No walk ins welcome. Doors are closed and open to only a few clients. They have people outside who will give you a triage number to call. That number will probably go to voicemail. They are supposed to call you back but they havent called me back and Ive tried more than once. Thats enough for me to keep moving. I understand that the medical community is overwhelmed right now. Have compassion on the workers they are human too. Healing is out there dont give up.

This a long and very hard review to write; for a multitude of reasons. I have both good things and bad things that have come with my 2 or 3+ years of being a client at Tropical. Despite the bad things, I would like to think I would still recommend Tropical to someone who may need help. But ill openly admit its very hit or miss, and its really all based on luck at this point as to whether youll have a good experience or not. When I first became a client I was 17, and was under the client list of a super sweet, and incredible case worker. For privacy reasons I wont disclose her, but I truly do hope she knows how amazing she was, and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. Even to this day, despite having not seen her for almost two years. Then of course there was my second case worker, who I got when I transitioned into the adult system. Id like to very bluntly say its not a transition. There is nothing transitional about aging out of the youth services. You almost immediately lose contact with your previous case worker, and are shoveled off to someone new. The fault is not on the case workers thats policy, albeit, a poor one.My second case worker is a very long story. As a person, she was incredible. She really is as a person, a great person. But as a case worker, and health worker, she is very bad at her job. She was constantly unavailable. Im in LOC3 (level of care 3). I at times didnt hear from her at all for weeks at a time. Or when I finally did hear from her, she would fall through with calling me back as shed assure me. She was never on time. Five minutes away was always an hour or more. And finally the worst of it, she talked about her own personal issues with me. Marital issues, issues with her family members, her children, ex-husband, and so many others things. She would ask for MY advice on things. Im a 20 year old who is basically a high school drop out and is mentally ill to the point sometimes, I cant function enough to shower for a month at a time. While I genuinely hope life works out for her, I was suffering while all she seemed to care about talking about was her issues. I wish I could have had the guts to tell her to get a therapist of her own, and stop being so unprofessional. Again. The 20 year old who is mentally ill is sitting here judging someones lack of professionalism; that has to kind of be an all time low. Especially if you have intentions of long-term providing for others in the mental health field. There was a point where she used me as her own guinea pig and projected things shed learned at class at UTRGV onto me. For example, telling me she self harmed to see my reaction (her own words there.) It got so out of hand my private psychologist had to step in and eventually drive me home. There is so many more things I could say about her, but I dont have the energy for it. In the end, I finally got the guts to ask for a new case worker. The point to all of this is though, Tropical is very hit or miss. But id still recommend this place in a heart beat. Its free services, and those are important for people who are low/no income, who need help. Me being one of those people. To put it simply, you take everything that happens with a grain of salt. That being said, because my case worker was so informal with me, id like to think I have some insight. From what I was often told, case workers are loaded up with a case load far beyond what they can sometimes handle, because of being short staffed. How some departments are forced to cover for other lower care departments (LOC3 covering for screenings for example, among other issues.) So I can understand why some case workers might be hard to reach sometimes (within reason). Its not always their fault at what management piles up for them. That being said, my final two cents are. Overall I hope others have had a better experience than me. Especially given this is a program that can and should be beneficial to a lot of people who need it.

Worst facility ever.Crisis Hotline agents are useless. Today one asked me, what is it you want? Seriously?! I am obviously in a crisis!! Another lady hung up on me because I used foul language. People are in need of critical assistance and your worried about etiquette??!! Case worker hasnt showed up for 3 scheduled appointments. No one wants to help you. Its like youre standing in a crowded room, but no one hears you ... Most disappointing experience of my life.

Crisis Hotline Hidalgo county is useless. Mental health system promotes family who have a member with mental illness to be more involved but Hidalgo county crisis hotline is useless. Other Countries like Nueces are a lot more helpful. I called Crisis Hotline they said they could not assess since my sister was currently in the hospital ant that hospital can assess (another code for we cantcbill), I stated my sister is unstable and lives in sleeps in her truck at parking lots they said they cant assess unless a police officer is there to assess first and then crisis can arrive later, and they cant assess unless a family member is at sight. So tell me again, why do we have a Crisis Hotline?

- Pros -transfer over you to different doctors all the time and they always have tight security (cop always there on duty even to escort you to hospital)direct help you with all your problems really wellmany staff members so there is always someone that will connect with your illness all the time, if not you can switch to another doctoreasily to get along with doctorspaperwork is a blast since connected to the actual Behavioral Center where you can stay for a few days, weeks, maybe even months if need be- Cons -only bad thing i can think about is the waits in the lobby for appointments. 30mins-1.30hr long waits

Unfortunately, very poor service. No organisation no management. I was 4 minutes late as I pulled in the parking lot . I tried to call them and no one was picking. After some time, I received a call and the lady registered us.For one reason, I was receiving calls from 3 people. One person registered me and asked me to wait in the vehicle but other person told me to reschedule. They were calling at the same time. Another person called my daughter to reschedule the meeting. One of the employees, a guard was very rude. He misbehaved and tried to push me. I wanted to talk to the front desk but he said that I am not allowed inside. They checked my temperature before and I had no fever. But the disrespectful way he used to push me outside was very bad.
