What they are good at here is talking loudly, not doing braids. What is the point of making an appointment if you have to wait more than 1 hour post appointment to start. I had a 9:30 am appointment and didnt get started until around 10:20. I did not like how the style was turning out and they begged me to wait for another stylist to arrive. I didnt get started until around midday. Another client had a 9:30 appointment as well. She left around 10:30. No one even bothered to look for her until long after she left. Good for her. They over charge. Prices are different for different persons. No set prices. Place was kept clean, and location is convenient. I always say am not going back and still do. This time is the last time I will go there. Five minutes into doing your hair they ask you to pay them. Smh. What a shame! Talk talk talk and unprofessional. The owner comes in and all she does is join in with the others in the loud and obnoxious talking.

I go here once a month. My braids always look stunning & last me. I always receive wonderful customer service from each and everyone of those ladies! Also the prices you can’t beat! Highly recommend going here.

I got box braids at Mimi Hair braiding at the end of May 2021 and was very pleased. My only complaint is that they didnt start doing my hair until an hour and a half after my appointment time.I would definitely go here again with an appointment for first thing in the morning.

I went a couple of days ago to get my hair braided being that I’m all natural. So I drove to East orange. Mimi’s hair braiding shop is a African spot. I has about 10 ladies braiding hair. I was impressed with them following New Jersey’s social distancing , mask wearing , and only the people getting their hair done in the shop. The shop was relatively clean with the exception of the hair that was being worked on. I met the owners everyone was super friendly. They played music native to their country. The atmosphere was fun, and upbeat. So I got box braids in the back , and cornrows in the front in which I will supply a photo. I got my braids long to the middle of my back I paid $140 dollars for them. Which wasn’t bad for the quality and time spent on my hair. If you are looking for place to execute your style , and treat you with respect , and hospitality this is the place. I rated my stars based on customer service, cleanliness, price ect.

My second time each time my hair came out magnificent

I’ve come here numerous times and it’s been a mix bag of results. This last visit may be my last. 3 hour wait. I showed them a photo and my braids looked Nothing like the photo shown. 2 people braided my hair. The first girl (she was nice I will say that) braided tight in some areas. The second woman who did the back of my hair braided loose. The braids in the back are barely holding on.I left this place with red bumps all over my scalp and have been sore 2 weeks. I’m hoping I’ll still have hair when I take these out. I don’t think I’ll be going back unless I have to. Or I may just find another shop.

Very clean and comfortable environment. They are following all of the guidelines by keeping the customers and themselves safe. Service is nice also,my hair came out very nice.

Temperature checks at the door, hand sanitizer available, and the stations are separated by a plastic barrier. I also smelled some clorox while I was there.I enjoyed my experience here, the owner is very friendly and pleasant. And my hair came out exactly how I expected. Lots of beautiful styles leaving the shop.

First time going there the staff was very friendly and professional and clean I would recommend them I had my hair braided did a fantastic job I was pleased Thank you and I came all the way from Maryland.

I’ve come here several times and always tip & am very precise on what it is I’m looking for...however each time I walk in the woman is aggressive & rude...I overlook it being a stylist myself and trying to always give a chance as I’d want to be given ...I came in Sunday 4/18 and asked for a touch up & told the braider she could put knots in the back of my hair but only wanted Knotless at the top...within three days my braids in the back that she put in...started falling out two at a time. I called Friday morning & was told I would need to come in at 5pm to fix my hair, which I could not do...and then was told I could come in Saturday afternoon/evening. The woman charged me $80 to fix literally only 9 box braids and I returned days later. Once I asked for some of my money back in exchange so I could somewhere else and have them fix it, she said for me to come in “now”I arrive & the braider instantly starts talking about me to Mimi with an attitude while giving me a dirty look ...and then turns to me and smiles (I understand French). Mimi comes over and rudely tells me “yr hair is short...we’ll fix it but we not fixing it again” as if she KNOWS my hair isn’t going to last. Even when I initially asked for my hair to be touched up on 4/18...Mimi asked me how much did I pay to get them done in NYC instead of just giving me a proper price quote for the service. I told her I’m a stylist and she fanned her hand at me and told me “you’re not my regular customer” meanwhile I been here at least 7 times in 3 years I would NEVER treat my customers likes his & rarely leave reviews...but the way Mimi treated me today was DISGUSTING! There are some good, professional braiders but the ones in charge don’t listen to what the customers want & penalize customers for making them work harder then maybe they wanted to which is totally ...unacceptable

The front representative wasn’t pleasant to speak with, eventually walked away when attempting to ask her about the redoing another salon’s error. I understand they don’t correct someone’s work but at least communicate that professionally.

