I am sure you have heard the term, a wolf in sheeps clothing. Well, our family couldnt get our Mother out of this place fast enough!The owners (Jan & John) portray themselves to be kind and devout christian individuals but trust me, they are, in my opinion, the devil in disguise.At a time when we were heartbroken and distraught about finding the right care option for our ailing Mom, Jan took advantage of our emotions and made us empty promises for the best in care for our Mom.We were so relieved and hopeful that Mom would be in a perfect place to live out her years needing 24/7 care. While the look of the home is quaint and it is clean, the reality of the situation nullifies any of that.What the reality is, is that Jan especially, is mentally unpredictable in her attitude towards the patients and their families. She exhibits alarming emotional/psychotic tendencies such as being quick to anger and yell, lying to patients and their families about daily occurrences and preaching about her religious beliefs; she told us that no one can tell her what to do, even when it comes to simple and realistic family wishes for our relatives care.As far as our direct family experience with Aerie Meadows I can say this:We were repeatedly lied to about the actual cost of Moms care, even after documents and a 3 hour initial orientation was done. For example, we were unexpectedly billed for additional incontinence care supplies of $500 per month and were told (after the fact) that if Jan had to use a manual lift to get Mom out of bed it would be an additional $600 per month. None of this was discussed during the signing of the contract for Moms care. And because our family had never been in this situation, we did not know every right questions to ask during a very difficult time for us.My Mom became terrified that Jan was going to hit her. Jan would yell at my Mom and get in her face.She would care for Mom in an impatient manner and her overall vibe would be hostile, and then later she would act as sweet as any human can act.Our Mom tells us she witnessed Jan being impatient and mean to the other patients too. These patients were unable to communicate and were wheelchair bound so they couldnt respond to anything Jan did to them.One of the other patients told our Mom that she loaned Jan a large sum of money (thousands)and that Jan is now refusing to repay it.Jan has yelled at and offended each member of our family who has tried to reason with her. We have all tried to discuss our Moms care with Jan and John but instead were met with anger and accusations. She once told us that she was sick of our family. Its like there is a switch that goes on/off with Jan and if you reach that point, she shuts completely down and will not discuss anything with you beyond her yelling and accusations. We found her to be absolutely impossible to deal with. Horrible, horrible, horrible and sad.There are a lot of other things that were completely unacceptable; so much so that in fact we contacted APS (Adult Protective Services). Shortly after our Mom left, we learned that another family pulled their Mom out of there as well.
