were just sitting there with the wrapper they came in balled up on the floor beneth them (had to use a stall since the urinal were broken). Weights are always scattered and not racked. They pour their efforts into the CrossFit space and ignore the regular gym, and rest on affordable membership). Tonight may have been my last night there. Walked in to three staff at the front desk chatting it up with each other and no one turned to say hi or acknowledge I walked in. And when I left the front desk was vacant. People without memberships could easily just walk in. Poorly ran...

This place was good, once upon a time.Recently, theyve decided to introduce a $5/month fee to anyone who wisely refuses to give them direct debit access to their bank account. For my membership, thats an unjustified 25% increase to try to get their paws on my bank account details.Golds Gym has a terrible reputation for allowing you to cancel your membership. It is not in your best interst to share your bank account details with any franchise of such a company. Paying by credit card means you are protected from unauthorized charges if Golds loses or never receives the cancellation you have already submitted in writing multiple times. Incidentally, why do you have to submit cancellation in writing? They should process terminations done in person on the spot. Just more evidence of shady business practices.

Im am current member of golds gym but have issues with the management that runs the establishment. First off it is hard to get in touch with the owner of Golds. When I mean hard, I dont mean I cant find his email, I mean that it takes him forever to response or he doesnt even respond back. Second, all the gyms amenities that are offered or being implimented only benefit the owner of the facility. For example, the owner is crossfit certified so he has a room, which he charges way to much to be a part of, dedicated for that program. He recently had a child, congrats, but now he wants to open a kids club. He is not part of the golds union or nation, whatever it is called, because our membership cant be transfered or used at different golds in the area. I would not mind paying extra to be able to do that but it not even offered. But golds does have a clean facility and great membership prices so thats why it is two stars and not one.

July 2013: The gym opened about one week ago; this is about a month later than I was expecting. There are still minor things that need to be finalized, as one would expect, and the gyms management is responsive. All the machines and weights are brand new. There is a lot of space, and happily not all of it is crammed with machines. It is easy to move about and find a corner to stretch or work on a mat. Good natural light from windows. There is s lot of available parking. There are plenty of kettleballs, risers, BOSU balls, mats, and other such gear. The basketball court is a half court. I switched from Merritt down the road. Thus far, I am pleased with the switch. Ill update this review from time to time.August 2013 update: The gym continues to be equipped with smaller items, such as mats and dumbbells. It is often quite empty at certain times, perhaps due to the summer. I expect it to fill as they increase their membership. Due to a data-entry in my checking account number; my first payment did not process automatically; and a collection company called ABC started sending me emails and calling me aggressively. I tried to resolve the issue with the club, but they did not return phone calls or emails. When I went to the gym to pay, the person at the front desk was not trained to take payments. Expect poor phone and e-mail responsiveness and aggressive collections from ABC. I have lowered my rating by one star. That said, the gym is still a good value.