I came in yesterday with no appointment at the last minute i was able to get serviced on time. I did not even know what i wanted done to my hair but the amazing staff helped me figure out a style that fit me best. Also great to see this salon is taking all the proper precautions with covid-19. The young woman who did my hair (forgot her name) but she was in the second chair from the back did an AMAZING JOB. Very neat braiding. Excellent service all around highly recommend

My Zig Zag Part was Crooked. I waited for 2 hours for these 2 quick braids and they still failed. Also Not What I Asked For. I wanted the braids in the second picture with a Zig Zag Part.

I made an appointment the day before. I was on time and they got started right away. They gave me exactly what I asked for and did a good job. I got microbraids and was done in 3 hours with 2 ppl doing my hair. I work from home but was able to bring my laptop and use their WiFi. I had a great experience, overall.

Had my hair braided this morning. The business is very professional, the people are nice and they also take measures to make sure everyone is protected from any exposure to the covid 19 virus. Every hair station is properly secured from the next also hand sanitizer, temps checked and face covering. Highly recommended

A good friend of mine referred me here to get my hair braided. I read almost all of the reviews this morning but I didn’t allow them to deter Me from going. I was greeted upon entering and asked what I wanted done. I showed the picture to the young lady and she gave me a price which was significantly less than what I have been quoted in the past. Macy then began to braid my hair and asked if I liked it after doing a couple of braids. She was very pleasant and even complimented Me on my natural hair (some hairstylists do not like dealing with natural hair since it is sometimes difficult to manipulate). My braids are PERFECT and I am looking forward to referring my friends and family to her. They are tight, but I do understand that they have to be in order to achieve the perfect look that I wanted.

They are very generous but can’t do hair. my natural hair was still sticking out my braids and the end of my braids were very uneven and cut crooked. it doesn’t look like the picture i showed her.

Ive been getting my hair braided at Mimis for almost 10 years and this is by far the worst results Ive ever received. My scalp was sore for 3 days after getting my braids but 2 weeks later, Ive lost 12 braids, yes 12!! For me to pay the amount of money I did and not even get a decent week of my hair looking clean and fresh is unacceptable. Guess Ill looking around for a new shop.

Restored Customer!...Let me start by why I stop going to this shop and what got me to return! Previously, I had been a customer for years as the shop is near my home, however after some displeasures so I went elsewhere. Previously the shop was often too crowded, a little dingy, unorganized often, and braid work was sloppy (at times depending on which braider did it & style wanted) also the hair previously used was cheap and itchy (not sure of who their vendor was years ago, but hair used now is a lot better). HOWEVER, with the pandemic and the improvements the shop made!! I gave them another chance and I have to say I was REALLY IMPRESSED with how they have taken PRECAUTIONS to keep staff and customers safe!! All staff is wearing PPE smocks & masks. Customers are required to wear masks and temperature is taken upon entering the shop. The shop is much cleaner, the staff chairs are separated with barriers (ie. social distancing). The staff seem much more calm, friendly and organized! I recommend making and appointment to get a slot. I HOPE the shop keeps up these improvements as its GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I have to disagree with all the negative posting on her been going to this place for over 19 years and moved from NJ to PA and still travel over an hour just to get my hair braided there. Never disappointed with my hair styles and they are always quick as soon as I walk in Im in a chair getting my hair done. Of course they are going to speak their own language I dont let that offend me its just like going to get your nails done they speak their own language or going to the Dominicans to get your hair done they speak their own language. Mimi Hair Braiding Central Ave in East Orange you are the Best for me and will remain the best and I will see you all in a few weeks for my fish tail braids!!!!! Love MiMi thanks girls😘

I have to travel to get my hair done and it’s worth the drive coming here. I’m always happy with the style that I select and the women that do my hair are always pleasant and work quickly.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND going here despite the braids looking exceptional the staff is rude and does not keep good hygiene. while getting my hair done the woman braiding my hair coughed and burped into my face not once but the entire time i sat there after eating. 9/10 if you look young theyll ignore you

I used to always love getting my hair braided here. However recently customer service is very very bad. The african woman who owns or runs this place is very rude and disrespectful. I am never going back here period. I started going to Habys on Wood Avenue in Linden NJ and customer service is great so far. I do hope Mimis go out of business. Service really sucks here. Owner need some training in customer service.

Been coming here since the 90’s and left the state for 15 years upon my return I went to two other shops recommended since I been away for a while...BAD EXPERIENCE both times so I took my chances on going back to where I am familiar. Not only are many of the same stylist there but the work is impeccable like always. I will forever be a true customer to MiMi Hair Braiding Central Avenue E. Orange forever. Love the place and regardless of style I’m always out 4 hrs or less.

I have been going here for at least 10 or more years, yet they act like they barely know me. Prices were excellent but they recently raised them.They generally do a good job braiding hair. If a young girl comes, they sometimes ignore and take adults before her out of turn. A few staff members are friendly but overall the atsmosphere is unfriendly and the wait can be long.

