I have to admit I was little skeptical of acupuncture at first. I was having issues with persistent headaches and foot pain, and was not having success with traditional medicine. After my first visit with Dr. Elkayam, I felt very good about my choice to try acupuncture. We discussed my health concerns and his plan for treatment.After only a few visits, I was able see real improvement. I went from about 2 headaches per month to none - writing this now more than a year since my first treatment, I can think of maybe one or 2 headaches since then. I have suffered from severe Crohns Disease for the past 6 years and have had bowel resection surgery to remove part of my leaking intestine which helped short term but soon was followed by a return of symptoms.In the past few years I have dealt with constant bowl problems going back and forth between diarrhea and constipation and burping hundreds of time per day, I had acute intestinal pain that was so overpowering at times that I could not eat, drink or even move and would often continue for days, I went long periods without eating due to the pain it would cause and when I did eat my diet was extremely limited, this caused me to develop anemia and have constant brain fog and fatigue and I would often suffer from bleeding due to hemorrhoids all this greatly affected my ability to work, eat at friend houses or function on a day to day bases.In the past 6 years I have seen many Gastroenterologists, Acupuncturists, and Naturopaths but no one has been even close to helping me in the way Ron has so far, I traveled across the world from Israel to El Cerrito to see Ron and have now been to 18 appointments over the past 2 months, in that time most my symptoms have greatly reduced and I am now having normal bowl movements consistently almost every day (for the first time in 6 years) my burping has greatly reduced and the fogginess and hopelessness I felt over the last few years have faded giving way to a renewed feeling of health and wellbeing.This treatment has defiantly taken a great commitment on my part taking herbs multiple times per day and keeping to a strict diet but its Rons guidance, easy-going yet encouraging approach and great knowledge of Chinese medicine as well as his caring and compassion that has made this possible.

Ron is very attentive to the individual needs of his patents. He treated me for pain and recovery before and after my ACL surgery. As a result, I feel that I used less pain medication and had a better post surgery recovery.

Ron is true healer. He is a very skilled and knowledgeable practitioner of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Personally he has helped me with insomnia, back pain and ,most recently acid reflux or GERD. Easy to talk to and a great sense of humor.

Six months ago, I was looking for a functional medicine practitioner, and found Rons business on Google. At the time, I was having a lot of trouble with migraines and fatigue. I wanted some help defining the problem, in a way that incorporated both eastern and western diagnostic techniques. We did a few different western-style blood tests, a gut biome test, a spit test to determine sensitivity to wheat, dairy, or nuts, and he did a Chinese-medicine style exam as well. In the end we found that I was anemic, pre-hypo-thyroidic, and had an overgrowth of a non-beneficial type of bacteria in my large intestine. He treated me with chinese herbs, probiotics, acupuncture, and had me change my diet to cut out wheat and sugar. He also introduced me to the Perfect Health Diet - a book that helped me get on a better eating track overall - and the Mind/Body Prescription - an interesting book on the relationship of emotions to physical pain.The first couple of weeks were rough - I had a headache pretty much every day - but I made it. The changes to my diet were hard, but I was ready to commit and follow through to get healthy again. The acupuncture was great for me - I respond really well to this type of treatment and I felt much clearer head-wise right away. I found that each time Ron made a change to the treatment plan, it would take my body a couple of weeks to get used to the new stuff, but then Id feel even better.After three months the protocol was complete. I am continuing to take herbs, and we are now phasing down the frequency of acupuncture treatments - eventually to once a month - for maintenance.The improvements I noticed: I lost 4 lbs without trying. I have more clarity of thought, and its easier to get out of bed in the morning. I have more energy to get through the day, and have even been able to get out to some concerts on the weekends which has been fun. I feel much less anxious than I used to - I suffer from anxiety and depression and were going to try to address that next. I used to have sugar cravings all day long (that was the bacteria in my large intestine) - now I have a craving every once in a while and its really easy to turn down desserts and sweet snacks.I am so impressed by Ron as a healer. He has a judgement-free bedside manner and is simply present to enable me to be the best I can be. He truly cares about the people he serves. He spent 5 years in China learning his art, and it shows. His acupuncture is the best I have had.I worked with one other acupuncturist in his office, Michelle, who was also wonderful. She was completely focused on me, and was very careful with her needle placements.Last, but not least, Brianna the receptionist is friendly, down-to-earth, and welcoming. Shes also very knowledgeable about alternative medicine.I would happily and readily recommend Ron and Elkayam Center for any of the services they offer. In particular, if you have a difficult or long-standing health issue, I feel he is one of the best possible people in the area to work with.

Accupuncture definitely helped with my Crohns disease symptoms and overall health. I would recommend accupuncture to anyone looking into a holistic approach to health.