If I could give it zero stars I WOULD. These women are completely unprofessional, they dont know how to interact with customers whatsoever, they do not listen to what you want, and continue to do what they please regardless of what you had stated to them earlier or protesting earlier about it. They also are not happy with what you tip them even though a tip is something a customer gives WHEN THEY ARE MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH THE HAIR DRESSERS SERVICE- NOT what you rightfully deserve. Its called a tip for a reason (they need to understand that). Its disgusting how greedy, lazy, and the lack of peoples skill these women have. It is awful, do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. They broke my hair, were not gentle with untangling my hair, they were barely going to actually seal the ends of my braids (what kind of service is that!?), and to top it off they obviously are not happy being told that you did not like something they did as if you arent paying them for the service they are providing to you. Out of the kindness of my heart I tipped very well, but when the second woman was going to receive less than the first because the other woman had worked A LOT longer on my head than the second woman she wanted the same tip the other woman received and gave me the most disgusting look. She was awful, they were awful, but hey- tis the season so I tried leaving being positive but you know what, no. It was a horrific experience that I will never put myself through again. I hope karma comes back around and hit these women hard. They were just AWFUL, and DISGUSTINGLY GREEDY and they are the kind of people that I am able to rightfully describe/name as to what is wrong with humanity this day and age.

I have gone to Mimis for yearsI have made my last trip today. I showed a picture how I wanted my goddess braids. Fatima didnt even do them correctly after parting my hair for 45 minutes. Oh, BTW 6 goddess braids 3 hours not done right. She proceeded to pin them up even though the picture had them down. I told her if she were unsure she should have asked. Then proceeded to talk about me in her language which I called her out on. My daughters and I have gone there for over 15 years not anymore.

My daughters father took her there to get faux locks. I loved how they looked at first . After playing $200 for the style and an additional $50 to by some other hair. They didnt even last about 2 weeks after getting them they started unraveling. It was a completer waste of money and time. I know lots of ppl who get faux locs and theirs always last a very long time

This used to be my main braiding salon for years, Mimi is a very nice woman..however her new staff is horrible. They seem to be having an influence on the old staff too. They are extremely too chatty, catch bad attitudes and their customer service needs a lot of training. The last time I was there, I felt like they were making fun of me, they were going slow, they began arguing with another young girl who asked them to hurry up because she had to go and had been there for hours and they were playing music laughing and many of them were not doing anyones hair. This place is going down in the dumps! Hire all-around professional stylist! Thanks!

My braiding experience @ MiMis the 1st time some years ago, I was not pleased. I just recently got my hair braided 2 mos. ago, and I am still getting compliments on my hair saying it looks like I just got it done. I have no complaints, I was in & out. As soon as you walk in the door, MiMi greets you, and I was in the chair immediately. It also depends on what type of hair you get.

I have been to MiMis twice and the 2nd time I waited a long time but I needed my hair done. Plus i showed up late like 11:30a. Both times i was treated nice and fair. I saw other customers were fussy. But u cant make everyone happy!!Thats my two cents.

This place is THE WORST! Very poor customer service. The girls are on their phones while braiding your hair. They scream and fuss at each other while doing your hair. The music is very very loud. They make - up prices. They are rude.

The first time I went there about 2 years ago, my senegalese twists came out beautiful. I dont know what has happened in the last couple years, but the service now is horrific!! They only use 2 strands of your hair per braid or twist even if you get larger sized ones. They are extremely rough with natural hair. Their large box braids broke my friends edges off. Seems like they want all their clients to lose their hair. Do not go here!!!!

BRAIDS CAME OUT IN 3 DAYS!!!!! I’ve been going to this place for years and this never happened to me before. I called the owner and told her my braids came out and it’s only been 3 days and she said come to the shop. I went to the shop to get the braids that came out redone and she said no and started screaming kicking me out the shop saying I cannot help you and I told her I’m calling my bank for a refund $160 went to waste.. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!!

I had an absolutely horrible experience here. After calling the day before to confirm the opening time and to say Ill be there, I arrived and had to wait for almost an hour for the hairbraiders to show up. When one of the hairbraiders showed up, the manager allowed another woman--who arrived 30-minutes after me--to go before me. When I interjected that I arrived first, she told me that my hair-do only takes a short time and the other girls are coming. In other words, were getting more money from the woman who just stepped in the door. Ok, thats poor customer service, but whatever. When the other woman arrived and started doing my hair, she stopped after about two braids to run an errand next door. WTH!!! After she returned, gobbled down her breakfast snack, she continued on my hair. Not even ten minutes after she returned, the manager came asking for payment. At that point, it was almost two hours after I arrived and not even a quarter of my short hair-do was done. Frustrated, I got up and left. They seriously need to work on customer service.
